I haven't been here before so it could be that the chef is a bit heavy handed in the seasoning today. The seasoning on the noodles is perfect. The beef is tender, the noodle is soft and chewy and the bean sprout provides a nice chew. There are few free underground parking spots available. read more

Finally got a chance to try the place again after they tore the old location down and rebuilt the entire building a while back. Parking on the property doesn't seem to exist anymore. Street parking it is. Plenty of spots on the side streets. The place is nice and modern. Pretty hilarious artwork on the premises. Especially the astronaut. Cough. Staff are friendly. They seem to be Cantonese speaking. They still have their nice big bubble tea selection (I didn't try this time), and a decent Taiwanese food selection. I had their numb & spicy hot pot. Decent, though it doesn't come with any side dishes. Also it does not have the Sichuan flavour. The pepper mix is noticeably more plain. Something to keep in mind. Still tasty though. Local Taiwanese restaurant frequented by students and families in the nearby neighbourhood. We went at 6pm on a weekday. The restaurant was busy but large enough to get a seat right away. Quick and casual, you can order using QR code for your table or just tell the server your order. Portion sizes are moderate, price is $17-20 per dish. We were surprised by the size of the fried tofu "side" in the combo ACD, expecting 3-5 pieces of tofu, but they seemed to have served a full size portion. I visited the place with a friend from work,we ordered pork dish with peanuts,tofu etc,we actually came for the mango float drink with a floating cookie bear, unfortunately the cookoe is still in the oven and isually sold out as per the waiter, one of the most ordered in this place, instead of waiting we settled for the drink without the bear. Ambiance is more of an Asian comminity, dominated with people from Taiwan.Noise level when I was there was above average(one baby is crying at the other table) Service was fast and not a a problem. We had no single complaints with what we ordered, serving is pretty generous Good for group and kids too,accept cash and card. I remember the old version of this place before the new building went up. Now, new place is clean, spacious. Free underground parking which is nice. Service was friendly. Main problem is the food. Drinks were fine, nothing spectacular but pretty average. No problem really. But the food itself was disappointing. Popcorn chicken under seasoned. With the steak combo, excessive amounts of rice and not much else, bit of shredded cabbage and cucumber slices. Tomato sauce for the steak combo was also super bland. All of this would be fine if prices were lower. But for $18-20 per dish/drink combo, they need to up their game. Maybe increase the quality and variety of the sides, less rice. Fine tune the food a bit more. It's ok to have smaller portions. Just make the food better. read more

Everything was refreshing, modern and clean. The same business owner started to run the restaurant here again! Welcome back!! Tonight, my family and I had dinner here. The restaurant was super busy with many customers. People came here for dinner or ordered takeout. It was crazy busy for the newly opened restaurant. We tried their bubble tea, fried chicken nuggets, fried octopus, hot pot, hainan chicken and etc. They were great! We hope to come back and try something else. I just ordered a beef roll, and is a little too sweet, too much sauce, the slices of beef is a little too big, and the pancake is a little burnt. We arrived around dinner time on a Friday night. The service is fine. They refilled our tea regularly . The food and drinks were average. Prices are ok - $17-$18 per dish. They have combos that come with a drink. We ordered Combo A and D. Popcorn chicken was decent but the rice was really hard. The Singapore vermicelli was ok. Lots of large prawns . The lemon tea was really bad. I would stick with the hot drinks but stay away from the cold drinks. Cup was pretty small but $1 more than the hot drinks. The lemon tea was tasteless with no sugar. They didn't even give me syrup to sweeten the drink until they saw me putting white sugar into my drink. Business was steady. Don't think I'll be back. Food wasn't great. read more

