I read about Yue Restaurant being one of the most reliable and enjoyable dim sum spots in Richmond (old school traditional style) but unfortunately, they do not serve Dim Sum in the evening. Nevertheless, we were glad we tried their dinner. When you tried to do research on the restaurant and could not find any menu or proper working link, you will realize this place emphasizes on words of mouth rather than Online Marketing. I did not find a single non-Chinese customers when we were there and this place was packed! The dining room is bright, clean, and spacious, and even when the restaurant is busy, the atmosphere feels lively rather than chaotic. The staff works hard to keep things moving, and service is friendly and efficient. The food is the real highlight. Everything arrives beautifully prepared, with generous portions and fresh ingredients. Their Wagyu beef cubes is a MUST-HAVE. Its the best Wagyu beef I have tasted! We also ordered their Peking Duck. It's not the best I have tried but definitely above average. This order comes in 2 dishes. You wrap the duck skin with thin crepe, and the 2nd dish is basically the diced duck meat wrapped in lettuce. We balanced the protein with Tofu/Broccoli/Mushroom dish. We also ordered Yangzhou fried rice. These dishes alone kept 5 hungry adults satisfied. We struggled to finish every scrap! Portion sizes and price point felt standard for Richmond. I thought it was cute that they also put the teapots on a candle stand to keep it warm. For 5 people, the total cost with tip was around $40 per person. Unfortunately, the only thing that fell short was the long wait we had to endure despite having made a reservation. We booked a reservation for 12:45pm, but because of the overwhelming weekend rush, we were not sat until 1:30pm. I understand that the restaurant was quite busy, but it certainly made the experience a little less enjoyable. There were also lots of people waiting in the area and the hostess found it hard to identify which groups were waiting and which had already checked in. This place is known to be one of the best dimsum restaurant in Richmond. I can't argue. From its service to food quality and food creation are all top-graded. The taste is decent. The staff friendly attends to our need given the busy traffic on Sunday mornings and World Cup happening at the same time. They even went to ask for a pre-ordered birthday peach bun for a walk-in birthday celebration. The only thing that I would appreciate more is the arrangement to big streams of the guests. One of our friend's sister-in-law recommended this place as they live in Seattle, WA so they would frequent Vancouver, BC as the drive is quite short. They said this dimsum place is one of their favorites and I can see why. The authenticity of the food seemed legit although they did not have the people pushing carts around the restaurant, the flavors were definitely on point. We had a group of 9 and we were seated almost immediately at around 11:30 AM on a Friday. The server asked us what tea we wanted and gave us a menu to pick from. As always we ordered with our eyes rather than our stomaches and had a bunch of leftovers. The shumai was insanely good, probably one of the best shumai's I've had as it was juicy, flavorful, and plump! One of our friends was talking to the server and apparently they use a similar method like xiao long bao and infuse the shumai with pork broth gelatin while steaming it which makes it flavorful and juicy! The other dishes were good too but nothing else really stood out in the savory section, but on the sweet side... if you like durian, their durian tarts was so tasty! Most of our group didn't partake but hey, more for me haha. The salted lava egg yolk buns were also top-tier and would recommend them. Food is so tasty! I had the pork liver rice sheet and I had never tasted porker liver that tender and juicy in my life; in my mind I always remember it being dry but it was nothing like that. Yue Restaurant is famous for it's dim sum in Vancouver, but my family and I wasn't able to make it so we decided to try their dinner. We had a high expectation because we heard good reviews about the restaurant. However, we didn't enjoy our order. All dishes were really oily and extremely greasy! Steamed fish: we enjoy eating fishes. The fish itself has no problem, it is fresh and tender. However, the sauce was really sweet! We visited other canto restaurants, but never had such a sweetened fish dish. Grilled Lamb Chop: this was ordered for my parents, probably the only dish they enjoyed. The lamb chops were cooked perfectly, it is tender and juicy. It is not salty, but one per person is greatly enough because it can get greasy and heavy. Seafood Vermicelli in Clay Pot: the shrimps and scallops are nice and big, but it comes with a large portion of vermicelli. Since it was stirred up with lots of oily, this is a super heavy and oily! Don't recommend this. Scrambled eggs with black cod: the eggs are nice and fluffy and the cod fish is fresh. But it has the same issue as all the other dishes, it is very oily! We couldn't finish it because it was very greasy. Stir- Fried Gai Lan with Ginger Sauce: Gai lan was fresh, but it is so oily! Vegetable dishes are often light and can hardly go wrong, but this dish was super oily! Didn't help with easing off the greasiness from other dishes. Braised Pork with Sweet Soy Sauce: a famous canto dish, but I only recommend on ordering it if you have a large party size. The pork was fatty, pairing the sweet sauce makes it more oily and greasy. A large portion was left over. Complimentary dessert: the porridge was nicely cooked, it is lightly sweetened, mostly from the pumpkin and taro. The almond cookies were served nicely baked and crispy. My family hate to have left overs, but all the dishes couldn't be finished because of how oily and greasy they were. Maybe Yue Restaurant may be a better choice for dim sum, but DEFINITELY NOT for dinner. Also, their dinner price for each dishes is high. The service was great after you started ordering and eating. The host was kind of cold and seemed annoyed when we walked in. The restaurant was not busy when we visited on a Friday evening. read more

