I did not have a great experience at Maguro and ended up getting sick (off a vegetarian order). I ordered through Skip the Dish and my total was $41.30 for my meal. I ordered Spicy Agedashi Tofu (pretty good and not greasy and the broth was delicious). Broccoli Salad (steamed Broccoli with sesame dressing--the broccoli was huge chunks and their was no dressing). Vegetable Sunomono (amazing and fresh with tons of veg). Yam Tempura Roll (classic but the roll wasn't tight and it had spicey sauce on it which wasn't on the menu). I'm not sure what didn't agree with me but I was pretty sick. I also didn't get chopsticks with the order. All in all, this was not a great place for me. read more

Had to eat something to keep up with the busy day so we turned into the mall and found Maguro for our first time. Have only ever eaten anything in Ladner once before at DQ so didn't know what to expect from a sushi place out here. We each ordered lunch box b and I got a tuna avocado roll and my wife a couple salmon nigiri The orders came out lightning fast, my miso and roll were great, the tuna was fresh and large, the roll was really big but I found the rice a tiny bit on the mushy side but still very nice. Lots of ginger Now that's alway a good thing. The serving sizes of the lunch box were substantial for sure, lots of chicken and tempura, next time we will share a box and order a roll or two cause we barely made it through what we ordered, then had to go back to work stuffed. Not the worst possible out come. ;-) Standard Sushi place service, to the point, polite, in & out. Not a bad place for sushi after going to Emma Lea Farms for some blueberry picking. Packed on a Monday at lunch, I tried the Big Mike roll which had spicy crab with avocado on the inside with smoked salmon and chopped scallop on the outside. It was dressed in a sweet and spicy sauce as well. I liked this roll quite a bit! It wasn't drowning in sauce but tasted very good. They weren't shy with the salmon or scallop and overall, I could finish 4 pieces no problem. Being lunch, we also ordered the Sushi Bento which came with tempura, agadashi tofu, gyoza, chicken kaarage, california roll and one tuna and one salmon nigiri. Their fried foods are actually done quite well without being greasy or soggy. Everything was done well especially the chicken kaarage as it was 3 nice pieces of real chicken breast in a thin layer of breading. The tempura was also very fresh and although i don't eat much of the batter, the bits i had were still crispy. California roll is missing a little bit of mayo and is a bit dry but overall, good filling to rice ratio. Overall, a nice place for lunch and although prices are a bit high, we were pleased with this meal. read more

