I would rate ZUBU 3.5 stars considering taste and price. Their menu is more expensive than many other ramen places you can go to in Vancouver, while taste is average. You do get what you expect but there is nothing spectacular. They have a large menu including appetizers, drinks, and desserts. Service is good but at times felt like they were pushing us to add on other items. The restaurant is large and roomy, slightly dim. We sat in a nice booth with greenery around it. I shared the ramen flight ($21) with my boyfriend, which included spicy vegan, creamy chicken, and tonkotsu soups. The server said that each bowl was around the size of a mini ramen, but it was significantly smaller. The flight is definitely for one person to enjoy. We added on a spicy tonkotsu mini ramen so we were able to compare the size. Both of us love spice so we got the "burning hot" level of spicy. It was similar to buldak fire noodles level! All of the ramens usually just have a few bean sprouts/mushrooms/corn and one slice/portion of protein. I would suggest adding on items if you want the bowl to be more substantial.
My parents and I ordered 5 items but I have picture of only the first dish. That's because they all looked so good so we dove right it and ate and forgot to take any picture. It was Easter Sunday. I took my parents around town to look at cherry blossoms. It was around lunch time when we drove through Kerrisdale on the way to UBC so we decided to stop and look for a restaurant. Zubu was the 3rd one we checked out. The menu looked good and we grabbed a bar height table by the window. We ordered: - chicken karaage (8-pc) - edamame - my parents each had a mini tonkotsu ramen - I had the poke bowl The chicken karaage pieces were generous in size. The coating was light and crispy and the meat was juicy and tender. My parents were glad that there were mini size offerings for ramen which were perfect for them. My dad had a regular and my mom had a medium-spicy (2 on their 4-pt scale). She said it wasn't spicy at all although she could eat raw chili peppers like snacks. My poke bowl was tipped with all the expected fixants which were fresh and flavourful. Portion was generous as well. It was a perfect Easter lunch for us.
I used to go to this spot when it was Jinya. Parking is so-so. Very busy area. Sometimes there's a wait, sometimes none. I always get the Tonkotsu Kuro with extra noodles/chasu/ broth. The bowl is always consistent. ( my category for a high review ) I've gone to Zubu no less than 10 times now and in different locations. I have nothing bad to say. Nice little place with a cozy setting. They can seat you close to others at times but meh. Try the Kuro - if you like the pork bone soup base.
This place is very busy but I'm glad we waited. We were told it would be an hour wait but ended up only waiting 15 mins! They also have a good loyalty program and we received free calendars! The sizzling gyoza, whiskey special and large selection of ramen is probably why they're always so busy. Great place when craving good ramen!
The restaurant was pretty empty on a Saturday night when my friend and I came here for a bite. We got seated quite quite quickly, though our menus took a while to get to us. It would be come a pattern here where our water refills and bills were delayed by quite a bit. We had the gyozas to share and they were fine, not very memorable. I got the Japanese curry with fried chicken. The chicken was juicy and flavourful. The curry sauce was good too. I thought it was a bit pricey for what it was, but it was generally tasty.
Yeah...so apparently for the back door patio dining, you can't bring your pooch along. I felt lied to since the server last time told me I could bring my pooch to the back door patio once patio season is open. You can only eat out front in traffic with your doggo in tow. Sn: zubu at Metrotown is better. (Food wise)
One of my favorite ramen places lately. I like their Tonkatsu Kuro Ramen which comes with 2 good sized pieces of cha siu. The broth is very flavorful but also heavy with fat which can make you feel very full. My kids like their handrolls that you roll up yourself. Their best deal is their $22.50 Lunch Set that's only available until 2pm on weekdays. It comes with your choice of drink, appie, entree, and dessert from a smaller selection. If you choose the House Salad as your appetizer, its HUGE! I recently came intending to go for lunch and get their lunch set but I guess people are out and about again and there was a 30min wait! By the time we got seated, it was past 2pm, which meant the lunch set was no longer available and it was time for Happy Hour. The HH snack items available were still pretty pricey so like I said, lunch set is better value. We tried their Ebi Mayo and Salmon Taco. The Ebi Mayo was nice and crispy with a non-spicy Sriracha flavor. The Salmon Taco was nicely packed with salmon and a tasty small bite. Though they are pricey, their food is always tasty.
Zubu has been my go to ramen lately. Different branches under this chain are consistently good. Ordered the Tonkotsu Kuro - pork broth is fatty but yummy. Thin noodle is done perfectly al dente. Crispy chicken is a staple for me whenever I come to Zubu. The lemon and ponzu sauce go so well together! Also loved the Seafood Salad with flavors so delicate. Salad was presented in small dishes with nori sheets and crackers on the side.
