I've been to this place many times as I live in the area. This is a family run Japanese style meal box restaurant with a cozy and warm ambiance. The menu contains a variety of rice combo dishes that you can select (pork, chicken, beef, fois gras, curry) and a tempura noodle set as well. Occasionally, they also have specials as well. My boyfriend and I ordered the beef set and the tempura noodle set with pork. I love how there are a variety of side dishes that come with the set. This is great for those who like variety and want to have a complete meal with all the food groups. My favourite is definitely the pickled daikon/carrot and the cabbage salad! The food is not too salty and the broth was perfectly seasoned for my palate. My boyfriend also ordered an espresso romano which I had never tried before. The foam on top was surprisingly refreshing with a tart aftertaste of lime. The prices were also very fair with most sets averaging around $19-20 before tax. I keep going back because they are doing things right. Food is plentiful with thoughtful touches to bring the meal to another level. Served bento box style the rice "bowls" are exceptional. I love the braised pork belly, steamed daikon with light soy, tofu with chili's and a mild miso soup. Honorable mention is the quality rice. Have yet to try the foie gras bowl but I will! All of the course meals came with a bowl of miso soup, some veggies as side dishes, and the main dish (which was tofu, unagi, or beef) with rice. All of them had good quality but they were different from real authentic and sophisticated Japanese ones. This is a family oriented restaurant so be expected that parents with little kids or older children would come here for meals. If you're wanting to eat in, you'll have to let the staff know so they can see if there is a table; however, you will have to order first. The salmon meal came with huge portions and great for those who just want a basic/clean meal. Second time around, I had to get the udon soup. The portion of udon was actually much larger than I thought. Udon was chewy and bouncy with a generous portion of chicken. It also comes with 2 prawn tempuras and a potato croquette. Tempura had a light and crispy outer shell, and I personally LOVED the croquette. I'm personally not a big fan of croquettes but the taste of this one was great. It was busy but we were able to snag a table right away. Order at the counter first, then pay when you're done eating. Menu has 8 staples along with chicken karaage and Japanese beef curry. All their meals come with miso soup, agedashi tofu, pickled daikon/carrot, cabbage salad and a seasonal vegetable. They also give out stamp cards; 10 stamps gets you a free meal. - Pork course meal ($14.45) - all the side dishes were excellent. Really enjoyed the agedashi tofu and the oden style daikon. Pork was tender and reminded us a chashu, minus the sweet sauce. - Foie gras rice bowl ($22.45) - chicken was tender and juicy. Goodness gracious!!! If all I ever had at Nobi Nobi was the Foie gras, I'd be quite happy! I wasn't sure what to expect with this being a smaller size restaurant. Is that too much too ask for!? LOL. To be honest I would never have known about NN without Yelp. It's one of those spots that if you blink once - you've missed it. The tea was surprisingly refreshing & I quite liked it. Usually when you're given free tea at restaurants, it's so crappie. I'm a huge fan of duck (or was it goose?) & liver, so I was delightfully blown away by the taste of my Foie gras. It came with the most flakiest butter type chicken I've had in a long time. The side ingredients were excellent. Gosh what a presentation! And all (see my pix) this for $23! That's like $11 US ... I think!? LOL. Once I had eaten I could feel the protein running through my blood stream. There was a small side of Tofu with this order but I passed on it as I was utterly stuffed. I'm definitely looking forward to going back to try other menu items. Please note NN is currently closed on Tuesdays. Hot Tip Alert - this strip mall, Ironwood is known for trapping cars making it extremely difficult to escape during rush hour which seems to begin at 230pm here on week days. Came here after a long day of blueberry picking in the summer with my mom. We got the chicken and unagi course meals. They came with five side dishes, all of which were delicious!! My favourite being the celery/tofu dish. I usually don't like celery but it was cooked perfectly for my soft mouth in this dish. The main event was also really good for what it cost! Both the chicken and unagi were flavourful and a good amount of rice was given. We took some leftovers home as it was really filling! My only complaint is that there isn't enough unagi for the amount of rice given. I would've liked to pay a little more to get more unagi. The egg yolk was not very runny but still good as it was not over cooked and dry. The bowl was deep so it was quite a filling meal. It came with miso soup, salad, tofu (could be crispier around the edges), pickled radish and steamed squash. If you are tired of the numerous sushi places serving rolls and teriyaki protein for bento, come here for some good basic Japanese food. Good food. Authentic teriyaki is made with only three ingredients, it's not like the cornstarch filled American style we get in bottles here. As such, you have to pan baste the chicken in the teriyaki for at least 2-3 minutes before serving, cut, put on rice and baste the balance on the chicken before serving. It takes some practice. Unagi set ($15.95) is exactly what you'd expect with decently cut pieces on top of a bed of soft fluffy rice. I'm a big foie gras fan and I would say the restaurant is fair with the amount of foie gras offered. I would say 30% was foie gras and 70% chicken.... pretty fair given that foie gras is pretty expensive. Overall, Nobi Nobi dishes out an entire tray of food!
