We love coming to Sapporo kitchen for our Japanese cuisine. We've been here for dinner at least 9 times more since we found this place a year ago. They have a large selection on their menu but our favorite choice is their dinner sets. Most importantly, their raw fish is always fresh. The karaage chicken is another favorite, along with the ramen sets. The servers are very attentive. Parking is easy, inside semiahoo shopping center. The restaurant itself is spacious inside and the menu offers a wide selection sushi and bento options. The service is mediocre since I had to wave down the waiter several times. Had lunch here before heading over the border. HD ordered the original mega roll, negitoro roll, beef yakisoba and spicy agedashi tofu. The original mega roll had Deep salmon, avocado, topped with a ball of crab meat, tobio, spicy mayo, and unagi sauce. It was deep fried with gave it a nice crunch when you bite. The sauce gave it The yakisoba was good, not as saucy as other places but still good. The noodles weren't stuck to the hotplate so you don't have that nice crispy noodle at the bottom, although the plate was really hot so not sure why it wasn't crispy on the bottom. This place is seriously legit, it's warm and welcoming from the moment you walk through the front door. I've been looking for a ramen place closer to me than my usual spot and Sapporo didn't disappoint. The food was ace - the ramen broth (I had the veggie) was so flavourful & it was loaded with veggies. It comes with a side (I had the California rolls). Been to this place a few times both with friends and on my own. Food and service are always good! No worries, the restaurant is fully packed with restaurant patrons and they do take safety precautions. I was worried about having sushi food in this South Surrey area very close to White Rock, but the outcome was better than I expected. It all started in the beginning of waiting. The host was very nice in providing hot tea while I wait for my table. NOW that is something I never had before for waiting to dine in. Ordered the following: SET B Unagi Don, Sashimi, (salmon, tuna, hamachi), chicken kaarage, salad, and tuna carpaccio. This SET B has great value with quality and quantity. I really enjoyed this dish and highly recommended if not sure what to order. Sexy Dance YES! It is literally called the sexy dance. And it sure was a delight to eat. But I must warn you that since there's no rice in this set of 5, it is wrapped with thinly sliced cucumber with a content of tuna, salmon, hamachi, ebi, and avocado. Avocado Maki roll This option for vegetarians. Pretty good, can't go wrong with this choice. It's good if you need a light snack, but keep in mind this won't fill your hunger. We made an early reservation as we were all coming from different directions and enjoyed our little corner of the restaurant greatly. The service was good and I was shocked at how much food I received. Enough for two so I did, I took some home to nosh on later! We all had something a little different, so we were happy to have our chat time between drinks and meals and the waitstaff was wonderful about giving us time to visit well after we finished our meals and drinks. I've dined in and ordered takeout more than a handful of times at the Ladner location, but I had yet to visit their location in Surrey, until a few weeks ago. The manfriend and I were craving sushi for lunch, so we decided to pop in to satisfy our craving. We walked in and were able to get a seat right away. During Covid times tables are socially distant, staff are masked up, they take your info for contact tracing, and there are plenty of hand sanitizers throughout the restaurant. We both decided to order Bento Lunch Box - A for him C for me, as well as an order of the appetizer tempura. Everything came out quickly and we were in and out of there within the hour. One thing I do have to mention is I didn't find the food as fresh as it normally is from the other location - the tempura was quite soggy, the miso soup was cold, and some of the rice in the roll was hard. Besides that, the flavour was still delicious and the service was fabulous. Our water and teas were never empty. Since this is located in a plaza, there is plenty of free parking. This is one of those consistent Japanese where you can go and know that you are going to get what you came for. I'm a sushi snob and I admit it. The rice has to be the right consistency and the flavour just soooo, not too sour, not too sweet and never salty. I've been to Sapporo a few times now when in White Rock and craving sushi. Just on the outskirts of White Rock is a little shopping centre called Semiahmoo Shopping Centre. When we visited in early September, it looked like they were doing a bunch of renovations in the mall but we were really here to try out Sapporo Kitchen (a Japanese restaurant located outside the shopping centre). We ordered the Semiahmoo Set ($15.95 lunch special) and the Leo Set ($15.95 lunch special) and then enhanced our meal with an order of Oyster Motoyaki ($9.95). The Semiahmoo Set includes unagi don, edamame, tempura, and seafood udon. The udon here was quite good and I enjoyed the tender and slippery noodles. The Leo Set includes 10pc sashimi (wild salmon, tuna, hokkigai, tai, and tako), beef teriyaki, California