I came for dinner Thursday at 6:30 with a friend and the restaurant was mostly full, but we were still able to get seated immediately. I was starving, so we decided to share an appetizer and each get our own ramen. The chicken karaage ($4.15 for 5 pieces) was delicious. It was very well flavored and moist on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside. For ramen, I went with the tonkotsu kuro ($15.25) and asked for fatty chashu with no green onion. I asked them to swap out the thin noodles for thick noodles as well. It was so good! The tonkotsu broth had a lot of flavor but wasn't overly salty. I ended up drinking all of it. Portions were bigger than expected. It looked like a small bowl when I first got it but it's very deep. Both my friend and I struggled to finish our ramen. My only complaint is that the ramen doesn't come with a soft boiled egg by default. I completely forgot about it and didn't realize until I was almost done eating, when my friend pointed it out. Parking is metered along 41st Ave. Paid $1/hr after 6 pm.
Service: 1/1 Atmosphere: 1/1 Food: 2/3 Took my bf out for a birthday dinner here. We got the Spicy Tuna Tacos for an appy which was absolutely DELICIOUS but super expensive for the portion size. My bf loved his ramen. I got their seasonal Teppan Aburi Chashu dish (it is def not appetizer sized like they say, I got mine with steamed rice on the side). It was an interesting dish - good but not anything amazing. Overall a very enjoyable experience, however it is definitely pricey for what you get so I will likely come back for special occassions when I am okay with spending a bit more.
I ordered what's in the picture but read the menu carefully! It doesn't come with rice like I thought and the rice roll kit was an add on. They have a quite detailed menu but different than before when it was jinya. More sushi. Ambiance is nice even when it's busy.
One line review: A nice outdoor dining experience. We went to Zubu in the late summer, during wonderfully pleasant weather in Vancouver. Given that the pandemic is still a thing, we elected to eat at one of the tables outdoors. We ordered: Brussel sprout ramen Aka ramen extra hot Fried calamari Lettuce wrap The ramen was very good -- flavorful, excellent, springy consistency, lots of goodies. The calamari was tasty, but I would have liked more of it. I found the lettuce wrap dish okay -- not something I would order again. Service was courteous and helpful enough. We found free parking in the neighborhood. Bottom line: We like this place and eat here occasionally. It's good enough for return visits.
Nothing like hot and soupy ramen on a cold rainy day. The only thing that can top it is getting a weekday lunch special! $17.50 gets you a an appie, ramen and a dessert. SOLD! We had their curry cheese fries, consommé garlic fries and edamame. I liked their garlic fries best and I'm okay with that as an appetizer! Of course, I had their spicy chicken ramen at hot level. 5 levels of heat and this was just right. Chicken was nice and tender with the beautifully cooked ramen. The spicy broth brought it all together. We also had their tonkatsu kuro which was rich and flavourful. To end off, we had their matcha mocha. Matcha ice cream wrapped in mochi is always a good idea. It was a bit icy for some reason. Overall, a solid ramen experience!
Great location with easy public transportation access and easy parking spot. The restaurant is spacious and cosy, with a lovely and friendly staff. The service was quick and kids friendly. We each order the set that includes an entree, a noodle bowl, a drink and dessert for only 35 CAD. As usual the food was tasty and delicious read more

I have walked pass this Japanese ramen restaurant a few time and it seems like popular place for many young people. I was looking for a place for my late lunch and I came here. As this was my first visit so I thought it would be safe to pick a bowl of ramen. I ordered the Tonkotsu Aka ramen with fatty chashu and mild spicy. It didn't take long for the noodle. The soup base was tasty without disappointment. The chashu was fatty as expected and then noodle was done well. The mild spicy taste has waken up my taste buds. The service was good and the environment was tidy. The only thing that irritated me was the flies. Hope the staff can solve that issue. read more
This is hidden gem in Kerrisdale. It located on 41st and near West Boulevard. I like the ramen so bouncy and broth flavorable. My favorite side dish - crispy chicken. It so crispy and juicy. The service is great and friendly. They also straightly follow health protocol. I will become their regular customer if I'm craving for ramen noodles. read more

