Akedo Showten - Original Ramen - Ramen Near Me - Langley, British Columbia

With AKD ramen having recently closed down in New West, I was glad to see this place still around. This place gets busy. Luckily, you can join their waiting list through Google without having to go to the restaurant first. I tried the place out because they have a vegan ramen ($16.50). With all their ramens, you choose either a white (like a shio), black (like a shoyu), or red (miso) broth base. I got the black broth, and ordered a side of cold tofu ($5.25) since there's no protein in the vegan ramen. The tofu came out in about 5 minutes: 5 slices of soft tofu with some interesting, crispy garnishes. Nothing too exciting but pleasant appetizer. The ramen came out after another 5 minutes (as I was finishing the tofu). The broth was very rich and salty in a good way, with plenty of depth. The dish came with plenty of thin, well-cooked noodles, corn, cabbage, you choy, carrot, and green onions. I wish they'd add tofu or other vegan protein. Despite this gripe, this was an excellent bowl of ramen. Excellent place. read more

They use noodles from Costco, broth tastes like powder mix, gyoza was okay but you can get cheaper and better from TNT

Located in downtown Langley. Lots of parking in the complex . This place gets busy so give yourself some time to wait. Their portions are good and they don't shy away with the chasu cut. Broth and noodles are good. Small restaurant that is efficient with customer flow and probably the best ramen spot in this side of town. read more

Amazing as always! Had the Original Ramen with White broth ($12.95) again and it was just as good as I remembered it to be! Also tried the Cheese with White broth ($15.45) - it was really interesting to have cheese in my ramen. Can't say that I loved it as I found the cheese to be a little overpowering, but I'm glad I tried ti! However, I will definitely be sticking to the Original Ramen next time! read more

A tiny restaurant yet big flavours at an unexpected location. Pretty well executed ramen with a broth which had a great velvety texture and the soy seasoning was a must get. The garnishes were nice complements, fresh, and the properly prepared soy marinated egg with its tantalizing egg yolk jewel was a great touch. The protein could be slightly more tender but otherwise the char from the BBQ was prominent on the nose and went well with the broth. Definitely worth a second visit. read more

Boy was I impressed coming to eat at Akedo. A friend and I just happened to be in the neighbourhood running some errands. The initial place we went to was closed and we were looking for somewhere else. I'm glad we bumped into Akedo because it was amazingly delicious. The broth was so rich (which you can adjust if it's not your thing), with a healthy portion of meat. Usually when I'm having ramen, it's 3 pieces of meat which isn't enough for me. The servers were kind and fast. The place is not super big, but not too small. It was busy and we happened to snag the last table available so we didn't have to wait. Really recommend Akedo, I will definitely be back! read more

Loved the other location in New West so I was excited to try out the Langley outlet. I had the Ajitama Ramen and it had waaaayyy more slices of chicken than I thought there would be which was a pleasant surprise. The soup was tasty and super flavourful as well. I like that there is the option to make it spicy for just $0.70 more! Oh and the gyoza is to die for! They use the same recipe and techniques as they have been doing in Wakayama, Japan for 20 years! read more

Came on a Thursday and there were a few tables available. It was the dead of summer today but they had AC unlike some ramen joints downtown. AC is def a must for me to enjoy ramen in soup in the summer. Had the Ajitama black ($14) which was such a good choice for me. I wasn't sure about the soy base since most places had their soy base quite salty but this was just right. There was also black garlic oil in the bowl. Noodles were the thin ones cooked al dente. Kaedama is $2. The broth was rich and flavourful but it didn't feel super heavy when I was done. Service was fast and efficient. Restaurant was very clean and tidy. Great place for a quick meal when you're in the area. read more

