This is a wonderful sushi spot, with probably the best name I've ever heard. We decided to try it and we were not disappointed. We sat inside and were helped immediately. The service was very quick and the place was clean and inviting. It wasn't super busy, but they all seemed to be busy doing side work, cleaning, prepping. I love to see that. We got a few rolls and the deluxe sashimi plate, and let me tell you, the presentation was gorgeous. The Ikura was a special treat - it's not often it's included in sashimi plates. The fish just over the border is always somehow better, and it did not disappoint. It was fresh and we watched them slice it up, so had no worries. The rolls range from basic to inventive, and they were all delicious. The owners were really kind and the good service made the meal so much more enjoyable. When we don't want to drive all the way into Vancouver proper, this is going to be our go-to spot. read more

Wow , very happy I stumbled upon this place. It is beautiful inside modern yet also has cute Japanese booths! I've only been here once but based off of the experience it was very positive and I will be back. First of all the entire staff greets you when you walk in and greet you goodbye. Service was prompt and food came out fast. The food itself was amazing! First of all a lot of sushi places really disappoint me when it comes to their chicken teriyaki but the chicken tasted great, was fully cooked and not soggy or dry. The gyoza was delicious. This was the most filling lunch box I've had in a while. FULL portions. Tempura had a nice fresh batter on it. I can't wait to come back and try more menu items. Best chicken teriyaki! read more

I'm on a quest to find a good Japanese restaurant in South Surrey. This was my first stop - close to home. I will not be back unless I'm desperate. It's not that the food was that bad, it's just that I have to believe there is much better elsewhere - I have had much better outside of South Surrey. Firstly, the tamago (for my daughter) was dried out. Also...they didn't know what tamago is. It's egg. I had to order sweet egg. Secondly, they're not Japanese. Not that it's a big deal - though I challenge anyone to find me a non-Japanese owned excellent sushi joint. Thirdly, it's pricey for what you get. I got a oyako don - had to order that as chicken don. And a Tiger roll. Now, this whole funky/specialty roll business is new to me. You venture to Richmond and you rarely find specialty rolls - at least I never have. These tiger rolls, dragon rolls, giant-mouth-stretching-mess-making-gimicky-rolls are not Japanese. The tiger roll though, was edible and actually not all that bad. I'd actually try the other rolls IF they didn't cost me my left arm. At $11 for 6 pieces (albeit large), it's not worth it. The chicken don was $7 but small. About 6-7 pieces of chicken covered is thick, processed teriyaki sauce. Lots of semi-cooked vegetable and a small portion of rice. I had a look at their sashimi. Not appetizing so I wasn't willing to take a flyer on it but judging by the rest of their fare, I can't imagine I'd be missing much. The good points, miso soup for all. They do cater to kids....they brought a straw for my daughters 'cool' green tea. Nice touch since I didn't even ask for either. read more

Promising. It really is. Nice location, nice interior, but from a Japanese food guy, this is the low down. It was for dinner for one adult and two little girls. + Stay away from the Butane flavored kushi - why bother. YUCK. + Good portion of Toro sashimi. But it was amateur sashimi hour as it wasn't cut right (it was in blocks of sashimi) + Slow service to end ... No water refills + Dynamite roll is too big too much crab + Oyster mototaki was a mess of corn and cut up Oyster in a tasteless sauce in an aluminum foil bowl + Bento box was a fair size + Everything was fairly priced + Nice and clean inside + Gyoza was a little burnt and was fairly tasteless + Ebi sunomono was a pretty big portion... Lots of shrimp and was good. All in all, folks who really don't understand Japanese food are making it. Not memorable at all, which is like most sushi places in Surrey, unfortunately. Visiting Canada on a trip and behold, what a serendipity! By chance we found this neat place, very clean, nice decor, and a stunning synthetic jellyfish tank at the entrance. Every item came out perfectly. We had the sashimi and sushi lunch boxes. The fish quality is just superb, melting in our mouth, fresh and natural. We also ordered the Philadelphia roll and Paradise roll. Both were satisfying and out of this world, especially the paradise roll, so flavorful and mixed with harmony, yum! Bummer that we are only passing by and the chance of coming back is slim, otherwise I would come here every wee! read more

We have ordered from this place for months and have usually been satisfied with the service and food, however tonight we placed a take out order for 4x beef teriyaki dinner boxes and arrived home with 4x veggie dinner boxes. We phoned to let the restaurant know their mistake and the lady on the phone was rude and would not acknowledge their mistake, repeating that it was us that ordered veggie. Very poor customer service and we will not be giving them our business anymore. read more

I have struggled for 4 years to find a sushi restaurant since leaving Ontario, I left my favourite sushi house behind when I came here. There is this 'element' of flavour that I could not find anywhere much to my dismay. I didn't expect much but got more than what I expected. I decided on 4 different rolls - aiming for anything spicy with crunch. Once we got home we were quite shocked- in a positive way. The rolls were big, garnished beautifully & the layers of flavour were quite outstanding - normally we NEED soy sauce, and the wasabi is always fun to have but we didn't need any of it really because the flavour was SO impactful. Everything was fresh and designed with much care, & purpose. Thank you for going out of your way to craft us the perfect sushi meal & for the complimentary dish - that was unexpected so thank you for showing us another dish that we could include in the future. If only other restaurants in general paid more attention to their food presentation, quality and quantity of what they are offering AND for impacting so much flavour (which other restaurants don't do- so their food is bland therefore we rarely order out) thanks for making us believe in sushi again & we appreciate the ITAMAE (skilled sushi chef) read more

Best sushi in town! On the pricey side but worth the extra few bux. We are regulars and the food is consistent in quality and taste. One downside is that they charge extra for white meat chicken and its by request. read more

I'm honestly surprised by the other reviews on Yelp. I've been to Damiko Sushi about ten times and it has been nothing but stellar. The Dynamite Roll Special is something that you have to experience. Its a heaping plate of artisan sushi stacked high covered in fried Panko and beautifully garnished with greens and a sweet sauce drizzled over top. I live in Vancouver and its some of the best sushi I've ever had. I've only discovered this place a few months ago, maybe they got off to a rocky start? Reasonable prices, modern interior, friendly staff and fantastic food. read more

it was a quick lunch stop on the way to whistler. lunch menu @ 11:15AM . vege bento-box was decent except my kid did not like the taste of the tofu teriyaki. the nigiri cuts are decent with good small rice portion (good as i am cutting carbs). Best sushi I have found in this area. Only complaint is that plenty of times the rolls have fallen apart (usually on the crispy rolls) when trying to pick up which is annoying. Always friendly greeting and goodbyes and usually some sort of small dish is sent over for everyone to try. Always recommend Damiko's. read more
