Happy Day on 1450-4771 McClelland Road, Richmond. I have not been visited this cafe at least 4 months. I don't usually go to the one in Vancouver. I like the chefs who prepare the chicken noodle soup, the clubhouse sandwich and the chicken with rice from which I am not able to find these three dishes in any restaurant especially the noodles and clubhouse sandwich! Ambiance is nice as usual and we are lucky to just wait about 10 minutes to get a booth but if we don't mind to join the half booth, we could be settled in at any time
Looking for a quick bite with variety of options, this is a good place to eat. Service was quick and friendly and plenty of options. Happy Day Cafe really brings me back to my childhood growing up in SF. It reminds me a lot of ABC which was another Hong Kong style cafe in the sunset that closed down during covid :(. Came here on a Sunday morning around 9:30am and there was no wait! They have the traditional breakfasts like pineapple buns with egg, macaroni and ham, and milk toast. Cash only or debit. They don't take USD afaik and I'm only mentioning because some spots that say cash only Will also take USD. Parking lot, quick service, and lively ambiance. Would come again!
We stopped by to try this Hong Kong café. Parking was free, which was nice. We waited about 15 minutes since it was lunch rush. The place had a cozy vibe and the service was upbeat. We got pineapple bun with butter, milk tea, coffee & tea, shrimp chow fun, and pork chop with seafood casserole. Food was tasty and drinks were good. There was a mix-up with our order, but we just went with it. Overall, still a fun experience and glad we checked it out!
Just recently this Saturday I decided to take the family, and some friends to dinner with one of their set 'crab' meals with a few plates. I have always had a good experience with the Vancouver location so I wondered how the Richmond one would do and I have to say we had a great time. We did call to have a reservation for our 9 person crew on this night. We also decided on their 3 crabs, and 5 dishes of our choice which came out to around $240, not bad, especially in this economy. It seems like we weren't the only ones coming for this deal, as every table had at least one crab at their eating disposal. So we had the crabs deep fried and prepared in salted duck egg yolk, and ordered a few dishes, like sweet and sour pork, satay beef with vermicelli, roasted chicken with shrimp chips, broccoli and egg tofu, and stir fried baby bok choy and usually at these dinners there is something usually to pack, but I can say that all the food was demolished, and enjoyed, no complaints, as the food was pretty good. Even the three crabs were all gone, and it was enough food for 7 adults and 2 children. The service was pretty good even though they looked to be short a staff member, as the ones working were really hustling on this night with every table packed, and everytime they came to our table they were very curtious. All the dishes came right at once, and the seating was pretty comfortable for what this restaurant is. I really have no complaints and would gladly come again for a casual dinner. The prices are fair, there's a good amount of parking in this complex, and there's a good amount of variety on the menu. We also ordered a few cups of lemon ice tea, which I have to say, they make a really good one. Just a note, they only take cash and debit, no credit card.
This is a Chinese style restaurant/diner. We came here to charge our car and came across this restaurant while we waited. We came here for breakfast and I ordered the fried steak with eggs, hash browns and ham. My husband ordered the fried fish with eggs and French toast. My son got the spanish omlette with toast. The food came out fast and was actually quite good. It was a little on the greasy side for me, but I enjoyed it. One last note: Make sure you bring cash or debit card. They do not take credit cards!
Solid HK cafe in a Richmond shopping center near Walmart. Setting- large, modern interior Service- friendly, fast and efficient Food- very good! Pork chop was tender and well flavored. Tomato broth is probably the best I've had - very rich and tomatoey versus the watery kinds I've had in other places. Portions were very generous. Bonus - parking was very easy at the center. Will come back for future visits!
This location is fairly large and we luckily didn't need to wait long for a table. I love the cafe style dishes and the cozy ambiance of this place. I enjoyed my bolo bao sandwich very much and the accompanying milk tea was perfect.

Happy Day Cafe is now my goto Hong Kong cafe in the Richmond area. Their Hong Kong milk tea tasted authentic, which goes a long way from others. They do tend to give generous portions without compromising the taste quality of their dishes. It's an excellent Hong Kong Chinese family diner.
I heard about the bad reputation of this place before. But I was charging my car nearby and I was hungry so I went there for breakfast. I ordered the minced beef congee with sticky rice in leaves. The congee is nowhere like the traditional one. It looks like they chopped the beef into chunks instead of minced. The congee is not hot enough to cook the beef thoroughly. Both items are bland. Even the sticky rice comes with soy sauce but the sauce doesn't taste good. Maybe they're trying to be healthy. Definitely will not go there again.
