They did give a bonus appetizer for our order which was quite nice of them. This has been a favourite sushi restaurant, it is where I first appreciate the taste of oshi 5 years ago, and always come here when have the chance, their salmon and mackerel oshi is always something I order when I visit the place for its well flavoured and fresh taste. The mussel teriyaki is very unique too they have their own sauce which is so tasty. So far most of the food that Ive been ordering from them has always been satisfying. The last time I went was September last year, and their service hasn't changed, staff were very accommodating, we had a hard time booking though as I believe they only have three or four table capacity due to Covid so in between tables where close, knowing that the place has a small space too. I remember having a conversation with a person who professed to be a foodie. I asked them their favourite place for sushi and they told me Victoria Sushi was the best. It only took me 5 years, a Pandemic, a new hobby, the side effects of my 2nd vaccine shot, and a trade show out in the industrial area to eventually finally end up at Victoria Sushi. Ordered the salmon tempura roll and the chicken katsu don. As a general thing, boy it was weird to sit down in a restaurant again and feel like I was somewhere else. Also, the air conditioning was a big plus. The salmon roll was solid. I dig having the big rolls filled with lots of food. Salmon was delicious. The chicken katsu don might have been the best I ever had. I had a very generous portion of chicken katsu. The veggies were a good side as well. I just loved the chicken katsu a lot and that egg all over the crust. I felt like garbage eating all that food cause of my shot, but boy I could not stop. Overall, loved the food at Victoria Sushi. If not, they have paid parking in the structure next to their building (which we had to do), but the parking rate is comparable to downtown Vancouver rate! Restaurant itself is small so there are only a few tables available. We came early for dinner, so we didn't have any issues waiting for a table. Lots of people order takeout as this is in a residential area filled with high rise condos. Staff were friendly and attentive to our needs. Bathrooms were roomy but only 1 person can go in at a time (per gender). The regular sushi makis and nigiris were comparable to other sushi restaurants around the lower mainland. I found that their prices were a bit higher than your average sushi restaurant though. If you're coming here, come for the aburi sushi only. This is where they shine! We ordered the appetizer aburi nigiri combo and it was fantastic! The Hawaiian roll (special maki) was also super delicious and I highly recommend it as well. An unseemingly delicious sushi restaurant hidden in a quiet residential neighborhood in New Westminster. Victoria Sushi is known to be the first restaurant to serve Salmon Oshi Aburi. The Dinner Course for 2 came with a ton of food and have a nice variety of everything from entrees like sushi, sashimi, teriyaki to appetizers like tempura and tuna tataki, and it was fairly priced as well. Everything was absolutely delicious and full of flavor! The sashimi was very fresh, the tempura was fried and drained perfectly, and the teriyaki was really tender and had a nice balance of sauce on it! I personally favored the aburi, tuna tataki, and the sashimi, though I wish the aburi and sushi pieces was just a tad bit bigger in size. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful with the menu. They knew their menu well and had great recommendations and opinions. Overall, great quality and delicious food, friendly and fast service and reasonably priced! Returned with a few friends today and at the end of the day, it is their rolls that keep me coming back. We got the mango scallop roll again and it was as good as ever! A refreshing spin on the chopped scallop and just a dollop of avocado ontop makes it lighter in contrast to their aburi. We got the scallop and salmon oshi and although there was no filling in the middle, these were creamy, greasy and absolutely melt in your mouth awesome. I preferred the salmon as i felt the jalapeño on top gave it that needed kick. We also got a salmon sashimi which was nice and buttery along with a oyako don and yaki udon. Both kitchen items were a little lacklustre but were packed with ingredients. There was no shortage of chicken in both and although the flavours were a bit on the sweet side, they were not overpowering. I also liked how the yaki udon had a nice al dente chew. overall, good prices for tasty sushi but food comes up quite slowly although servers are honest and kind about it right from the start! read more

