Very oil tempura

I used to order alot from here before but recently the quality of their food has become low. I ordered take out bento box sashimi's and they didnt put soy sauces. The tempura was so soggy and oily that i was not able to eat it. There was also a small hair under the chef's special(salmon)

Salmon, tuna, red tuna, tamago, ikura nigiris

WELL let's see... If my memory recalls, I first went to the old location a decade ago and visited this new location when it was first opened not long ago. I decided to give this place a revisit since mama here was kinder than the food I tried. This new location is located on 6th Ave and 6th Street in New Westminster. There are both free and paid street parkings through the surrounding streets and area. Inside the restaurant is freshly renovated; dining area at the front with sushi bar and kitchen to the back. Its a bit smaller then the old location but still okay size and comfortable. Here were the food I ordered this time around; 1. Tuna toro sashimi. The portions were generous, the taste was buttery and fresh. 2. Salmon sashimi (1/2 order). Pretty fresh and tasty (I personally preferred the Atlantic salmon more than the sockey) 3. Prawn tempura. Nice light crisp batter, the prawns were of good size and it was deliciously hot. 4. Oyster motoyaki. It had its own recipe take on it, but the oysters were little midgets and the sauce didn't do it for me although mama there was quite enthusiastic about it. I personally just wanted one nice fresh juicy oyster motoyaki on its shell lmao. 5. Salmon, tuna, red tuna, tamago, ikura nigiris. They were okay and pretty basic although they use their special sushi rice. 6. Spider roll. It was okay, pretty standard. I think i preferred the one at Sushi California more. Overall, the atmosphere was pretty casual, the service was decent and the food was okay. It does get a bit crowded and the noise level goes up a notch during peak hours because of its smaller space but it's still quite comfortable in terms of spacing. The service was okay and the staffs were quite friendly. WELL let's see... As for the food, they were pretty basic and standard although they do have their own patent recipe for the sushi rice. Which on another note is a big deal cause good sushi is all about the quality of the sushi rice.

More pink sushi rice & rolls

I absolutely love this sushi restaurant! It is my favourite! I enjoy eating salmon and the salmon they serve here is very fresh and it tastes amazing. There is a very large variety in rolls and each one tastes amazing. The location is clean, with lots of seating and the washrooms are clean as well. The service is phenomenal, 10/10. Each time I've been here I have had the same server and she is very very good. I will definitely be back!!

This is one of our local regular places we go to in rotation. My husband and I have probably been here at least 10 times and we are always impressed by how consistent the place is with always having a great meal, great service, and a nice time. This place is family owned and operated and they take great pride in not only their restaurant but their patented pink rice that is healthy. The staff is always friendly and prompt even when the place is busy. Between my husband and I, we've tried most sushi on the menu. Some of our favorites are crazy girl and crazy boy, mango smoked roll, tiger prawn and maple roll. Their miso soup here is literally the best as well as their goma-ae and chicken karaage. We've also had their bento boxes a few time, they are delicious and definitely able to feed two people! Definitely give this place a try, it's a local gem!

What I.

Sushi Well Japanese Ambience: Casual/modern/clean Parking: Street Meter Food: Excellent Service: Exceptional Costs: Good value When majority of the reviews are of the same possitivity, it only means they are consistently good and deserves to recognized! Inconsistency just doesn't work for me. My sanity, time and money are just too valuable for businesses that constantly needs justifications, having to right the wrongs, etc. Afterall, we eat out because we want to enjoy! So why not do it right the first time? This place understands that! Service: We came 1/2 hr b4 closing. Greeted warmly by the server with warmed hand towels (usually done but rarely now in upscaled chinese banquets). I told the server that I'm not a fish person and my partner so I'm just gonna regretfully order bento box instead of the high end items. She said it's fine and even recommended things she felt I might like. The servers and owner proactively attended to us with smiles through the entire meal. Food: I've seen photos of their food prior to coming but they don't do them justice! The bentos were lavishly presented! Everything in the boxes were so fresh and delicious! Especially the beef teriyaki was so tender that I had to ask what cut of beef. The owner told me it's sirloin. I was expecting the skewers of shrimp to be overcooked, but it was just right and so were the tempuras. Loved croquettes which are rarely included in bentos. The sashimis my partner told me were not skimpy. We also liked that they didn't pile on the rice to make food appear "big" instead, lots of fillings! We also loved the spicy tuna roll. I was told me that the spicy sauce is homemade. Yeah, we can't help but kept comparing all aspects to other restaurants of alike that are more expensive but lower in quality. Just because it was the end of the day, the tired servers were still diligent; the food were still fresh and tasty. The lemon slices in the water, warm hand towels add a nice touch. IMO, they don't cost a lot but small gestures like these speaks huge about a business's integrity and value for customers. I told Jenny that IMO why some restaurants fail soon or later but I can feel that Sushi Well isn't gonna be one of them!

