You know what... I was pleasantly surprised with the Classic Ramen in this place. The broth was in the medium thickness and the flavour profile was good for a tonkotsu. The noodles were cooked just right and the Pork Chasu is MASSIVE. The egg was cooked just right. Service was great and the place is small but inviting with lots of parking around. Great find in. south Surrey for when you cross back from the states. I had the "original" which had seaweed and egg. Broth - amazing. Rich pork flavour. I really loved it and couldnt have enough. Ramen - ok. Didn't stand out. Chewy but I prefer the really smooth thin type. Meat - decent. Egg - really good. Just short of runny. Great flavour again. Other ingredients - I loved the way they prepared the sliced green onions. Not usual cut, they are cut lengthwise which makes the look and texture more unique. I also loved the seaweed. I was pleasantly surprised to see this come on my search when in the area as I hadn't expected to find a ramen spot in South Surrey. When dining in, the server will seat you and bring out your food, but apart from that the menu and ordering is all done from your own smart phone. I was fine with that as it allowed us to put in our order right when we were ready, takes away any possible errors in the ordering process, and (for me) - reduces the tip rate since there's basically just a couple quick interactions with staff. Everything about the ramen was solid. Perhaps not better or worse than many places I've been to, but still pretty good nonetheless. One exception however: the chashu (pork belly) was exceptional. They gave a way bigger cut of pork, along with a bigger portion than probably any other place I've been to. And what also made it stand out was that it had also been seared on a grill which added a tonne of flavour and texture to it. read more

It has been a couple years since I last stopped by. I was in the area and decided to stop by for a late lunch. Covid precautions were in place. There was hand sanitizer at the front of the restaurant, contact list for tracing purposes and staff wore masks. There were only three tables available to seat customers. The menu was online with a QR code. We ordered the original and miso ramen, popcorn chicken, and two drinks. I was surprised all the food arrived before our drinks. Service was fast. There was choice of belly or chashu as meat topping on ramen. We picked chashu. It was tender and flavourful. I had the original ramen. The marinated egg was soft boiled and I was pleased that a whole egg was included. The noodles was alright. The broth was good but did not have as much depth as other ramen shops. However, I think this is a solid option for this area in Surrey. The popcorn chicken was made well and what I would expect for Taiwanese style. I also enjoyed the fried basil leaves that accompanied the chicken. I also ordered a strawberry and mango milky slush. It was refreshing. I noticed the restaurant discontinued their Taiwanese beef noodle soup. It is unfortunately because there are not many Taiwanese food options on this side of the Port Mann bridge. I was super excited to see a Ramen and Bubble Tea Restaurant to grace South Surrey's Morgan Crossing Shopping Complex - they are located next to Suki's. Upon entering, your eyes are wowed by the unique decor - a spoon wall, shelves lined with bowls and a rustic wooden interior with cozy bench seating. Staff are very friendly from start to end. My boyfriend and I came to try our their noodle dishes. I ordered the Shoyu Ramen and my boyfriend ordered the Taiwanese Beef Noodles. I was hoping for a rich, creamy broth like the many ramens I have had in Vancouver but the ramen broth was on the lighter side and didnt have as much depth in flavour. The noodle were pretty disappointing as well, pretty limp and flat with not much chewiness or thickness. The pork belly was super fatty and I really liked how they charred it with a blow torch. In the end, for the price, a mediocre bowl of ramen. My boyfriend said his beef noodle soup could have had more depth and flavour as well - a lighter soup than we are used to. The noodles were thin and nothing too special either. Although he said the beef brisket was really tender and delicious. The 4 star review is really boosted only because of the bubble tea. The Milk Tea with Pearls was well-balanced in the richness of tea and creaminess of milk - also, I didn't have to say 1/2 sweet - it was made perfectly. The pearls were really chewy and had a slight sweetness to them too! My boyfriend had a lychee slush and it had real lychee at the bottom as well! There is a bubble tea punch card as well - so I'll be sure to come back and try to fill up that card for a free bubble tea! In the end, still very happy we have some noodle and rice dishes in the Morgan Crossing neighbourhood. But extra excited there's some legit bubble tea only a 5 minute walk away from us! I had been craving ramen for a very long while but didn't have the motivation to leave the suburbs so low and behold I found this little business on Yelp. My hubby and I made our way to get some ramen when we stumbled upon a very mixed menu. Predominantly Taiwanese cuisine, this restaurant also had bubble tea choices and the ramen was the odd one out! At that point I was a little nervous about the ramen quality given the Taiwan dominant food items, but to my surprise, I was happy with the ramen. My hubby got the Taiwanese beef noodle soup based on a previous yelper's recommendation and while it was good, I preferred my miso ramen. With our new info we decided to order one of our personal favourite, the salty peppery chicken. Can't go wrong with this one. Lastly, I noticed they had brown sugar bubble tea being ordered among our neighbouring customers so I was happy to order one. Turns out it was the latest one of the batch because a group of teens had come in just to order a bbt to go but had to pick their second favourite. Oops. I definitely enjoyed their brown sugar bbt and would encourage you to try it as well. Hubby got a mango slush which was pretty good too. The space is cozy with some modern decor. Everything here is top notch!! If you're looking for a ramen restaurant in White Rock, you have to try this place. Better than all the "best ramen" places in Toronto, Vancouver and Richmond. The pork slices in the ramen melt in your mouth like butter. You can't find that anywhere else! Try it and you'll see for yourself! After a long day of furniture shopping, we found this Taiwanese gem on yelp. Popcorn chicken- 4/5 Chicken was a little dry, maybe that's a good thing because they use the healthier white meat. The batter was