We were meeting friends for breakfast in Richmond, we have been to the usual cafe like Lido Restaurant & decided to try some where else. There's several location for Happy Day Cafe, this one in Richmond is situated along Alderbridge Road, inside the mall opposite Walmart. The restaurant has ample seats, it is huge compared to Lido Restaurant. We were there at 9.30am on a Sunday morning & the place was filling fast. Extensive breakfast menu with a choice of typical HK breakfast items & a Western style breakfast items. The portions are a substantial size, it is a typical HK breakfast, flavour is decent- no WOW factor. The congee, rice roll & noodle are well flavoured. I loved their HK style hot milk tea. It was rich & on point. Check it out if you can, prices are very decent, our combo of congee & noodle/ congee & beef rice roll was $14.95 each. Servers were busy, but they were polite & respond quickly when we ask for a refill of tea
Located in the plaza with Walmart - Plenty of parking all over - however pay attention to reserved spots as well as time restricted spots. Service was your typical Chinese/HK breakfast - not good/ not bad they are just to the point. Server was quick and attentive this time and didn't give us attitude which was a bonus! We arrived pretty early in the day, so it wasn't too busy - so it was quiet and you could easily have a conversation - no music what so ever , so could be a little dull feeling. Got the OG breakfast - the pineapple bun was alright - not on par with LIDO however still fresh and soft tasting ! , Don't forget to add that butter ;) How can you go wrong with spam and eggs? - well I felt like my egg could of been cooked a slight bit longer , as it was a bit challenging to get it off the plate in one piece , also it could use some salt and pepper , as it came plain as day. Oh it came with your drink of choice - got a hot coffee milk tea - tasted really bad ! So didn't end up finishing the drink. Would go again if in the area - but wouldn't be my first choice.
Stopped here for lunch with my wife on a Sunday. Happy Day Cafe has a few locations and has been around for awhile, but I've never been to one until this visit. We saw that there were groups of people waiting for a table, but since there was only 2 of us, they sat us down right away. The space is pretty nice for a HK cafe. We ordered two mini-sets: - #133 Pan Fried Spaghetti with Black Pepper Beef: Good. It was a good portion size, good flavour and decent wok-hei. Very acceptable. - #148 Shanghai Pan Fried Noodle: Good. Also a good portion size and well prepared. No complaints. We only ate half the food, and took the rest home for dinner. Service was fine for a HK cafe. Pleasant and attentive enough, but constantly in a rush. Very efficient. Overall, I was happy with my meal. It was fast, affordable and filled me up. The room and service was a bit nicer than most HK cafes, and the food was quite good. I would rate 3.5, but a slight edge up because it was remarkably better than the last HK cafe I went to. Solid place for Hong Kong/Chinese style food. Their menu is really big so I feel like you can always try something new each time you go. I got the Hainanese chicken with rice. The chicken was boneless (yay) and they gave a generous amount of sauce. I also like that the rice was not just plain white rice but chicken oil rice. I don't know if all restaurants do that. The pickled vegetables were a nice touch to balance out the greasiness. read more

We come in afternoon, and again at night. Lunch menu is different from dinner! We thought we can order the pineapple bun again during dinner but that is not possible! This place has best milk tea in Vancouver. Parking structure nearby is free and plenty of parking. Walmart is within walking distance if you need anything or just walk off the calories. Best dishes: Pineapple bun with milk tea. You can choose what is inside. We choose beef with sa-cha sauce. read more
I saw that they have the pineapple bun as a sandwich and could not resist. We ordered a bunch of stuff to try: beef brisket noodles, pineapple with corn beef and egg, rice noodle with chinese donut, rice noodle with shrimp, and a lemon honey drink and a lemon iced tea. Beef brisket noodle 2/5: the noodles were a little on the hard side, the beef brisket as well. The broth was okay. The whole bowl of noodles itself looked so underwhelming and it's probably because the whole dish is underwhelming. PLEASE SKIP this! Pineapple bun with corn beef and egg 2/5: the pineapple bun wasn't crispy and sweet on top, and it wasn't pillowy soft. The egg inside the sandwich was like an omelette, folded and fried and it was not good. The corned beef had a few slices and it didn't have good flavor. There were no greens in this and no sauce either. It was just horribly put together. So disappointing. Rice roll with Chinese donut 4/5: this was the best thing that we ordered. The rice roll was a perfect thickness and the Chinese donut was super crispy. They also give you the hoisin sauce and peanut sauce on the side as well as the soy sauce and it was so good altogether. This is a MUST try! Rice roll with shrimp 3/5: although the shrimp was very big, the rice roll was too thick and the sauce couldn't penetrate it to give it flavor. The rice roll was smooth though, but it needed to be less thick. Overall, we didn't enjoy our meal as much as we would like and would likely not come back again. read more

