This place was so effing we good we ended up ordering more to try more dishes on their menu. You definitely need to try their sushi rolls. I was so impressed with this place.

    Fuji Gozen Set
    Quyen P.

I had the Fuji Gozen shared between three of my friends and I, and since we weren't super hungry, it ended up being the perfect amount of food thanks to our servers recommendation. Overall, everything was well-executed and enjoyable, with a nice variety across the set. The only thing that didn't quite work for us was the arugula in the truffle wagyu udon, it felt a little out of place. I usually enjoy arugula, but the bitterness didn't quite pair well with the creamy udon base, so that combination came off a bit off-putting. Aside from that one element, everything else in the meal was really solid and thoughtfully prepared.

Went back for round two and the food was so good. Much better than I remember from the first trip. The fluffy omelette is so light and flavourful, I would go back just for that. The corn karaage were seasoned to perfection. Great service, and the retro interior has a lot going for it.

muscat grape and pistachio fruit tart

Came back to New Fuji last Thursday with a girlfriend and by chance, stumbled upon their fruit tart festival. We were so excited to try one of the delicious and pretty looking fruit tarts. We both chose the muscat and pistachio fruit tart. The tart has a delicious creamy filling and some crunchy bits on top (might be kataifi - like the viral Dubai chocolate kind haha). The Muscat grapes had a subtle sweetness with perfect jelly-like texture. Sadly, it was the second last day for the festival so I'm not sure when I will have the opportunity for another taste of these delicious desserts. We also ordered a couple of menu items for dinner. The charred caesar was interesting and had a smoky flavour profile, but was small in portion size. Salmon battera was a classic, but we both agreed the wagyu one was much better. The spicy miso egg udon was really tasty, but the saucy soup was quite salty and we wished there was a bit more udon. Nonetheless, I was scarfing down the soup by itself as it was so delicious. As always, service was seamless and wonderful. New Fuji...always a good time!

    Truffle Corn Karaage (9$)

I would like to preface this by saying that Suika was one of my favourite restaurants of all time, and I found it to be the most affordable of the Kingyo group. New Fuji is quite good, but it is expensive. The vibes were great, the servers kind, but I left dinner peckish still. We had: -Truffle Corn Karaage (9$): Very tasty, but not quite as tasty as it was at Suika. The Suika Corn Fritters were so tasty, fried, and didn't have the corn cob (all kernels), whereas this does not have batter/crunch, but the seasoning is tasty. -Snow Crab And Mentaiko Peperoncino Yakiudon (24$): delicious but I found the portion small (esp of the crab). Usually I am not an Udon girl, but the slight spice cut through the cream. Umami, salty, creamy, delicious. -Shellfish Bara Chirashi (28$): Seafood tasted fresh, rice perfectly seasoned. However, still found it to be missing a bit of flavour. -Wagyu Sirloin Heart (21$): was the only disappointing thing. Found it to be slightly overcooked, a tiny portion, and the meat was sinewy. Overall, flavours and quality of most things were excellent, but found the portion sizes and prices to be disappointing. I understand that rent must be expensive, but alas this spot has not replaced the hole that Suika left in my heart

My friend took me to her favourite spot for lunch - New Fuji. I had never been before but I think it's my new fav spot now! Their space is pretty big, you can easily get a large group of people here. They also have a patio that was closed when we went but they open it up during the summer which I would 100% come back for! Our server was SOOO sweet and everyone there was very warm. They also had coat check when you come in which was amazing because it was a very rainy day in Vancouver. We both got their set lunch menu - the set menu came with a medium sized udon, sushi, salad, chicken karage, and corn karage. I got their - Aka set lunch menu which had - wagyu sukiyaki udon (it was refreshing and comforting at the same time!), wagyu yukhoe battera (pressed sushi with wagyu tartar), wagyu roast beef salad (very fresh). Everything was so good! It was $35 for the set menu which I think was the perfect amount for the amount of food. They also have so many vegetarian options, I can't wait to go back here!

