A small group of us congregated at Sushi Mori on a Friday evening. Got a booth and proceeded to review the vast menu of words (no images). One of us went online to get an idea of what we were ordering. Between the five of us we ordered, cocktails, appetizers, main courses, and desserts; the food met everyone's expectations. One odd thing with the cocktails, no substitution (vodka in lieu of sake) was allowed -- seemed rigid, especially since they had both liquors. The service was a little confusing as we sat there for some time waiting to order, we had to flag down someone and ask if they were our server, to which they replied "I can be." Not sure if that's typical in that restaurant or what may have happened. Our server was polite and honest, possibly new. Location and parking were simple. Interior was cool with faux cherry trees and their faux white blossoms taking center stage. Bathroom was small but clean, no where to hang your purse in the stall and no sanitary toilet covers. Bottom line: the food was clean and good, service was OK, ambiance was creative but watch out for uneven flooring. That said, I'm in no hurry to return. In fact, while a couple of us stopped in the nearby drugstore, the clerk recommended a different sushi restaurant in the same shopping center, we may try that one next time instead. read more

I stopped here for lunch after driving from Seattle and just past the Canadian border. It was my first time there, but I found it right away and was able to park for free. The interior of the store is very beautiful, decorated to resemble cherry blossoms in full bloom. The staff are also friendly and pleasant. It was nice to have hot tea served in a cast iron pot. I ordered sashimi and roll combo from Mori's lunch special. The sashimi was fresh and cut thickly, which impressed me. After eating the sashimi I was too full to eat the roll so I took it my friend place. I'd like to stop by again next time I visit Vancouver. read more

We just returned to what was our favourite place. Prices have certainly increased even beyond what we expected. Menu reductions in size and selection also dissapointing. Service was great, that said with all the competition for sushi, we won't be back. read more

What a beautiful restaurant! I've been to the Langley location years ago, but this was my first time at the White Rock location. With cast iron tea pots, a natural slate floor, fake cherry trees, and live edge tables, this is easily one of the most aesthetic restaurants I've been in (however the prices reflect that). Saw some good reviews about this place. Therefore I figured I'd give it a try. I ordered the spicy salmon bowl and a sushi combo. The quality of the food was pretty good. I'd say similar to Sushi Garden, possibly slightly better, although the pieces of nigiri were significantly smaller. And if you compare that with some of the budget sushi places like Banzai, Mori's are half the size Not sure if this restaurant is Koren-owned, but they seem to use the exact same spicy sauce as the other Korean-style Japanese restaurants. Takeout food-wise, I don't think it was the best bang for the buck. But I kind of want to go again when it reopens, just because of the interior design and decoration of the restaurant. I went to visit my friend and her family this weekend, and they took me out for dinner at this place. My first impression is about their nice decor with all the fake cherry blossom trees, even though they are fake, but very welcoming. The place is very spacious, I had my baby stroller parked between ours and others table comfortably. Three of us ordered four dishes, assorted spicy sashimi, regular assort sashimi plate, cherry blossom roll, and the lobster salad. We later realized that we didn't order any thing with carb, so we added cream chicken yakisoba. I'm super impressed with how fresh their sashimi dishes, good portion with variety. The lobster salad is prob my favorite of all, it has all the great ingredient, avocado, small scallops, small fresh shrimps, lobster,fresh greens and chunks of mango, all very yummy and tasty. The restaurant is definitely local friendly with lots of families visits. Service was not bad for ours either. They full filled our requests very fast each time, and also had waiters checking in with us, which is awesome! I will definitely come back! read more

Sushi Mori is definitely one of my favourites in terms of decor and seating. The (fake) cherry blossom trees scattered around the wooden bench seating makes you feel like you're having a picnic in park. And with the skylight and glow of the bench lights, it's a cozy setting - really good for small or large groups! My boyfriend and I have come here twice during their lunch hours. Always greeted and sat promptly, present with complimentary edamame and hot, rice tea. Their lunch specials include sushi combos, and bentos with yaki udon, yaki soba, chicken or beef teriyaki and udon soups, which came with gomae, tempura and California rolls. Their sushi rolls are made well with a good balance of rice and fresh ingredients. The specialty rolls are nicely presently, but as with most rolls, very sauce-based. Nonetheless, good flavours and ingredients. The yaki soba and yaki udon are pretty good - the noodles are chewy and made well with the correct flavours. Overall, a pretty solid sushi restaurant. Service has generally been great, unless it starts to get busy then sometimes its hard to grab their attention. I have chosen this sushi place over others in the past, however, yesterday, when I received my order I was disgusted with the quality and won't be ordering again. I ordered a double dynamite roll that arrived cold and stale, clearly it wasn't made fresh and so thinly sliced I couldn't pick it up with chop sticks. The gyoza was hardly prepared properly, still raw. And since I ordered thru Skip I'm not leaving my review with them as they are the delivery service and not at fault. One of the staples sushi joints! Love the decor and the atmosphere and the food! My only complains is the service and lack of attention from the serving staff. I've been here on multiple occasions and usually find that you have to ask for even a glass of water. I think water should be served right away, without asking. Additionally, you really have to tag the staff down to get some service. I can overlook most of those things because the food and the prices are great! read more

