The restaurant is pretty spacious and the food prices are on the higher side. We came on a Monday at around 6 pm and the restaurant was empty. The noodle dishes were close to $20 each. When my rice noodles came, the portion size looks quite big so I thought it's really good value. Then the mantaiko udon came and the size was half of my rice noodles. The flavor is not bad. Can't believe this resto has been here for ages but it's just our first time here today. It's tucked in a busy corner of Hazelbridge Way & Alexandra Road, quite unassuming though. It's very quiet inside. It has a wide selection of Chinese and Taiwanese dishes you can find in any HK cafes around Richmond. However, it may be done with a little bit of personal touch in my opinion. From what I gather, it's a family business with father as the cook and daughter in front. She recommended a veggie dish that she said her father "won't cook unless the veggies are nice and fresh." We took her recommendation and true enough, 四季豆 bean dish was excellent. You can never go wrong at a classic Taiwanese bbtea cafe! I haven't been back to Well Tea for ages and it's so nice to see some familiar favourite menu items like the Seafood Milk Hotpot and Chicken Nuggets! They taste just as good as I remembered! The Satay Shredded Pork Fried Noodle was a new one for me and I'd prefer a little more meat to the dish and the noodle did seemed more like instant noodles so I think I would skip that dish next time. Been to this place several times before but I don't come often because the parking situation is far from ideal. They share a small lot with a bunch of other businesses in a small complex, so it's really hard to find parking. That aside, the food & drinks offered here are of the standard Taiwanese bubble tea cafe style. I've tried a bunch of dishes here before and most of them are average in taste - not bad but not great either. Large open space with lots of tables, pretty good for big groups. Was recommended by a friend who comes here often to eat. Came in and noticed a refreshing spa like smell when coming in the door (I wonder if it was someone's perfume), but it was refreshing. The decor of the place is great, as it has a zen like feel, from the elevated floor, to the glass panels with the strips of green bambo with a backing of white rocks to emphasize the green. It's a very comfortable place for a place that serves bubble tea, but also serves some pretty good food. Located in the plaza on Alexandra and Hazelbridge, this place doesn't look like much on the outside, but when you enter the place, it's a whole different story. The first of the chains 3 restaurants so far, I have heard about this place, but never came to eat here till now. I was pleasantly surprised at the food. The seating area is very spacious, and not crammed, like some other restaurants. The table even has an electronic buzzer like button if you need to call over the server, or just want the bill. I ordered the spicy beef hotpot, and it came quite quickly, probably because I kept talking to my friend, and didn't notice the time of day. A little presentable pot, topped off with raw spinach, and served with a side of satay sauce (for dipping) and white rice. I must say this was real good, for about $10 and your done, this meal filled me up, as they had enough vegetables, beef, and spice (as I was sweating). I found that they give relatively big portions of food for the amount you're paying for which isn't that much to be honest. Hooray for late night Asian spots with free wifi, free parking, and diverse menus! I've been here a number of times now and it's a great spot to chill and converse with friends and family. My cousins and I got there at 9pm on a Friday night and there were plenty of tables free. We found parking right away too. I got 東坡肉. It was good in the beginning but got a bit salty towards the end. It had nice combination of layers: skin, fat, lean meat. The texture was very nice. I come here a lot just for their iron Buddha milk tea! It used to be the only game in town for specialty milk teas as most places just had oolong and regular black tea milk teas. Now that a lot more places have opened up with lots of tea options I come a lot less often. But when I'm with a large group I come here because they have great food options and space for large groups! Other than their bubble teas I really enjoy their hot pot options! Their milk seafood hot pot is really nice and their spicy beef hot pot is another good one! Service does lack just a little and they seem to run out of stuff (like pearls and even my go to drink option iron Buddha tea this one time) a lot which is a pain and just in general long time to get things we ask for. Not that it's a deal breaker but hence the lower stars. I really come here mostly for nostaglia sake. If it's great bubble tea I crave there are better places. read more