Did you know E.Tea spot/cafe bubble tea restaurant is open again? This spot on Rupert st, and 22nd ave in Vancouver was quite popular back in the day before it was under a condo building. It still is quite popular as guest are coming back for the nostalgia, cheap and affordable Taiwanese food and bubble tea. We got classic popcorn chicken on rice, I love the Taiwanese version of salt and peppery deep fried chicken nuggets. The chicken was good with white rice and some veggies of cucumber and kimchi to keep it refreshing. Otherwise it's a staple on this metal wok plate. I like their mix and match combo I think we did A+C+D combo which we got the laksa rice spaghetti noodle soup. I like the thick rice noodles in this soup, cooked nicely and with bean sprouts and cilantro. The laksa soup was okay. Not the best soup more like a instant soup base and oily, but you know it's cheap here. I really like the meat I got with it which is the deep fried squid tentacles, which were really good! Taiwanese/bubble tea restaurant that's open late night. We came here originally because Golden Oscar is closed on Tuesdays. It turned out well. Food is decent. I had the curry beef brisket on rice stone bowl. It was glico curry, generous portion of beef, with potato and onion on rice. There were pieces of the onion skin in there, which you can't really chew. The stone bowl wasn't very hot either; I look forward to crisping the rice on the inside but couldn't here. At least it kept the meal warm. Service was slow. One friend's meal took much longer than everyone else's (it wasn't even a baked dish). We were seated in a corner, and were never checked on. We asked for the bill several times before just standing up to go pay. Cleanliness isn't great. The washroom area is messy with stuff everywhere. This is your "middle of the road" bubble tea joint that is located in East Van, where no other place is really open that also serves a good selection of food. Right next to the 7-11 at Rupert and 22nd Avenue, the place is a fair size, not a bad looking place once you enter. Just remember, if your in a pack of 4 coming to this place, you may want to take the table with the seperate chairs, as the booths are small! They have your standard bubble tea mixes with various teas, some fresh fruit drinks, but what they have here is also food, not just snacks, but meals. Not your average, put in the mini-oven, or microwave it and serve it, but this place does have a full kitchen. I have not been here in years, and now I have been here twice in one week, once for a late night stop off place to chat, another time for some morning grub. This place is not expensive at all, cheap, since it is East Vancouver, the drinks are a very resonable price, and the food is cheap too. They have breakfast specials, before 11:30 AM daily, so you can have combo meals with a drink. You can have your A + B combo, with a drink, with selection that you will not see at night, from congee, to eggs and meat (spam, bacon, sausage, etc), and many more that you would usually see in an HK Cafe. The parking situation is good, as it is a big lot, and they have a tv that is usually on 'the score' so you can get you sports updates. TLDR: some things are better than others, can be very hit and miss. I've been a few times so I have a few recommendations: The drinks have all been very good, and there is a deal past 9pm where you can get the bubble tea with the meals for cheap. What I liked: 1) The fish with eggplant with rice. The dish comes with it's own separate pot kept warm by a candle. The fish portion is generous and the eggplants are well done. Lots of sauce to mix with the rice!! 2) The black pepper chicken stir fry. The most was juicy and tender. The whole thing was strong and well seasoned. The not as good: 1) The fried chicken steak on rice. The meat wasn't well seasoned, was dry, and the portion isn't very good. Some of my friends said it's better than the one at Bubble World and some said it's not. Decent place for a late night dinner. Arrived at E Tea around 8:50pm. Wasn't properly served until 9:10pm. The restaurant was pretty busy for a Thursday night but our server did her best to stay calm and get our order. I recommend trying their deep fried squid tentacles and spicy chicken with rice. One note about the restaurant is that they don't accept credit card unless you're buying enough food equivalent to $25. This is either going to be a good experience or not. They have the best Jasmine green milk tea PERIOD! It's the perfect balance of tea and creaminess and sweetness. The Jasmine fragrant compliments it well. It's heavenly with pearls. I usually get their Dan Dan noodle combo with deep fried chicken nuggets. The Dan Dan is more soupy than normal and it tastes more like peanut butter. The popcorn chicken is delish and I love the little pickled cabbage that comes with it! Comfort food at its best. If you go before 9pm you can pick one of several drinks. During my most current visit my husband and I had the laksa soup combo with regular noodles and popcorn fish. The popcorn fish was very soft on the inside, crisp on the outside... But super salty!!! All I got was some milk tea, since I didn't have super long to wait. There weren't many people there, but it was an off time. I feel like the only reason why I come here is because it's literally a four minute drive from my house... The bubble tea is often watered down and the soups are not amazing. I've had much better food and bubble tea elsewhere. However, I do like the thai chicken fried rice which is a big enough portion to eat half for dinner and half for lunch the next day. Also, if you order betwen 11am - 9pm, you get a free drink depending on what you order, but it's only a small selection of teas that are free (oolong, milk tea, etc). The prices are reasonable for what you get and it's open late which is convenient.... but If I had to tell you my idea of an actual bbt place that's REALLY worth the money, this place wouldn't make the cut. read more

