We were craving ramen and had to be in this area at the time, so we found this place that actually surprised us! It's not your typical ramen joint because looking at the menu, they have some other Asian dishes that are from different cultures. It's like a mish-mash of Asian flavours! We stuck to the ramen dishes since that's what we were after, and it was actually super delicious! Firstly, the bowls are bigger than usual ramen bowls from other Japanese joints, so you get a bit more. Your ramen comes with the basic meat/protein and a few add-ons. Optional toppings are available for $1.75 each. We ordered the miso tonkotsu and the spicy version. We LOVED it and thought it was super comparable to authentic ramen places in the lower mainland! Definitely come and try them out! The ambiance is super casual. Good for large groups as they have plenty of seating. Unassuming yet tasty. Only thing is that it's located in a part of Surrey where there's a lot of homeless folks roaming around the area. One even walked in and stopped by our table asking for money, but the owner was able to (nicely) shoo them away and apologized to us after. Not sure why there such low star reviews. Stopped by here on a Monday at noon for lunch as they are next to New Town Bakery and didn't just want Siopao. Right in Whalley city centre, this medium-sized place has an enormous menu with Japanese, Malaysian, and Thai dishes, and more. I came here to try the ramen, as they have 4 different vegetarian ramens (with vegetable broth); the regular ramen noodles have egg, so you can substitute udon, flat rice noodles or vermicelli to make it vegan. I ordered the spicy vegetarian tan tan men ($12.95 plus tax) with the flat rice noodles. The soup came out in less than 10 minutes. You get a generous portion of noodles, and copious toppings that included a few pieces of deep fried tofu, broccoli, bok choy, kikurage, menma, cabbage, corn and green onions. The broth was nicely spicy and well-flavoured, not too intense or out of balance in any way. It wasn't overly complex or a top-tier ramen broth, but it was well-constructed. Decent, quick service. Absolutely unexpected favourite! I've been walking/bus-ing past this place opposite Surrey central station for over a year now and never went in to try. After a typical hungry "I don't know you tell me where you want to eat" argument with my husband lead to "whatever the f**k closest ramen place is" and I'm glad we decided to try it out! The place is clean and spacious. We were greeted by a big smile which I have realized isn't as common as it should be. We ordered and waited somewhere thinking that this place isn't going to cut it but I don't want to say I want to go somewhere else and start an argument again!! The various meals were not labeled (expecting us to figure out what was what). The gyoza tasted as though they were microwaved. The chicken skewers were covered in grease. The broth had absolutely no flavour/spice/salt and there were layers of fat on all of them. Noodles did not appear to be fresh made (too perfect as if they came out of a factory). My husband and I love ramen. When we saw that there was a new ramen place in Surrey, we had to try it. He had ordered the truffe ramen and I ordered the shio tonkontsu garlic black (?) ramen. The flavour of the broth was very underwhelming. For a ramen which had a lot of garlic i could barely taste it! The broth was not rich in flavour like Full ramen. The noodles were a nice doneness and thickness! We had added on nori, which was basically like sushi nori.. bland and chewy. The bamboo shoots in the ramen was extremely salty!!! Too bad for my husband who ordered extra on the side. The chicken karrage we had was a good portion for the price but lacked flavour and was not very crispy, reminded me a lot of popcorn chicken from KFC. I recently discovered Umami and I'm glad I did! There's finally a ramen place in the neighbourhood. I ordered a miso ramen with a gyoza on the side. The pork slices were pan grilled which helped bring out its flavours more. The broth tasted good. It was substantial, rich, but not too heavy - I liked it! The fresh noodles were not outstanding but werent bad either. I am intrigued by the gyoza. It's quite flavourful than the usual! It's worth adding as a side with the ramen, or at least worth trying out, if you havent yet. I can definitely see myself ordering more (for to-go) from this place, in the future! read more

The Ramen was delicious, broth was so flavourful with the perfect amount of spice. The pork was crispy but a bit on the fatty side for my liking. I believe it was pork belly sliced thin. The noodles were cooked well. The main reason for the 3 stars was the chicken karaage and the Thai spring rolls. Lacked flavour, too greasy and served with Japanese mayo? Not good. That should tell you something. Ordered the tonkotsu ramen and a grilled pork bao. For me, the ramen broth is 90% of the experience; the toppings provide a little touch but I barely notice them. This broth was dull and flavourless and I've tasted more robust flavours in $0.89 instant ramen from 7/11. The bao I ordered was even worse; it was essentially slices of the same chaschu they put in ramen thrown into a bun with lettuce and salad dressing. I ate exactly one bite and put it aside. A solid 3.5 star meal and added another half a star for the service. Surrey does not have many ramen options so I am happy to see another ramen shop open. We stopped by in the evening when the restaurant only had a few tables occupied. I ordered the shio tonkotsu black and my date ordered miso tonkotsu ramen. We also made it a combo by adding gyoza and chicken karaage. Apparently, noodles and soup are made in house daily. The noodles had a good chew. The shio tonkotsu broth was okay. It lacked the depth that the I have tried at other restaurants. However, I still enjoyed my meal. The toppings were all included in the price and this made for one of the more reasonable priced ramen as most places now charge easily $15 for the same amount of toppings. The pork chashu was a good mix of fat and meat and was nicely marinated. The egg could use a bit of improvement. I have tried hard boiled egg at a number of ramen shops, but I generally prefer the soft boiled variety. I assume it must be a regional preference as there is no one set way to make noodles, broth, chashu or eggs. The egg also barely had any flavour and could have been marinated longer. The gyoza were average, but were nicely pan fried. The chicken karaage should have been renamed popcorn chicken or chicken nuggets. They were reminiscent of Taiwanese style fried chicken. There was nothing wrong with the taste or batter. It was fried well, but definitely not what I imagine karaage to be. Service was fast and efficient. Our food arrived in good time and tea was refilled multiple times. They also accepted credit card for payment. Parking in the area is challenging. We ended up paying for street parking as the lot that the restaurant is part of was full. read more

I went to this restaurant cuz my friend wanted to try it and we had to work on a project so I just followed her. Both of us hadn't tried this restaurant before so I went in fully unbiased. For first impressions, there weren't a lot of customers and the restaurant seemed a little shady but then again you can't judge a book by its cover. Some very delicious restaurants look super DANGEROUS. This ramen includes, bamboo sprouts, wood was mushroom, two slices of pork chashu, and a very sad half of a fully boiled egg. The broth of the ramen was very GARLICY and had a very strong taste of fried garlic. I didn't like the broth a lot honestly because although the "main character" of this meal was black garlic, it overpowered the original broth wayyy too much. The broth tasted very thin and did not have the layers and depth that ramen broth should have. The noodles had a nice chew and the texture was quite nice The pork chashu had a very good ratio of fat to meat and it was very flavourful and tender. The fat was tasty too which rarely comes from me as I hate meat fat and I don't eat it 99% of the time. For my ramen, they gave a lot of wood ear mushrooms and that's good because wood ear mushrooms are actually very healthy and are quite expensive so win win!! Now for the egg... it was very sad. It was a fully boiled egg. ON RAMEN In general I prefer soft boiled eggs but for ramen it's pretty much a must to have a nice pretty soft boiled egg. This egg was hard and the yolk was yellow and crumbly when I eventually did eat the egg, to my surprise, it was actually very flavourful and nicely marinated. However, because of the appearance of the egg, I was fooled into thinking that it would not taste good :( Overall, for the portion they give, the price is very reasonable. They give quite generous portions. I do not think I will come here again... maybe I will if it's an emergency.
