Tsujiri is one is my favorite places to grab a Matcha Yogurt Frap. The matcha and the sweetness they add is just the right combo for me. Recently I also came to try their high tea. It was fun to eat on the tatami mats in the back - we got the whole space to ourselves since we came on a weekday. Note that the sets come in 2 and whatever tea you choose is for both people. The set was unique and very filling - it came with a mini unagi rice bowl, matcha yogurt with berries, sweet corn custard, 2xnigiri, and hojicha cake, etc. Their menu changes every few months though so best to check their Instagram to see what's new. Warning: Parking on the lot is 1.5hrs only for the whole day and they are strict and will ticket you - this includes if you are running errands earlier in the day in the same lot and had left and returned. Came here on a rainy day and it was the perfect place to enjoy a quiet, cozy afternoon. Tsujiri has such a calming atmosphere. The matcha drinks and desserts were beautifully presented and tasted rich and authentic, with that deep, fragrant matcha flavor that's never too sweet. We have today: Hojicha shaved ice, replaced with matcha ice cream. This location in Richmond had ran out of Hojicha ice cream for a long time. I was excited to see a Japanese take on high tea as I kept getting posts about Tsujiri on my instagram feed. When I had the chance to go to Vancouver, BC with my boyfriend I wanted to go here! First all, you need a reservation specifically for the high tea portion so we booked that ahead of time. As you go in you are led to an area of Tsujiri where there are just tatami mats and no shoes are allowed on it. We were first sat down with matcha to start with and the music surrounding us was serene and calming. Then came the high tea, compared to your usual high tea, without the Japanese fusion. This came with a lot of interesting treats. In the middle tier, there was your savory two different types of onigiri, savory rice cakes, and elevated salad with a jelly. The salad was incredible and unlike anything I've had before. The onigiris were good as they should be so was the rice cakes. Top tier and bottom tier consisted of the desserts one plate for me and one plate for my boyfriend. My favorite was the mango mochi. It was so creamy and delicious! The other dessert was solid too, I like the little mousse cake. I also liked the add on of a matcha sauce for the fruits. Tsujiri definitely transformed high tea into a Japanese version and it was well put. Both usually make me full. I do wish there was more options on savories you could have before eating the sweets, but this is a slightly different experience. read more

I made a reservation for 2:30pm a week in advance, but they totally forgot about it :(. I know it happens, but it was really disappointing. That meant we had to wait longer for the set to be prepared (almost 1 hour!), and some ingredients were replaced. For example they used canned tuna instead of fresh tuna. Unfortunately the wait was not worth it. While the set was beautiful to look at, it got tiring super quickly. The parfait was way too sweet which made us lose our appetites. The idea was there, though the execution could've been better. Tsujiri was okay. I stopped here with my girlfriend on a Sunday afternoon during our Vancouver trip. I made a reservation beforehand via DM/phone call to have our afternoon tea set in the Tatami room. Though the Tatami room was sectioned off from the restaurant, the room was merely separated by this "open wall," so I was able to hear all the noises from the cafe. The Tatami room did not have the private, intimate experience that I was expecting. We got the 2025 Spring High Tea "Hanami" set. We first got our tea, which was served in a bottle with a tea bag inside. The Kabusecha tea was solid, paired well with the tea set! The first thing I tried from the afternoon tea set was the onigiri. The onigiri was easily the best item from the tea set, as we were served Grilled Unagi Onigiri with Yuzu Mayo and Salmon Onigiri with Wasabi Mayo. The grilled unagi onigiri was easily my favorite as the yuzu mayo blended perfectly with the unagi. The spring mix with the Shirodashi Jelly was an excellent addition too! Everything else from the tea set was mediocre, okay at best. I found a lot of the dessert options to be far too sweet, as I expected Japanese sweets to be lower in sugar content. I found the Daifuku not good, it was not as chewy and savory compared to others I've tried. The only sweet that I found somewhat decent was the Dacquoise with Matcha & Strawberry buttercream. I give this 3 stars because it was a very average experience. I appreciated the great service, the tea, and some afternoon tea items. But was this worth the $90 CAD price point? Probably not. For that amount, I was expecting to have my expectations blown away. I would personally not come here again. I would recommend this place to others if you have a sweet tooth and you are a huge