We've been dying to try this place but was never able to because of their hours of operations, but we finally got a chance on a weekday evening! We ended up waiting for 40-45 min. Service was mediocre but it was almost the end of the night so some servers looked tired. We ordered the deep fried gyoza (I can't comment because I didn't try it), black original ramen (I can't comment because I didn't try it), white ajitama ramen, and chicken karaage. Prices are decent around $25 per person. The white broth was quite light and had a hint of ginger and seafood flavour. While I appreciate the no msg broth, I found the flavour a bit bland and lacking in depth. The egg was well marinated with a runny yolk which I like. I'm usually not a fan of thin noodles, but these were nice texturally - not too chewy/soft/hard. The description of the ramen says "bbq chicken chashu" and while the chashu was very soft, we didn't understand what the "bbq" aspect was. We were expecting some sort of charred chashu but it looked like sous vide chicken. The chicken karaage was juicy and not overly battered with too much skin. It was served with 2 types of salt on the side. Again, I found the chicken bland. I wanted some sort of flavour and not necessarily dip it in the side of salt. All in all, the meal was subpar and not worth the wait. I think I would wait around 15 min at most. Unfortunately, I got a stomach ache after the meal and ended up on the toilet a few times when I got home (sorry TMI!) read more

Unpopular opinion - I'm not huge on ramen and so there are only a very few places that I'll actually go to for ramen. Everyone has their own preferences on broth and noodle thickness and Akedo hits the spot for me. The only thing is, the chicken chashu is dry but at no fault of their own as chicken (chashu) is generally dry and hard to make juicy. Pro tip - get their chili oil. Add an egg. And the pork chashu. And the gyoza. Maybe just order one of everything on the menu. Check out their section location in New West for some curry and more ramen. read more

Akedo Showten - Ajitama - $12.65 in the front, Meat Lovers with added nori - $14.45 in the back. - Ramen Near Me - Langley, British Columbia

Dropped by to try out this relatively new ramen spot in Langley and it was great! Coming back from Japan, I didn't think that ramen here would satisfy me the same way but I actually really enjoyed the ramen here at Akedo and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. With any of their ramen, you can choose from 3 different broths: white (shio), black (shoyu), and red (miso). I got the Ajitama White Ramen ($12.45) which had BBQ chicken chashu, yu choy vegetables, green onions, and an ajitama egg. It was really yummy and comforting. The ramen came out very hot which is what I expect from any type of soup noodle dish. What I like about their ramen is that it's also different from the majority of ramen shops which serve pork broth - this one was chicken! It's lighter compared to other broths but still packed a punch of flavour. It was also chicken chashu instead of the regular pork chashu. I've had chicken chashu before at other places which is usually dry and bland but I'm happy to say that Akedo's was not like this at all! It was very flavourful with a strong BBQ taste and it was perfectly cooked - very tender without completely falling apart. We also got Gyoza to share. They're not your typical gyoza - they're a lot thinner. I think they're supposed to be crispy but ours weren't super crispy. They were good too but nothing to really rave about. I wish they had more filling and had more texture. Nevertheless, the ramen was the true star of the meal and I highly recommend trying it out! read more

We came here around 6pm on a Saturday and got lucky! After a few people came after us, they were sold out and done for the day! We waited around 30 minutes in the line but it was all worth it! It was our first time coming to this shop. Like most ramen places, if there's a line up outside, be sure to look out for a sign up sheet, and write your name down - this is their system for lining up guests! As we came in as the shop was just about to sell out, my first impression of how the staff managed the line up the was not as impressive. The staff had a conversation with the last group on the sign-up list first, before letting the people on top of the list get seated inside the restaurant. I felt this unreasonable and made them seem unorganized (despite the shop being open for a while now). As soon as we were seated though, everything went well! The staff were friendly and quick to attend to us (ie. gave us water as soon as we sat down, and took our order as soon as they saw we were ready). As it was our first time here, I appreciate how the staff suggested which items to get and with which additional toppings! We ordered the AJITAMA Black ramen, and it was amazing! Truly delicious! The soup base was creamy and rich, but also light enough that you can enjoy having a couple of sips during the meal. I noted that they serve a little bit less of the soup in the dish compared to other places, but it all comes together as the soup was just the right amount relative to volume of the perfectly chewy thin noodles that it came with. The chicken chasu was soft and surprisingly flavourful! They have sesame seeds, garlic chips, and chili on the side for you to add to the soup according to your preference. The serving alone is filling enough, but if you wish to have more, they also offer extra noodles on the side for an additional fee. They do note that you need to have left over soup still, as the noodles alone will not be as flavourful. We also ordered their Yuki Pari Gyoza (pan fried homemade gyoza). Their gyoza has a relatively thin skin which allowed for some crispy texture into the dish. For six pieces per order, I thought the price was reasonable. Overall, I'm glad to know there's a really good ramen shop we can now frequent in Langley onwards! read more