Years ago I used to come to Sushi Well's old location near Columbia SkyTrain station which closed awhile ago. Since then, they reopened at a new location near Royal Center in New Westso i decided to check it out with a friend. We came around 7pm on a Friday night. It was packed. At the time, all tables were occupied and there were lots of patrons waiting for their take-out orders. Even so, we waited a mere 5 minutes to get a table. The only real negative I have to say is that Sushi Well has nice staff but needs improvement when the place is very busy. I took 10-15 minutes just to try to get our orders in which is unreasonable. It was hard to get the wait staff's attention because they were so busy. The waitress realized this and apologized profusely about the wait, though. Also, I had to ask several times for extra plates (for sharing) because the staff kept forgetting about it. Hopefully they train their staff to be more organized during peak times so they won't forget about tables therefore making customers wait longer than usual for service. However, the service got better as the busyness died down a bit because they were attentive in refilling our tea and checking up on us (which i always appreciate!) As for the decor, they have a dark wood motif with dark table dividers, chairs, and wooden floor panels. I like how they attempted to make it look nice with ornaments placed near the window. They stuck tree branches in a large standing vase and on the windows which gave a little bit of a more natural setting to complete the look. The faux fireplace on the wall gave it a homey vibe. Washrooms are clean with a bit of graffiti written on the wall. But for most of the part, they're tidy. Ambience-wise, the place gets pretty loud when there's a ton of people inside at the time. Otherwise it's not that loud. They play slow relaxing jazzy music in the background at a reasonable volume. Price-wise, I found most of their menu has fair prices compared to other Japanese restaurants. Their "special" sushi rolls range from $10-15 and the portions are big enough to be shareable. I decided to try most of their sushi dishes because I was craving some great tasting sushi. After a few minutes of looking at the menu, my friend and I both ordered their "special course A" ($24) which includes an assortment of sushi, dessert tempura, sashimi, udon soup, nigiri, karaage, and salad. In addition, we ordered the "angry jalapenos" appetizer, okonomi special sushi roll, and the Sushi well house roll to share. Their maple sushi was alright. Like most of their sushi, it looked delicious. But taste-wise, when all the flavors of the ingredients and sauce melded together in my mouth, it just tasted like any other sushi. Kinda bland just by itself though. The fish roe on top with all the sauces drizzled around looked cool though. I did like their sashimi and nigiri. It was fresh and with no fishy flavor. It tasted like any good cut of fresh fish sashimi. Their udon soup was alright. A little bland by itself. Taste-wise, it just tasted like any other udon soup you could buy anywhere else. Their "angry jalapenos" appetizers were pretty good. The cheese inside didn't really give that strong, nice cheesy taste as i expected but the sauce they put on the plate made it taste a little better. $7 for just four of them is a tad pricey i must say. Their Ice cream tempura tasted really nice! I like how inside has a cold sweet vanilla ice cream surrounded by warm tempura which was thankfully not overly oily. I could eat several servings of these if i could! Chicken karaage was also delicious. It was not overly oily. The sauce they put in made it taste better. Their japanese tea is definitely watered down more than i hoped and tasted like any other tea served at many other asian restaurants. The mini salad dish was made with fresh lettuce and it was refreshing. They put a dollop of some type of salad dressing that adds a little extra flavor to it. Their Sushi well house roll looked amazing but the taste was nothing special. The inside is made of seafood and sauce which melded together in my mouth and tasted like any ordinary sushi. But i really liked the yam crunches they put on top. Their okonomi special roll (spicy) was actually very good and was the best of all the sushi i tasted that night. I especially liked the crab meat and the bacon in it. In terms of the food overall, I pretty much liked everything! I appreciate how they give attention to the presentation of their dishes. I will return and try one of their non-sushi dishes such as their donburi. Sushi Well gets a solid 4/5 from me.

