Sushi sogun . I rate them the best sushi place not only for the taste but also for the variety they have. First of all the dine -in experience is a must. Cute little restaurant with comfortable seating. All sushi rolls are great along with other items on the menu. The service is pretty fast and they have late opening hours until 10pm atleast and weekends differ.

Have gotten takeout from here a handful of times over the last few years and thought it was good but not great. We actually sat down and ate in the restaurant for the first time recently and while I still think the food is more a 4/5, I'm going to bump up to a perfect score based on the overall dining experience. Outstanding plating -- our sushi came on a giant boat, while the chicken karaage came in a wicker basket shaped like a bicycle, and tables around us got their sushi served on platters with warrior statues with steam pouring out of their helmets. The food feels like a spectacle in addition to being delicious. Very attentive service, with staff that clearly cares about their customers and remembers returning faces. Love the kitschy aesthetic to the decor as well. Overall, great value for an extremely filling feast. The karaage portion is so large we couldn't finish it, and it was great. For a neighborhood sushi joint, you can't ask for much more. Can't wait to go back!

Came here before going to a movie, it's a little further from the theatre than I realized, but I'm glad that error. This place is fantastic. Food is excellent and good portions with good prices. And the food is served in different interesting plates, ours had a smoking bull.

    Warm welcome.

10/10! The sushi here is fresh and so tasty. As good as the sushi was, the highlight of this place is the presentation! We ordered 6 different rolls that came on a BRIDGE - and then they poured liquid to make smoke come out of a little ornament on it. Never seen this at any other restaurant, it was amazing! Some other people in our group got the teriyaki chicken and teriyaki beef and they came out in sizzling pans. Also very yummy. It's a cute and intimate place. Definitely a hidden gem. Staff is very friendly even considering it was busy. I called and made a reservation and our table had a nice little "reserved" plaque. PLUS, it was soo cheap compared to other sushi places, especially for the quality. All in all, extremely happy that I picked this place to eat. Would absolutely recommend!

I used to drive pass by this restaurant all the time on my way home. First experience was ok,but I feel like they could have been better. I ordered the #1 Tonkatsu lunch special and a BC roll. A bit disappointing if you ask me. The special comes with a miso soup, and a bowl of rice, green salad and Tonkatsu. The BC roll was great. Never have I ever been to a sushi restaurant where their BC roll was a majority of BBQ salmon skin. Honestly, my favorite item out of the meal. The size, amount of salmon skin, and the price was on point. I still can't believe it was only $5.55. The miso soup was also good. It had large pieces of seaweed and more tofu that I'd used to having with my miso soup. I enjoyed the deep and rich flavour. Now onto the bad part. The plate of rice, salad and Tonkatsu. I was disappointed that my green salad had no dressing on it. Friends who I was with ordered a egg/meat lunch special and had their salad on the side. Their salads seems to be bigger and had dressing on it. The Tonkatsu was also a bit disappointing. One of the pieces was literally a piece of fat, deep fried and coated in bread crumbs. I was expecting to get something better considering I was one of the first people on my table of around 12 people to order first and get their food last. Overall, I say it was a decent experience. Probably gonna have to visit again to update my review. The presentation here is pretty cool. My friend ordered a crunch combo (2 sushi rolls with deep-fried tempura batter on top (not actually deep fried rolls)) and it came with a cool plate. It was a Samurai Warrior where the top of his head could be taken off; was filled with dry ice and smoked (added water at the table). You could see the effect and the smoke you could feel. Pretty cool and a unique experience.

I guess there's a reason why the ratings are so good here. This place was amazing. The toro and salmon nigiri were absolutely delicious. The uni sushi pieces were heavenly. We got here for dinner just after 5 pm. In the hour we were there, I counted at least 10 pickup or Uber Eats orders being received. And the staff here recognized about 75% of the dine in traffic. They have a loyal clientele.

When the photo says it all. Ordered cucumber roll and it wasn't even made properly. All the rolls were open and just big chunks of cucumber in it.

It's always a great experience at Sushi Shogun. The restaurant looks really nice and the service is wonderful. They are always happy to greet us. The meals are delicious for a reasonable price. It's always very clean. Every time we eat there we have a great experience.