An authentic, well-presented and high quality ramen restaurant in the lower mainland of BC?! Be still, my Japanese noodle soup-loving heart! Their interior is so beautiful and bright, but seating is incredibly limited even for a ramen spot. We also had to be asked exactly how many bowls we were going to order before we went in, because they were running low on broth (and they only make 2 batches a day). We were seated and shown a short menu, basically allowing us to choose from six different ramen bowls. This sounds very limiting, however what was nice is that they give you your 3 options for broth flavours - so instead of offering bowls with different broths as separate options, you can make your own bowl + soup combo and additional toppings at an extra cost. The best part of eating ramen is that first hit of delicious savoury broth and fresh made noodles...this is what determines the soup CREAM of the crop (literally). Their shio broth was comparable to Marutama, which a rich, smooth and creamy chicken soup that really hits the spot. The noodles were great as well, but there was something that was a bit off to keep it from being a full replacement. My tastebuds aren't sophisticated enough to know for sure, although I still loved it. Finally, their gyozas were excellent - fresh, juicy and full of meaty flavour. You can ask to get them cooked 3 different ways, and we got them pan fried. I loved how the wrapper was almost paper-thin, making it super crisp around the outer edges and have a nice chew in other areas. Service was incredibly friendly, and more than willing to assist customers that weren't as familiar with ramen, which is always great to see. I'm also super thankful to not have to commute all the way to downtown Vancouver and wait in line for an hour or more for legit ramen anymore! I will also continue to be a patron here simply because their employees go the extra mile to make your experience here even better! read more

We came here as a suggestion from family. We have had great ramen around town, especially downtown. Since they had great ratings, we were stoked! Except... we were not impressed. We started with deep fried gyozas which were quite tasty and they came with a couple salt dips I think that's what they were. For the ramen itself, I was disappointed with the miso my boyfriend had. It was not creamy at all. I decided to go for the soy base because I didn't want to pay $1.50 for miso and the soy was a lot tastier. Usually it can be salty so I don't enjoy it but it was prettty good. The meat was unfortunately dry as well. Overall it just wasn't the best choice. I'm glad we got to try it though! read more

Akedo Showten - Miso and shoyu ramen - Ramen Near Me - Langley, British Columbia

The food can be delicious, and the ingredients are generally fresh and high quality, yet across multiple visits, the quality of the preparation yields inconsistency in the flavor and taste of the food. At its best, everything can be totally delicious. However, the next visit can be quite a disappointment in terms of the ramen bowl being off in multiple ways, the appetizers not tasty or seasoned correctly, anf the pan fried gyoza not cooked well and all stuck together with doughy mushy wrapper. My last visit was a total disappointment, and I won't rush to go back now as it made me feel blah and yucky, vs being happy and nourished. I was sorry I went. The previous visit impressed me as one of the best ramen meals I had day in recent years. This lack of consistent focus in the kitchen can't transcend a 3-star rating because it is the sign of an average restaurant and not a great one. Service is undeniably warm, efficient, and excellent. That helps as you definitely don't go for the atmosphere, which is very small, compact, and simplistic, which can be rather boring. They say they make their own Gyoza filling and wrap them themselves. That makes me wonder why the ultra small Japanese convenience store sister business they own next door sells so much processed food like frozen low quality commercial gyoza. That comes across as typical, less healthy processed food. Worried, they are losing sight of the quality priroities that makes their brand, business, and it's product special and desirable. They definitely need to step up more on the food preparation and reduce the cooking variation to serve better meals that motivate the trip to an uninteresting strip mall in Langley. Are there under trained chefs there now, or are they losing their passion and focus? It's not super expensive, but it's not cheap either for unpredictable and unreliable dining experiences. read more

The Ramen is delicious!! The noodles are perfect, the broth is rich and creamy. The crunch of the chinese broccoli is a nice addition to the broth. The Gyoza is nice and crispy on one side and super soft on the other. Very well executed. This place is a gem. Worth a try forsure! read more