I like my sushi rolls big, saucy and flavourful, and that is exactly what I got at Maguro. For being outside of Downtown and Richmond, I was so impressed by the quality, taste and presentation of the sushi - even if it was just for take out! I was ordering for my friend and I and we decided to split miso soup and three rolls: crazy roll (fried cali roll), lobster maki roll, and dragon roll. Since it was our first time ordering with Maguro we had no idea how large their rolls were. They were so big that we couldn't even finish the three between the two of us! Hey, I'm not complaining. I'm happy that we were able to try all of the rolls, and now we have leftovers! The lobster maki roll and crazy roll were both amazing. Some of the tastiest sushi rolls I've ever had. The dragon roll was also good, but I was just blown away by the other two. When I called to make the order, the lady on the phone was quick and efficient. She called me not even 15 minutes later to let me know my food was ready for pick up. Top notch. Shout out to the Yelp app for introducing me to Maguro. Restaurant:: Maguro Sushi Rating of the dishes:: Katsu Don-2/5, Crispy Dynamite Roll-2.5/5, Miso soup- 3/5. Would I recommend: meh don't really have try the ones I ordered. Personal opinions:: I find the food here very salty even though I already have a pretty heavy taste. I wasn't able to finish the Katsu don because the egg was soggy and the onions had a were taste to it. The katsu don sauce had a sour and bitter aftertaste. However the pork was grilled pretty well. The special sushi I ordered was crispy dynamite roll, the sushi rices was very sticky making it extremely hard to get it off of the plate. There wasn't one piece that didn't disassemble when I tried to eat it. And I know how to use my chopsticks. Again, the sushi, too salty. Beware the takeout service!!! We ordered 4 simple rolls via the online app at 6pm. App advised pickup time would be 6:32. Arrived to pickup at 6:35, paid via VISA first and then was told the order was not ready, would be another 15 minutes. Returned to the restaurant to see 10 others waiting, was told another 15 minutes. This was repeated after another 15 minutes. Finally got my order after waiting 45 minutes, for a grand total of TWO HOURS FOR 4 SUSHI ROLLS. I realize they were slammed, but if they had told me before I paid it would be another 90 minutes I would have left. I do not appreciate the dishonesty about the wait times and there were some furious skip the dishes drivers there as well. The rolls were nothing special but what was really annoying was that they were crammed together in their box so that we had to pry them apart and consequently they fell to pieces. Wow! This place is great. I've eaten sushi all over Metro Vancouver. I never expect much when I go to the suburbs. Image my surprise when I ate at Maguro Sushi. The decor was authentic and cozy. Well colour me impressed. This little strip mall sushi place had some really innovative and beautiful rolls - I only had a bite of the lobster roll and it was pretty insanely good. And huge. A nice little place to drop by when hungry and to walk out satisfied. It's among a big plaza of stores and it is pretty continent to go place in Ladner. However this place used to have quality dishes, now it just kind of eroded to a basic generic sushi restaurant. Some dishes are to drool for, but some dishes are just.. ehhhh. If you're hungry and craving Japanese food and just want to fill yourself, this place isn't bad to go to. I ordered the California Cone and the Mango Roll through Uber Eats. The Mango roll was delicious. Nothing popping, but, it was good. The California Cone was a letdown. Not sure why anyone would order it. It was basically just a cone full of crab. The cone itself (seaweed) was crazy thick. Where's the 6 STARs button? Simple put, this is the BEST Sushi I have ever had in all of the lower mainland. Yup, I'm betting on that. Although I live in Richmond, where there is your pick of several sushi restaurants, nothing beats Maguro. I was first introduced by a friend of mine who knew the owner, and since then I like to say I've become a regular. Maybe going every month or two (yes thats regular to me!). The owner (Hoshin) is almost always there working behind the sushi bar, and is always so pleasant to see. If you go on a weeknight (even during the weekdays) prepare for a lineup. It is best to make reservations. Lineup sometimes goes outside. Sushi is served a little different, and presentation is always amazing. My favorite is the Volcano Roll (tuna with cheese on top, comes with fire!). I haven't taken anyone there that has not been impressed. Go and enjoy! read more

Pleasantly surprised by this sushi spot in the burbs! It was packed for dinner - a lot more kids than I'm used to in a Japanese restaurant, likely because of the location. Definitely not the best in BC, but it's A-OK. It's nice that they have wild salmon here and they have the mix of sushi, sashimi, rice dishes and noodles. Prices are reasonable, about $2/piece for sushi and you can get a variety of platters. Combo boxes are about $14 and up and are very filling. Overall the sushi was fine - food comes quickly and service is OK. I'm probably a bit picky, but the tempura coating could be a touch lighter and some of the fish was too "soft", particularly the tuna. Unagi was OK but didn't melt in my mouth. California rolls had less mayo than most. Gyoza is OK. The fish selection is basic - none of the more exotic fishes here... the menu is fairly westernized. I was pleasantly surprised since I wasn't expecting much given the Ladner location. But if you're out in this neck of the woods and craving sushi like I was, it's a safe stop! Great sashimi! I've tried a lot of sushi places in Vancouver and Seattle areas, and this one definitely is one of the best for the fish IMO. Chirashi bowl was huge. Salmon is wild, not farmed. Some specialty rolls are written on the wall and not in the menu. I was a bit skeptical at first, as Delta isn't the first place that comes to (my under-informed) mind when I think of sushi. For a long time I had to sit back and watch as the quality of Maguro slowly eroded away into yet another generic and bland sushi restaurant. What really made Maguro unique in its heyday was a creative team of chefs who brought exciting and strange things to their menu and, in turn, opened up a lot of small-town folk to a unique dining experience. The first time I ever tried a ~*~fancy weird sushi roll~*~ was at Maguro almost 10 years ago! Anyway, since my last review I have been back many times, and I can say that without a doubt, they've got their groove back! I am so pleased to see that Maguro is slowly shuffling its way back into my heart as one of my favourite places to eat in Ladner. My only complaint is that the service is as abrupt and cold as usual. Had to edit this review from 4 stars down to 3. I'm not one to leave a bad review especially for sushi restaurants because the service isn't always on point. But I really didn't like being rushed out of the restaurant, being handed the bill before we were even finished eating and literally being told to get up because of the line. We weren't a "camper" table either, we were still eating! Anyway, still love the food but that was not a good experience. Love this sushi restaurant! A classic go to with the family or friends whenever we're craving sushi. I get the yam/avocado roll, seaweed salad and the house green salad is to die for. Highly recommend. read more