Initially, we went only because of the ramen flight, but it is not available at this location. Instead, we had a few happy hour dishes since we arrived at 3:30 pm. The restaurant was not too busy on a Friday, but I could see a few groups in and out on the patio prior to our arrival. Food: Salmon Tacos - $6.10. Two mini crispy wonton tacos made with sashimi-grade salmon, cherry tomato, white onion, and cilantro. Taste: 7/10. This is basically a DIY salmon hand roll (see image). The seaweed is laid out with rice, salmon, and toppings on top. I could not taste the toppings. It was nothing special. I think the most interesting aspect of the Salmon Tacos is the compressed towel that came with it. The compressed towel is a fiber towel that is compressed into the shape and size of a small tablet. The towel tablet expands when water is added to it (see video). This is great since you should wash your hands before rolling up the food. Takoyaki - $8.85. Five pieces of battered octopus, egg tartar, okonomi sauce, mayonnaise, dried bonito flakes, green onion, and shredded nori seaweed. Taste: 7/10. The overall dish looks appealing and resembles the street food you get at the night market. Like all takoyaki, the inside is gooey. That's how it is and may taste weird to first timers. The gooeyness is what most vendors strive for because it adds to the uniqueness of takoyaki. read more

Unlike Tom W. the first to review, I was the next day crew who waited 2 HOURS in line for their grand opening. Sigh....I really wish I hadn't....but sadly I was getting orders for a few trapped inside who needed a ramen break. I'll start with the pros. The friendly staff....after waiting an hour and a half in line....the staff was very friendly and helpful. They really helped diffuse any frustration that came with ordering (a lot that wasn't available after the 1.5 wait) The Takoyaki was delicious! Crispy outside and yummy octopus filling inside, with plenty of sauce and egg tartar salad. The chicken ramen was delicious as well, a lot of chicken breast, although more of a sliced meat format, rather than fresh chicken from the bone. The flavoured egg was delicious and perfectly oozy, just like you want it! And the noodles tasted fresh. I think ordering in, it will be an amazing new hit! Now for the cons The Tonkatsu Aka ramen broth literally had no flavour....the broth was actually quite terrible and just had a fatty sludge on top and no salt whats so ever. I actually called back to find out if there was a mistake...maybe they forgot to add the seasoning? And they said they weren't quite sure, the broth wasn't meant to be salty. I didn't want it to be salty, but we did expect flavour! And it had NONE! Which was very disappointing. I'm going to chalk it up to a mistake, seeing as the crazy couple day opening they had. I hope to try it fresh one day. The sign up front said 60 min wait for line and food. We waited in line for 1.5 hours to order and then told 30-40 minutes after we ordered! When we finally were able to order, they were out of half the things we wanted! And that was really really disappointing. I would've expected them to let the long line up of people know when they ran out of certain things. For example, I would never stay in line for an hour for ramen, no matter how good! But I was excited to try the salmon Yuzu ceviche, the ebi mayo prawns and their scallop seafood temaki! But all of these things were sold out. So....we had a really disappointing first try....we'll see if one day we'll give it another try. read more
Very solid tonkatsu Ramen just moved in to Kerrisdale. Today is the grand opening of Zubu. It takes over the former Jinya location. For its grand opening all proceeds go to charity. Being second in line we ordered the Ramen to go. It is a little slow taking 20 minutes to prepare. The wait was worth it! I had the Tonkatsu Kuro with thick noodles. It came with a few pieces of thick chashu pork and seaweed. Noodles were bouncy and the pork broth was rich/ flavorful. Am very satisfied. The Yatai chicken was good too. The chicken slices were substantial and the bamboo pieces were generous. It was a nice change if you wanted something less greasy. Iwill definitely come back. Food is 5 stars. Service and experience - 4 stars. read more
Simply outstanding! Place very clean and pristine! Proper covid precautions in place. Service quick and efficient!Ambiance very modern and inviting, and cozy on a rainy day! The Ramen...oh so good and excellent! noodles were cooked just right, the broth so invigorating and bursting with flavour. the way it tasted told me lots of effort and countless hours were spent simmering away and extracting maximum flavour. Generous portions of meat, and as a value added, table-side fresh garlic press. Even the presentation was a work of art itself. Every ingredient has its place and held their ground. One of the top 5 ramen places for sure! Ive already repeated! Lol Cheers! Happy eating! read more