What a great little place in the middle of nowhere to get quality sushi! We first went on a dinner get together and we craved for more! Their aburi sushi are delicious, not sauce-laden, and fresh. We had the salmon oshi, basil ebi oshi, and unagi oshi, and a few appies. My Mr.3 settled on their boneless chicken karaage. Our server was very attentive and making sure that our teas are filled. Though everything was outstanding, the only thing I would say is that a less sauce for the agedashi tofu, because it's almost soup-like, and the bottom tofu was completely soaked. I recommend to go on a regular day and "off peak" hours because the place is small and line up can be long and parking is not very ample around the area. I really liked this sushi spot. The 5 rating is for their aburi sushi. While the selection is small, and portions are small, prices are reasonable and there isn't a long wait like Green Leaf sushi (another sushi restaurant known for aburi). I also really liked the Tobiko Aburi Roll and the Bang Bang Salad. Tip: Ask for the spoon (special off-menu item) that contains salmon, and chopped scallop. The aburi was very flavourful, and not over cooked, so the scallop, mackerel, and salmon oshi we ordered was still soft and buttery. Decided to give this place a try after one of my customer got me one of those take out bento box. It might be a little tricky to find this place if you are not too familiar with the New West area. Inside the restaurant was quite small and I coukd tell it needed a little bit of tidying up and perhaps some renovations. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Real crab sunomono. I am totally at lost with this one; the crab flakes were dry and the whole sunomono was literally tasteless. Truly a real crap sunomono. And no idea why its reddish 2. Appetizer tempura. Didn't have that nice soft flaky crisp and midget prawns. 3. Beef tataki. It came smothered in japanese mayo and garlic flakes that were lightly torched and placed on top bed of shredded raw onions. It was like eating semi cooked boiled beef with raw onions. Hmmm tried to be too creative? 4. Crab cloud oshi. Used the same crab meat as the sunomono so you already know the result. All you sushi chefs out there, stop using real crab meat from a can!!! 5. Toro, tamago, ebi, chopped scallops, tuna nigiris. Let's just say everything could've been fresher and even for the most basic sushi, I had way far better. 6 salmon and toro sashimi. Salmon is slightly passed room temperature and toro weren't buttery at all . Overall, the staffs were friendly but quite disappointed in the food quality. It seems like this place mainly cater to its little community of surrounding highrises. I know after a turbulence couple of years for the restaurant industry, many are still trying to get back onto their feet but this restaurant definitely needs an all around upgrade. Victoria sushi is located in New West, nearby residential apartments. I couldn't find the parking lot even though there were signs saying parking at rear . Ended up just parking a but far and walked. Inside is pretty quiet and the decor is nice. Service wasn't very good. The waitresses would just stand by the cash register and talk amongst themselves after they served you food. Didn't do a quality check ever and we had to raise our hands to ask for drink refills. The menu has some unique items, but the food quality didn't stand out. We ordered the salad that had jellyfish in it, a salmon and unagi oshi, tempura udon, nigiris, and the korean kiss roll. The jellyfish salad had a good sesame sauce, but you couldn't taste the jellyfish very well and the noodles they put in the salad hid the texture of jellyfish. The oshis are pretty small and didnt have that much fish in them, they were pretty expensive for what you get. The korean kiss roll is good, but nothing special. The nigiris were solid as well, but you could get better nigiris at the same price point somewhere else. This restaurant was a good try, but wouldnt come back again. read more

So we each got our own sashimi bento box and we shared a Salmon Oishi roll (Aburi Sushi) I have to say its definitely an eye opener. Or should I say its a wow wow restaurant. For the price, I have to say its a very good deal. Sashimi were fresh. Portion was great. The aburi sushi was my favorite. It has that nice smoke kick to it. I highly recommend this place. So the fall back of this place, is the parking. There are 4 parking space here. On top there are street or residential parking which is kind of difficult to come by. You might end up walking quite far. This is a residential restaurant so I am guessing not a lot of people know about it, unless you live in the neighborhood. The restaurant itself is super small too. Parking is in the underground parkade with only a few spots so I suggest coming probably around 2pm or before close. Victoria Sushi is one of those places that you'll see every-so often on social media since people rave about the pricing of their aburi sushi. We really had to go out of our way to come try to place as it's located in New West. Since it was going to be an official thing, we made sure to make a reservation for it; probably because we needed a table for six as