Enjoyed the ajitama ramen. Broth is nice and I liked the gooey egg. The combo is only worth it for the rice and gyoza. The salad is just mediocre. Service was quick.

As someone who has been to Japan 5 times, Horin is as close as I can get to authentic japanese flavour in Vancouver! My Favourite is "The One" with light broth and firm noodles so its the perfect balance of tasty without being overwhelmingly heavy!

So happy to be back having ramen at one of my fav spots! Love the option to customize and adding $5.90 for a combo is so worth it! Highly recommend :)

The best tonkotsu ramen I've had. The broth is amazing. The service was so fast! We placed the order and got our ramen within 3 minutes!! The staff were super friendly. And the restaurant decor was Japanese inspired. It really reminded of my visit to Japan. The craziest part of all this was that the ramen was just $13!!! The matcha tiramisu was good but it looked better than it tasted. Don't get me wrong, it still tasted nice and the matcha flavour came through well, but I was expecting a punch of flavour whenever I had tiramisu so it was just different from what I expected. Not a bad thing, just new to me.

We saw a line up here the evening before so we went for lunch the day after. We went early so we managed to get a seat. Service was incredible, super friendly. Restaurant was clean and bright and they gave us cute aprons to wear so we wouldn't get our shirts dirty. We both got an Ajitama ramen. We got 1 small and 1 regular. I noticed my small was pretty big but didn't think anything of it. Unfortunately, they charged us and we got 2 regulars. However, the flavor of the soup was amazing!! The broth was so flavourful, the noodles were made perfect, and the egg jammy. Highly recommend. 5/5 We also got their special gyoza. It was ok. Pretty crispy but it the filling wasn't as flavourful as I expected. Although I love the yuzu dip it came with. 3.75/5

Haven't been to Horin Tonkotsu Ramen in ages but checked out their Burnaby location. Their OG spot is downtown. It was packed on a late weekday evening. Ramen bowls are $12.90 to $19.90 with two noodle size options. They have a loyalty points program; $10.00 off when you accumulate 150 points. - Ajitama ($15.90 regular) - opted for firm noodles, aburi seared pork belly, hot chili and medium broth richness. Broth was decent but could have had more umami. Soft boiled egg was bland. Thin noodles were good, chili added a nice kick - Horin combo ($5.90) - takana & kimchi and gyoza. Gyoza came with an interesting yuzu sauce

Finally tried this popular ramen place last month when I didn't see a lineup on a weekday around 5pm. Their ramen and broth met expectations and they provided attentive service. I would definitely visit again but it's not a meal of choice where I would wait in a long line. The competition for ramen places is fierce in Vancouver and Burnaby. For this ramen meal, I selected medium in firmness and broth taste, which was perfect to my liking. Their chilli sauce looked amazing on menu cover, I asked for it on the side and it was indeed quite good and very spicy. Service was excellent where customers don't feel rushed even when it got busy and a line up started to form around 6pm. I also appreciate that the servers were attentive and took time to top up our teas and bring extra bowls and sharing plates as needed. Ambiance and decor here gives off authentic Japanese vibes. It seemed most of their staff spoke Japanese as they chanted loud greetings upon entry to welcome customers and upon exit to thank customers. My favourite combo: ramen with cha siu, eggs and gyoza (note to self: not a fan of their kimchi, please don't order next time). Bonus of free parking available in Crystal Mall and its location is close to transit stops.

Horin definitely makes top 3 ramen in Van. I'm a sucker for a rich tonkotsu broth, toasty round slices of chashu, and thin noodles. PLUS A little dollop of spice? SIGN ME UP. (I do wish the marinated egg were a tad saltier because she's lacking some umami sometimes..) If I lived near metro/crystal mall, I'd probably be coming here bi-weekly for sure. Matcha tiramisu tastes okay but nothing to write home about - it's kind of just layered cream and cake with matcha powder. A matcha soaked cake layer would level it up to tiramisu level but I guess the matcha market is tough rn. Either way, the ramen has my heart and soul.

Horin ramen is on par with ramen places in Japan! There was a line and we waited about 30 minutes. The broth is delicate with umami but not overly salty. You can customize your ramen by the noodle texture, spice, richness in broth, and add ons. I just got the chefs recommended. If you enjoy more spicy, with medium spicy and I felt I could have done hot or hottest, my medium spicy wasn't really spicy at all. The noodle quality was perfect for me, for my husband it stuck together a bit but it did not do that for me. Chashu was perfectly tender and not chewy. I enjoyed the spicy cucumber dish. Service was great and would recommend if you love ramen!

I'm not a ramen connoisseur but felt this ramen tasted about the same as some of the big names in the city. The black garlic add on is a game changer and I gave it 5 stars. Everything is good except they serve the ramen with the thin noodles and I prefer the thicker more alkaline tasting ones. A deal breaker for some people is that the entrance is on the outside of the mall. If the place is full, the lineup is outside in the elements. They do bring tea out though once in a while.

I love ramen so when this place popped up by my place I had to check it out. When it first opened for the first couple of months whenever I walked by there was always a line up. There still is a lineup depending what time you go so you just gotta take your chances. The place is not very big maybe 7 or 8 tables. The service is friendly and polite. The food was good, I ordered the ajitama ramen and the gyoza combo. There is pay street parking out front on Kingsway but it is Metrotown so parking is limited and hard to find.........

