There's also a decent amount of indoor seating and an outdoor patio section in front of the store. Not my first time trying Nemesis since I've been to Vancouver before, but definitely a reminder of why they are listed as one of the World's 100 Best Coffee Shops. Came to Nemesis on a Saturday morning and there was a long line out the door. I got the almond double bake and a pourover and we ate outside on the picnic bench tables. The coffee was excellent as was the croissant. Surprisingly I would say 90% of people were ordering for here rather than to go, which probably led to the line buildup. Quite frankly, I'm not sure what all the hype is about. It's a small little shop with not a lot of selection. Nothing popped out at me as looking good or sounding good. I just ended up randomly picking something out of the case. I don't know how to say this other than everything in the case looks burnt. It's very dark brown and mine wasn't super moist. I didn't think the coffee was that good either. I didn't even finish it. The seating is not comfortable, but I guess that's to get you in and out fast. Recently been to nemesis cafe in gastown as I always crave croissants. Ambience is good and it's a very busy cafe so may be very popular. I wanted to try chocolate croissants but those were out of stock . I took pistachio mango croissant - mango was more of jelly like texture. It was good in taste. Ube matcha was my first try ever and initially I found it peculiar and bitter in taste but later I started liking it. Staff is nice and very accommodating. I stopped by Nemesis Coffee after seeing them reviewed on TikTok. A line was formed right up to the door when I stepped in and they had a nice crowd already enjoying vittles. The gentleman taking my order was friendly and recommended The Queen croissant since I was visiting. It was incredibly flaky, but honestly, I wish I'd ordered something else. It just felt a little too basic. I wanted something that would have excited my tastebuds more. I also tried the viral Mortadella Supreme - a croissant with mortadella, mustard aioli, egg, and Swiss cheese. The sandwich was good, but it wasn't very hot when it arrived, and I expected a bit more from all the buzz. One thing I did notice was the timing. My croissant came out almost immediately after I found a seat, the sandwich took a while, and my latte didn't arrive until I'd already eaten a few bites. The latte ended up being the only thing served hot. That said, I enjoyed the overall experience. The staff was welcoming, they help guests find seating when it's busy, and I can see why it's a popular spot. My first picks just didn't quite wow me, but I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu if I'm ever in Vancouver again. read more

Didn't expect this place to be so packed. Lovely coffee/brunch vibes. The wait was long but the staff has a good system going. There were a lot of beautifully made pastries on display. We were hoping they were more flaky but that wasn't the case. The flavors were good though. A lot to choose from! The one we had was their matcha mango yuzu cruffin. Paid parking lot underground garage with elevator access to front entrance of Nemesis cafe. Although it's outside a college, prices are not student friendly. Not a place to sit a work for hours. Ok for just 30-45 minutes. Be ready to pay $$$. Music on louder side. The food at first glance looks and sounds like every other upscale coffee place with expensive croissants and loafs, BUT, when you order off their menu you get a very nice palatable surprise!!! The chef has designed really gourmet modern twists using familiar ingredients like Asian style pork belly eggs Benedict or asparagus danish with yummy mozzarella cheese grated on top. Very unexpected and very tasty in a premium experience way. Like Michelin star level. The reason I have four instead of five stars was because of my ordering experience. I had stood at the counter waiting to order. Awkwardly waiting for the staff to finish chit chatting. And then giving me a little look like I'm interrupting their conversation. The person who ended up serving me was pleasant but my first impression was made. The architecture was very aesthetically unique compared to anything else that I have experienced. Went on a Saturday around 2:30pm and they had already run out of a lot of pastries so we just got drinks then came back the next day to try the food. There's a pretty good amount of seating here if you want to sit and chill for a bit but it was pretty busy when I was there. Service was also great and everyone was really nice Flat white: 4/5 this was my first time trying a flat white in general and it was too bitter for me but I liked it a lot after adding almost a whole sugar packet. I ended up trying this both hot and cold bc I ordered the wrong one on accident and liked the hot one more Pull apart bagel: 4/5 the flavor on this was good but I wish there was more cream cheese on the inside. We were staying in downtown for a family trip so stopped by here for coffee and breakfast. It's a cute cafe, clean and was quite busy for a weekday morning at 10a. However, our drinks and food came pretty quickly and everything was delicious! For drinks I ordered my usual cortado with oat milk and hubby tried their seasonal special (triple blue with blueberry, blue cheese, blue matcha and hojicha). My cortado was excellent and I could taste the quality of the coffee whereas the triple blue was very unique and tasty without being too sweet. The flavors of the triple blue blended surprisingly well together! As for the food we ordered the Morty supreme and bodega sando with bacon. Though I liked both the Morty supreme was my fav out of the 2 (the croissant bun put it over the edge with its flaky crispiness). Definitely worth a visit! read more

