Got takeout here and feel like their katsu is so underrated as it's so crispy. The workers were super kind and they had a simple ambiance.

    Vegan tantan ramen

This place replaced Gyo Para, specializing in katsu and ramen. They have one vegan katsu and 3 vegan ramens (miso, tantan and tomato, each $14.90 plus tax), all of which come with 2 large pieces of tofu, green onion, bamboo shoots, seaweed, black fungus, and of course ramen noodles. I got the vegan tantan ramen. The soup came out in about 10 minutes. The noodles were classic ramen noodles, nice consistency, adequately chewy. The tofu seemed like grilled tofu, on the softer side, seasoned nicely. The broth, which makes or breaks a ramen, was solid: made of sesame but not spicy at all, unlike most tantanmens I've had. Nice richness and depth. I'd have preferred some more veggies as toppings, e.g., spinach or other greens. Friendly service, solid ramen, and good value. Not as good as Gyo Para but very solid vegan ramen nonetheless. Recommended.

The guy in front of me, Deng, looked at me with such envy as he cut in line. This place is incredibly popular! Every time I pass by, there's a long queue. Even on rainy days, people are willing to get soaked in the rain just to have a bowl of hot tonkotsu ramen. While you're queuing, the staff will hand out menus. The ordering system is similar to Ichiran Ramen; you can choose the noodle firmness, broth consistency, spiciness, green onions, oil level, and MSG amount . The basic ramen is only $13. I added a soft-boiled egg and pickled cabbage for $2 each. Although the pickled cabbage is really expensive , I can't help it, I'm a pickled cabbage addict! The pickled cabbage paired with the rich tonkotsu broth was refreshing. The broth was flavorful but not greasy, the noodles were chewy and springy, and the portion size was just right. Overall, it's incredibly good value for money; no wonder there's always a queue. After eating, you really get that "Ah~ this is the taste of happiness" feeling

This time, still a line, but it went faster. This is definitely not a sit down and enjoy your meal w anyone. Order your food from a slip of paper you're given so that by the time you sit, they collect it and place the order. Seats are hard and it is devised where you and then leave. I had the goma vegetarian and my brother the tonkatsu. We both had thicker noodles. However, one could not tell. The vegetarian was loaded with sesame seeds. Now i love those seeds but it was way too much for my liking. Too much seeds to chew on. They also do not put any vegetables on like Hawaii does. Everything is ala carte and that adds up. I simply chose the ramen version without all the add ons. The broth was yummy but again with the loaded seeds, it made it challenging to just drink the soup. I will say, Hawaii has by far better ramen, but this place was ok too. Pricey for for what you get though.

I always order beef tongue, Japanese fried chicken, and shrimp mayonnaise. These are my must-orders and their signature dishes. The beef tongue is actually quite simple; it's delicious just from being lightly heated. The hot stone slab is served piping hot, perfect for searing meat. Be quick, or it will cool down. The Japanese fried chicken is tender, juicy, and incredibly fragrant. The seasoning is just right. The shrimp mayonnaise is plentiful and a perfect match for beer. The two seasonal or specialty dishes of the day weren't as good, and I wouldn't order them again. My advice is to order their most popular and classic dishes, and definitely make a reservation in advance if you want to come (especially on weekends, as the wait can be up to an hour).

The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making the entire dining experience very comfortable. From taking orders and serving food to providing excellent care throughout the meal, everything was done attentively without making me feel pressured. This natural and thoughtful service was a huge plus. The food also left a deep impression. Japanese cuisine demands high standards for ingredients and details, and Kingyo excelled in both taste, ingredients, and presentation. The restaurant's ambiance was also very Japanese--refined yet not overly formal, creating a comfortable and relaxing space. This visit left a very positive impression. The service, food, environment, and atmosphere all made me feel very comfortable, making it a restaurant I would definitely visit again.