I am hunting for a HK Tsui Wah fish noodle soup copy cat, so I tried Happy Day Cafe since they make a noodle soup with a fish soup base. You can select 2 toppings and a drink for $16.95. Bowl came with 4 fish cake and only 3 fish ball, so that was disappointing. I was surprised at how much vegetable there was. Maybe I am not familiar with this dish, everywhere in Richmond seems to add so much cabbage. The broth was not what I was looking for, a bit overly fishy. My friend ordered corned beef bo luo sandwich and loved it. They said they'd come back for this. Restaurant is cash and debit only. read more
The pineapple bun sandwiches are what this place is known for and they're definitely worth getting. I ordered one with a pork chop inside and it was immensely satisfying to eat. The pork chop was nicely cooked and the bun itself is really fluffy. Good ratio of meat to bun. The baked pork chop rice was the other dish my wife and I shared. It's as tasty as this dish comes, but it's on the small side. What this means though, is there's a good sauce to rice ratio. Oftentimes you're left with too much rice in the dish. The breaded pork cutlet is tender, and I love that it's boneless and precut. Such an easy dish to inhale. Parking is easy to find as this place is located in a strip mall. Service is surprisingly pretty good for a Hong Kong dinner. read more
My nephew was craving for a pineapple bun with butter so we decided to try out this HK style cafe. When we got there, there was a queue outside. We didn't wait long and was able to snag a table within a few minutes. The cafe was modern and comfortable. The breakfast menu had so many options and combinations. I got the pineapple bun with butter with two fried eggs and an iced HK-style milk tea. My family also got satay beef instant noodles, omelette with bacon and spinach and HK style french toast. The pineapple bun was huge! Unfortunately, the bun was cold. The bun was still crusty on the outside though. The iced milk tea was also much larger than the hot milk tea that my mother got. I wish it had more tea flavor though. The french toast seemed to have custard filling instead of peanut butter. It was still tasty though. They seem to nickle and dime everything. They even charged us $1.00 for the waitstaff to write up our order. LOL read more

Food: 4/5 pretty basic Hong Kong food but their menu is so extensive and you can get everything here!!! Everything tasted so good too! VERDICT/VALUE Happy Day Cafe has put its small dingy reputation in the background with bright and modern locations around town and so while they may not be the cheapest in town, they are not a bad choice in the hotly-contested HK-style cafe marketplace. === 2. FOOD Club House Spaghetti ($15.95): you'll need to add $1.75 if you choose a cold drink making this a dish with a noticeable cost. However, they do throw in some yummy shrimp, ham, chicken, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, and a fried egg on top of the noodles! B.L.T. Crispy Bun ($9.50): add $1.50 if you choose a cold drink. The value may not be there, but this is an interesting dish: take a pineapple bun ("bolo bao"), slice it in half, throw in some fried bacon, cheese, tomato, and lettuce and it turns into a small but flavourful snack/dish! Some butter or mayo would help... Fish Soup Noodle ($13.95): add $1.50 if you choose a cold drink. Competing directly with Cattle Cafe and Deer Garden, this is a "me too!" dish, offering nearly the same options. I chose fish tofu and fish balls and it tasted great with the tofu sheets and napa cabbage. It was good, but the soup seems more flavorful at Cattle Cafe. === 3. SERVICE & ENVIRONMENT Not everyone speaks English, but Cantonese and Mandarin worked well. Overall, service was just fine. For COVID, they have put transparent plexiglass on easels between tables. The bright and modern interior is a welcome change from the past. Wheelchairs and baby strollers would potentially be a tight fit in much except the tables at the front. Came for breakfast at 8am on a Wednesday. A couple people were waiting outside just like us before they opened. We ordered and the food came really quickly. We got the pineapple bun set with egg and the C+D set which comes with classic omelette I subbed the toast with french toast and satay beef macaroni The Hong Kong style milk tea was pretty smooth and no bitter flavour at all. Just wished the tea flavour was a little stronger. The pineapple bun was mediocre. It was not as good as ones you can get from like Kam Do bakery. The top wasn't buttery and flaky enough. The omelette was pretty big and came with quite a bit of ham but it was a bit overdone. The french toast wasn't too oily. Pretty standard The satay beef macaroni was what I was looking forward to but unfortunately the satay beef had no satay flavour. Very plain and disappointing Overall wouldn't go for breakfast again. I don't have a lot of experience with HK cafes, but I've been told this is one of the better ones in Vancouver. I came for Thanksgiving lunch and there was a short wait. My party of 4 had to wait 15-20 minutes before we got seated. The inside of the restaurant looks pretty modern. The menu selection is pretty large; I counted at least 10 pages. They have a variety of Chinese and western dishes. My friend who recommended tihs place mentioned that they're known for their crispy top buns sandwiches, which use pineapple buns at the bread. Portions are pretty big here. One friend ordered his own dish, and the three of us shared one app + three entrees and had trouble finishing everything. We