This place was definitely on the higher end; everything was great but quite small (except the mackerel). Example: Wagyu chuck fillet-$29 but had 5 thinly sliced pieces. As well, idk about the seating but we were a party of 5 sitting at the high tables with other parties, only separated by a low divider. There wasn't space to put bags or jackets either so it just felt cramped and uncomfortable. Anyway, with the size some dishes were a bit sad, and some (eg. edamame) were too salty. If the portions were more reasonable I would maybe come back

4.5/5- Definitely recommend coming here Prob one of the best meals i had on my vancouver trip. And i went to fat mao/ mackenzie room, other touristy places etc Their ao set menu was the best the salmon sushi is the main highlight and id recommend getting that. The udon with the set is very milky and good but I'd recommend the chilli rose carbonara yakiudon instead. Its not very spicy more creamy The salad tasted a bit too fishy for our liking and the corn karaage was so flavorful and good. Id say the corn karaage and salmon sushi were the standouts and ones id get individually. The rest were ok and id be interested in trying the other udons as well

I've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got the chance. The restaurant atmosphere is fun, with a retro-theming and open bbq that you can watch. It gets a bit smokey however, so if that bothers you, a heads up. Between 2 ppl we shared 4 dishes. The beef wrapped green onions, the negitoro pressed roll, the rośe carbonara, and strawberry daifuku for dessert. I'd say my least favorite item was the beef wrapped green onion. While the taste was good, the green onions were raw in the middle and hard to chew through. The carbonara was tasty but was a bit bland. The negitoro was good and generous portion, but once again didn't blow my mind. If anything, the dessert might've been my favorite item, as it's hard to find daifuku in Vancouver. Overall, I did find the restaurant cool and their food isn't "bad". But I was a bit let down by the lack of depth in flavor considering the price of the meal. I'd maybe come back to try their lunch sets, as they seem like a better deal.

Decor inspired by 80's Japan and Andy Warhol this place is fantastic from a food curation service and pairing view. The foods sets had one for carnivores two for omnivores and one for vegetarians. Desserts were cheap, subtly sweet and artistic. Everything was done thoughtfully Like being in Japan

Came back again to enjoy good service and even better food. We were a party of 5 and had to call to make a reservation. The lady made everything possible to get us in. As usual, food is so delicious.

Came here for my birthday and really enjoyed the whole experience! Inside is very aesthetic. Loved all the decor. We got late reservations at 9:30 (we are traveling on vacation so late dinner was ok). Service was great and attentive. It was pretty much last call right after we ordered but the servers were very sweet and made sure we got to try everything we wanted to order. Portion sizes of the entrees were very large and filling! We had: 1. Truffle corn karaage- must get. Great flavor and had me wanting more 2. Bluefin negitoro- had a nice crunch! 3. peach mojito- we got a pitcher, has their unique cola in it. Very delicious and could barely taste any alcohol 4. Snow crab, scallop and crab miso cream udon- super creamy 5. Mozza-mentai carbonara yaki-udon- more of Italian style carbonara/ just with udon and salmon roe 6. spicy wagyu miso egg udon- reminded me of tofu, beef soup (except without the tofu) 7. Mango parfait- this was ok. A little too much frosting for my liking but mangoes on top were very fresh The standouts were the Truffle corn karaage, Bluefin negitoro, and Snow crab, scallop and crab miso cream udon. Would come back one day to eat this again!

    NEWFUJI LUNCH GOZEN Fuji set
    Hop N.

Food 3.5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 First time here and I'd recommend making a reservation because we didn't know, and my group had to wait about 45 minutes for a table for 4 which we didn't mind. Even though we only had an hour to dine before the next reserved group came in, it was fine since we had already picked out what we wanted while waiting. The interior is absolutely charming. As someone who loves vintage woody inspired decor, I was obsessed. The use of a record player as a table divider? Soooo clever! FOOD: UNI CREAM UDON- comes in biggg bowl like shockingly big!! The broth is rich, creamy, and the uni flavor really comes through. If you're a fan of uni this is for you. Only thing I didn't love was the bitter greens pretty sure it was arugula adding that was unnecessary and kinda threw the dish off and I say this as someone who loves veggies!!!! ABALONE CREAM BUTTER YAKIUDON - my friend's dish. I tried it and meh... wasn't bad, once it cooled down the texture and flavor started to fade so definitely a dish you want to eat while it's still warm. NEWFUJI LUNCH GOZEN - We got both the FUJI and AO sets. The truffle a5 wagyu cream udon from the Fuji set was our favorite! Tender beef and super savory. The udon in the Ao set tasted similar to the uni cream udon just without the uni. We preferred the aburi salmon battera over the bluefin negitoro battera, which lacked balance there was too much rice, not enough negitoro. DRINKS: okinawan craft cola - honestly so good this was an unexpected fave. peach passion mojito green grape lemon sour - green grape flavor wasnt really there, stronger on the alcohol side. ginger mojito DESSERT: HOKKAIDO MILK MOLTEN CHEESECAKE- Apparently we were the 3rd group to try their new dessert it was cheesecake topped with rum raisin ice cream. The rum was stronggggg but it actually worked. The ice cream paired with the cheesecake was good!! Overall staff was friendly, vibes were immaculate, and everything looked amazing like the plating, the interiors, even the drinks were super aesthetic. But in terms of taste, it didn't quite meet my expectations given the price point. Nothing was bad !!! but I was hoping to be a little more wowed. I'd still come back to try more and take my time but with a reservation next time loll! Side note- Thanks for letting me keep the bamboo straw!! I appreciate you!!!

