Every time I go to Royal Palace Seafood it's always super busy. It can get quite loud during lunch and dinner times though. Food is solid.

It was super busy when we went here. Decent service, great food, huge portions!! Typical Chinese restaurant ambiance. Parking lot with somewhat small spaces. I would definitely go back.

This is a lower end Chinese restaurant located in Vancouver on East Hasting. Their parking lot is small and the parking spots are tight. I drive a small car so its not bad for me but I can't imagine the bigger cars. We were a table of 14 people. They managed to accommodate everyone at one table. I was surprised that we booked the table 30 mins before showing up on a Monday and they managed to have seats for us and the table ready when we showed up. The place is at the cheaper end. If you dine over a certain $$ you get a coupon for free half chicken with an expiry date around the corner. The price is cheap. We got free tea and 10%. The food portion size is huge. However, the presentation is kind of gross for some dishes such as the rice rolls that looks like a mess on a plate. The quality of the ingredients are not fresh for some items and the taste is not there for some items as well. The restaurant itself looks ok. It was very noisy when we went. The washroom was kind of dirty. The restaurant itself isn't very appetizing if you notice the smaller fine details of the cleanliness of the place. They attract customers who don't want to drive to Richmond for Chinese food or looking for cheaper Chinese food options. Some dishes are a hit and miss. I personally won't be back unless someone insist on dining here.

Reviewing for our dinner here back in December 2023 (I took notes, just getting around to finally posting this). Pretty good Chinese food. The entire restaurant had Asian diners, we were one of two tables with caucasian diners. THE SERVICE A little difficult if you don't speak Cantonese. Even my Mandarin didn't help; I asked our server for Oolong tea and she didn't understand me, eventually waving me off and bringing me some unknown tea. Eventually I think our server handed us off to a manager who speaks English because we saw a lot less of that server. They were a little judge-y of my caucasian partner, saying things like "of course you'll need a fork" directly to him without him asking for one, and kind of being brusque when he asked for soy sauce (and it was for our kids). RESERVATIONS We got a 5:30pm reservation for 5 people on Christmas Eve with just about 1 hour's notice. THE COST $153 CAD total for 4 dinner entrees & 3 bowls of rice. THE FOOD * Beef Slices with Gai Lan ($29.80) - 3.5 stars Very tender beef slices; the gai lan was quite crunchy, slightly undercooked. * Scallop, Egg Tofu, & Eggplant ($33.80) - 4.5 stars Everyone's favorite dish! Great flavor and everything in here had a perfect texture. * Supreme Soy Sauce Chow Mein ($26.80) - 3 stars This normally comes with veggies, but we asked for plain noodles with soy sauce for our toddlers. We asked if the veggies could be on the side, but that wasn't possible for some reason. We still got the full charge for the dish. * Spicy Ma Po Tofu with Minced Pork ($28.80) - 3.5 stars Legit numbing spice. Could have used a little more pork, but overall tasty.

Maybe the 5 stars is an over exaggeration but also maybe not - for the price, quality and quantity of food, this place is a winner for sure. Our group of 4 came here after seeing it was always busy and the parking lot was full even on weekdays. This place is a typical Chinese banquet hall that looks like they do dim sum on weekends and feels like it could even host a small wedding - and a smaller 6 table room in a different area of the restaurant. The menu was expansive, as expected, but the dinner combos really caught our eye. We ordered the lobster combo, which came with five other dishes for a price that honestly felt like a steal of a deal. The seafood vermicelli was the real crowd-pleaser. If I had to rate the dishes, it would be the following: 1. Seafood vermicelli (very flavourful and not dry) 2. Sweet and sour pork (crispy and meaty) 3. Ground pork and eggplant (saucy and big portions) 4. Beef and Gailan (a staple and really good - I've been to places where the gailan is bitter and chewy because they kept the ends on - this place cut it off at the right spots and the dish was good) 5. Lobster with sticky rice (This one is a personal preference but I like fluffy rice and more of a crab person) 6. Soy glazed chicken (This one is the bottom on my list but in no way a bad choice, I just liked the others above this) Service was smooth. One of our group spoke Cantonese, but the staff's English was spot-on, so no translation needed. They kept things moving and didn't miss a beat. The meal kicked off with a soup and wrapped up with a dessert--both not in the pictures but both very appreciated. With places like this - with such an expansive menu, I feel like its hard to go wrong, but there are some key winners that would change some people's opinions from a 3- or 4- star review to a 5, so definitely check out the ones I listed above!

