On a road trip to Clayton Heights we stopped in here for lunch. Veggie roll, tempura salmon roll, agedashi Tofu, Oyako Don. The portions were generous, house tea was good, and the best Oyako Don we've had in years. The room is nice and brightly lit, the server was good the bill very reasonable. We ordered take out for dinner. Food was ready in 25 minutes for pick up. We ordered a few items: salmon oshi, tempura udon, assorted 5 kind sashimi, toro and hotate aburi nigiri. Food was packaged nicely for the ride home. Everything tasted good and was made well. Sashimi was fresh. There was an order of complimentary edamame provided. I found that to be a nice gesture. This restaurant is a good option if you are in the area. The prices are a bit higher than average. read more

My friends were craving Japanese food so I opened up my trusty Yelp app and noticed we were less than 15 minutes away from Denji sushi. Let's do this!!! Denji sushi is now owned and operated by new owner and his wife who are super nice!!! Firstly walking in, I felt like I was downtown. Super clean and chic and friendly waitresses as well as sushi chefs that greet you with a smile! The waitress recommended the dinner set menu. They have various combos ranging from $30-50.00 for 2/3 but probably can feed 4 as we had plenty of leftovers! We ordered Denji combo as well a lion king roll and beef yakisoba. Also came with dessert which you have a choice of walnut pie, cheesecake or ice cream! The beef tataki melted in my mouth and the rolls are to die for!!! Beautifully prepared with even red and black tobiko (looks like caviar) and clean and fresh tasting. I do not know honestly what the other reviewers were thinking? Possibly competition from across the way? Anyways if your in this area which is easy to find, be sure to stop by and try their food! We will be back next week!!! read more

I have tried many sushi restaurants and let me tell you.. this is by far the best I've ever tried! Amazing, quick, and friendly service. The environment is very comfortable, the food was delicious, and it was all affordable. We were kindly given 'on the house' Edamame for our appetizer, and everything we had was so fresh, hot, and flavourful. We are definitely going to be coming back! Very disappointing. The Oshi salmon was completely hard cooked, dry and fishy. There was no torching of the salmon...it's like they just baked it in a regular oven until thoroughly overcooked/dry. Went straight into the trash. At $30 for 2 orders, that's a lot of money to waste. The teriyaki chicken was flavourless, sauce less and had no coating. Veggies were practically raw and it came with a meagre 1/2 cup of rice. The other food was mediocre at best. Can't say I've ever had a dynamite roll with yam in it before. Kids were not impressed. They eat yam on its own but not inside a dynamite roll. Not sure what the hype is but we definitely won't be back. Cannot comment on service as this was a take out order. read more

This was an amazing experience tonight. First of all today was our 50th Wedding Anniversary. We both like sushi and Carole picked out this restaurant in Surrey, British Columbia called Denji Sushi which had a solid 4 star rating on Yelp. We both had looked at the menu last night and had some ideas of what we would be eating. We started with hamachi nigiri, very good, lots of tuna, but rice a bit loose. The portion was quite ample. We then moved to scallop motoyaki and negitoro oishi; oh my, especially the scallops. Carole then remembered that she had meant to order tako (octopus) wasabi as an appetizer. Octopus is not one of my favorites but this was the best I have ever had. The dish is kinda of interesting, you make tacos using seaweed sheets. Carole then mentioned to a waitress how much we were enjoying the food and the service and that this was our 50th Anniversary. Things then began to happen. They brought us each a bowl of complimentary misu which we thought was very nice. Then the waitress brought out an order of sushi which she said was a special gift from the chefs who named it The Happy Anniversary Roll; oh my. We also wanted to order two rolls that had piqued our interest. That was the Clayton Roll and the Red Dragon Roll. Both were a delightful experience. BUT before we started on these three rolls the waitress had one more surprise for us. She told us that another customer had overheard our conversations and was impressed with how we had interacted with the staff. This customer was then in the process of paying our total bill! What can you say. We thanked her profusely and she told us that her parents had just celebrated their 53rd Anniversary and that we reminded her of her parents and was moved to do this. Another wonderful Canadian. A total experience of a life time and dishes every one of which we would order again except for the fact that there are many other things on this menu that we are looking forward to enjoying in the future. read more

WOW.. why has it taken us so long to find this treasure? Tonite was our 50th Anniversary dinner & of course it HAD to be sushi! Yelp search as always provides us with options nearby. From the time we walked in the door we were impressed; welcoming clean comfortable environment, friendly knowledgeable attentive staff along with encompassing menu offerings. We're not "fast" diners, we savor & take our time especially with sushi and were never put under pressure to "order". As you can see from the pics our choices were wide ranging & ALL were amazing! The "flavors" presented & quality of the ingredients could not have been better. Needless to say... some of it came home to be enjoyed later!!! Other diners; individuals, couples & families, were friendly & comfortable adding to the ambiance. This isn't always the case believe me! Truly a pleasant experience. The ONLY thing we wanted to order that wasn't available was the Hamachi Oshi BUT maybe on our next visit... which WILL happen sooner rather than later guaranteed! read more

