Calamari Roll
Connor M.

This was a great mom and pop style sushi restaurant in New West. The menu was large, but not overwhelming. They also had a lot of aburi nigiri that looked fantastic that I'll have to get when I go back. Sashimi and Sushi Combo - 8/10 - great Sushi and very fresh! Takoyaki and Chicken Karage - 8/10 - the takoyaki was tasty and not doughy, but there wasn't much octopus inside. The karage was very juicy, but needed some more flavour Popeye Roll - 6/10 - Popeye rolls are a frequent item for me since I love Gomae. The sauce was well made and flavoured, but the roll was bland overall Calamari Roll - 7.5/10 - A very unique and tasty roll! The winner in this dish was definitely the sauce on top. It was an unagi sauce with kewpie mayo and black vineger. The downside was that there wasn't a lot of Squid inside the batter Taste - 7.5/10 Apperance - 7.5/10 Decor - 7/10 Overall - 7.5/10 This is a very quaint and enjoyable restaurant with some great offerings. Just because a restaurant isn't a 10/10 or fine dining doesn't mean it's not enjoyable. This was for a local dinner on a weeknight, and it was great for that! Definitely going back.

I saw the high rating here and thought that this place would be good. To my surprise its just a regular sushi place. I got the sushi and sashimi combo. One thing I didn't like was that the rice was hard. It tasted like left over rice. Not cooked well. They are skimpy on the fish in the sushi and sashimi. Too much rice. Décor was ok. I came here on a Sunday for lunch and yes they were busy. Most of the sushi restaurants in the hood don't open on Sunday. For that reason we chose here.

I had the chirashi bowl and it was not that fantastic. I keep forgetting Vancouver is not the place for chirashi. My bad. Sushi rolls, yes (only for the sheer varieties available, and not for the delicate taste found in better Japanese restaurants or in Japan), but other things are a bit of a hit and miss. The sashimi in the chirashi was decent, fresh. The rice was horrible. Hard and dry and it make me wonder if it was not cooked properly or if it was old leftover rice. The service could be better too. It took a long time for someone to even serve us water, and it was a hot summer day too. They only turned on the AC when more people entered the restaurant. I doubt I will be back any time soon as it is not really in my area.

Very nice little restaurant! The workers were super friendly and always made sure we were doing good. I got the bento box and it was very filling! I really enjoyed the beef teriyaki and the salmon sashimi! I was very impressed by the amount of sashimi I got! Definitely recommend this place!

The sushi here is fresh, ingredients taste distinct and very tasty. Sushi Heaven definitely isn't your regular, neighbourhood sushi joint. Menu offers a lot of reasonably priced options, especially around lunch and the service here has been pretty solid, i've probably had take out from here 4 times in the last month and haven't been disappointed which truly highlights the consistency of their sushi chefs. Would recommend this sushi restaurant to anyone living in the New West area and beyond.

Came here on an impulse and left satisfied! The place is clean and cutely decorated and more spacious than I thought. If you like comfy, homey vibes this place is great. The music was at perfect volume and very to my taste. I ordered the alaska roll and three pieces of nigiri. I thought the food was quite fresh and yummy. The alaska roll comes with mayo inside which caught me by surprise but it was yummy. The nigiri was all good too except the toro which was just ok. If you come from 11am - 4pm and dine in they give you deep fried custard ice cream things on the house :) If I'm in the area again I'll be coming back.

Gomae is delicious, very fresh & lots of sauce. Chicken teriyaki is cooked perfectly & the teriyaki sauce is to die for! Staff is very friendly & yells a loud hello & goodbye to you in Japanese every time! I love it!

Average sushi place. It's nice. Yes, they do greet you upon arrival and say bye when you leave. Based on what I could tell, the place is Korean run. Sushi has good quality/price ratio. Gyoza is not made in house. Was deep fried not pan fried so was quite crisp on the outside. Takoyaki was good, had decent sized pieces of tako. Interior decore was nice, comfortable.

Hash brown rolls, deep fried California, chicken teriyaki, spicy tuna crunch, awesome rolls!

Been here many of times, never disappointed; staff is always friendly, sushi is always delicious and amazing prices. Try the udon pastas, and always get the sweet dragon balls? I think it's called. It's deep fried ice cream with raspberry glaze and chocolate! For only 3.95!!! (Last page)

Heaven benton box

We had lunch one day after hospital visit as we didn't know where to find food. We ordered a benton box and few sushi rolls. Surprisingly they were very good. The sushi rolls were fresh and delicious. The benton box had various items for everyone. We definitely will come back again.

Fish to rice ratio is wrong . Rolls here consist of mostly rice and very little fish .

My friend and I were intrigued by the Watashi Special One Meter Roll Combo for Two and also ordered the Assorted Sashimi. For 28.95, the one meter roll was visually impressive - we each got to try one piece of 10 different rolls (chef's choice of chef special rolls and aburi). And it wasn't like they were lazy and chose rolls with the same fillings and just changed the toppings - there was a nice variety of both the sushi and topping. My only feedback would be for them to explain or provide an explanation of which rolls were provided so next time I can order them directly! The assorted sashimi (also chef choice) were delish as well - I believe we got walu/butterfish, salmon toro, ika slices, along with the usual salmon, two types of tuna, hamachi and hokkigai. Both of these dishes were about $30 each and amazing value. These days I'm less about the quantity consumed and more about variety, which generally comes with a higher price tag. At watashi, I was equal parts full and satisfied by the different flavours at a very reasonable price tag. Hidden gem for sure! One uncomfortable observation was a customer on the other side of the store talking on the phone and cutting her fingernails at her dining table.... I feel like the employees should have stopped that behaviour because its quite unsanitary. Luckily we had already finished eating at that point.