Honestly the worst service you will ever received especially if you have a big group. Waiting for about 45 minutes before our server decided to ask if we wanted to order. The food took almost the same time as we waited to be serve, sushi is dry and way over sauce and the appetizers was over fried and cold. Overall this was the worst japanese restaurant me and my family have ever been too. This is not for the other location but the one in surrey on 24th avenue is making the name Sushi Mori look bad. Great place to eat and take the family! This restaurant deserves its own categories of different 5 stars. Decor: 5 The interior is beautiful and reminds me of a traditional and rustic Japanese restaurant. I've lived in Japan for many years and this place has an authentic feel and definitely reminded of my time there. They have large imitation cherry blossom trees throughout the restaurant that really create a charming ambiance. Service: 5 The food is served fresh and/or piping hot very quickly, especially considering how full the restaurant was. My family was greeted upon arriving and seated quickly. Service was attentive but not annoying. Staff: 5 Most if not all of the employees appeared to be Japanese and they were quiet, polite, and humble, as I remember from Japan. Order was taken quickly and served quickly. Tea and water was always refilled at the appropriate time. I think the secret to their success is they seem to work as a team. Different staff refilled drinks, took order, delivered food, etc., it makes for a quicker process and your waitstaff not being tied up in their own section like other restaurants. I spoke my limited Japanese to the staff and many were kind enough to indulge me and reply in Japanese. Food: 5 I'll admit, I'm not a huge sushi eater and it's something I'll crave only from time to time. So I'm no expert or super critic. I would rate the sushi as a 4 of 5. It was tasty and fresh, but it didn't have that wow factor that I've seen from other locations. Don't get me wrong, it was good and the variety was great. So if I say the sushi is a 4, then why a 5 star? Well sushi isn't the only food that they serve. They have a good selection of traditional Japanese dishes, such as Yakitori (grilled meat on a stick), Takoyaki and more. The Yakitori was delicious and cooked perfectly. If you have never had Takoyaki, then you need to try it, it's delicious. Their Takoyaki is authentic as it gets, and took me back to eating from the food vendors on the streets of Osaka, Japan. Also, the portion sizes were very good for the price. Lastly, price. Great price and different options for every budget. Great place for Japanese food. We came here and got the bulgogi lunch bento, beef teriyaki bento, salmon aburi sashimi, and a dynamite roll. Both of the bentos came with an abundance of beef, especially the bulgogi box. The cuts were very tender and flavourful, definitely worth the $15+- especially since it came with 3 nigiri sushis, a california roll, spinach ae, tempura, rice, and a miso soup. I loved the sauce that was used in the spinach, probably miso with sesame. The beef teriyaki box was similar to the bulgogi, but no rice, nigiri, tempura, or miso. But it is a lower price, so understandable. Presentation of the food is quite lovely, and the sauces are just amazing. The sushi was quite well made, the rice held together and there was definitely vinegar in there. I'm still sort of traumatised after my last meal of sushi at another place. Service was quick and friendly, also generous with their wasabi and pickled ginger. All in all, average pricing, great food and service, would come back again. read more

The best sushi in the South Surrey / Grandview area. Interior is beautiful with dogwood trees illuminated by LEDs under a skylight. The Udons are all excellent. Be sure to order the Salmom Aburi sashimi, small, but a nice cut of Salmom that's seared only on one side. Try and avoid prime time hours, place is usually open till 9 or 10pm and staffing seems to be tight at times. read more

I have been coming to Sushi Mori for a few years now with my family. It's beautiful, timely and has great quality sushi for a reasonable price. They also have a good selection of vegetarian rolls and their squash roll is one of a kind! I love to have rolls with brown rice and the smoked salmon roll is one of my favourites. Beautifully decorated with Japanese "cherry blossom trees" inside and very attentive service. Food was quick and delicious. I got the sweetie roll which comes with yam fries, chicken karage with side of white rice for my son. Miso soup was perfect. They give free green tea (not one of those places that charges for tea!) and even brought plastic ikea plate and child size cutlery for my son which made him happy. It was packed (good sign) yet still great service. I'm definitely going back! My bill was $22 with tax and tip. We came hungry and left happy!! read more

I have dined at this restaurant numerous times. I have found the staff to be very friendly and very helpful. In fact over the last several visits we have noticed the customer service has really elevated. The sushi is fresh. You can tell that they have just made it based on the taste. We often order a lot of sushi rolls and never have a complaint about them. We find the food to be delicious and the ambience of the restaurant is quite nice. There is a very nice Japanese touch to the location. They have decorated the premises with a lot of Japanese items as well as two beautiful trees with white flowers that are in the center of the restaurant. This Japanese restaurant gives ambiance for a nicer dine in experience. Definitely one of the most aesthetic Japanese restaurants around South Surrey/ White Rock. The menu is massive which means you'll be spending a lot of time deciding what you want to order if you've never been. The rolls can be a little pricier than it's competition, but the quality and selection is really worth it. Their standard rolls are quite good and nicely proportioned with just the right amount of rice. They have a lot of "clean" options, but they also have a ton of special rolls that are super tasty with all sorts of sauces, cream cheese, and seared flavours. The magma roll is probably one of my favourites of the decadent rolls, as well as the mango tango roll. Their cleaner rolls are really delicious too. I also found that their sashimi portion is getting a little more generous since the first time I was there (it was sliced pretty thin the first time and I know a lot of people like their sashimi a little thicker). The staff is always really attentive and if you order enough food, they always seem to throw in something like agadashi tofu or drinks for free - not something I've experienced at the other sushi places in town. 3.5 stars. They have a very nice interior with the cherry blossom trees and the seating area is quite unique. It would be good place to go in big groups as they have space and seating to accommodate larger parties. They also have an extensive menu. This is Korean owned so they do have some korean dishes in addition to typical Japanese menu. I really like their spicy salmon sashimi as the sauce is quite spicy and tangy at the same time. But in terms of food quality, it is okay. But they do have lots of special rolls so if this is something you look for and like, I would suggest trying some of their special rolls. read more