roll, ebi sunomono, and tempura. The sashimi was quite fresh and I thought this was a good value for the quality and quantity of food you get. I was a bit surprised that the Oyster Motoyaki was prepared and served on a ceramic escargot baking dish (used to having this served in the shell - but I know there are some concerns about the cleanliness of the shells). It's difficult to see the oysters in the picture but they're there... under all that creamy sauce and mixed in with onions and corn. It was an okay dish. Sapporo Kitchen is one of the most popular sushi restaurants in the South Surrey/White Rock area. And you can tell, especially during peak times of lunch and dinner. I've come here with my boyfriend during dinner and lunch but our most recent visit was a rainy Sunday at 1pm - it was fully occupied besides from 2 seats at the bar.... it was a little annoying because the servers were reaching over us to serve the food but still interesting and fun to see all the delicious dishes, plus we didn't want to wait 20 minutes for a table. All of the Lunch Specials sound really good and for a decent price for what is listed. I chose the Chirashi Udon Set and my boyfriend chose the Saba Set. Miso Soup came with our lunch sets, it was average miso soup with tiny bits of soft tofu and green onions - nothing too special. The Chirashi Udon Set is definitely a pretty sight to see and also plenty of food to satisfy your stomach too. Fresh, al dente pieces of sashimi x2 from a deep red salmon, fatty tuna, red snapper, clam, and octopus all on a bed of sushi rice. The Seafood Udon was a little lack luster with the only seafood items because a lonely shrimp and two small miniature scallops but the udon was bouncy and the broth had a decent taste of seafood. The Agedashi Tofu was hot and pillowy soft with a crisp outside - it was a nice touch that they had the sauce separated from the tofu so it didn't get over-soaked. My boyfriend's Saba Set had a decently fatty piece of Grilled Mackerel. Very tender and flakey with the distinct fatty, richness of the mackerel went perfectly with the rice. The Takoyaki was hot and delicious, we just wished there were bigger pieces of tako in them. My boyfriend really liked the dressing on the salad, a sweet, savoury dressing on the crisp salad was pleasant. By the time we got our food, there was a pretty big line-up at the door. Service was really busy but they managed to handle customer requests and keep the flow going. Sitting at the bar we saw a lot of different dishes being created - Sapporo Kitchen has a wide range of Japanese food from appies, sushi, noodles, rice dishes, and more - all beautifully presented to impress your tastebuds and friends. Located beside semiahmoo centre, my friend and I decided to grab a quick lunch at Sapporo kitchen. In terms of White Rock Japanese food, this place is rated pretty highly on yelp (I think no.2) so I went in with some pretty high expectations. The restaurant is nicely decorated and our waitress was super friendly. They have a bunch of lunch specials with a variety of different options at a great value. Everything tasted pretty good, but I really enjoyed the salmon sashimi, it was nice and firm and tasted really fresh. The presentation also seemed like they put in alot of effort. My friend got the chicken egg don thing, and it tasted alright, nothing too special but a nice portion. Overall, it wasn't the best sushi I've ever had, but not the worst either. The service here was very nice and the place itself was very clean with ample seating and nice decor. Sapporo Kitchen also has a pretty big menu so there's lots to choose from. When my friends and I got the bill, I liked how they divided each person's order for us so we could pay for what we each ordered separately, or have one person pay using the total at the bottom of the bill. I got the chicken teriyaki and honestly, the teriyaki sauce was spot on. It's not often I can find teriyaki in restaurants that isn't too sour or sweet to my liking. The presentation was amazing too. However, the amount of chicken easily could have been more given the price, and the dish was bulked up with veggies on the bottom which is nice if you like veggies but since they absorbed most of the sauce (and was therefore no longer refreshing) it was hard to eat. I think a light salad on the side would've been better. My friend got the dragon roll which was flavorful and like the teriyaki, had great presentation. My second friend got the pork katsu which was dry, tough, and flavorless (even some salt and pepper on it would've been nice). The tonkatsu sauce that came with it didn't taste right to either me or my friend as it tasted sour (maybe vinegary if I remember right?). The whole dish just felt very off. My last friend got the salmon with rice. She was expecting a salmon fillet but instead got a slice of salmon, bones and all. She said it was difficult to eat with all the bones and it was flavorless and bland too. The price for this dish was very reasonable though, so there is at least that. My friends all rate this place 2/5. I'm giving it a 3/5 for the presentation, because I liked the teriyaki sauce, and they serve you real tea with the tea leaves in the pot (I wanna say it was genmaicha/brown rice roasted green tea). read more