Is it even possible that this place is still in business!!? The owner/manager could possibly be the rudest person on the planet. She doesn't deserve customers. We were hurried out because she wanted to close, our receipt was thrown at us with a snarky comment! The service was very slow that night and asking a server 4 times for water can be frustrating. Our table was filthy and we need to ask for a cloth to clean it ourselves. I decided at the end of the night to only leave a 10% tip because the service was terrible, the owner took the transaction, gave me the machine and all that was on it was 20% 18% 15% I asked where the cash tip amount was and she had taken that off the machine!! Do I hit other amount % and left 10, she looked at the bill, huffed and threw it at us and walked away. I was in shock, our server came over, because she saw my reaction and asked if everything was ok? I said thats the rudest staff member ever and she said she was the owner manager! She then said that's what I face every night! She said that her working conditions with the owner were deplorable. I felt horrible for the server. I'm guessing that the owner keeps the tips!! Where do I start? Food was below average tasting and servers were rude. There was too much rice on the rolls so it fell apart every time we pick it up. When we asked for some containers to pack home, the server lady just glared and didn't say a word. she ended up giving us only one box when there were clearly lots of food leftover (no "thank you" or politeness did we receive from her.) The lady (which I think was the owner) came over to gave us the bill, she was very considerate and gave us more containers. I've never understood why people are so surprised by a place this good in Ladner. Ladner is a fishing village. Much of the fish that is headed for downtown restaurants came off these docks. This means their fish, salmon in particular, is super-fresh, as is the fish that Ladner's several other very good sushi restaurants use. Maguro's the best of them, though. I've never had better sushi in the Lower Mainland except a couple of very high-end, expensive places. Try their specialty rolls advertised on the walls of the place, many of them are original and delicious. I went in one time with my girlfriend and we just wanted to sit and talk for a little while after we finished our food. Across the street from 'the best California rolls' (Mt. Fuji Sushi) and to the East of 'London Drugs' Ladner is Maguro Sushi. This place was once the best hang-out for seniors as a revived huge coffee shop. Unfortunately, the seniors got diced out . In it's place is an interior that's pretty nice for a small village. The open booths (sorry no tatami rooms) are comfortable and the service is pretty brisk. Unfortunately, it's pretty packed on Fridays, and Saturdays because the dual communities of T-town (tsawwassen -it's che-wwassen if you're cool) and Ladner like the place. The chefs are authentic, and the staff even more so, with sometimes pretty limited 'anglais.' But , if you can handle a restaurant full of 'bustling red-necks' this place is for you. Wow - its sushi gone mainstream now. Sorry to all the 'Ladnerites' but I have lived there for nearly 2 decades, the red neck label stands until evidence to the contrary presents itself. read more

The best I've had outside of the city, something I'd never expected to find! The portions are just right for the price and while that may seem to be setting the bar low, they are VERY generous with meat in their dishes (whereas I see more and more places in Vancouver proper trading out meat for bean sprouts hoping no one will notice). The staff are all very friendly, and while busy, dishes were cleared and tables cleaned quickly, which cut down on wait time. I can honestly say that in terms of ambience, Maguro Sushi excels most in their presentation; the sushi arrangements and aesthetics of each dish was the highlight of my visit! My grandparents live in Ladner and wanted sushi for dinner. We arrived around 5 pm and it was pretty quiet but before we knew it the restaurant was full! We ordered various sushi rolls, udon noodles, chirashi don and tempera to share and my grandparents ordered a bento box to share. I was really impressed with their specialty rolls.
