We had 2 non sushi eaters so they had chicken teriyaki which was absolutely delicious. Came with soup and rice. Highly recommend that dish! Sushi people said their rolls were delicious as well. We walked here for some quick sushi craving fix. We got here around 5:30 pm and the restaurant was already half full. It's not our first time here but it has been a while since our last visit. This time we kind of looked around why other people order before placing our order. They have plastic table setting for kids. This time we ordered their assorted sushi set, grilled asparagus, chef roll, double tuna roll, aburi salmon oshi, chicken teriyaki soba and agedashi tofu. 3 of the times were from their recommended list. Prices are incredibly reasonable, and there are many different sushi types you can have, including Nigiri, rolls, sashimi, etc. The fish here tastes very good. The takara sushi at boundary road is a nice sushi place for sushi lovers. It offers palatable and delicious sushi options both for vegetarians and non vegetarians. We tried so many different things at once. In appetizers we ordered edmame, Ebi mayo , agedashi tofu ( my personal favorite). For sushi we ordered sunshine roll and yam tempura roll in vegetarian and unagi roll, smoke salmon rolls. Being a vegetarian I had the vegetarian dishes and they were fresh and nice in taste plus really filling. My non vegetarians friends loved the eel role and prawns in mayo the most but they also savoured other rolls. The staff and service is friendly and this is quite a busy place so there is waiting time. The ramen is not that good and this restaurant is more about its Sushi. Did not expect Takara, this little ~30 person capacity neighborhood spot to be so good! And how have I not reviewed yet?! Takara is great for eat in, takeout, and lunchtime especially. Gets quite busy at lunch for good reason - great quality food, free parking, and located along a busy street. Rolls are well prepared and their fresh sheet is a collection of more rare items not usually found at other spots. Nice for solo dining as well - sit at the bar or at a smaller table as I, as well as many other patrons do! You're in for a treat - aburi sushi, quality rolls and sashimi with an emphasis on the ingredients (ie, no heavy focus on sauces / garnishes / seasonings) - quality seafood! The kamas were on the small side, the uni sashimi came with a few pieces of seaweed and with a $38 price point, there were 8-9 pieces of uni to share. The salmon oshi had mango in the middle but I couldn't really taste it but it was still delish. The aburi toro ($4/pc) was nice and fatty. Wish I got more aburi nigiri! The chicken kaarage was boneless and crispy and the spicy mayo it came with was tasty. I was very underwhelmed by the rolls here and preferred the individual nigiri pieces more. Prices are a bit on the high side as well. Overall was disappointed by my experience given the high ratings. My friend and I came for dinner on Thursday right when they opened at 5 and was the first table seated. They have limited parking in the parking lot next to the restaurant, but there's additional parking in the back as well. There's a sign that says 1 hour parking only, but not sure how well that's enforced. Takara offers a limited alcohol menu with beer and sake. For food, in addition to sushi, they have a wide range of appetizers, salads, donburi / rice bowls, noodles, bento boxes, etc. All the options you typically find at a Japanese joint. My friend and I split 3 sushi rolls and I ordered some additional nigiri pieces as well. We tried the smoked salmon roll ($8), the dragon roll ($13), and the spider roll ($13). Of the three, the smoked salmon roll was by far my least favorite. They put sooooo much cream cheese in the roll and it really detracts from it. After one piece, I took out the rest of the cream cheese in the other pieces because it was so overpowering. The spider roll was my favorite, as I didn't like the cucumber in the Dragon Roll. In addition to the very underwhelming smoked salmon roll, my one other major complaint about the meal was the soy sauce. It was incredibly salty, and I always found myself either dipping too much or too little. For the nigiri, the regular pieces run anywhere from $2 to $4 per piece, and for aburi run $3.50 to $4 per piece. I had one piece of salmon and chopped scallop, as well as aburi salmon belly and aburi toro. All 4 pieces were really good, though a bit on the pricy side imo. Late meal with Takara... I always meant to come by here but whenever I have time, it's either closed that day or I am too late. Finally managed to sneak away myself for a last minute date with Takara to see what she's all about. This place is located on the south side of Canada Way close to Boundary Road. I managed to find free street parking in front. Inside can be described as a small little cozy place with about 10 tables and a 1/2 dozen seats along the bar. The little meal I ordered for myself; 1. Small hot sake. Just the generic one 2. Soft shell crab. Personally, a little bit too much batter and the batter was a bit too elasticity to my liking. 