well. As amateurs, we did not google this place beforehand so it was quite surprising that they were located in a residential-like area. Thankfully we carpooled so parking wasn't difficult but it's definitely very limited since it's inside a garage lot. We got seated right away and that was probably the fastest service we got all night. With only two servers working on the weekend, it was hard to even flag them done. We ordered a 7 things from the menu but we were given one dish at a time so overall, we ended up spending almost 2 hours here for food that did not fill us up. We contemplated about ordering more food but that would mean a longer waiting time so we opted out of that. I'm not sure how the service in terms of food is organized because there were certainly groups that sat down after us and got in-and-out before we did. Overall, if you can overlook the service speed or better yet, order it by phone and pick it up at a said time, you can avoid the waits and still get the great food. The aburi definitely lives up to the hype here because the fish literally does melt in your mouth! Either the food here was great or that we were just too starved to think it wasn't but either way, it's well-deserving of it's 4 stars. Located in a quiet residential area. My friend and I decided to visit the restaurant for Lunch. Since we came on a weekday at around 12:30pm, I was able to quickly find parking. The restaurant was small and we were greeted by the employees as soon as we walked in. The main reason for why we came here was for the aburi oshi sushi. We ordered the Salmon Oshi, Unagi Oshi, as well as the yam roll and beef yaki udon. The food came out relatively fast. For the aburi sushi, it had a nice ratio of all the added ingredients which made each bite relatively good. I wish the sizes of the sushi would be a tad bigger (the sizes were a bit on the smaller side) but it was still delicious. Out of the two, I personally liked the unagi more. The yam roll was a yam roll - nothing too special. As for the beef yaki udon it was actually really good - good amount of seasoning/sauce (actually quite addicting). The sushi quality is fresh and so flavourful and the pricing is very reasonable compared to most restaurant. I've tried almost everything on the menu and haven't came across anything I don't like. My go to place for fresh, light and crispy tempura!!!! They are the best in town! We recently visited for dinner on a weekday and was happy to be seated right away. We ordered the deluxe bento, prawn tempera and ebi basil oshi, tobiko aburi sushi. The deluxe bento was such a great deal at $20 it includes a large plate of teriyaki chicken or beef with rice, 2 pieces of prawn tempera and yam tempura each, 5 pieces of sashimi, 3 pieces of salmon oshi and snapper tempura too! Decided to try Victoria sushi just because of the good reviews on Google and yelp. Parking is a bit difficult to find as this is primarily located in a residential area (tones of low rises and town house area). Decided to order the Scallop aburi, dinner bento and delux bento. Verdict. Aburis, good but Hella oily. Tsashimi had a bit of a weird taste so not sure if it was the set we got. The server served me beef instead of chicken but decided to not exchange thinking that it would be ok but it turned out to be the worst thing lol. Super dry and dehydrated even with the sauce. My husband's beef tasted like fish.. The snapper tempura was pretty good. I would not come back but recommend that if you do just try the aburis and skip the rest. We came around 7 pm Saturday night after a failed attempt at another restaurant and were lucky to be seated immediately. Although we found parking immediately, the restaurant is located in a neighbourhood and could definitely be tricky on busier nights. We ordered the scallop oshi (so buttery), beef oshi (different but just okay) and saba oshi (great flavour). The chicken teriyaki had lots of bean sprouts (yum) but they don't serve it with the chicken skin like normal so the chicken itself was a bit dry. Other highlights were Ebi Mayo: big prawns perfectly fried without being oily, and Hamachi sashimi: generous cuts without being obnoxious and extremely fresh. Its a bit out of the way for us but we will definitely be coming back. Prices were very affordable and double thumbs up for the quality of their fish. read more