Looks like an old restaurant but the food here was really good!! However the service was not great, but isn't it like that though? These hole in wall type places have great food but low service. I would recommend this place to eat.

I have driven by this place every day but never tried until we celebrated a friend's birthday. We ordered 13 delicious dishes. I enjoyed eating the crispy chicken, piping hot eggplant with scallops, seafood fried rice and that big beef bone. The servers were friendly and food came out quick.

Some of what we ordered. Just to give an idea of highlights and prices which are pretty reasonable.

Great find. Came here on a whim on Fathers Day with 7 of us, three generations and we all loved it. Great dim sum, great price and presented well. Torn between 4/5 stars but decided to just go for it. Among the highlights; - most of the regular dim sum has 5 pieces instead of 4. Feel this is great value and a better size at least for our family of 5 - siu mai: truffled, really tasty - little pig Liu sa bao: everyone loved the looks and the taste too - eggplant - crispy and solid - Dan tat: crispy, flaky and tender Everything was pretty good though. Would definitely come back.

So mum wanted to show her appreciation for being her chauffeur taking her around to the doctors…read more She took me out for dimsum and with it being in Richmond there is a plethora of choices. She wanted to go to Kirin. Plenty of parking in the mall. Hostess greeted and seated us promptly. Restaurant was busy but not crazy. This was at 10am on a Thursday. Waiters were attentive. Usual table service was in place. Took our order and food came out at acceptable pace. When we were done, they politely boxed up the leftovers and we paid our bill. So service was on point. The food we ordered came out hot. The staples that I order to test was hargow, suimai and pai gwut(spareribs). All 3 dishes in general were good.....the hargow could have used an extra minute or 2 in the steamer. The suimai was very good. I tasted every ingredient in this dish. Usually it is just a complete mix and you can't discern the different flavors. They tried something different with the cheongfun by adding pieces of Chinese donut to the roll. I personally think it didn't add much to the dish, taste or texture wise. I did like the pea shoots with shrimp. I think it is a good combo. All in all a good dimsum. I also noticed they did not charge us a tea service. The cost of the food is comparable with other restaurants at this level. Yes come on a date or impress business clients/boss or family celebrations.

I have many Chinese friends in Vancouver, and my last visit to Kirin Richmond was in July 2024…read more This time, it was my birthday, and my friends insisted on treating me to Kirin Richmond once again. On a typical Sunday evening, the restaurant is usually fully occupied, but my friend had thoughtfully made a reservation a week in advance, so our table for five was ready upon arrival. As always, the restaurant was clean and well maintained, with good airflow thanks to the wide-open front entrance facing the parkade. The front desk receptionist greeted us cordially, and we were escorted to a cozy table in a comfortable location -- not too close to the washrooms, which I appreciated. Our meal began with the Kirin Special Assorted Cold Appetizer, followed by Crab Meat, Dried Scallops, and Fish Maw Soup. The soup arrived piping hot and was delicious, with a generous portion that could easily have served eight people. We also enjoyed Pea Tips Braised with Bean Curd and Assorted Mushrooms in Consommé, Marinated Free-Range Crispy Skin Chicken, Fillet of Cod Sautéed with Seasonal Vegetables, and Live Crab in Consommé with Ginger and Green Onion, served with E-fu Noodles. Overall, the quality and taste of every entrée were excellent. Service was top-notch -- tea and hot water were refilled constantly, bones and used plates were replaced promptly, and the servers were friendly and engaging throughout the evening. My friend and his family have apparently been regulars at this location for over two decades, which likely contributed to the exceptional attentiveness we received. However, one aspect of the experience genuinely disturbed me. All servers, including the captains, continued to wear masks at all times. While this practice was understandable two years ago, now -- five years after the onset of the pandemic, with COVID-19 managed similarly to other seasonal respiratory illnesses -- the continued universal masking in a fine-dining environment feels unnecessary and detracts from the overall guest experience. Fine dining, in my view as an avid foodie, is built on human connection, hospitality, and personal interaction. Masks create a more impersonal, almost clinical atmosphere. In a well-ventilated space like this, the environmental risk does not seem to justify the visual and social trade-off. Rather than providing reassurance, the persistent masking may unintentionally signal that the environment is unsafe or that management is out of step with current provincial health guidelines, where masking is now a personal choice rather than a mandate. Final verdict: Food & Service: 5/5 Ambience: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 -- as the current aesthetic feels more like a relic of 2020 than a leader in 2026 hospitality.

