This time, I decided to level up and chose medium spice... a decision my taste buds are still discussing. The chef was very generous with the sauce and chilis this time. When they say medium, they don't mean "a little kick"... they mean "welcome to the chili party." The dish came with so many chilis that I started wishing there was a little more rice to help balance the heat. We had the popcorn chicken, the stir fried bok choy, the sha cha chao mian with lamb (the anglicized name for this on the menu is "signature ancestral herbal satay with fried noodles), and the noodle soup with beef brisket and tomato. For three people, this was the perfect amount of food for a hearty dinner. Our favorites were definitely the popcorn chicken and the noodle soup. The popcorn chicken was perfectly and delicately fried, SO JUICY on the inside, and seasoned just right with a lovely basil aroma. The noodles were toothsome and swimming in a gorgeous broth with the most tender beef. Stir fried bok choy is pretty standard but definitely a must if you want really any vegetables in this meal. Sha cha chao mian with lamb was good -- lamb was perfectly cooked, very tender. The noodles themselves are nice but the flavor is a bit one dimensional. Service here is really good. Honestly, a top place for taiwanese cuisine. During peak times, beware of long waits, and there are plenty of alcohol options here. The inside is a quirky vibe, with plenty of interesting decor, which was cool. I have been here plenty of times, and the quality is very consistent. The number one thing here is the popcorn chicken, it really sets a high bar and is the best I have ever tasted. It is light and crispy on the outside with delicious seasoning and when you bite in, juices flood your mouth and you taste tender chicken. But besides that the reason I gave it four stars and if I could I would have given it four and a half is because a lot of the other food is average this such as the appetizer platter. This is a Taiwanese place in Richmond and I love the interior design of this place! This is also the restaurant my girlfriend frequents a lot when she used to be in Vancouver, and the food quality has been consistent while prices have significantly increased. Even then, the food total is still a fraction of the cost of dining out in the US so it is still good priced in my books. We walked in around 8pm without a wait and got seated at a 2-top facing the wall. A lot of ambience is removed as a result as we were confined in a side of the restaurant. You scan the QR code to place the order, so we got the popcorn chicken, fried pork chop combo, and shrimp omelet. The popcorn chicken is nicely spiced and decently salted, and it is one of the better ones out there. The fried pork chop is similarly flavorful but with hints of sweetness to it. The combo comes with a large bowl of rice and some vegetables, which are honestly a bit underwhelming but a good addition to round out the meal. The shrimp omelet is interesting as it was super chewy, so it felt more like a glutinous pancake than an omelet that is purely egg and shrimp. Service is fairly hands off as expected for these restaurants, but it would have been nice if they actually refilled the teapot that they served us since we were thirsty. Kids love their popcorn chicken so we went mid-day even though we weren't super hungry. Maybe that's where we went wrong. Ordered what I thought was a good amount of food, two orders of the popcorn chicken, one was a combo with soup, rice and 3 side dishes, noodle soup, and a dry noodle dish. Was told that I needed to order another dish even though there was four items and I had a couple young kids in my party of five. Ended up ordering another item to meet their request and then had to take the leftovers with us. They may have some policies in place, but should also have a human element to their approach. Hands down the best Taiwanese spot for a taste of Taiwan and a definite place to try for bubble tea. I literally felt like i travelled to ASIA when i stepped foot in this restaurant. Little to no wait time for a table and food was very generously big portioned and wallet friendly! Service is great, servers could understand and speak no issues at all. Coming into memory corner is like stepping into the alleys of old Taiwan, with it's extensive decoration giving it a very "local" and nostalgic vibe. There aren't too many seats, so on busy days, the wait can be quite long, however it is well worth it. The food is fairly authentic and delicious. The popcorn chicken is their speciality, and definitely lives up to the hype; the skin is very crispy and fluffy in texture with a soft inside. The beef roll and spicy wonton had just the right flavour and nothing seems to be overly greasy or heavy, including the lu ruo fan (which is usually a very heavy dish). Very good Taiwanese food and bubble tea/slushies. Came here on a Thursday after work. Keep in mind that the close for an hour in the middle of the day (closed between 3pm - 4pm). I was one of the first customers after they opened at 4pm. It was basically just me and this one other table. The atmosphere and decor is interesting. It's like you've stepped into a outside street in China. The random brick pillars, tables, chairs, and metal teapot added to the uniqueness of the restaurant. At first I was lost as to what to do. Apparently you're supposed to scan their barcode on the table and order through that. This was new to me, as Covid is now over, but they still kept several things from that period of time (signs, to markings). Anyways onto the good stuff . . . The food is good. I ordered the friend rice with deep fried chicken nuggets, the deep fried squid tentacles and a lychee slush with coconut jelly. The rice was good, it had a "wok hey" flavour to it, not overly charred but noticable. I'd recommend you mix the chicken into the rice though, as if you eat them both desperately the chicken does have a salty aftertaste to it. The costing on it was good, light and crispy. Same with the squid tentacles. I actually enjoyed the tentacles more then the chicken, even though they seem to be the same coating just with an added spice. The lychee slushy was especially good. I paid $0.75 to add coconut jelly. I don't regret this decision at all. I was basically still chewing on them up to my last sip. Surprising as if you got this any other place, the jelly would have disappeared long ago. I also ordered regular sugar, and it wasn't overly sweet. So I highly recommend the drinks here. There is only a paper and pen wait list system, and you have to stick around after putting your name down as I was told the employees will skip over your party if you're not at the restaurant when called. It would be nice to have a call back option. Besides that inconvenience, the food was delicious. We ordered the beef brisket and tomato noodles, Taiwanese popcorn chicken, beef rolls, and two set combos. The set combos had quite a bit rice included; my friends ended up sharing one portion of rice together and taking the extra to go. Finally made it to this cool funky place for decent Taiwanese food. Interior is nice, reminds you of dining in an outdoor patio in Asia with all of the decorations. Food is solid, a bit premium in price especially for their appetizers compared to their entrees but still okay. Service is good albeit not overly warm and friendly. The pork was really fatty in a good way and well seasoned but it was missing that pickled veggie to balance the fattiness of the pork. The rice was way too wet. The popcorn chicken was very dry and disappointing. The outside isn't very crispy. The only good part about this dish was the amount of basil they give. Three Cups Stewed Oil Tofu with Rice: This dish was my choice and definitely not something my daughter would have chosen but she ended up loving this dish. She said if we ever come back to this restaurant she'd like to have an order of this same dish all to herself! Earl Grey Milk Tea: My daughter chose this one. While I've had plenty of Earl Grey throughout my life, this was my first time (and hers as well) having a cold Earl Grey Milk Tea. She made a good choice! Came here from a friend's recommendation and it's now a new favorite spot! FOOD: 1. Beef noodle tomato soup - 10/10! My favorite item that we ordered. The beef is SO tender and the broth was comforting :) I really enjoyed this dish a lot and actually came back again for this dish. 2. Seafood Crispy fried noodles pot - I liked the broth but honestly I was not a fan of the crispy fried noodles because the texture of the noodles sort of felt like tiny sponges! Definitely something different from the usual noodles and I can see how some people may enjoy it but personally for me it wasn't my favorite. Good broth and seafood though! And very decent portions. 3. Braised pork over rice - This was my parents favorite. The sauce drenches the rice which not a lot of places do this. Most places I've been to have pretty minimal sauce on over their rice so this was delicious because of the sauciness. Pork was also very well braised and delicious! 4. Chili wonton - Decent appetizer! Honestly it had a good kick of spice but it wasn't a flavorful kick if you know what I mean.