B and I just came back from the island and the first place we wanted to dine in was Horin. We heard lots of good things about Horin. They are from Japan. They are located at Crystal Mall but not in one of those inside unit. Their store is facing the outside of Kingsway. Service was good. They are known for their spicy homemade sauce. All the flavors are the same and the only difference is really the topping and the spicy level. If you opt for more spicy, it means more sauce and less spicy means less sauce. I got "The One" and B got "Chashu".We both made our entrée a combo for an extra $5.90 each. The combo came with a side and a salad. I got the seaweed salad and the matcha tiramisu. B got the cucumber salad and the Horin Curry. B was very impressed with their curry. I really liked the matcha tiramisu. Our ramen was very impressive and flavorful. Yes you do get the option to select the broth and noodle thickness. B said it is comparable to his favorite ramen place (Ramen Danbo). They are at the same level of goodness. Too bad they don't have a sesame flavored ramen broth or else we can directly compare it to ramen Danbo. Ramen Danbo and Horin both have their uniqueness.

Bundle up if you do not beat the opening rush; the line is outside with no cover from the rain. Small inside ~ tables are tight, groups no recommended. Clean & new furnishings. Service is friendly & as prompt as possible. The busy rush will force you to flag them down if you need something. Ramen ~ as good as anywhere, nothing extraordinary. The add-on toppings will bring your bowl +$25 and the bowl is not large. Clean broth, clean pork, eggs yummy. Unfortunately the broth does not stay warm hot in the bowl style. So crowded ~ you feel pressed to eat quickly with the crowded spacing and loud ambience. Not a relaxed atmosphere to slurp noodles.

We chose 5 pieces karaage, 1 tonkotsu ramen, 1 ramen flight(chicken soup base, tonkotsu, and vegan) and Aburi Cheesecake(extra CAD5.00) and mochi ice cream. For drink, I ordered Tokyo Sunshine mocktails(pineapple, peach, lychee, lime, mint), and partner had a Sapporo beer. We were so surprised Karaage's portion! They were very generous amount and came on large plate!! Tonkotsu ramen was decent. I liked Chicken soup base one (Ramen flight)which was very creamy and smooth, bold flavor. Vegan one was very spicy. Bean curd on the top was unique. Noodle was very good, too. Mochi ice cream was decent. Aburi cheesecake's torching presentation was amazing. This was second time I had this cheesecake. However, Cheesecake texture required refinement. The last one was better. I prefer more smooth texture. And Mocktail was great. Strong pineapple, lychee flavor and tasted great. Overall, we were really satisfied the meal. Service was great and quick. Highly recommend this special menu while it is available.

We ordered a couple bowls of ramen, gyoza, extra noodles and extra chashu slices. Food arrived fairly quickly. The ramen was decent for the price. My child ate all the gyoza and fried chicken. The food was a 3 to 3.5-star while their service has improved over the last few years (4-star). No doubt the location is very convenient (a solid 5-star). I was there a couple times this month. Lunch was busy on a weekend. Dinner was not busy at all on a Sunday. Lunch: - Roast Pork - Shoyu Ramen The roast pork was marinated on point and the meat was very tender. If it was on bone, it would've fallen off the bone. I was surprised. However, it was a tad dry, but it didn't affect the flavour. Shoyu ramen was quite standard. It was the most basic and economical ramen on their menu. The flavour was not bad. Nothing was over seasoned. The half soft boiled egg was nicely marinated and cooked. I enjoyed the soup, which didn't leave me feeling thirsty. The one slice chashu was on the thin side. The ramen was a little al dente. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal. Dinner: - Gyoza (Pork and vegetables) (5 pieces) - Fried Chicken Ramen (Chicken broth base) - Beef Tongue Ramen (Pork broth base) The gyoza (pot stickers) skin was nicely pan seared on one side. The flavour of the stuffing was good on its own while dipping on the gyoza vinaigrette sauce tasted even better. The one critique was that the temperature was only lukewarm and not hot enough. Fried chicken was set on a side bowl while the while ramen was on a separate bowl in the chicken broth. The fried chicken had a nice umami flavour, yet the skin was soggy. The soup was creamy white with light flavour. The ramen was on the soft side yet not bad. They were generous on the corn and bamboo shoot. The beef tongue ramen was nice as per my friend. The beef tongue was marinated well. The ramen was the same on the soft side. I think they have a lot of room for improvement. The flavour, the temperature of the food and the plating.

And it helped that it was within walking distance. Upon walking in, the staff let us pick an empty table. The place is rather typical looking for a family-run Japanese restaurant. It was clean, which is the most important thing for these quick lunch stops. - Takoyaki: OK. Good size, covered in bonito flakes. It was quite well presented and tasted fine. My only complaint was that it was close to lukewarm not hot, so it didn't seem freshly made. The greens seemed unnecessary. - Vegetable Tempura: OK. Nothing special. A good tempura batter is very light and airy, but this one was a bit bready. - Shoyu Ramen: OK. Good size, and flavors where there. The pork was the thickest piece I've ever had in a ramen bowl, but very tender, so no real complaints. - Chicken Teriyaki Rice: Not recommended. Chicken was tender enough, but I prefer chicken with skin. Plate was drowning in sauce. Edible, but not enjoyable. Service was simple and nice enough. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Overall, we were satisfied. The food here caters to what locals want and expect, and they generally do a fine job with it. If I was hungry and was in the area, I would certainly consider it.
