Rarely have I seen a ramen place not run by Japanese chefs be good but this place isn't bad. The quality is there but I think the soup can be more dense and flavorful. We had a good feeling about this place as soon as we walked in as we were greeted by a very friendly Japanese server who was quick to greet and seat us. Clean restaurant with several available tables, but definitely had more of a food court feel than cozy restaurant ambiance. That said, it's located within the bowling alley but you'd never know it during dining. We ordered the veggie ramen with an added egg, and the Shoyu ramen (without seaweed or onions). Food came out very quickly. Veggie ramen was quite delicious but not over the top flavourful, nothing a little chili paste couldn't fix. Shoyu ramen had a very woody broth. Noodles were cooked well had significantly less noodles than the veggie ramen. Pork was a tad bland. Overall very good! Service 5/5 Atmosphere 5/5 - love the open kitchen concept Shio ramen: I have to say the presentation definitely needed some work. Noodle firmness-5/5- cook to perfection Soup - 4/5 clear soup base but amazingly not too heavy yet pack with flavor. When you try the soup it will have a light sweet after taste finish. Soup still feel a bit salty I would say 1-2pinch less salt. Overall I really enjoy it on a cold weather like today. It felt really hearty Soft boil egg - 3/5 - it doesn't have the watery yolk I was looking for. The egg didn't absorb the flavor of the soup. I felt it was like a separate entity from the ramen. Bamboo shoot / green onion -5/5 bamboo shoot packed with flavor and green onion refreshes your taste buds. Green onion also played a big part in the soup, it absorbs the fatty oil and made the soup taste very appetizing Over all it was good! So great to see a newly opened ramen restaurant in the Coquitlam area right by the Cineplex theaters! Came here on a Tuesday and the place was pretty busy for a weekday. Everyone got a table right away as the turnaround of each table is very quick. We ordered the shoyu ramen and miso ramen and a plate of gyoza. Overall, all the food was really good! The broth was nice and rich and the noodles were done nicely with a little chew. The miso ramen had a bit extra veggies like corn and bean sprout and the broth almost tasted nutty to me, which I liked and would definitely order again! It is nice that another ramen shop opened in Coquitlam. I have been trying ramen places around the Lower Mainland recently and finally made it here after showing up during their vacation time. Service was fast and efficient. We were seated right away. Menus and water was offered. My date picked miso ramen and I picked shio ramen. We also ordered gyoza to share. Food arrived fairly quickly. The broth was alright. It was missing the depth I found in the previous few ramen shops I have dined at. The noodles had a good chew. The chashu was very thinly sliced, but was tender and flavourful. The soft boiled marinated egg was perfectly cooked. The pork gyoza was good as expected. No complaints there. For starters, great price point. It is rare to find a ramen shop where you can enjoy a meal for under $10. As another reviewer pointed out, it is not the best nor it is the worse. Checked this place out for dinner as there are very few ramen places near my house. Right off the bat, you can tell this place was clean, well run and organized. They have their ramen making machine visible at the front as all the noodles are made in-house. The staff were attentive and friendly. The broth had good depth and flavour. The chat sui (pork belly) was melt in your mouth. The egg was a little over done, but not a big deal and the noodles were cooked perfectly and had that nice chewiness to it that you find in good ramen noodles. You can tell the thought that has gone through how they execute when each type of ramen is assigned a certain coloured bowl. Price point is very competitive and provided good value. Shoyu Ramen $9.95 Review: Well, my parents and I ended up eating here since it was on the way to where we were going. For first impressions, the restaurant was very clean and the waiter was also very polite! This ramen shop has an average range of options, regular & light shoyu, shio, miso, tantan men and vegan/vegetarian options! I decided to order shoyu only because it was the first ramen on the menu and I sort of assumed that it would be what they are best af making?! Maybe my assumption was wrong? The location of the restaurant isn't very "convenient" so I am assuming the broth was brewed for too long since it was very RICH. The broth was very heavy and too rich for me. Usually shoyu ramen is light but this shoyu broth was so filling and salty. However, the bite and texture of the noodles were perfect. I really liked how they handmade their noodles!!! Some ramen restaurants buy their noodles and I feel like it doesn't sincerely show their effort and dedication? Maybe it's just me and I'm dumb The toppings were not very plentiful and quite underwhelming (not anything special) just two slices of chasu, a marinated egg, bamboo sprouts, green onion and a sheet of nori. ‼OH ALSO I ALMOST