Got their rice pudding cruffin and an iced hojicha. The hojicha was great and quite strong. The cruffin was very flaky. Got a taste of the orange chocolate croissant as well and likewise very flaky. When you think of a perfect cup of coffee with the most delicious pastry, you're definitely thinking of your experience at Nemesis. I've traveled here twice. The first time was so good, that on my 4 hour layover in Vancouver the second time, I made it a point to come here. They make a damn good flat white. And it was consistent both times. I brought beans home that are wonderfully roasted (I'm out so I should take a 3rd trip to Van just to pick up more). And their pastries. OUT. OF. THIS. WORLD. I kid you not. I was so blown away by the quality and flavor in each pastry. I thought it was a joke. I thought what I ordered was twice the price of what I paid and they gave me a discount. I've been to French bakeries that can't put this kind of quality in their goods. I had a blueberry pastry the first time I went (fire), and then a custard banana with lilikoi (passion fruit). Talk about sending me into another world. Look at my photos, JUST LOOK HOW PERFECT THEY ARE! They were so dense and delicious. I almost moved here for these alone. Had a chance to enjoy Nemesis Coffee while in town and let's say that all-in-all it's a very cute spot but it just didn't feel welcoming whatsoever. They have a few tables to enjoy your delicious pastries and bevvies outside and if you desire to sit inside you'll first wait in line, order, and then be ushered to a table. Once it was my turn to order it felt a bit awkward after I had shared it was my first time there. I ended up just settling for a double espresso and a blueberry pastry. The pastry itself was absolutely delicious and had me in awe so I knew the pistachio croissant for my fiance was going to be divine (and it traveled well). I waited for quite some time and it felt like I was simply forgotten. I tried to ask for the wifi password and that felt like I was asking for something beyond their means and my pastry and drink didn't come out till after I inquired about my order after waiting almost twenty minutes. The line at Nemesis stretched out the door on a cold, rainy Saturday morning, but thankfully it moved quickly. My friend and I shared an avocado toast and a pistachio swirl croissant, along with an Americano and a latte. We were seated at a clean table already set with utensils and water, which was a nice touch. Our food arrived shortly after, the pistachio swirl croissant was perfectly crisp and fresh, with a light pistachio flavor. The avocado toast was one of the most beautiful and delicious we've ever had, topped with a butternut squash mousse and broccolini. Everything tasted so fresh and thoughtfully prepared. I was looking for a coffee shop to do work before my flight and saw everyone on TikTok raving about this place. Unfortunately, they don't have wifi. I ordered a hojicha latte and the mortadella sandwich. Both tasted good, I liked the aoli they put on the sandwich. The bread they used was a flakey croissant. The hojicha was sweetened but it wasn't too sweet which was my favorite. Service wise you order at the front and they direct you where to sit. This is a full service cafe so they bring you the food and pick up after you so tip upfront. All in all it was a cute place for lunch. I don't know if I would come back because there's a lot of other coffee shops to check out in Vancouver. While the sandwich was good I didn't find myself obsessing over how great it was. Mortadella Supreme : the immaculately buttery croissant style bun surrounds a delicious but not to heavy warmed mortadella that envelopes an egg with a runny center. The Swiss cheese is the perfect complement and the mustard is an ideal addition or acid. This is heaven in a sandwich. Must order. It's not just for breakfast either. Bodega Sandi - Would have been my all time favourite if not for the previous sandwich. Very similar to the mortadella except it's a potato brioche and thousand island aioli. It really just boils down to my preference for croissants and I love the mustard in the other sandwich. And amazing second best ever for me. Pull apart bread was excellent with a savoury center The beet coffee style drink was surprising, unique and delicious. The pumpkin spice variant had an unwelcome element of hot spice in it that made drinking it uncomfortable. If you want your drink spicy then go for it. Otherwise it's a hard pass. One cafe kept coming up when I was doing trip research, and that was Nemesis Coffee, more specifically their mortadella supreme ($12.50). I can see why it is so highly lauded, as the supreme croissant had an excellent integrity, with loads of flaky layers, whilst holding together mortadella, fried egg, and Swiss cheese. The mustard aioli helped to cut through the richness of all the cheese and buttery croissant too. As a Lafayette Bakery semi-regular, I found that the supreme at Nemesis felt more structurally sound but as a result, more crispy and overbaked rather than a softer, more traditional croissant. I did like the savory breakfast sandwich twist, as I generally see supremes in the sweet category. I noticed a lot of patrons also ordered their Green Hash ($18.50) but I ended up getting the Salmon Toast ($18.50) instead. I loved the pairing of whipped goat cheese with an orange olive tapenade-- it really highlighted the tang of both the citrus and goat cheese. I would have liked a bit more salmon on my toast, but overall it was a solid choice. I also tried the Blueberry Cheesecake Danish ($7.25), which was good but lacked something sharp in flavor to cut through the custard, like makrut lime from Radio Bakery's version. The jalapeno aged cheddar croissant ($8) was also serviceable, but I did find that the interior lacked the layers I was looking for in a laminated pastry and tasted a little gummy. I also ordered their Batch Brew ($4.50) and the coffee was fresh and had notes of honey and apples. Very impressed with the quality of their coffee! Overall, I would definitely recommend Nemesis' savory offerings over their sweet ones and I really like that they are strict with seating-- you will be asked to leave if you have already finished your food and there is another party waiting. read more