okay, I've had better in Richmond. But still 4/5 because I didn't have to drive 30 minutes. Beef noodle soup 4.5/5 Flavorful, perfect amount of spices. Food came out piping hot. It was ok. I'm always hesitant to go to ramen shops that aren't run by actual Japanese people. Don't get me wrong . There's plenty of cuisines out there that others can make like its authentic but to me ramen isn't one of them. The sign outside this place said ramen and bubble tea. that for me is already questionable. Then when I entered and looked at the menu I noticed that there were also Taiwanese dishes on the menu. Along with other Japanese dishes. Con-fusion. I was hoping this place was going to be legit ramen because of the ambiance and the minimalist decor. But it's not. It's ok ramen. I would rather travel downtown for better . I ordered the miso ramen. The broth lacked that porky rich flavour. There was an option of chashu and pork belly. The waitress did say that the pork belly had more fat and the chashu was leaner. I found that the pork belly was hard and didn't have that melt in your mouth texture that most ramen places have. The noodles were disappointing. It didn't have that chew that I was so craving. Will not be back for ramen. But perhaps I will come back to try the Taiwanese chicken and beef soup. As a seasoned ramen customer, I was excited to enjoy some good ramen found locally. But I am sad to say that it ended up as a major disappointment. My entire family thought that their ramen was only okay or average, certainly nothing memorable or special. And what makes it worse was the fact that some of their ramen go for $24 a bowl! Would have been worth the price if it was amazing, but it was not. We also had their squid appetizer which was almost inedible due to extreme toughness/chewiness, so that too was disappointing. I normally try to find at least something positive, so their popcorn chicken was the highlight of the entire meal, as it was good. Bill was $137.55 before tip. I was at Morgan Crossing and needed a quick pick me up as I was shopping. I don't get to Surrey very often so the last time I was there, Menzou wasn't open yet. When I came in, the waitress was very helpful in explaining their vegetarian options. The regular menu does not have a vegetarian option but she explained that they now have a hot and sour ramen with a vegetarian broth. It can be ordered mild, regular, and spicy. I went with regular and she told me I should probably get mild this time. I told her regular was fine and I am so glad I did. Regular is spicy but I could handle it fine and it was delicious! Went there on a rainy Sunday around 5:30p. The place was quiet so we got a table (for 5) without any problems. Service was fine although although we had a bit of difficulty communicating with one of the servers. Not an issue, though. Drinks include water, tea or a bewildering variety of bubble tea items. No pop at all. We tried the original and the shoyu ramen soups, plus two appetizers, fried squid tentacles and popcorn chicken. The appetizers were bigger than we expected and very nicely done. Not oily at all and quite flavorful. The popcorn chicken is like what they serve in Taiwanese restaurants or bubble tea places. The soups were good and the serving size was about right. The soup was creamy and had an interesting depth of flavours. The chasu pork slice was quite big and about 1cm thick. It wasn't tough but could've stood to be more tender. The pork belly was, as typical, smaller than the chasu but IMO it was a bit too tough. I'd say the soup and pork at Ramen Butcher in Vancouver is definitely better. But I'm not going to drive from South Surrey into Vancouver just for ramen, either. If I have a longing for ramen, I have no problems going to Menzou. It's pretty good. read more

Ramen is OK for what we can find in the area (can't compare to Vancouver). Other than the popcorn chicken, try the tofu as it is yummy! The cucumber appetizer is not bad as well. Gyoza - nothing special - I would order other things on the menu instead. The first thing that jumps out at you is the cleanliness of the place, from the dining area to the fully visible kitchen with low burners and huge stock pots used to create the pork bone broth. The next thing I noticed was the very simple ramen menu with just two types of Ramen listed: regular and shoyu. They also, however, have three dishes listed under Donburi - we chose the Chashu pork donburi and the regular Ramen. The donburi arrived first, consisting of a nice sized bowl of nicely cooked white rice topped with a generous helping of tender cubed pork in a rich light brown gravy. Though very hearty, it was not salted much, so we added some soy and the result was excellent - wonderful comfort food for a wet fall evening. Next they brought out the Ramen, which to our delight was a very Nice tonkotsu pork broth with Ramen noodles that had excellent body and flavor. Ramen noodles should be light yellow and thin, but chewy and never fall-apart. These perfectly matched this standard and I noticed that they were raw noodles that were fast boiled to order, rather than precooked. Like the donburi, the broth had not been salted much, which was yummy, but we added some salt to in order to make it taste more like what we we're used to - slightly salty and creamy rich bone broth. The full egg, not just a half like many places, was the right tan color and the yoke was perfectly jelled. The soup also included two good sized pieces of tender fatty pork, Wakame seaweed and chopped green onion with just the right ratio of noodles to broth. Both dishes were generous and filling. PRICE: The ramen was $11.50 and the donburi was $6.50, less than I'm used to paying at the good ramenyas in the lower mainland, and make no mistake, this place, though a tad austere in selection, is a very meticulous and delicious traditional ramenya. Bubble and Milk Teas: One side of the double-sided menu is composed of nothing but drinks. I'd noticed that they had received high marks in the other reviews for the excellent quality of their drinks, but frankly we were so full from the food, neither one of us could muster up enough appetite to tackle one. To wrap up, I know that Menzou has received some mediocre reviews for their soup, but when we went, everything was definitely five star. Perhaps they just needed a couple of months to work out the kinks, because they are, without a doubt, now one of the better Ramen shops in the region. My partner and I go to this restaurant all the time for bubble tea. The bubble tea is great, however, this time, we were told that we couldnt leave the store without paying the "service" fee.