We decided to try out Sushi Shogun based on the good reviews as our regular go to sushi place in Surrey was closed. However we were quite disappointed. I felt like the salmon oshi was cheaper out on as it had avocado in the middle rather than a piece of salmon. It also felt like they got lazy with their knife cleaning as parts of the oshi was spicy even when no eating the jalapeño which made me think they didn't wash the knife after cutting the Jalapeño. Also there was jalapeño on the saba oshi which was quite unusual. The ocean garden roll felt it was way too watery and the roll was actually in a soup base? The sashimi on the chirashi don were cut quite thick. The beef teriyaki and kappa roll were only okay.

Fair prices, superb sushi and a flair for dramatic presentation of their food. Staff are friendly and the ambiance feels authentic.

I honestly told myself to really stop sushi'ing for awhile cause quite disappointed with some of the places I tried from the basic to the higher end places for the last couple of months. But here I am again, giving this place a second change because tried it when it first opened and it somewhat of a disappointment. This restaurant is located right in the heart of Whalley in Surrey and same plaza building as one of the oldest computer store around. I have to give the owner kudos for being gutsy and take a risk on opening a restaurant here, most of them didn't survive. Parking was easy as the parking lot was right in front for patrons. Inside the restaurant was spacious, clean, well ventilated and a nice casual ambiance. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Appetizer tempura. Everything was fresh but wish the tempura batter were more flaking and better. 2. Salmon uni sashimi. Pretty fresh and tasty, nice portions. Yes local uni are always available from the suppliers for restaurants to buy. any restaurant said no uni cause out of season.. just roll your eyes . 3. Toro sashimi. Very fresh and buttery, I asked the waitress before ordering this and literally told her I am really picky with toro and making sure it's really fresh and she assured it was. And it was, thank you!! 4. Foie gras nigiris. Fresh and nicely seared to bring out the delicious taste of foie gras. 5. Uni, spicy chopped scallops, tamago, saba, unagi nigiris. Everything was good but the sushi rice needs a bit of better seasoning. 6. Spider-Man roll. Pretty good if you are those who love saucy food. 7. Lobster roll. Pretty good, a different take on this then the usual lobster roll. Lobster meat layered on top of the roll and then torched, as for the remaining lobster meat, it is mixed with tobiko and layered on top a bed of imitation crab meat on the lobster tail itself. The last time I had something similar to this was in Toronto a few years ago. 8. Seafood udon soup. A generous portion of seafood, but the broth was more of a Chinese broth then an udon broth. Overall, the restaurant is located on the corner of King George hwy and 108th ave so you can't really miss it. The waitresses and staffs were very friendly upon arriving and leaving so that's good. I am glad to see this place managed to up its game in terms of its food quality and menu since my first visit. Hopefully it continues to strive to be better and evolve its menu more. If you are those who like generous portions for a good price then this place is worth a try. This place went from a no star to a 3.5 stars for me.

We stopped by over the weekend for lunch. The restaurant is located in a sketchy part of Surrey. However, the restaurant presented itself with a modern ambiance and felt like a completely different world from the outside. We ordered a number of items off the menu: a lunch bento box, salmon oshi sushi, toro aburi sushi, spicy scallop roll and beef udon. Food arrived fairly quickly after we placed our order. Sushi was fresh. Spicy scallop roll was actually quite spicy. Miso soup was pipping hot. Beef udon soup was satisfying in the cold weather. The lunch bento box was a decent sized portion of food. Service was great. Staff stopped by regularly to refill water and clear dirty plates. We had leftovers to pack home because we ordered a lot of food for two adults. Price was average. Credit card payment accepted. Covid precautions were in place. Hand sanitizer was available. Staff wore face masks and customers were socially distancing between tables.

We love Japanese cuisine so I decided to surprise the hubby with an omakase for his birthday in January. Unfortunately, they have a 6-month wait and I was not prepared so I ended up booking it for our anniversary in May. The food was phenomenal and delicious! I love the chawanmushi loaded with goodies inside. The ankimo (monkfish liver) dish was so tasty with the scallop and prawn. Black cod was cooked to perfection! The nigiris are all so fresh. We quickly put ourselves on the waiting list for after September so we can come here again soon! There's a parking lot just next door. The place inside is small and intimate. Service is great!
