Most people come to this shopping center for HK BBQ Master, but we came specifically for Paul's Kitchen AND it was very authentic HK style breakfast cuisine. We only had our credit cards and I asked the person at the cash register if they take credit card, she said nope but there is an ATM upstairs at the Superstore. We went upstairs to grab some cash from the ATM out front. When we got back downstairs, the lady in charge already had reserved a table for us and immediately explained to us what is served during the breakfast hours. She gave us a few recommendations and we went with the wonton with brisket as they ran out of fish balls and the HK Style Grilled Beef with Black Peppercorn Sauce. Both items were marvelously well made, the peppercorn sauce is EXACTLY how its done in HK and all major cities with a huge HK population. But the winner is the wonton. By golly, I have had hundreds of bowls of wonton, I have made hundreds of wonton dumplings for my family's business but this one really stands out amongst all of them. The service is efficient and very friendly and they greeted so many regular customers with kind words asking about their work and family. I felt like I was entering into a HK neighborhood corner cafe. This is like hole in the wall of hole in the wall in terms of HK style cafes. I kinda miss these kinds of establishments. I had a reasonable connection time for my Seattle-Winnipeg flight, so I decided to venture out to Richmond for awesome Chinese food. One of my friends recommended me this place for the combination of speed and value, since I wanted something that I can down in under 30 minutes. The menu here is on the wall, and you order at the counter. I had the satay beef instant noodles with an iced lemon tea. As promised, excellent value for what you get! I don't think my food exceeded $10 at all after tax. Don't expect much for service, although they were quite wonderful to chat with if you're able to communicate effectively in Cantonese. We ordered the milk tea to go. We told them we did not want sugar and they still gave us sugar on the side. This meant they ignored our request. For the authentic milk tea, usually people would make it for customers and customers can request customization (e.g. less sugar/ more milk). However, they put the bags of sugar with the stir stick on the table for customers instead. This meant they did not want to make the milk tea for customers. Also, the cashier put the receipt on the plate so I put cash on top of it. Then she left my cash on the plate and put my change on the counter. Normally, the cashier would take the customer's money first before giving back the change so that the change can be put on the plate. They made me pick up the change on the counter instead of getting it from the plate. This defeated the purpose of the plate and against industry standards. P.S. The taste of the tea was stronger than the milk. We will not return because they did not serve the drink in the right way and they did not respect customers. read more

I was assigned to Hong Kong for work a few years ago and Paul's Kitchen is as authentic a typical HK breakfast place as it gets. Food was prepped quickly and efficiently, prices are more than fair and the food instantly brought me back to the places nearby the TST station. This place is full flavor!!! Incredible find a very pleasant surprise. Dining in is the way to go. All dishes are large portions with just the spice, but you can request more or less spice. I drive out from Vancouver just to pick up food. Dishes a must to order 32. Manchurian Chicken (all white meat) 128. Chicken fried rice 141. This little hidden place is beneath the superstore in Richmond. I've passed by many times but never stepped inside because it looked like a hole in the wall kind of place. It was such a beaten down place that it totally reminded me of the restaurants I've been to in Asia. Not to mention they don't speak English. The braised beef rice was ok, nothing special. What was worth mentioning was the beef was quite tender. However, I found both this dish (and the meat patty) to be TOO salty. Also, half of the rice buried under the beef was not edible as it was saturated with the too salty sauce. The remaining unsaturated rice wasn't enough to offset the saltiness so I had to save some beef to eat at home where I was able to add more rice to it. I'm not sure if I'd ever come back again... there are TOO many restaurants and food court vendors that sell similar food and (in my opinion) tastier as well. While their prices may be slightly lower than these other places, it's not enough to lure me back when I have a craving for Hong Kong food. I also wouldn't mind paying a bit more to feel more comfortable while on the premise. read more

The bottom (parking lot) level of Superstore is seriously the last place that comes to mind when looking for food in Richmond. Everyone knows about HK BBQ Master directly next door (47 Yelp reviews as of today), but I can't believe nobody has even reviewed this place! So why am I giving this place 4 stars? - they don't speak English. Therefore you know it's authentic. - the place is totally beaten up, and looks like crap. From this, you know it's going to be special. - the dishes here are all $6-8. This is cheaper than Mui Garden for crying out loud. - Their curry is spicy, in a really pleasant way. It has quite a bit of kick, but doesn't leave you flushed and drinking water for the next 20 minutes. My friend and I couldn't figure out what they could possibly put in the curry to pull this off. The (curry) beef brisket chunks were a bit small, but the quantity made up for it. The (curry) chicken pieces were pretty big, and it looks like they fried the pieces first before dropping them into the curry. As a touch of their classiness, the food is served on trays, with your curry and ghetto-soup in plastic (think take-out) bowls, and the rice is served in a styrofoam container. You don't even have to ask them to doggy bag it when you're done! This brings up my last point: the portions are quite large. I'm definitely coming back here. Oh baby. read more