South Surrey has a very solid Japanese restaurant option! This restaurant offered a large menu to choose from. My date ordered the Leo set ($14) and I ordered the tonkotsu ramen combo ($11.95) with korroke (potato croquette). The Leo set included 10 pieces of sashimi. Although not the biggest pieces, it was nice to enjoy the variety of fresh sashimi offered. Presentation was good as well. The miso soup was served in a cute bowl. My tonkotsu ramen is not the best ramen out there. However, for a restaurant with such a large menu, it was good that the option was offered. The ramen broth lacked the depth you find at a ramen restaurant. I am pretty sure the noodles came prepackaged. The combo was a good value because it included a choice of side (rice, gyoza or korroke). The ramen toppings included chashu, bean sprout, corn, one half hard boiled egg and kikurage (wood ear/black fungus). There was also couple seaweed paper and pickled radish served separately. First time here and I couldn't be happier! My brother and I only ordered their sushi since we had ramen the day before. But according to him, who lives in this town, they DO have good ramen as well. We ordered the eel oshi and the salmon oshi. And they do not taste different from Miku's by much. The major distinction I noticed is that Sapporo's rice isn't as good, so the oshi falls apart a little too easily. But the taste is GREAT! We also got sea urchin, and it was very fresh and did not give me a bad stomach afterward. The special tuna roll (forgot the exact name sry) but the one in the first picture also tasted super good. This use to be out go to place for take out/delivery sushi but it seems like its been slowly going downhill. We decided to dine in this time and it was also our first time eating in the restaurant. The space is of decent size and ample seating. Overall cleanliness was average, some of our plates were still greasy, table sticky, fruit flies everywhere. We found ourselves constantly trying to swat them away to now share our food with them. Some of us ordered a few things to share while other in our group went with the bento box. The bento box seemed well constructed with decent selection of food. Spicy Salmon: Decent portion but lacked flavor, was more sweet than it was spicy Caterpillar Roll: This was was nothing special, quite bland and nothing to write home about. Will not order again. Dragon Roll: smaller in size but had a nice smokey flavor from the torching of the tobiko/sauce Spicy Agedashi Tofu: lots of sauce but was not soggy. This was quite well seasoned and executed. Grilled Saba: Nicely grilled and smokey but it did taste quite fishy Assorted Tempura: 3 veggies and 2 prawns. This was nice and light, crispy and not greasy. I had the Sapporo set which included 5 nigiri sushis, seafood udon, tempura and California rolls. Everything was amazing! I especially enjoyed the udon and sweet potato tempura. Nigiri sushis were lacking size (I also noticed this during dinner last time - dinner nigiri set was $17 for six pieces). However, I was completely disappointed by their sushi. I ordered assorted aburi (seared sushi). First and foremost, all the fish was completely cooked! It's supposed to be seared, not grilled; so, it should be raw inside. Also, as you can see in my photo, there's a lot of "stuff" on their sushi. For example, the tuna (second piece from right) has sea weed paste (nori tsukudani) on it, which is sweet and salty. The middle four pieces were drenched in sauces. The scallop (second from left) was drenched in red pepper sauce. It's just that these toppings and sauces are so overpowering that I could not taste the sushi! Sometimes you see a small amount of garnish on sushi, such as a small piece of shiso leaf or a tiny bit of graded daikon, but they are there in order to bring out the flavor of the fish, but never a large amount of heavily flavored toppings or sauce to mask the flavor of the fish. So, I have to say the aburi at Supporo Kitchen is just unacceptable. Although I was quite upset (and I was even offended because part of my culture was completely butchered in front of my eyes), I decided to give them a benefit of the doubt and ordered regular nigiri zushi: scallop, salmon, yellowtail, and ama ebi. The fish was fresh and the sushi tasted way better than the aburi, but I have to say the quality was mediocre at best. This restaurant's portions are amazing and just about everything on the menu was delicious! I ordered the Sapporo combo, which came with a dragon roll, generous portions of tempura, fresh sashimi, fried dumplings, and more! I was surprised to find my wife and mother in law's Combo A and B portions were just as large, and we were all filled to the brim after devouring everything in our bento boxes. In south surrey there's no sushi garden. I really wish there was one. Sapporo Kitchen had decent nabeyaki udon, the negitoro roll was standard (can't go wrong), the Tuna&Avocado roll was good, the Spicy tuna was ok (because they don't mash the spicy sauce with the tuna they layer it on). We tried the oyster motoyaki because I was craving the AYCE version from Richmond Sushi (not comparable but it was ok, it was unexpectedly cheesy). I'd go back for take out - it seemed like they did not have enough servers and the host had to serve and host.