Denji sushi is under new management, so we decided to give it a try. We've been trying to find a new go-to place since the one in our neighborhood has steadily declined in the last year. The atmosphere was standard, but the servers were very attentive and our tea cups were always full. Our food came out quickly and was delicious! I find that, especially later in the evening, some sushi places end up serving food that tastes "pre made" or rubbery - the rice, the meat, whatever. This was not the case here; the rice was sticky and easy to eat without being congealed, and the meat was delicious and moist. The teriyaki beef was particularly tasty, and I enjoyed that they included a good variety of vegetables (peppers, green beans, broccoli) that were well cooked and not just fried to death and drenched in sauce. Overall, I'm excited about the new direction and look forward to going back! read more

Bought it to go. Service was good and restaurant seemed nice but the food wasn't that great. Salmon and tuna nigiri were old, dry and chewy. Tomago was good. Rolls are a total disappointment. Crazy girl roll just tasted like overpowering "old" cream cheese and not spicy at all. Clayton roll tasted like slightly burnt sweet mush with no texture or distinct flavour. Great sushi spot. We tend to order takeout late afterwork, and they are one of very few sushi joints open after 9pm. Their prices are probably the most reasonable in the area and the food quality is great. My only critique would be of their California Roll, as I much prefer it garnished with whole sesame seeds rather than sesame powder. The tempura is amazing, very golden. Love the dinner box as it's prepared in a very nice looking bento box, even for take out, separating all the portions perfectly. read more

Food was really tasty. I was impressed with their lunch combos and that you could pick what you wanted. Suggestion for the owner: I would maybe offer Miso soup instead of salad or sunomono :) I would have given it 5 stars but the service was painfully slow. I've tried this sushi place a couple of times, take out and dine in. It's not that it's bad but it isn't good either and even though the service is all right, they don't make any extra efforts. They have a good menu but I tried their salmon oshi which is served covered in a yellow gooey "sauce" that was gross. Not sure what they're going for with it. I didn't finish it and told the server why and they made no attempt to make it right. Mediocre service and any creative food might be a risky choice. Won't be going back. read more

I can't believe the good reviews! The chicken teriyaki was inedible, it had a really sweet hardly flavoured sauce yuck. The chicken Karage was 7 dollars for 6 teeny flavourless pieces of chicken , no flavouring ? Also the menu didn't mention the black rice that came with the teriyaki chicken also horrid tasting. This place is within walking distance to our house but we always went elsewhere because we didn't like the general location. We ended up here one night about 6 months ago, and we now go at least once a week. The food is fresh, the service is excellent, and the owners are very sweet. So, lesson learned: don't judge a book by its cover! read more

After reading the reviews I was really looking forward to this place! I guess I caught them on a bad night, there was only a group of four teenage girls there sharing a couple of rolls and one other group of two at the table near us and the waitress had to be asked repeatedly for more tea and eventually she came around with some, only to have to be asked after another long wait again the next time. We ordered the assorted tempura and found it not cooked very well, very doughy inside and greasy, we also did not get the usual dip that comes with tempura. We also had the edame beans to start which did come quickly and were fine. Next we had two rolls a dynamite and a scallop. Both of which were ok, but took forever to come. Personally, I found the rice not of the caliber I expected, but overall the tastes were acceptable, I prefer the dynamite rolls on the smaller side like they do at village sushi. (just as a reference) I found the decor more like a coffee shop than a sushi restaurant, and the prices were very high in my opinion. I travel for a living and have enjoyed sushi all over North America from coast to coast. And I do not consider myself a sushi expert by any means, but I do know when I have been treated and served well, and this restaurant did poorly on Price and service. A really good sushi place is lacking In the Langley area for sure... There are places that are cheaper than 32.00 for 2 regular rolls, edame, tempura and tea, that will serve you like they appreciate your business. This just isn't one of them. But then they are close, but if I wasn't up for a drive to Kamloops to go to oya sushi there or richmond I would probably go to village sushi first, the quality of the sushi is better but not too much less expensive, but at least they enjoy you visiting. I gave this place 3 stars just as a respect to all the 5 stars, but if it was just a bad day, then they don't deserve the 2 I would have given them. Cheers! read more

Really can't go wrong with this place, ya sure a little pricier than some but really you get what you pay for and that's fresh and incredibly tasty sushi and sashimi...YUM!!! But with a few tables full and a few people in for take out, we couldn't get what we needed without constantly waiting...side plate, more napkins, a fork, a side of spicy sauce. My roll had hard rice, sunomono hard with little flavour, hard yakisoba noodles. The miso was nice and the appy sashimi was generous and fresh tasting.