They accommodated our party of ten by the window. The people who brought us here said "it's not the best, but it's convenient". Thanks... But I have to agree. Size for price: 5 Variety: 4 Spaghetti Bolognaise: 2. The spaghetti was overcooked, and the sauce tasted like it came out of a cheap can. At least it was on the value menu... They never thought to give me a fork (though I guess could have asked), so I ate it with chopsticks. Noodle Soup: 3. Both Tom Yum (or was it Kah?) soup and Laksa soup were really good. The Noodle (we both picked the regular) seemed like it was overcooked, but, fortunately (?), it was one of those cheap ones that don't get any worse with time. We got the "choose 3 toppings" ones, and I think about four pieces each of wonton, prawn, fish balls is a fair amount. They have specials on some teas (plain, milk, lemon) with the order of soup noodle, fried rice and some other entrees. The milk green tea was great for counteracting my spicy Laksa, but would have been too sweet on its own. One thing worth mentioning is that they accept Debit/Credit. Parking wasn't hard to find when the bakery and beauty parlour were closed, but really hard when they were open. read more

* Nice people, but the product quality is low * Popped in for a quick lunch. Had the Taiwanese beef noodle soup, which came on special with a milk tea with pearls. The server was super friendly and brought over some complimentary roasted peanuts while waiting. The milk tea was a bit watery and the pearls were a bit overcooked. The soup was different than many Taiwanese beef noodle soups I've had elsewhere. Something about the broth just didn't seem right. It was a bit too clear - as if it had been made with some sort of a powder instead of making their own stock. There were some extra things added which you also don't frequently find, like broccoli and cilantro. The beef wasn't particularly tender, and reminded me more of a thick roasted beef that was a bit overcooked and not very tender rather than the stewed tender type I'm more used to. The noodles were WAY overcooked and turned almost to mush as eating the soup. Overall not a great job on this at all. They do have free wifi and very friendly service - otherwise this probably would be a 1 star for me. The quality of the food and drinks just don't warrant a return anytime soon for me. I used to enjoy this place quite a lot, but since I moved to Burnaby its been a few months since i've last visited here. However, this time I was quite disappointed. Not sure if its under new management or the quality has just gone down. When I got seated, my table was clearly dirty yet the sever didn't do wipe it until we mentioned it. He also just stood around the cashier for a good fifteen minutes or so before we were finally able to catch his attention and call him over just to take our orders. I ordered the good ol' Thai chicken fried rice (my fav!) and I tried a peach bubble tea. I was quite disappointed at the fried rice, it was really wet and the cook forgot to add green onions - I know thats not a big deal, but its about consistency. When I order something I've tried before, I expect it to taste and be presented in the same way. The flavor still packs a punch in the dish, however, because the fried rice was still wet it felt like mush in my mouth. Texture plays an important role. Does bubble tea really mean bubbles in my tea? Because half my glass was foam. However the drink itself was quite pleasant. Only wish my glass was full. The menu heavily favored HK style items such as mixed grill, baked rice, curry fishball, etc. For me, the bar for any type of BBT joint is the quality of their popcorn chicken rice, therefore, i ordered a serving and my friend ordered a curry fishball. As i expected, the chicken was GREAT, it was fresh from the fryer as it was still crispy and hot as heck. Served with a good portion of rice and pickled cabbage, peanuts, etc. The chicken was spiced very nicely, something i vividly remember from my last visit. And lets talk about that fishball, holy crap, it was spicy, and its the good kind of spicy. Lots of kick, lots of sauce, and good portion size for appy. For drinks, I ordered a fresh mango slush, it was honestly pretty good. You could taste the fresh mango, the natural sweetness of the fruit instead of the syrup that some places put. i thought the pricing for everything was fair, and was a great way to end the night @ 12am. The noodles were a bit overcooked but other than that, it was really good and HUGE. I think the serving was enough for 2 people. I will never eat here again! Rude service!! Found hair in my rice and after showing it to the manager he didn't seem shocked about it at all. When we were gonna get the bill I asked to not get charged and he went up to the table and said I'll give you half off and walked away. Their food isn't bad and their bubble tea is pretty good. On top of that, they do a good job of complying with what the customers ask for (e.g., less sugar, less salt, etc.). Their pricing, while not expensive, I would say is a bit on the high end for the portions they serve. It's also a hassle to wave down the servers when you need something. They don't have their heads up, so getting their attention becomes a chore (they're pleasant and friendly though, just not as alert or aware). E Tea is a good place to hang out with friends on a late night or get your bubble tea fix. But if you're looking for the best bang for your buck, you should probably look elsewhere. read more