3. Oyster motoyaki. Basic straight to the point the way I like it sometimes; fresh oysters nicely baked thoroughly on their shells, caramelized little crust on top, and on a little bed of sliced mushrooms and spinaches. Loved it!! 4. Assorted sashimi. Everything was decently fresh but considering they were smaller bite size portion, a better chef's choice would've been nicer for $35. 5. Tuna toro, ikura, uni, tamago nigiris. Everything was decently fresh and tasty. Overall, pretty much a straightforward little cozy Japanese restaurant. The food was fresh and tasted okay for what they were, but always room for improvements. The staffs and servers were friendly and informative of the food being served. It's a nice little cozy place to enjoy a bit of casual sushi if you are in the area. However, if you are looking for money value with generous portions then I suggest somewhere else such as Sushi Garden or Sushi California, etc... Came here for lunch with a friend and B. I got the Sashimi Combo and I added on top: one piece aburi saba and one piece of salmon nigiri. The sashimi combo came with dynamite roll, 2 pieces salmon sashimi, 2 pieces of tuna sashimi, 2 pieces of ebi and 2 pieces of chopped scallop. B and our friend each got the Combo Box C which came with gomae, gyoza, tempura, miso soup and 5 pieces of sashimi. The sushi were good but they were not wow. Prices are definitely more expensive than what you get at other restaurants. The aburi saba was very flavorful. It had a nice char on it. The salmon nigiri was very tasty. The salmon sashimi were fresh but it was just made with farmed salmon. I found the dynamite roll was basically one piece of prawn tempura and rest avocado rolled together. The other were tasty but nothing too special. I also found their tempura with lots of battered. They were not as crispy as I hoped it would be. I liked how they gave us a teapot to pour our own tea. This is super convenient and I really appreciate this little thing. Service was good. I appreciated how they cleaned our table frequently and checked up on us. In terms of parking, there are plenty of parking on the side street an as well as at the back of the restaurant. Overall, the food was very tasty and we will definitely be back. read more

Looks like the waffle place that used to be here is no more and has been replaced. Parking is available along Canada Way, though spots are limited. The inside is modern looking. Staff are friendly. Not sure if they are Japanese or Korean. All I know is they weren't Chinese. Atlantic roll - nice and tasty. Who doesn't like ikura or aburi salmon belly. 8 pieces total. Sushi tempura box - a bit pricey, but it does include a lot of stuff compared to the competition, such as a bowl of rice and a bowl of salad, and miso soup. Makes up for the California roll (only 6 pieces). Nigiri (salmon, tuna, ebi) were a wee bit small. Tempura were more fluffy than crunchy. Chicken tempura was surprisingly crisp. Special mention. Served on a bed of bean sprouts and teriyaki sauce, which went well with the bowl of rice. Overall I was quite happy. Wouldn't mind coming back on special occasions. read more

I drove past it many times without realizing there is a sushi place in canada way right after turning in from boundary. It is pretty much a blink and you will miss it situation. Street parking is available outside though the space outside the restaurant is usually full. But there are more spots further down. Finally got the chance to try the food here and it did not disappoint. The prices are a bit higher but it seems like most newer sushi places (not those hole in wall been around for years types) with nicer decor are in this price range. I'm ok to pay more if the quality of the food is there and it matches the surrounding too. Nothing worse than expensive mediocre food. I had the sushi tempura dinner box ($18) just to try a bit of everything. It was solid. The portion was perfect, in fact too much for me to finish everything. But if you are the constantly hungry type or have a bottomless pit of a stomach this may not be enough. The tempura while not coated with the light as air flour crispiness, they were still crispy and not oily at all. They did not get soggy even after 30 minutes when I got to them. The sushi was fresh and I liked that it was more fish than rice ratio like in Japan or Japanese run places. The surprise was the chicken teriyaki on a bed of sprouts. It was not floppy strips of meat like in most places which made me avoid anything teriyaki. This actually had crispy chicken skin on it. So yums. Now I know I can order teriyaki chicken here. I wish there were more pieces of that. The set also came with miso soup (too salty and the server offered to replace it after I made the comment when she was clearing the table. I declined), salad (the dressing could be tastier) and rice. We also shared the Atlantic Roll which had tuna and aburi salmon with ikura. So delicious! Heard good things about this place and finally was in the area with two friends. All three of us decided to try their "Sushi Tempura Box." I have to say this place definitely has the right formula of providing quality food with good portions. The star of the bento box was the Teriyaki Chicken as it was drizzled with a good amount of sauce but it did not hinder the crispiness of the whole steak. We were all pleasantly surprised the box included a side of Japanese Salad which more than filled us up. We decided to split one of their signature rolls "Atlantic Roll" for good measure and I loved how the spicy mayo's sweetness complemented well with the other ingredients tuna, salmon belly and ikura. The place has a contemporary look and the establishment's prices are not the cheapest but you are paying for quality. Our waitress and the sushi chefs have a diverse background of Japanese, Korean, Chinese who were super friendly and service was fast. There is ample free street parking along Canada Way. read more