Maybe it's an American thing to linger and enjoy a dining experience. To stay longer than needed to…read moresoak up the ambiance and give a good moment some extra time for memories. But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.

At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. People who haven't been to an izakaya may think it's loud and noisy, but the point of izakayas is they're supposed to be vibrant, high energy, and filled with cheerful chatter. Think of a tapas-style pub/bar for people to unwind and gather to chat after a long day at work. I loved the atmosphere, as it's casual, entertaining, and lively. The food was great and I couldn't think of a dish I didn't like. The sashimi were so fresh and high quality. Of course they use freshly grated wasabi too. Me, I know nothing about Izakaya or what is or isn't authentic Japanese cuisine, so this review is coming from someone with zero knowledge or expectation of any specific foods or experiences. Despite it being a weeknight, the place was packed. It was good that we had a reservation. There was a couple in line before me and they were walk-ins, and there were no available seats for them. I noted how small this place was, and crowded, with the tables close together and a long bar with a counter and barstools there (also close together). Our reserved table was right by the front door - literally, - so every time the door opened, we got a gust of cold air (and it was a cold February night when we were there). I kept my coat on. Truth be known, I was not very comfortable. Also, it was loud. Very loud. I like how the staff shout Japanese greetings to diners whenever they enter but between the frequent shouts and the sheer volume of chatter from all the diners, all sitting close together in close proximity, it was kinda hard to hear what my friends were saying during our dinner. That said, the environment was super vibrant and, again, my friends said this was very typical of an Izakaya in Japan. Food-wise, I have no idea what my friends ordered. The menu was primarily available by way of a QR code and I had no idea what the dishes were, so I deferred to my friends' knowledge. But I can attest that all the dishes were DELICIOUS. We had some sort of Japanese street food "pancakes" (they were wonderful). We had some sort of stirfry beef with noodles (amazing). We had two types of sashimi (omg both were so fresh and so so good!). We had a few other dishes that I can't recall, but I remember I loved them. So.... the food here was GREAT. Service was also attentive which I hadn't expected, being as busy as the restaurant was. I really liked this place but I'll probably go back in the summertime when the weather is nicer as I was cold there, and I'd dine at an off-time, when the volume wasn't so loud. (I'm too old for the loudness!).

We picked up the 16-piece Premium Cut Rolls (toro, yellowtail, scallop, and truffle lobster), and the quality really showed in the taste. Everything was clean, fresh, and well-balanced -- no heavy sauces, no distractions, just really good fish. The toro was rich and smooth, the scallop was buttery, and the truffle lobster added a nice depth without overpowering the roll. Pickup was quick and seamless, and the food was packaged well for eating on the go before a flight. Portions are standard, but the flavor and quality are absolutely the highlight here. If you care more about how sushi tastes than flashy extras, Hello Nori is a great choice. Would happily come back next time.

Every guest is seated around the bar where they can watch the rolls being made fresh. Upon being seated you place your order by marking a piece of paper. We started off with cocktails: kaiju en neguroni and peach pafekuto and they were both refreshing. We each ordered a few rolls and my fave is the unagi hand roll. The unagi was flame-torched right in front of me. Prices are on the expensive side with small portions, but everything tasted fresh.

Even on a Thursday night, the restaurant was nearly full, which speaks to its popularity. I ordered the Tako Sunomono and the Premium Chirashi Don. Tako Sunomono: The octopus was perfectly tender and the vinegar dressing was refreshing--exactly what I needed to wash away the fatigue of the day. Premium Chirashi Don: The presentation was stunning and immediately worked up my appetite. Every piece of seafood was incredibly fresh and of high quality. You can really taste the difference here. If you're looking for healthy, fresh, and beautifully presented Japanese cuisine, Shizenya is a must-visit. Highly recommended!