Matcha Calamansi Soda (4.5/5) - This was a refreshing matcha ginger beer drink. I was slightly disappointed that the calamansi flavor wasn't very strong. Mortadella Supreme (5/5) - The tastiest breakfast sandwich made with mortadella, fried egg, a tasty sauce, and spiral croissant pieces. The saltiest of the mortadella was balanced by the buttery croissant and mustard aioli. This place feels like it is built more for Instagram than for actual hospitality or good coffee. The host/manager was unnecessarily rude and handled seating very unfairly. My mom was asked to get up and wait in line, while another party was allowed to sit. It was embarrassing and poorly handled. When I pointed out the long wait, the response was essentially that they have "the best coffee in Vancouver". That kind of attitude only works if the coffee is actually exceptional -- and it wasn't. It was below average and not worth the wait or the attitude. Very overhyped. Nice-looking space, weak service, average coffee. Kafka next door is a better option for coffee and cookie. read more

Nemesis is hands down one of my fav cafes in Vancouver. This was my first time visting the Gastown location though! I went on a Saturday morning/afternoon and there was a crowd but we were seated in about 25mins. The space is not as big as their GNW location but it's still good enough for a small group. I got their tiramisu croissant which is one of my fav, they don't skimp out on the filling and it's so decedant. Also got their chocolate croissant which was pretty good! For savoury I got their mortadella, no words to describe how good it is. For drinks, I tried their new coconut iced coffee because it sounded so unique and I love coffee. I should say I didn't like it as much as I hoped I would, it wasn't too bad but I didn't think the coffee and coconut flavours went too well together. Overall, Nemesis still ranks as one of my top cafes in Vancouver. read more

My goodness. This place was so good we came back for a second visit on a 3 day trip. Truly great pastries. The Mortadella Supreme and the Blueberry Cheesecake Danish were AMAZING. The Salmon toast was also just as good. I may sound repetitive but the coffee was also just as good! Generally coffee places have either good pastries or good coffee but this place really nailed both. I can't say I was especially impressed by anything because everything we tried blew our minds. Service is very friendly (they recommended the danish so I may owe him my life). The vibes are great. I'm disappointed because the two other people who wanted to try the sandwhich didn't get to because of the limit. This happened the last time I came as well. We ordered the Mortdella sandwich that came on a special croissant roll. Very good and tasted like a classier bologna, egg and cheese sando. Next the Bodega sandwich. Bacon, egg and cheese on a soft roll. We added bacon and avocado (of course!) and devoured it happily. I had an iced Americano that was excellent. Nemesis is probably one of my favorite cafés I've ever been to. The vibe, the food, the drink, everything just hits. I went on a Saturday morning and, no surprise, the line was out the door. Totally worth the wait though. I grabbed the blueberry cheese danish and oh my god, amazinggg. I feel like blueberry flavor usually gets lost or tastes kind of artificial, but here it was front and center. It came through the cream cheese filling in the best way. Tangy, sweet, creamy. Just everything you want in a pastry. The avocado toast was next level too. They topped it with za'atar and chickpeas and it all just worked. Earthy, crunchy, herby. The flavors came together in a really satisfying way that made it feel different from the average avo toast. And the ube matcha. So good. The matcha had that deep, rich green color that makes you feel like they know what they're doing. The ube didn't taste like fake syrup at all. The mortadella supreme has a ton of hype, so we had to give it a try and it does deserve the hype. This cafe is adorable! The cafe has the baristas almost in the center of it making the drinks, which I think is such a unique setup! Everyone here is super friendly and so sweet, even when it's so busy and chaotic! We had gotten the Bodega and French and for drinks we had gotten the mocha and matcha ube. I LOVED the matcha ube!