This places serves pink rice. Its similar to another restaurant that I have been to in New Westminster that also serves pink rice. Not sure if they are related (unfortunately, I forgot the name of the other restaurant). This place is ran by Korean. I ordered a piece of uni sushi and salmon Aburi sushi. The Salmon Aburi sushi was really weird. It had peso on top and I do like peso but not on sushi. Also they had too much sauce on top of the sushi. The uni was very tasty. Service was ok. My friend C ordered the Bento box and it looked like a really good deal. It had a good assortment of variety and also it came with deserts. Too bad I wasn't hungry or else I could have ordered that. Plus it was cheaper than what I got.

Negitoro and uni nigiri

I finally get to try the pink sushi rice. I am still skeptical about the health benefits but I am on board as long as the food tastes good. I tried the salmon Oishi sushi, uni nigiri and the negitoro roll. They were good. The negitoro roll was one of the better ones around. Uni was fresh too. The salmon oishi was nice but I was not that into it. I think it was the sauce. I think Miku or even Victoria Sushi versions were better. The place is quite spacious with metered street parking outside. Good service. You get offered tea when you order pick up or take out.

All about the pink sushi patent!
Issabelle F.

First things first... their sushi rice is PINK! They use pink sushi vinegar as opposed to regular vinegar, which maximizes healthy nutrients such as Omega 3, Omega 6, Iron, Potassium, Vitamin C and Beta Carotene. It was a cold rainy day, when we came in (just another day in Vancouver), so we opted to sit next to the fireplace. This place is surprisingly spacious inside, with plenty of seating and tables on either side of the restaurant. I came in here with one other person and we split two rolls, an order of the gyoza, chicken karagge, and the oyster motoyaki. We loved everything except the oyster motoyaki. I normally like oysters, but this particular dish felt undercooked and I wasn't a fan of the sauce on top. I did really love the sushi well house roll (avo, cream cheese, prawn tempura, cucumber, deep fried spicy red snapper, imitation crab, yam crunches, and special sauce) and chicken karagge. The roll was generous in size, and covered in yam crunch flakes, which I particularly loved. The chicken karagge was perfectly juicy and crispy all at the same time - pair this with a chipotle dip, and we were in heaven! Service was very quick and our teas and waters never made it past the half way point. I'd happily come back here for more pink sushi! Yum!

Chicken karage

First things first: they have pink sushi rice! And it's patented (what?!). They use some type of pink nutritional vinegar in their sushi rice and have a poster that explains it all - reading it even made us feel a little bit better about stuffing our face with sushi because it has more nutrients that normal rice... a LITLLE BIT better We got the Sunshine Coast roll, chicken karage, an oyster appetizer, Gyoza and one other roll I'm forgetting the name of (shame on me, but it was COVERED in shaved yams). Both of the rolls were great, just enough sauce and had melt-in-your-mouth fish on top. Loved them and would 100% get them again. I found the appetizers a little salty, but my favourite was the gyoza, then chicken and then oyster. There was a man sitting beside us who suggested we try the oyster one and we thought "why not?", but I probably would not order that one again... maybe I just don't have the acquired taste for oysters! Overall atmosphere was nice, wasn't too packed and service was good (I always had refills of my tea). Overall a good sushi restaurant in new west that I would go to again!

Sushi Well surprised me with its fresh ingredients, quality and pricing! I could see they uphold a high standard for their restaurant and is proud of their food! They specialize in their pink rice which is very unique! (it's patented by them!) Their California combo was only $10.95!! The uni and ikura Don was super fresh and comes with an amazing price! $18.95! I don't know anywhere that can beat their price with that quality!

Pretty cheap for such good quality sushi! You can really taste how premium it is and its overall presentation is appealing to the eye. We talked tk Jenny, one of the workers there and told us about how they use pink vinegar unlike other sushi stores that makes it healither for the consumers, so you can really tell that they care. Will definetly be coming back! Only took one picture, but you can see the quality. FOOD: 10/10 PRICE: 8.5/10 PRESENTATION: 10/10 STAFF: 10/10 OVERALL: 9/10

The Teishoku ocean set came with: Carrot puree vinaigrette radish Cold tofu which was a bit sour Ponzu black sesame broccoli Truffle edamame - super yummy Diced carrots and cucumbers - I dipped these in the leftover broccoli sauce Rice- well seasoned and yummy Super filling The rice used for the salmon avo roll was seasoned with a brownish vinegar which gave it a more rustic look that I enjoyed.