FORGOT‼ When I go to a ramen place, I always drink some of the broth to taste the depth and flavour, however this broth was SO OILY THAT I IMMEDIATELY GOT A HUGE PIMPLE ON MY FOREHEAD AFTER EATING IT. The soup base seems to lack luster, but is still really good. I was really hoping Honjin would have good ramen because there really is no good place for ramen in Coquitlam area yet. I ordered the shio ramen with chicken broth and it's unfortunate that their ramen tasted like below average chicken soup with noodles. You only get half ajitama which was not really properly marinated. The pork cha shu was so fatty and did not taste properly marinated as well. There's many side orders to choose from and the place seems pretty busy when went but I will not return again. I ordered the miso ramen and my guest ordered the shoyu with a side of takoyaki. Takoyaki was good, the texture was more firm than mushy which I liked. The miso ramen was flavourful (borderline salty), noodle was fresh and delicious (ramen is made in house) with generous portion of bamboo shoots, bean sprout, corn and egg. Good overall, but I didn't think the broth was hot enough. The pork/ chasu was good, especially if you like fatty pork. Unlike some other ramen joints, however, there's no customization (choice of pork fattiness and broth saltiness) here. $9.95 for a bowl of ramen is reasonable and the value is also great for the quality. I was longing to try this place out as we watched it be constructed for months & months. Hubby even did some work here through the company he works for as construction was happening. I finally had a chance to go try it out. And I was thoroughly disappointed in the 25 minutes we were there. The place was busy but we got a table in less than 5 minutes & placed our order within 5 minutes of sitting. This place is very close to home so its very convenient for me and given there are practically no real Ramen places in Coquitlam is very nice to have a one when Ramen urge hits. My review is based on 2 visits eating the Shoyu Ramen with extra Chashu, sprouts and broth. Base price is very cheap $9.95 and with add ons it comes to $13.95 or so. Good price considering some places charge $14 just for base and no extras. The broth is a mix of Pork and Chicken so its not the more traditional tasting pork flavour broth. Regardless it is very palatable and chashu (BBQ Pork). Is delicious. Smoky and perfectly salted. Noodles are standard quality. Service here has been very friendly and attentive both times. One server is Japanese or speaks fluent Japanese. Will definitely be repeating and often. read more

I have traveled throughout Japan and this is the closest ramen I've ever had to authentic Japanese ramen. the noodles are made on-site and perfectly cooked, not every place can make thin noodle well. The broth is a mix of chicken and pork, great umami flavor, balanced seasoning, and made properly with industrial grade pressure cooker. The shio is flavorful without overly salted and the shoyu has a deeper tone of flavor. Overall, the restaurant has great ambiance and very friendly staff. This ramen joint was one of the few I was actually able to find in Coquitlam! The interior seems relatively new and very clean, bright lights and a comfortable amount of space between customers. I ordered a shoyu ramen $9.95 & chicken karaage to share $5.50. On a Saturday night, it took about 40min for the ramen to come then our karaage didn't end up coming till about 10min after the ramen (which I found strange only because I've never had to wait that long for ramen and that our karaage game much later than our ramen). The actual broth itself lacked depth and I ended up adding a lot of the condiments that were neatly placed along the side of the table. This ramen shop definitely doesn't compare to the other ramen joints in Vancouver but being one of the few ramen joints in Coquitlam, I wouldn't say they have too many competitors. read more

We have visited Honjin Ramen many times since finding it a few months back. It's hard to find good ramen places in Coquitlam so we were quite excited to find Honjin. They make the noodles on-site in the front room and they keep their offerings simple. Only four types of ramen. I always order the miso and find it quite good. My wife loves the tan-tan and it's extra spice. This is are go to spot for ramen when near home. Just a note. They offer extra noodles and half extra noodles. I had the Tanten men ramen, The thick chilli broth was very flavour full and i liked all the condiments to choose from on the table. The noodles were quite good, a little chewy but I enjoyed. Service was very fast, very friendly and check in timing was perfect. Price is fair on dishes but a bit high on add ons like the green onions. $1.00 i think is tol much. We went during Easter holiday. The service was excellent. We shared takoyaki. My son and had miso ramen and was quite content with his. The broth was thick but not heavy but still flavorful. I had Omoku ramen made with chicken both and Chinese veggies. It was not the authentic ramen I expected but I still liked it. It came with some grilled chasu that went well with the dish.