After a morning medical appointment in uptown New Westminster today, we headed over to Victoria Sushi for lunch. Dining at the restaurant was a first time experience for us. We arrived just after the restaurant had opened its doors for business at 11:30 am -- we found nearby street parking (it's 2-hour free street parking in the area). Upon entering, the restaurant looked very small, with only a few tables arranged around the perimeter, but after settling into one of the tables, it became apparent that is was larger than originally thought -- more tables hidden from our view, to the left of the service counter, and behind (we saw two larger groups with reservations being shown to these areas, but did not actually see the setups). We liked the ambiance of the place - quiet, nicely lighted by natural light from outside, darker, warm colours, and all - and enjoyed looking over to the open kitchen at times, and watching the chef's doing their thing. We were their first customers of the day, but quickly followed by others - by 12 noon, this part of the restaurant was basically full, except for stool seats at the bar in front of the kitchen. Service was warm and friendly, helpful (when ordering), and nicely-attentive -- the two servers at the time, kept in contact to know how we were enjoying everything, and always ensured our water glasses and tea mugs were kept full. What was ordered and shared: -- Agedashi Tofu -- Assorted Tempura (prawns, veggies) -- Fish Tempura (listed as 'Snapper' on menu, but as 'Basa' on bill) -- Assorted Sashimi -- Dynamite Roll Combo. Nice presentations, top-quality preparations. Tofu sweet & creamy, with an ultra light, crispy coating - and when dipped into the flavourful sauce, was so tasty. The assorted tempura consisted of prawns, yam, sweet potato, squash, and green beans - light, crispy coatings, and ingredients cooked to perfection - sweet, and flavourful. The fish tempura was a major delight - I had ordered the large size, and was so glad I did, it provided good portions for each of us, and the dish was so well-prepared - coatings light and crispy, the fish flesh, soft and moist - the fish sat on a bed of fresh & crispy lettuce, with a touch of a light and flavourful sauce - to say the least, a very tasty, and much-enjoyed dish. Sashimi was for daughter and I, and we thoroughly enjoyed it - ingredients were pretty, cool, sweet, and tasty. The dynamite roll combo - fresh, quality ingredients, so well-prepared - the rolls were mostly for Mom, and she loved them - daughter and I did the sushi, and found the offerings fresh and sweet. First visit to Victoria Sushi after recommendations fro friends and Yelpers. Unfortunately I was on my own for lunch as it was a last minute decision on my way home from IKEA - I was hungry and needed soosh! I ordered the Spicy Combo priced at 12.99, came with Spicy Avo Salmon, Spice Tuna and Tuna, Salmon, Ebi Nigiri. Note - the roll had Sockeye (preferred) and Nigiri was Atlantic which had that frozen aftertaste it always does. The fish was fresh, service prompt - my only complaint was there was a bit too much sauce...and when serving quality fish like they were, it's not needed. The Spicy Tuna was Spiiiiiiiicy! And I have a high tolerance to spice man! Will go with a group next time in order to sample more, it's hard to get a good range of sushi when you are on your own. read more

One of my favourite sushi restaurants; their salmon oshi sushi is very similar to Kishimoto and Minami. However the portion size of this particular menu item seems to have shrunken from a few years ago. Despite that, this is a must try if you come to Victoria Sushi. The salmon oshi sushi is slightly fatty and buttery, the jalapeño adds a slight kick and it's paired with a slight hint of vinegar from the sushi rice. Another roll that I recommend is the aburi tobiko roll - this is a more unique roll that I haven't seen elsewhere that is very well done. The salmon sashimi is fresh and very good. They're a decent size as well for the quality that you get. You can order 9 pieces of sashimi for $11.50 or ask for a half order of 5 pieces. I would recommend the seafood salad as well if you enjoy raw fish. They put in a fair amount of fish in there and the dressing is tasty. The boneless chicken karaage wasn't the best. It was acceptable but not something I'd recommend. The fried coating isn't that crispy and it is a little bland. However it is quite affordable at a little under $6. The service was great. 5/5. The servers were attentive, friendly and quick. Our tea was refilled often. I was surprised to find the last two times I visited the restaurant wasn't too busy. It is a little out of the way but worth the drive. I recommend to make resos just in case but there were lots of tables available when I went on a Tuesday and Thursday night. It is difficult to find street parking but there is a parking lot in the complex beside that restaurant that you can park in (pay parking). Overall definitely a great Japanese restaurant with plenty of solid menu items! read more

I really liked this place! It lived up to the hype. Delicious special rolls and great aburi oshi (square pressed sushi torched on top). Parking is very hard to find tho! read more

We've been to this little hidden gem a couple times. I really enjoyed the Aburi Oshi sushi. I was there for the Aburi sushi only. Their appetizers did not stand out. The service was ok. It can be better but they are understaffed. There were't a lot of parking spots. But I managed to find parkings the couple times I was there. Would definitely revisit! read more