Japanese food enthusiast, just wanted to make this review to manage expectations. We were lucky to get last minute reservations. They have a tatami room for a few guests. If you want the tatami area, we recommend you reserve in advance and request it. After we sat down they brought the Sencha which we really enjoyed and they brought extra hot water in case we wanted to add more to our tea steeper. They then brought out the towers and it was a lot more food than I expected. There were a lot of sweet items, but it balanced well with the bitterness of the Sencha. My husband and son really liked the unagi onigiri so they each got an extra one. So delicious. We were so full and happy. I have some mixed feelings about our dining experience at Tsujiri. Our reservation was at 12:30pm and we were promptly seated. However, none of the servers came to our table until about 20 minutes after that. I will give them the benefit of the doubt, as our last guest arrived quite late due to having trouble finding parking. Perhaps their intention was to wait until the last guest arrived. Although I still find it quite unusual. We waited so long that one of the members of our table, went to the front to see if we needed to place our order with them at the cashier. We were celebrating Mother's Day, so we decided to try their high tea menu. There were quite a bit options and some of the portion sizes for the items were surprisingly quite large. Unfortunately, we found that the sweets to savory ratio was a bit too much. The mochi texture was perfect, but I found the filling to be too rich. I really enjoyed their fresh strawberry banana dipped with white chocolate matcha sauce. Another favorite of mine was the strawberry mousse cheesecake. Both onigiris were delicious. One other thing that I feel would have made our experience more enjoyable would be better seating. We were seated at a table with bar stools that had no back or leg rests. Additionally, there wasn't anywhere for us to hang our coats/bags. It was a bit of an awkward set up, especially since I'm not particularly tall. I had higher expectations, and it didn't live up to them. There wasn't much on the menu, and some items were sold out. Perhaps we arrived a bit late, around 7:30 PM. The ambiance was quiet and mostly clean. Matcha was the only flavor left for drinks and ice cream. The matcha zenzai came with three tiny mochi balls and red bean, and it wasn't too sweet. I heard about this place from a relative and swung by. To my knowledge they were originally specialized in only desserts but they recently started expanding out to more savory snacks and meals. Our group had varying cravings from sweets, drinks, and full meals so this seemed like a great spot to check out. We had their Yuzu Cheesecake ( amazing ), Salmon Poke ( Yummers ), and some drinks ( great Matcha). Tried the holiday high tea service and I must say, for $37/person, it's worth it! It's a Japanese style high tea, so it's not your typical English tea service. But for the experience and great tasting foods, I'd come back again! The desserts/sweets were mostly matcha flavoured but it was all delicious -- keep this in mind if you don't like matcha. The savoury items included soup, 2 onigiris, and a salad. It also comes with hojicha tea. All in all, I'd come back if they do a seasonal tea service offering different food items. The store is located in a pretty big plaza, but in the opposite corner from the parking structure. The tatami mat room is exclusive for reservations. They have regular seating for walk in customers who want to enjoy a drink or other items. There's four tables and one higher table that seats 4. On a Sunday afternoon, the main area get's crowded and loud around 2pm. The afternoon tea set was cute! For fall 2024 the set includes: two onigiri (eel and salmon), oden soup, salad, matcha ice cream, matcha panna cotta, and three kinds of pastries. We started off with hojicha tea. They provide a tumblr of hot water to refill your teapot. The pink chestnut pastry was still frozen in the middle and it was hard to enjoy the ice cream if you want to eat all the savory items first. A local foodie posted an update on the new tea set at Tsujiri and I had to come back and give myself a 2nd chance. Hagan Daaz green tea has gone down hill even the Japanese imported version from TnT. We got the last seating of the day which was at 6pm. There were distinctly 3 groups and we were in the middle of the tatami seating area. First group got there before me and wore Japanese anime and had a full on photoshoot before during and after the tea. To my left were a group who clearly wasn't into dessert, but one dessert lover. My neighbours were super fun. My table got served last, a good 30 minutes plus after the first table despite I was there before the last group. Very quick intro to the items, I feel bad as the servers were leaning over every time placing the items on the table (poor back). They didn't want to step on the