Such a cute little Ramen place! It is clean, bright and super cheerful! Upon entering you will be greeted by the friendliest staff...who are also attentive and efficient! Now to the Ramen! I ordered the Original Ramen...without the egg as I am not an egg fan! Choosing the black broth option! Presentation was great and there was a great depth of flavour in the broth. The proportions were bang on...good balance of chicken to broth and noodle! The Gyoza's were my favourite part! We ordered the Yaki Gyoza's which are freshly made...daily...and pan fried! Super yummy...I liked that they were fried just on one side so that you have the crispy texture but...the tenderness of the fresh Gyoza isn't lost as you get that on the bottom! Great filling...only regret was sharing the plate of Gyoza's...next time I will get my own! Happy that Langley finally has a Ramen place AND that it's a good authentic bowl of Ramen!! read more

Located in a small strip mall in the heart of Langley this Ramen shop offers up a mean bowl of noodles. Not your traditional broth as this noodle bar specializes in chicken based broth. We chose to have the Ajitama with Red and Black broth, both were rich in flavor and distinct creaminess which is the results of long slow simmering of chicken and vegetables. Red: Miso based stock which consists of 3 different types of miso with Koji salt. Black: Soy based stock topped with black garlic sauce ontop. We also ordered a side of their pork cha-shu which gets a quick torch prior to serving. Overall this is a very good place considering what other options are available in this area. This would definitely fill the ramen fix without having to drive into Richmond or downtown. Noodles were nice and tender with a slight bounce to them. One start knocked off for the egg... as with all ramen, the running egg is part of the experience but all 4 of our eggs were overcooked and the yolk had set. Also did not care much for the Gyoza. Found it to be overcooked and skin became hard read more

My date heard about this new ramen shop that had just opened. So after enjoying ramen the previous night in Surrey, we decided to try this one out to compare. I ordered the Ajitama because I wanted an egg in my bowl of ramen. My date ordered the meat lovers. We also ordered a pan fried gyoza. Ramen arrived fairly quickly and it was amazing! The chicken based broth was flavourful, full of depth and umami. We ordered the white and black broth base in our respective ramens. I preferred the white salt based as my go to ramen is always shio flavour. The black based had a hint of soy sauce flavour. The noodles had a nice chew. The egg was nicely seasoned. The chicken chashu was marinated well, but lean. I wish they had pork chashu as an option. The gyoza was alright. I can tell it was homemade, and was fried well. read more

Came here on a weekday for lunch and they were quite packed around noon. Luckily someone was just leaving. The tables are quite close to each other but there are plastic dividers between the tables. The environment was bright and clean. I got the black ajitama ramen. The broth was rich and noodles had a nice texture with a bit of a bite. However I felt that the chicken chashu was disappointing, it seemed like it was just boiled or steamed without much seasoning. I would think that chashu would be marinated or finished with some char, but this chashu was quite plain. The portion was just right for me. I also got the yaki gyoza. The flavours were good but the size of the gyoza is on the small size compared to some other places. Service was friendly and overall I still enjoyed the meal. We tried Akedo after hearing about it a few weeks ago. We patiently waited in line as there were about five groups ahead of us, but the wait was only 15 minutes or so. Once seated, we promptly ordered our ramen. Each one of us had a different broth, I opted for the red miso as it looked the creamiest. I wasn't disappointed, it was so rich it tasted like a pork base but it was in fact, chicken! My bowl had chicken, and I added pork cha-su which was also good. The noodles were nicely cooked, and the egg was perfect which is a tell tale sign that the ramen will be good. Ok ok ...I never knew what REAL ramen was actually like until I step foot in this new little gem. I feel ashamed for not knowing! My husband and I ADORE this place. They make the best ramen I've ever eaten. You pick what kind of ramen you want and what type of broth. I love the black - super umami flavour. You can add extra veggies, egg and meat for an extra charge. The egg is so creamy and adds a lot of flavour to the broth. They also make a fried chicken. Wow is it ever juicy! We also like their gyoza - they all come with different types of salts or dipping sauces. Beware - if they run out of broth you are S.O.L.! And yes it happens a lot!!