Got a chance to try three different dim sum spots during our recent trip to the Vancouver area. Although I still think that Kirin was the best, Yue was also a solid option. The restaurant was nicely decorated and not too crowded. Service was decent. We had the usual steamed shrimp dumplings, Siu Mai, steamed beef rice rolls, etc. There was also a special on deep fried crab with garlic 避風塘蟹。Everything was tasty and authentic. The stand out was the scallops with crispy taro. This is not usually found in other restaurants. The steamed beef rice rolls were also very good. This place is really popular, and it's felt right away as the small parking lot is a struggle to navigate as cars circle around waiting for someone to vacate their spot. As a result, it wasn't a surprise that there was a decent wait to get in without reservations. At the waiting area are some awards they've gotten for specific dishes, a nice hint to order them if you're not sure what to get You can also ask for a menu, so by the time you get to the table, you'll be ready to submit your order into the kitchen. The seating area was typical of a dim sum place, maybe a bit more modern and spacious compared to others I've been to. It was nice and bright, making it a nice area to enjoy a meal. Tea was served immediately after sitting, and that was great. The food was great. I would definitely come back for the food, but make a reservation next time. The tripe was flavorful and easy to eat. Chewy, rubbery tasteless tripe is never good, but this tripe wasn't that. It came with that flavorful broth too. It definitely wasn't spicy though, which I was hoping for. The har gow were good, solid. The shumai were delicious, and that was scarfed down by the table. Almost got more of them, but we already had so much food on the table. The noodles were delicious. Parking is tight at the parking lot for this restaurant; not only is it shared among several businesses including this one but the spots themselves are also tight and make you nervous. As with a handful of other dim sum restaurants I go to, the inside has some pretty lighting to the point where you could hold a wedding or some other big celebration inside after dim sum hours. I went in with a group of 4 and had to wait just a little bit as the vast amount of seating (from four to large groups) was mostly filled. With varying degrees and speed of service from our servers, we got some things we don't normally get at most dim sum places: - We got Xiao long bao here and it came as 5 pieces. Soup was still inside the baos and it ended up being an amazing palette cleanser, and it was piping hot too! - The Chinese donut with shrimp and takoyaki sauce was an interesting twist on the regular Chinese donut rice noodles I usually get. It was basically a mix of two savory things I would have preferred to eat separately since both of their taste profiles clashed pretty hard; this sadly wasn't my favorite. - The pan fried Chinese pancake definitely had what were chives, so it was essentially a shrimp with chives patty put inside another kind of wrapping. - I didn't expect the steamed rice roll with minced pork and egg to be so plain-looking. This ended up tasting very homemade and therefore also very clean and fresh compared to the rest of the food we got. - The desserts we got varied in how I felt. Sponge cake was all right, the sweetened fluffy egg pastry felt very small with a weird sweet aftertaste, and there was far too much durian than what I would have wanted on the durian egg tart. You really have to love durian to enjoy this. There was a lot to say here but I would still recommend here for some more unique dim sum dishes that have a different taste to them. read more

Mid-size Cantonese restaurant on Alexandra Rd in Richmond. I think this is one of the newer Cantonese restaurants in Richmond. Went there for weekday dimsum and the place was doing decent business. The dimsum menu has some interesting items. They have a couple of items with some durian. I'm not the biggest fan of durian, but we tried durian tarts and the durian flavor was pretty mild and pleasant. Also had the matcha bun with the runny custard. The bun is bright green, but didn't taste much matcha flavor. Other than the color, it tasted exactly the same as a regular steamed bun with runny custard. Their fried taro "dumpling" has a unique look and each had a scallop on top. Tried a whole bunch of other dimsum items too, and overall it was pretty solid, comparable to the other mainstay dimsum restaurants in the area both in taste and price. read more

We got there before they opened and there already people in the convenient parking lot. Inside is pretty clean and upscale looking. Steamed rice rolls (cheung fun) were stand out items with both the beef rice rolls and shrimp ones being very good. I have never seen fried chicken knuckles on a menu but we had to try it! Nice 5 spice flavor and if you are into chewing on cartilagenous chicken bits (apparently I am) this is for you. I also liked how the tea pots all had their own tea candles to keep warm. Overall, this is a good place for yum cha. The food definitely tastes better than dim sum restaurants in the United States that don't have a large Cantonese population, but it is not a big enough difference that I would go out of my way to Richmond for this particular restaurant. I heavily prefer Hong Kong style egg tarts, which aren't made here. These egg tarts were super small and 50% crust. However, it actually tasted great even though there was so much crust. The waitstaff can be very attentive. I went when the restaurant opened, so the room was a third full, and kind of struggled to get my food ordered. but after that, even when it got really busy, the waitstaff kept trying to give me new plates to clear out the empty lo mai gai wrappers.