tatami. Management: Take note, you don't want your servers straining their back. My favourites were: Matcha pudding, hand rolls, mochi balls, the dash soup had great flavour but it was barely warm and the crunchy bites were soggy by the time we were served. Misses: inari (the salted plum is too overwhelming for what's going on), macaroon (flavourless and lack of almond flour), Hojicha ice cream was flavourless, chestnut cake (too mild), matcha cake (the icing is so greasy and no flavour) this one was the worst as it looked great and tasted like an artificial Japanese Twinkie. Value wise is great. Unfortunately there wasn't a flow to mild to strong flavour, or enough savoury items to balance out the lack of sweetness of the items. When sweets aren't mildly sweet, it becomes just whipped fat/ stabilisers. Hope they continue to tweak their set as I do see great potential. read more

There aren't many places with a $40 High Tea/ Afternoon tea menu nowadays. The cheaper ones are usually in Surrey. We have heard pretty mixed reviews for Tsujiri's new $40 menu but we still want to try it out. My first impression was whether we will be full but after finishing the set I was very full. I like the savoury options a lot but some of the dessert items are not to my liking. The canele looking pink dessert which I believe is sakura frozen yogurt. We didn't know at that time so the exterior was melting with the interior still frozen. The flavor reminded me of cherry cough syrup. However, I love the dang with kinako powder and the kinako panna cotta. Overall, I think the set is worth it at that price point. The service is not the same as traditional afternoon tea place. Once our food came, our hot water thermos was refilled once and no one asked us if we wanted the bill or not. We were quite confused and walk to the front of the store to pay instead. If you want to try this tea set, remember to make reservations. There are only 3 tables in the tatami room in the back. The tatami room is very good for kids. My son loved walking around while we were having our meal. read more

I really wanted to like this place but there is room for improvement. There is a certain aesthetic with their tatami room space and I liked how the tables were not crowded together. A friend of mine booked a month in advance to secure a table for 4 in their tatami space for high tea. At $35 it can't be beat and I left full (a rarity for high tea in the Vancouver area) so kudos to them for being able to achieve that. What challenged me was a few things including their food and service. Food: looked really great - the presentation had been thought through and everything came out all at once except for an opening soup. One of my friends made a good call to ask them to bring the soft serve later as it would melt and put you on a timer to finish everything else. Macaron feet was too big and as expected the texture was off making for a chewy experience. The green tea pudding was definitely the star of the entire experience. Overall the food was fairly decent which was at a 4* level. Service: it was OK - food came out fairly quickly once we all assembled, and they obliged with our request to return with the soft serve later. They did check in on us for a bit and then at the tail end - nothing. We had to go to the front as their regular service area was jammed full of customers on the other side of the partition. It was probably a brief oversight. Splitting the bill was no problem and the auto-gratuity started at 15% which is standard for sit down service. They do not take AMEX. Based on this no stars were gained nor lost. Things to note: At one point before we started our meal I used the single restroom (which is not really accessible as it had lots of things jammed in that same hallway). I noticed that just outside the door was a baking sheet precariously balanced on a blue bin with some high tea components on top (the cake/cookie at the bottom of the chestnut dessert) - this isn't particularly food safe and I wasn't sure why this item was outside the core food prep area. There were also a number of fruit flies through the service at our table. When we initially sat down our table had not been wiped down with sauce and crumbs visible - as our reservation was at store open it is likely that the table hadn't been cleaned up from the service the night before. They were quick to correct this and wipe it down but it was odd. Based on the items above a star was lost for sanitation. They were generous with Hojicha tea refills and came by several times to make sure it was topped up - this was great! The parking nearest to this restaurant is only 90 minutes long as a member of our party found out - our service time was about 2 hours long so please be mindful of this and consider parking in the parkade. There are signs but they are essentially a wall of text and hard to read. I know the staff are keen and work hard so they can definitely improve. I enjoyed everything about my experience, it