Incredibly fresh and delicious sushi. We came here for my dad's birthday and what a treat it was! It wasn't too busy on the Wednesday night in this brightly lit and spacious restaurant. I can't wait to come back when I have another special occasion.

Been here several times and we've always enjoyed the food. The sashimi tastes really fresh and is presented quite elegantly. Their saba is the best I've had in the lower mainland and a must try in my opinion. It's not too fishy and has a very soft texture. Their prices are slightly better than places like Miku for comparable dishes. Service is very attentive and welcoming. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

What a great find! Tucked back in of the street, what gem. The food was amazing, the freshness, presentation, and taste were all off the charts. Great value for the price too. Highly recommend Kun's!

Always a great experience when I come here. Food is great quality and portion size is just right. The way the food is presented is really nice too :) my fav is their soba peperoncino

Small quiet restaurant tucked in a narrow alley is Kun's Omakase Bar. Honestly, I've never heard of this restaurant before until I saw IG posts. This place is 3 years young and am foreseeing it'll be a staple in Steveston as it is a very good restaurant. We arrived at 12:00 on a Sunday and they took us in even without reservations. The server took time to suggest food for us. Needless to say, food was very very fresh and delicious. It definitely aroused my 5 senses (gokan). Every dish was light and delicate in taste and yet bursting with umami. A must visit!

This is a great little find in Steveston. Normally I would make trek there for Pajo's but Kun's is so much better. There is plenty of free 3 hr street parking but on warm summer days, this can be a challenging. I opted for the Zen lunch special which included 5 pieces of sashimi, oshi, 3 pieces of nigiri and wakame at $28. The presentation and taste of all the dishes was excellent with the exception of the wakame...would have much preferred gomae. The service was great and I really liked the space. It was a very positive food experience and happy to recommend Kun's if in Steveston and looking for sushi.

We almost missed this place entirely, as it is tucked away at the back of a small alley just off Moncton street, easy to overlook. If I hadn't seen its overhead festoon lights after sunset the night before while walking down the street, I'd never have known of its existence. The interior décor is Spartan, understated, but this simplicity belies the wonderful things awaiting you. As an omakase bar, there are certain inalienable truths that will be evident the moment your first plate is served to you: 1) whatever you order will be delicious 2) it will be of the highest quality, hand-crafted by the master chef, in singular or small quantities 3) it will be expensive And really, #3 is the only mark against this place. Don't expect a meal for two to run you less than $100 CA, if you intend to leave full and satisfied. That said, the service, as well as the food, are exquisite. You're not likely to find anything comparable anywhere else in Steveston, despite their being several other sushi restaurants within a couple of blocks. I ordered the wagyu oshi, furthering my trend of ordering anything with the work "wagyu" in it, as well as a miso soup. My wife ordered two pieces of nigiri (magoro and unagi), some edamame, and a miso soup as well. It was a light affair (we weren't particularly hungry, but didn't want to miss an opportunity to dine here), with a pot of tea and a shot of Suntori Toki to wash it all down. The bill still came to over $70. Worth it, though: the wagyu oshi was phenomenal: lightly seared with a blowtorch atop pressed, lightly-vinegared sushi rice, I could eat this all day...and I probably would, if it wasn't $29 for a plate of five! (That $70 bill was mostly my fault, it seems!) My wife was in similar ecstasy over her nigiri, and although I encouraged her to order more, she was too concerned over the price of each individual piece to do so. Never once did we want for anything, as the servers and service were impeccable, a reflection of the Japanese practice of "kaizen": continual improvement through repetition. Masters of their art, all of them, from server to sushi master. I know I have mentioned the price multiple times, and that's not generally something I factor in when rating a place, and neither should you, because Kun's is truly a spectacular establishment that, as far as I'm concerned, does everything right. Not only right, but righteous: they uphold and exemplify a standard of excellence that all others should seek to emulate. A culinary culture like that would be worth paying any price. Japan has it; why can't we? Alas, until we achieve our own restaurant culture nirvana, at least we have places like Kun's as the example to which all should aspire.

Kun is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Vancouver. It is quiet with a calming vibe. The food is amazing. The sushi and sashimi are always very fresh. I highly recommend Kun, but at the same time, I don't want a lot of people to know of it to make it difficult to secure a seat!

First time trying Kun's Omakase Bar and I was very impressed. Ordered the whiskey highball and was pleasantly surprised by how well made it was. It is slightly sweetened with a good amount of lemon flavor so not a traditional whiskey highball with only whiskey and soda water but it is more of my preference this way. Food wise we got the salmon and wagyu oshi. The salmon oshi is life changing and a must order here in my opinion the wagyu oshi was just alright. The chirashi aburi tart was tasty and worth a try but I prefer nigiri or hand rolls. Aburi nigiri platter was delicious. The mackerel and scallop were my favorites. The scallop was so good I had to order another one with an ikura nigiri. Service was good the waitresses were very friendly and attentive. The food was brought out on time and with a good pace between the dishes. Inside the restaurant was very clean and tidy. The open atmosphere provided a good view of behind the sushi bar for viewing the chefs preparing each dish. Attached in my review is the menu. I think that the dishes are priced very reasonably for the quality of food. Overall I would highly recommend.