Takara means treasure. This is a cute little sushi restaurant by Canada way (pretty much by boundary road) gets quite busy! Just so we could get a table faster we opted to sit on the bar which was a nice experience actually. I liked watching the chefs behind the counter make the sushi in front of me, it's like I get a free show! I really did learn some cool techniques and things I didn't know about how they roll the sushi (pro tip use Saran Wrap! Who would've thought because my bamboo matt is looking a bit rusty and I'll admit I had rice stick to my matt before) We got chicken karaage (deep fried and boneless) as an appetizer, it was super crispy and I love the amount of sauce they gave me! For the rolls we got salmon oshi, the pressed box sushi that comes in 6 pieces. Quite big and boxy, it did hold its shape and the fish tasted very good. I like that they add extra crispy and crunchy bits at the top. We got dynamite roll and an avocado salmon roll. This area needs more of these Japanese restaurants - simple, clean, and inviting. This place is relatively new (just under a month) and I'm loving it so far. The menu is quite extensive with a little bit of everything including robata. Sushi and sashimi were very fresh. I quite enjoyed the tempura and chicken katsu. The shredded cabbage that came with the chicken katsu was very refreshing as well. I also ordered one piece of uni nigiri and that was fresh and creamy. (I'm normally not a fan of uni) Very reasonably priced establishment with friendly service. Amazing sushi restaurant. It is a little more expensive, but worth it if you can appreciate how fresh the fish here is compared to most restaurants in the lower mainland. I ordered the "sushi combo" under assorted sushi section which comes with a roll and 6 pieces of nigiri ( choices selection ). I had the BC roll and for the nigiri, it came with salmon, tuna, hokkigai (surf clam), squid and tamago nigiri ( was supposed to be shrimp, but im allergic). So they were all well sized and the way you can tell how fresh it is by the way you touch it or chew into it and the fish slightly bounces back at you. It is a distinctive difference from a lot of other sashimi/sushi restaurants. Even the tamago nigiri I had, I was surprised at how well made it was as the egg piece was cooked just enough so that the exterior was a soft solid portion giving it shape, but the exterior was a little more runny which gives it a great texture. The salmon belly was also delicious. The salmon oshi was just okay. I found it to be too heavy and a little bit too oily. The agedashi tofu was crisp. The deluxe sashimi was definitely worth it. For 8 kinds and 24 pieces at $36, it was great value and good quality. The tai and the octopus were both not too chewy and the squid wasn't either. Had high expectations for this place with such a high rating. (Then again...could just be family and friends.) Came all the way from Coquitlam. Did all the due diligence: checked their website, and Yelp for hours and Covid procedures what not. Was there at the open. 11:30am. The door was open and the place was fully lit. A man greeted me as soon as I stepped in. "Sorry we are closed today". -the first thing the man said. "Family emergency, family emergency". While the place is fully lit and the kitchen staff cooking up a storm. I said "oh. What kind?" Instead of replying, he again said "family emergency". Then a lady appeared from behind the kitchen counter. She said "what would you like to order?" The man said, "no no no. We have family emergency." That was that, I stepped out. The problem with these "artistic" sushi joints is that they are "artistic" and moody. Great if you catch them in their "inspirational moment", damned if you catch them in a "special family PARTY emergency." Arbitrary and unprofessional! Can't recommend this kind of business. I consider all other "rave" reviews to be fake. I do however find a review by a Sam S below very curiously familiar. This Chinese run sushi joint is most definitely a miss. First time here and I haven't gotten around to trying their sashimi or nigiri, but the Bento box B was good! The restaurant was extremely clean and the employees were friendly. The beef teriyaki was tasty, but it's pretty standard. The sesame salad dressing was creamy but the salad was just an iceberg lettuce salad. The Dynamite roll had a good proportion of filling to rice, and the tempura was all crispy and tasty. The rolls were all very fresh and in particular I was a big fan of the Atlantic Roll. The ikura mixed with the salmon belly had a melt in your mouth flavor and I can't wait to have more!