Wow how do you mess up deep fried foods and simple Taiwanese food? So I came here for their box toast and left... with no box toast in my tummy. Very sad. In all fairness the server did say it would take 20-25minutes, but I waited 45 and still no toast so I had to leave, no biggie but the other food ticked me off. Had the deep fried chicken skin and the sweet and sour pork combo that came with three SMALL dishes, which were smaller than Korean SMALL dishes by the way. Chicken skin was severly burnt from over-frying and it was so salty, beyond belief. It's pretty hard to mess up deep frying chicken skin ok? The sweet and sour pork was probably the worst I've ever had, even worse than the sweet and sour pork I tried in texas.. can you imagine? The pork was boiled and thrown into a presumably canned or bottled sauce. Ew. Anyways so we waited for the toast and waited, gulping down water and tea to counter the salt overload. And we waited again and asked at the 30 minute point and the girl said, it'll be around 10 minutes. So we wait. And 15 minutes later... um where's my toast I have to go. And she runs and check and comes back with a toast that is... not for my table... great. I'm a bit reluctant though to not have eaten the toast because I saw the "cook" bring out an unprepared toast, cut it in the middle of the dining room with his bare hands and a knife and throw it on a possibly unsanitized table. We always order the sukiyaki hotpot and fried rice with deep fried chicken nuggets which the kids really enjoy (watch out for the huge dose of MSG in the nuggets). We are sometimes disappointed when we stray from our favorites. Service could be better. They should have more servers that are more attentive. I use to enjoy some of the food here and the malt milk tea a few years back for casual lunch with friends when we are short on time, recently I tried their food again and regret to report that the quality of their food has downgraded to a 2/5 from a 3.5/5...the food tasted very mediocre and actually didn't agree with my stomach, not sure if the ingredients they use are perfectly fresh. I used to frequent Well Tea with college friends back in 2006-07 when I was new to Richmond but gradually lost interest as I explored more of the city. Recently I've rediscovered the place as I was looking for somewhere to take my partner for a midnight snack one night. Admittedly we have not tried too many menu items; only maybe 1 out of 5 of our visits have been for dinner. We usually get chicken nuggets and sausage, which are pretty hard to mess up, and the Ovaltine toast is rather nice as well. I enjoy the fact that some of their hot teas are served in tea pots. My partner likes their aloe and passionfruit teas. We've also had hotpots, and some of their set meals for dinner - not spectacular but good familiar flavors. I tried the fried chicken skin once and it didn't seem to have spent enough time in the fryer as is was not crunchy and very greasy (or perhaps the oil was not hot enough?). It was a bit unpalatable but the serving was also quite large and I ended up bringing the remaining 1/3 of it home but of course fried things don't usually make good leftovers. The service can be hit or miss. At least once we had gotten more than halfway through the meal and drinks still have not arrived, or that one of the entrees - usually mine, as fate has it - comes out way too long after the first one does. Sometimes the servers do not notice my waving for their attention, even though the place is never full when we go (odd because come to think of it, the place always seemed to be packed in my uni days). One large improvement though is that they have started taking debit cards as of maybe two months ago. They also have wifi and it's not unusual to see people with their computers there. All that said, we are regulars and will continue to be as Well Tea makes a good quiet spot for a lazy post-dinner drink and bite. read more

This place could easily be a 4 to 5 stars. The food here is actually quite good and always made fresh. The drinks are good too, and especially the hot ones they come in large pots. I usually get their hotpot selection and the crispy chicken starter snack. It's always consistant and tasty especially the tomato beef broth. The only problem is with their service, it is extremely slow on the server side and extremely slow on the food coming out side too. Well Tea is one of the more pricier options for bubble tea in Richmond. And while many people I know have said that they were great when they first opened, I had a pretty bad experience with them recently. Can't really speak for the rest of the menu, but definitely give their slushes a pass. Their strawberry slush was extremely bland and was essentially just crushed ice with just enough flavouring to change the colour. 3.5 Stars. The service is pretty standard for a bubble tea place, but the atmosphere is by far the best part. Bright and colorful. We came around midnight and got the slush, mango green tea, and a condensed milk toast. My slush was pretty good, but I ended up trading with my bf who claimed that the mango green tea he got was too tart/bitter. I loved that they used actual fruit in our drinks, as opposed to the powdery junk you get sometimes. We didn't get any entrees, but saw that a couple seated close to us got hot pot. Well Tea located on Hazelbridge in Richmond is a bubble tea (BBT) shop offering a large selection of tea drinks and meal choices... Rice, noodles, snacks, hot pot sukiyaki, etc... The space is large with tables and booth seats... Well lit with Chinese music playing in the background (as with most BBT places) Deep fried pork in red fermented sauce in noodle soup $7.95 What is red fermented sauce? It is basically red fermented bean curd preserved in rice win and other seasonings used to add flavor and for braising. The deep fried pork marinated in red fermented sauce is rich in flavor with a crunchy exterior and juicy tender center. I wanted to substitute for vermicelli (instead of egg noodles) but was refused because it wasn't on the menu. Funny how I swear I saw that as a choice if I ordered a mix-and-match soup noodle. Clearly my English is terrible! Or perhaps re-learn Chinese. Anyways, some things are not worth arguing about. Fried Pork Steak with black pepper sauce $8.50 This meal set comes with a plate of fried pork and black pepper sauce, rice and mini side dishes. The pork itself is well seasoned and isn't too dry much similar to the above just seasoned slightly different. The unfortunate thing was Amy found a long piece of hair in her pork... That was a bit of a turn off to say the least! BBT are all around the $5 point and sizes are generous. Lychee Green Tea I like how it wasn't super sweet and doesn't have that artificial flavoring or sour after taste. Wheat Germ Milk Tea A well crafter wheat germ with actual wheat germ flakes... I enjoyed the thick richness of this drink that wasn't just powdered base. Well Tea is a great hang out place especially after dinner, when you don't feel like consuming alcohol and/or you have nowhere to go. I'm sad at the fact that they also opened one at UBC and another on Seymour downtown after I left... But for all your working folks streets of downtown Vancouver and need something new to try, this is not a bad choice! read more

Well Tea in my opinion, is more of a restaurant for bringing your friends to have a chat and just enjoy your favourite bubble tea. Drinks (3.5/5): they is a variety of different bubble teas, fruit juices, slush and many more. I love how they have a selection of toppings instead of your old, regular, black tapioca pearls. Though some drinks may be too sweet (ie. passion fruit black/green tea), in my opinion. Food (2.5/5): As for the food, I find that there aren't anything that really stands out or special. Some of the set menus and snacks are very alike to Pearl Castle. I don't really have a taste comparison with this restaurant except for it doesn't taste amazingly good but it's also not bad as well. The food is edible and some of the set menus are quite filling. Prices (2.5/5): I find the drinks to be quite pricey since you also have to pay for service charge and hst and what not.
