My go-to's are the apple tarts, hopia baboy (small filipino pastry buns filled with sweet pork & winter melon fill), siopao's (steamed rice bread bun with chicken or beef or veg filling) & massive fried sesame balls with sweet red bean paste (buchi) You're won't be here for pretty decor (makes it more legit), but for just great food! Expect long lineups & to pay in CASH! :) My only wish is that they had some kind of delivery affiliation. I also go there (either location) whenever I know I'm nearby. The layout of the interior, lighting, tables & bar are what restaurants should look like - amazing vibe & style. I was impressed. Sat out on the patio, which was closed due to the overcast sky. Nonetheless, it actually felt comfortable sitting there. Tried a new menu item - Scallop + Prawn Ceviche. It was excellent. Also went for the always reliable - Szechuan Lettuce Wraps. Both these items were stellar in taste & presentation. I had just enough room for dessert - the Chocolate Lava Cake. So good I wanted another one! The hosts & servers were warm & very pleasant. We ordered our martinis, which were delicious vibrant, balanced, and themed to the city. They were delicious and the mixture was mixed perfectly. He had the White Rock and enjoyed it; I had the Green Timbers. Our charcuterie was expertly plated and gorgeous to look at, along with fresh and delicious. The cheese, cured meats, and fruits were fresh, crisp, tangy, and perfectly paired with one another for a solid appetizer. We then had our encores. The steak I had (he had the duck) was the most supple, soft, juicy, and perfectly cooked medium rare I've had in my memory. I swear. If you love steak.. you'll love it. Perfectly seasoned, supple and soft... gorgeous. Along with the pillowy, crispy potatoes and veggies? Classic! The waitstaff were friendly, efficient, attentive, and cordial, with a smile and clearly loved their job. Ours, Mike, said he'd been at the place for over 10 years.. clearly, he liked coming to work. The wine flights were not great. The wines tasted oxidized. The service was OK, the guys doing the table side were excellent. Our waitress I think the table beside us had her running in circles being extremely demanding over a red wine so I'm not sure if that's why our service was not great. I feel that considering it was not just any anniversary but our 25th, they did nothing to make the evening feel special which was disappointing. I'm disappointed as I was so excited to try Old Surrey Restaurant as we were hoping we could come here going forward for birthdays and anniversaries.