was so cute and aesthetic inside and the desserts were all yummy. My friends made a reservation so we were seated right away. We did have a group of six people and ordered three high tea sets, so we waited about 40 minutes for the sweets! But we were provided with tea and it was pretty busy inside so a wait is expected! The set is $70, but is made for two people and $35 each is so reasonable. We ate a light lunch before coming here which I recommend since there's only two savory options. My most favorite items I had were the matcha panna cotta and hojicha soft serve!!! Also notable are the little mochi balls; we had two, one in a black sesame sauce and another in soybean powder! This review is for their high tea. Price: $35/person High tea is by reservation only. Ask for the tatami room for a more comfortable experience (but no service since it's in the back and they forget you're there). I made a reso well in advance and was disappointed when I saw the tiny table they reserved for us out front. We were squished between two families, then the server asked if we wanted to move to the back (I don't get why they didn't seat us there in the first place). This experience was different from the high tea that I'm accustomed to. Normally you would have a list of teas to choose from and get your own pot, but here you're given 1 pot of green tea to share and a thermos of water if you need a refill. They provide 1 cup of dashi soup per person, which was a nice palate cleanser. Normally when the server drops off the tray, they'll provide a brief description, but they don't do that here. You're supposed to just know what you're about to consume (not safe if you have allergies). The soft-serve ice cream is on top and they let you take photos, then they remove it until you're ready for the sweets. It only comes with 1 salad, which was easy to split. The cake was a bit messier to split, and we didn't bother trying to split the ice cream. This high tea is not recommended if you're a germophobe or don't like sharing. Overall I enjoyed the food as it's different from the typical sandwiches and scones. High tea is good value but service definitely needs to be improved. read more

Came on a Saturday night and the place was packed. We made reservations for our high tea and they sat us at a private area. Loved the ambiance, gives you the real experience. High tea - tea was of course delicious, so was the soup that came with it. Two layers of the high tea were dessert, and the bottom layer was the savory parts. Everything was very delicious. We came back for our daughter's favourite high tea! They make a wonderful Matcha soft serve which is probably our daughter's favourite part of this High Tea. As tasty as the Matcha soft serve is though...I personally prefer their Houjicha soft serve. It is absolutely bomb! If you havn't been here then you really should check it out. Each High Tea set serves 2 people for $70. That works out to only $35 per person!  The High Tea requires a reservation but if you just want to walk in and eat some food without a reservation, they do have a regular menu that you can order from. I finally made it to the Tsujiri in Richmond. I had this place bookmarked for a long time. During covid, I showed up but they said they do not allow dine in. This time managed to dine in. This location is different from the many other locations because they have more than just parfait. B and I ordered red bean dongo and a matcha double cheese cake to share. The portion size is quite small. The cheesecake was absolutely delicious. The dongo was tasty and that was definitely B's favorite. There are limited seating here. Prices are at the higher end. Came to Tsujiri for their high tea, which was AWESOME. I think it's my favorite high tea experience especially because of the seasonality and variety of the ingredients. For summer 2024, their menu had a lot of yuzu and mango - we had a yuzu hojicha tea which was great. My favorite of the dishes was the dango at the end, it was a nice mix of salty and sweet. I was really full by the end, surprisingly, probably because of the parfait and the mousse. I would highly recommend coming for the high tea experience (great value for the price, too). read more