New Town Bakery is one of those Chinatown staples that feels like a rite of passage in Vancouver…read more We headed there for breakfast, excited for pastries and a classic bakery experience, and decided to dine in. Once we sat down and were handed the full menu, though, I had a brief moment of panic. The menu is huuuge and varied, plus none of the items I had mentally planned on ordering were on there. We pivoted and ordered pork siu mai, congee, look fun noodles, and a few steamed buns (they're especially known for those). The congee, noodles, and siu mai were all fine--very standard, not particularly memorable. In fairness, they weren't what I came for in the first place, so that probably shaped my expectations. The real standouts were the pork asado siopao and the chicken deluxe (bola bola). Both have Filipino roots, and the siopao especially brought a comforting sense of familiarity--soft, fluffy, and filled with that sweet-savory pork that felt like home. Those alone made the visit worthwhile. They actually have quite a few other Filipino influenced items like hopia and puto which was surprising. Ironically, it was only after we left that I noticed the sign on the window highlighting their most popular items--exactly what first-timers should probably stick to. I had ordered a few pastries to go with the intention of trying them later... and then completely forgot about them, which I'm still a little sad about. Overall, it was a good visit with a clear lesson learned: go in with a game plan and order the hits. It's a beloved Vancouver institution for a reason, and I'd definitely recommend stopping by--just know it's cash only and do a little pre-order research so you can make the most of it. I'd give it more like a 3.5 vs a 4 star, but I'm already planning a redo focused purely on the classics.

However, what truly disappointed me was the poor service. Even though the restaurant was not busy, the dishes were served very slowly. The first 2 dishes came out fast, but the later 2 dishes came out after 45 min. When we asked for additional rice and water, we had to wait an unusually long time. Throughout the meal, we felt neglected. It was hard not to feel that the level of service was noticeably indifferent, possibly because we did not order any high-priced seafood or premium dishes. Unfortunately, that was my experience at Jingle Bao & Yum Yum Wok. I purposely planned to arrive around 3:30pm so I can take advantage of the 2-5pm happy hour special. Upon entry, I was given three options for seating as it wasn't busy. The server was extremely nice and it was great to see a staff freshly making their XLBs. I ended up ordering a trio set; the Crab XLB for my dumpling option, the tan tan noodles for my starch, and a matcha latte for my beverage. The tan tan noodles arrived first. Unlike the noodles I normally order, it was in a chili oil broth. I can tell the noodles were hand cut, but the thickness was consistent with udon noodles. It lacked flavor and the chili oil and sesame oil combo failed to sink into the noodle. Another table asked for salt for their noodle, hoping that it would save the taste. Neither them nor I finished it. The beverage came out second. The lady making it behind the counter didn't seem too careful with the ratio. What I ended up getting was a slightly mint color milk beverage. It wasn't very good, but still my favorite of the trio. You can mess up flavor milk. The dumplings came out shortly after. Maybe it's my bad for being adventurous right from the start - and I also know that not everything is made for me; but other than the nice red-white ying yang color, it was bad. The dumplings were all different sizes. The meat inside fell apart and broke. It as also surprisingly fishy, which makes me think that the crab had been dead for a long while. I ended up using the vinegar to mask the taste and fishyness. Upon a closer look at the menu, the price differential between the HH combo and the individual orders weren't much of a difference. I felt kinda bummed that I purposely targeted this place at this time and it fell short of expectations. Two starts for the decor and the lovely people, but zero for the food.