shared: Steamed rice roll with fish siu mai ($7.95) - this was a special snack and not on their regular menu. I wasn't a huge fan as the fish siu mai was quite starchy and there was a lot more rice noodle roll than siu ami. Pan fried e-fu noodles ($12.95) - pretty standard but I thought the noodles had a great chewiness to them. Great dish for vegetarians Minced beef and egg over rice ($13.95) - loved this dish! The beef was tender and flavorful. They don't skimp on the sauce either, which went well with the rice Baked shredded chicken and mushroom with spagehetti ($12.95) - didn't try this dish as I don't like cheese, but my other friends said this was good I will be back to try their other dishes! These pandemic really changes us a lot! Even the method to get in the restaurant has changed. Look at Happy day's arrangement! They got a screen capture and temperature measure machine at the entrance, all customer need to do this before entering. I enjoyed this place but obviously the 3 girls who worked the tables are overworked as they were slightly grumpy but fast/delivered. Breakfast items were good. I just didn't like how $2 was tacked onto my combo meal. They tack on another $1 for condensed milk. That's a rip! Pasta noodle with pickled vegetables and pork was tasty Wonton Noodles I did not try Pineapple bun with corned beef and cheese was good in my kid's book. They only take debit. Easy street parking in the outdoor mall area. There is a "La Patisserie" bakery next door which I need to try next time. read more
Late Lunch/ Afternoon Tea @happydaycaferichmond Authentic HK style 1) Baked Pork Chop & Seafood on Rice I choose Iced Lemon Tea. The restaurant has used the strawless sip lid plastic cup. Oh yes, this Baked Pork Chop & Seafood on Rice is scrumptious. On the seafood side, it has a mussel, fish fillet, lots of shrimp , imitation crab stick, squid, mushroom, onions, tomatoes with the rich creamy white sauce. On the pork chop side, it has a piece of deep fried pork chop, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, pineapple with the rich tomato red sauce. The egg fried rice is perfect as you can see each piece of rice is separated. The pork chop is incredibly tender, but unfortunately the deep fried pork chop is not crispy. Baked mozzarella cheese is a bonus on top of the sauce. Iced HK Style Lemon Tea tastes authentic. 2) Club Sandwich with Fries He chooses hot HK style milk tea. It tastes authentic and is served in a ceramic mug. Yes, the Club Sandwich has the chicken steak. It comes with egg, ham, lettuce, tomato, and cheese. It comes with Costco crispy fries. This is my preferred combo for a Club Sandwich. Each set menu is served with a hot drink. If you want to change to a cold drink +$1.50. It's about $32.50 after taxes. A good place to go with large groups of people! I heard this place gets quite popular, but we came on a weekend night at a earlier dinner time and were seated immediately despite having a large party. Would highly recommend this place if you're looking to order multiple large dishes family style, and want to indulge with delicious traditional Cantonese dishes. Happy Day Cafe offers a really good package deal for lobster and duck for large parties, so I would definitely opt for that. One of my favorite dishes was the vermicelli dish and the salted fish fried rice. The food was overall very comforting and homey for me. My boyfriend also really enjoyed the roasted duck , which comes with wraps, lettuce, roasted duck skin and a type of cooked/mixed duck meat dish for you to eat as a wrap. I believe this restaurant is known for that so if you need to choose something to order, I would go for that. They also give complimentary dessert and soup which is such a nice way of rounding out the meal. Baked cheese & bolognese sauce w/ spaghetti (mine) 8/10, $13.95: The sauce had a good balance of the meat & tomato flavour, and it's not overly cheesy for me. The sauce mixed in with the spaghetti nicely, and the noodles were pretty chewy. The only improvement is that they should add more meat pieces to this dish, but otherwise I liked it! If you want a cold or large drink you have to pay extra! Soup is also a great add on too cause it's only another $3. Portions are not bad for price, filling enough for one person! They do charge $0.50 for a takeout boxes so I recommend coming when you're hungry. I went with my family around 2pm on a weekday and it wasn't busy at all! In and out within 45 mins. The servers were pretty quick overall and the place was pretty clean with plexiglass all around. I don't expect much from their service so I wouldn't mind coming here again. Family friendly second location of this HK style cafe in Richmond. Modern interior with mix of booths and large tables. Menu same as Vancouver location. Reasonably priced entrees and HK favorites. Large portions. Free Chinese soup and dessert with combo dinners. Taste for dishes are average. Overall family friendly restaurant in the area. read more
If you're looking for an HK style cafe this place will not disappoint! They've got a reasonably priced pineapple bun sandwich combo that will let you save a couple bones on a hot beverage of your choice I got a pineapple bun with a porkchop inside with HK coffee milk tea as my side. Great, simple, breakfast that feels like a nice warm hug to the soul! On a sunday morning there was a line to get in but it moved fast and we were served quite quickly. The inside is huge and lively with many large tables for big families.