We dropped by this matcha place recently for a light snack. We wanted to try the matcha souffle pancakes but they were sold out. They also had a high tea set that looked pretty good but we wanted something light. I finally ended up getting a hot genmaicha tea and my friend got a hot black sesame latte. We also got a slice of hojicha chestnut shortcake to share. The cake was so light and you can taste the flavor of hojicha and small bits of chestnut. Delicious! Drinks were great too. The staff are nice but during my visit there was only a couple workers, so the place can get busy quickly with large groups. The restaurant's atmosphere is nice and has posters demonstrating the history of the establishment. On this visit, I tried several drinks and snacks. I went for their high tea menu (matcha and sakura) and it was lovely! This is probably one of the more affordable places to get high tea, and the portion and quality was great. I like the balance between sweetness and savoury (leaning more towards sweetness though) and the variety of textures and types of food was pleasant. Came here on a weekday right when they opened at 2pm for a chance at the afternoon tea set. However we were told we needed to make a reservation via call or in person for that experience which was totally understandable! I think it would have been nice if this information was posted on their website or advertisement to let customers know (unless I missed it somewhere). So just a heads up in case anyone wanted the afternoon tea set! We ended up ordering other items on the menu since we were already there. FOOD: 1. Grilled Unagi Dashi Chazuke - This item was the sole item that led us to have a very mediocre and not so pleasant experience. I was pretty disappointed with this dish. What we got didn't match the picture. We were missing 1 side dish (got 5 instead of 6 as seen on the menu) + some of the side dishes were missing items. The green onions were supposed to have the rice crackers along with it and we were completely missing the makisoba roll. The reason why we completely forgot to bring this up to the server was because it took 1.5 HOURS for this dish to be made...and at that rate we were tired and just wanted to leave... 2. Hojicha float - Very delicious! The hojicha ice cream/soft serve was very smooth and the roasted flavor was apparent :) For $8 CAD it's a decent size I'd say. 3. Matcha Rare Cheesecake - Light and not too sweet! Definitely a favorite. I really liked that the cream cheese added a good tartness to it which balanced well with the bitterness of matcha. 4. Tonkatsu Black - Matcha soba noodles in a rich creamy broth :) I really liked this dish and the chashu was definitely one of the better chashus I've had in ramen! This was super filling and I was very satisfied with this item. SERVICE: - Very kind staff! I know they were trying their best but it really seems like they're understaffed for the the amount of people they bring in...we came on a weekday and it still took a very long time to get our food (in particular the hot food) - Going back to the Grilled Unagi Dashi Chazuke. This dish took 1.5 hours for it to be served...which I think is an absurd amount of time to wait. I'm not sure if today was an off day...but we saw many others waiting a long time for their hot food today. I would also like to say that our party was the 2 group that ordered right when they opened at 2pm. I think some transparency with what was going on in the kitchen would have been nice. I still don't understand why it took so long to make...and that made for a bad experience. AMBIANCE: 1. Small place but decorated nicely! 2. Very well lit and in an area with plentiful parking. I don't like giving low reviews but this was just kinda absurd now that I think about it. Overall, if I were to come again, I think I'd only come for the drinks or dessert since those take less time to prepare and serve. I came on a Sunday evening and it wasn't busy. We ordered two matcha espressos and a matcha soufflé pancake. The espressos came out quickly and tasted fine--nothing to rave about. The pancakes took about 15-20 minutes to come out (they let you know about that on the menu too). The pancakes and whip cream were amazing! Light, airy, soft, not too sweet, and the matcha flavor was there. The whip cream complimented the pancake. The red bean and orange toppings missed the mark for me. We made a reservation months ahead of our trip since we saw this place on IG. They require a deposit but may kindly waive it if you're traveling from abroad. We got the summer festival plate and it was SO much food! My favorites were the savories especially the Inari. The texture of the tofu wrapping was sooo good- thick & cushiony. I liked the salmon salad too. It had a hint of lemony and umami flavors. The mango was super fresh and sweet. Everything was good but too much for me to eat. I wasn't a fan of the fermented rice pudding but I'm sure there's some people that would like it. Service was fine. Place was a little busy and there weren't alot of workers so you had to grab their attention to order. Nice place to go for high tea and try alot of different things especially for an indecisive person. I would definitely come again next time around to see what's in season! Arrived early for a friend date on the weekend and was able to grab seats. The line up was initially short but the two patrons at the front took a really long time. I ordered the Zaru Soba (4/5). The noodles were refreshing and well cooked. This was a very simple and no frills plate. To finish off, I had a matcha frappe (2/5) which I do not recommend. For almost $9 it was mostly whip and ice with barely any matcha. Big let down. Try something else. read more