Solid Japanese restaurant located in Kerrisdale offering ramen. There's no shortage of good/great Japanese eateries in Kerrisdale. ZUBU stands out in that they emphasize ramen/noodles. They do have poke bowls and deep-fried treats, but most customers seem to come for the ramen; at least we do. We've tried a few varieties of their ramen. The broth is hearty, thick and flavorful. Noodles are perfect in their firmness. The only disappointment is the rather meager servings of meat. Regardless of ordering chicken or pork, the small meat portions will leave you yearning for more. And, considering the elevated price of approximately $14-$16, I'm sure they could add another slice of pork or chunk of chicken, no? The poke bowls are a kaleidoscope of color. I appreciate the effort in arranging all the colorful pieces to enhance the presentation. The fish tastes fresh and feels firm. The portions appear small, but one bowl should satisfy most people. Service is polite and proficient. But, keep in mind that during COVID-19 times, you will need to spend a moment filling in some contact tracing forms and sanitizing your hands prior to being seated. Nice ramen place is only an extra chunk of chicken away from a five star review. read more
I stopped into Zubu the other day for a quick lunch, they were already so busy by noon and was only able to seat me by the patio which was okay with me, their patio was at the back of the restaurant and has no access to wifi and tons of bees which I didn't enjoy. The service was a bit slow and you can feel a bit neglected sitting in that patio area since you aren't in the main restaurant. The salmon avocado hand roll was pretty good but the fish was okay, not as fresh as you expect. The tonkotsu kuro ramen was really good and consistent with the other Zubu locations. The broth was really good and the ramen noodles had a nice al dente bite. All the crispy onion toppings and woodear mushrooms paired really well too. All in all, it was a delicious lunch but I'm not sure if I will return to this specific location since I didn't get to experience the main ambience of the restaurant. read more

Ramen restaurant in the Zubu Chain located in the Kerrisdale area. They have a patio both on the street and in the back of the restaurant. Service was fast and friendly. They have a lunch special set with choice of appetizer, ramen or rice bowl and mochi ice cream dessert. The appetizer selection is edamame, fries or shishito pepper. We tried the spicy chicken ramen, pork ramen, crispy chicken and unagi hand roll. The crispy chicken / Karaage was nicely done. Unagi hand roll had a lot of rice. The ramen here is thin noodles. Broth is rich and hearty in both the spicy chicken and pork ramen and good flavour but too oily for me. Ramen comes with two pieces of protein (pork or chicken) and other standard toppings. Ice cream mochi was sweet. Good place for quick eats and drinks. Overall standard ramen chain in the area. read more
Hooray for Ramen in Kerrisdale! A lovely day it was, good time for a refreshing alcoholic beverage. I am talking about the Juliana's Tokyo 12oz summer special. Lychee and peach! The crispy chicken had a very tender taste. I highly recommend the crispy chicken and salad combo. The gyoza was smaller than expected, would have gotten an extra star if it was slightly bigger. LOL Both ramens, the Brussel sprout and Tonkotsu were very good. If you are a fan of Brussel sprouts with ramen, then that would be the choice for you. Choose the fatty chashu for those days when you are craving the meaty taste. And for the Tonkotsu with lean chashu, choose this one looking for a lighter stomach, yet still flavourable. read more

Unpopular opinion: My favourite ramen in the Lower Mainland is the Brussel Sprouts ramen at ZUBU (they previously had it at Jinya before the change, too). Something about the combination of crispy fried Brussel sprouts, a rich balanced pork broth, fatty chashu, and chewy alkaline ramen noodles satisfies me every time. read more
The soup base of their chicken ramen is almost as good as Marutama's , i.e. very flavourful . But what really sets them apart from most of their peers is their impressive sake selection . Clearly they're aiming at the higher end of the market and their pricing shows . Anyhow this is probably our fave noodle joint in the hood . read more
As far as ramen places that offer vegan ramen in Vancouver, this is pretty middle-of-the-road. I ordered their spicy vegan ramen for takeout one evening and it was ready within 10 minutes. Compared to the "vegetarian ramen", the spicy vegan ramen has far fewer vegetables, but contains some different spices and oils (the spicy part)--not sure how this warrants the $15.50 price tag. The broth is moderately flavourful and decently spiced, though nothing all that special to be honest. The kale noodles (in green) are solid and come in a decent portion. The toppings are solid but sparse, and again, I would like some veggies with this (and not have to add toppings for another $2-5 or whatever). All in all, with so many superior vegan ramen options in town (Danbo, Benkei, Gyo Para, etc.), I don't think I'll return. But it's a solid spot if you're in this part of Kerrisdale. read more

Not only did they take over Jinya's previous restaurant locations I think they also took over some of their menu items. I think it fell short of what I originally had at Jinya's but it could also be that I had to go and that made up for the difference in quality. Nothing too spectacular - I wouldn't go out of my way to try their ramen and bun. Their hand roll is pretty neat. First I've seen in Vancouver. It's very convenient for those on the go. You unwrap, roll and eat. The taste was not too bad either. read more