As a former employee of another Japanese restaurant that you could say is the OG of the oshi concept - I came with high expectations and I was not disappointed at all. Kun's Omakase delivers an intimate experience with excellent quality that smaller scale restaurants can often achieve. For starters, the restaurant is tucked in a cozy spot in Steveston Village and is hard to spot without previous knowledge. Albeit the low key spot, they are booked up very often so be sure to lock in a reservation during a time like this! (Seating is also limited to my current knowledge - max 4 people a table) In addition, they have limited quantities of menu items to maintain freshness so do call to check in if they're OOS on any menu items!! Soba Peperoncino - I love their take on this, rather than a stir fry noodle it's more like a light sweet/sour soba salad with greens, tomatoes topped with generous amounts of assorted seafood. I like when I can visibly see the protein on my dish. The lightness of the dressing also makes this dish highly palatable. Aburi Nigiri Platter/ Otoro Nigiri/Sashimi - Quality of fish is top notch. I wouldn't go as far as comparing it to my time in Japan (some things such as air delivery are beyond a restaurant's control ) but I can taste the distinctive flavours and levels of fattiness of each nigiri I had. The otoro was glorious - an absolute melt in your mouth experience. I normally only enjoy salmon but their otoro was delicious and didn't have an overbearing fishy taste. Likewise - the sashimi offered a similar experience. The maguro red tuna was gorgeously marbled and hotate scallop was smooth and fresh. The platter also featured a clam of some sort, it was very crunchy...interesting to say the least. Salmon Oshi/Wagyu Oshi - I've had my fair share of oshi everywhere and I think this is probably closest to what I've had at said restaurant I used to work at. The only difference I could really pinpoint is the texture and umami taste in the rice. This could be due to the way the rice is prepared. I really liked the wagyu oshi - it's a melt in your mouth experience and my only wish is that there would be a bit more wagyu to pair with the rice. Overall, if you're a sushi/fish connoisseur and pursue quality over quantity (this place is not a cheap filling bite) - then I highly recommend Kun's Omakase!

Been wanting to try this place out for awhile. In the heart of Steveston, it's a small hidden gem that is probably one of the best Japanese restaurants in Richmond. And you know me, if you have read my previous reviews, you know I love my Japanese food. Due to COVID, they only take reservations with a time limit so make sure you plan ahead as they book up quickly. As Bonnie Henry just announced no dining in as of tomorrow, we wanted to make sure we took full advantage. We decided to go with their assorted sashimi, aburi chirashi tart, salmon oshi, sunset roll and some uni nigiri. Everything was amazing including the ambiance and staff. As it was potentially our last date night until further notice, we took some photos of the mural of koi fish which were beautifully designed. If you want a pleasant dining experience for a date night or family, I would definitely recommend this place. But for now, enjoy their take out menu :)

Kun's Omakase was recommended by a friend. OMG. The food here was amazing. I knew the place is pretty small so we came here first thing when they just opened. We arrived here on a Sunday at noon. We were a table of three. I got the Zen sushi special. It was super delicious. It came with 5 pieces of sashimi, Oshi sushi, 3 pieces Nigiri, Gomae and Miso soup. The ingredients were fresh and you can really taste the difference. Everything cooked / prepared perfectly. We were also served tea. The tea was flavorful. Service was great here. I definitely have to come back and try out other things on their menu. It is definitely one of my favorite sushi restaurants so far. Especially with them operating in Richmond, competition is less stiff compared to Vancouver. I am sure they will do very well. They are a bit hidden. The restaurant front is not very visible. I walked by the restaurant when looking for it. Anyways, this is a must try sushi place. There are some free parking in Steveston. They do not have free parking for customer. We parked about 3 blocks away from the restaurant so it wasn't that bad. Highly recommend this place. Yes we will be back.

We sat in a separate section of the restaurant with 3 tables at the front. We ordered chicken wings, assorted tempura, miso black cod and an order of beef teriyaki that was not on the menu. The servings are very small for the prices charged. We found that the chicken wings (only 4 small wings) $9.50 were a bit dry. The tempura batter was not as crisp or crunchy as we've had. The miso black cod was a very small portion - maybe 4 oz. for $18.00. We did not feel that there was value for the money. The food was average and the prices were too high for the quality and amount of food received. We did not enjoy the anime that was playing and we were glad that we were not sitting in the main dining room. Overall, we feel that there are better options for a Japanese meal.

I got a whole four-top to myself. I had quite the appetite so I decided to order the Bite of Everything dinner set which was very aptly named. It had chicken karaage, gyoza, miso soup, ebi sunomono, a few pieces of a Cali roll, 6 pieces of nigiri (salmon, tuna, ebi, tai, scallop, unagi), a few cubes of tuna "carpaccio" and an orange slice. Paired it with 5oz of some hot sake. Before getting into the food, I'll say I had a pleasant dinner and it's at par with restaurants at its relative price point. $42 before tip to be tipsy and full is a deal. Similar quality to Ganbei nearby which I've frequented several times. This is a quantity vs quality place. The best thing on the tray was the chicken karaage. And at a very close second was the ebi sunomono. Karaage was battered well, very juicy. Sunomono was a refreshing, tangy, and sweet accompaniment. The actual sushi is where it fell off. Each piece was amateurishly put together; some nigiri had hard rice, fish tasted flat, rice wasn't seasoned. It passes for a mid-range sushi restaurant, but it won't blow you away. Respectable 3/5