Simple but GOOD!! Hidden inside the parking lot of the Real Canadian Super Store in Richmond, and you will find this Hong Kong style neighbourhood eatery! Food is typical of this type of eateries, mostly Hong Kong style western dishes, and a few Chinese comfort foods. Special recommendation: Grilled Steak / Chicken with Black Pepper Sauce with rice or spaghetti. The sauce is especially good it has a spicy kick from the fresh ground black pepper, it goes well with the meat of your choice. I love their grilled chicken, the meat is juicy and the skin is grilled to perfection and still crispy! The Slice Beef with Curry is also very authentic Hong Kong style curry! Not too spicy, full of flavour and also the onion is a perfect compliment for the curry sauce as the natural sweetness balances the spice out!! For both dishes, I would wish there's a bit more rice! Service is warm and friendly, boss lady always make you feel welcomed and even they are busy, she always make a point to keep a table for us! Very authentic Hong Kong style cafe food. We went to Lido but somehow they were closed on Sunday morning? We search on Yelp and found this place. We went to Lido couple days ago and after this place, we know we will choose this place next time. Very cozy, servers acknowledged their regular customers names. My face says "I wanna Satay Beef Rice Noodle with Iced Lemon Tea and a side order of Chicken Wings." Literally - when I walk into the joint that I've been coming for over 10 years, the lady knows me well. Mind you this place moved from old Aberdeen to the current, not-so-traffic -friendly location (beneath Superstore), but my friends and I followed the home hong kong café cooking all the way here regardless. The space is small, tables and chairs are dated and heavily used, the big B-U-T is that you're here for the awesome food that is also awesomely priced. For instance, for $4, you get the breakfast combo with a hot drink, and for an additional $0.50, you get to 'upgrade' to an iced drink. My choices are usually the ham and egg sandwich, and the Satay Beef Rice Noodle. Other notable items include Meat Loaf rice, ham over macaroni, assortments of fried rice and noodles. Paul's Kitchen is Chinese Cafe Comfort food. Really it's that simple. It's the equivalent of Italian restaurants having their version of rustic food. You go just go up and order at the front. They'll ask you if you would like Hot Tea (I think, but not for sure you can get Hong Kong coffee mixed with tea) or you can get a soup. The soup I had was made with pork, and with large carrots. It had a nice natural sweetness to it that comes from a lazy pink animal. And for those that know me closely know I like eating pork. I ordered the curry rice chicken, and unlike other places the one thing I enjoyed was that they fried the chicken skin with the chicken and then served with with curry sauce. This curry is different from other Chinese places, this one actually packs quite a bit of heat to start, but after eating it for 5 minutes the heat of it goes away and the flavour of the curry sauce really comes through. The chicken was awesome, not overcooked, but if you're looking to watch your weight, it may not be the absolute best idea to order this dish. But if you're in the neighborhood and want to try something different from HK BBQ Master, check it out. Just remember, it's Cantonese comfort food. read more

Paul's Kitchen is a place for cheap eats, fast food and take out. It is located underneath Superstore in Richmond. The restaurant is a dive and rather small, but for less than $3 bucks you can enjoy a quick breakfast of ham and egg sandwich with a hot drink of milk tea, coffee, etc. Not really sure why you need to reserve a seat here because people are here for a quick bite or for take out. Traffic is constantly flowing. Iced Milk Tea and Lemon Iced Tea: both are pretty tasty and is no less than any sit down cafe around town. Black Bean Beef Pan Fried Noodles: It is steaming hot off the wok. I like it saucy and smothering my noodles. The beef is tender and ingredients are fresh. If we are ever lazy and don't feel like cooking, this is one of our go to places. Only downside of it is the pathetic parking at Superstore. Good luck fighting for a spot! read more

Great place to grab a quick eat. This place is like a space-time warp to a Hong Kong resto cafe. From the two-tone green paint job, epic photo painting of the Hong Kong skyline at night, to the tacky brown venetian blinds. The food is good. People raved about how cheap it is, but I think it is about average for Richmond. I just liked the style. Really hole-in-the-wall. The all-day breakfast options are very cheap, averaging about $3.75 each. If you splurge, it might cost you $5. lol The lemon iced tea was excellent. There were 3 thick slices of lemon in my tea, and they didn't skimp on the tea flavor and the sugar. The hours are a bit odd. They are closed Monday afternoon and all Tuesdays. They take a break every afternoon from 3:30-5pm. I understand that this is common in Asia, so it seems to make it more authentic. I just wished that they opened later than 7pm. I could totally see myself coming in at 9pm for a late night munchie. read more

Just had a delicious lunch. I had a homemade sausage sandwich with peppers and onion. Wow, the best sausage I have ever eaten. My husband had the Margarita pizza. Their French toast is really good (I usually take out the jam as the jam makes it kinda taste weird, in opinion). Also, their chicken curry rice is good, it's really flavourful, along with their iced tea!! I love this place, even though I haven't been there in a while. It is extremely Hong Kong styled according to my mom, who was born in Hong Kong, and has tasted pretty much food from HK all her life. Other than the food, the restaurant itself is quite dirty, as it is old, especially the washrooms, in which I am scared to go into. I stopped by here after searching it up on Instagram. Their preserved veg meat patty is excellent! Served with sweet soy sauce. I always get that, along with curry beef brisket on rice. No pretence, just good food. Their meat patty is tender and flavourful, which helps balance the plain rice and fried egg on top. I also ask for a side of tomato sauce on the side (just a personal preference). Their milk tea does taste a bit watered down, but their food is 100%. I don't get why this place isn't more popular. I also don't know if I should be sharing this hidden gem because it's such a personal fav and I don't want the lineups to get too long! But I definitely think everybody needs to try it out! My favourite thing to get is the pork patty with literally anything because it's so so good you have to try it. And their hot milk tea is 10/10 Service: Everyone's so nice and the cashier lady lets you customize your meal however you like. (eg: more sauce or less sauce or no onions or whatever) although it is served food court style where u order at the desk and they bring it to you. And the no change part is kinda a bummer but it's only because they usually have lots of customers and it would take too long to sort the change. Comfort: although it looks sketchy, don't let it fool you. Its a very welcoming place and they will greet you when you enter. If you come often they remember you and they ask how your day is and such, and remember what you like to order and and so forth. Whenever I go I order the same thing and by now they just ask if I want the usual. ALSO REALLY NICE: I spilt my drink on the table once and they immediately came over after hearing me say "oh no". They serve really authentic HK style Western food that took me back to HK circa 1980s. Their half coffee, half milk tea is excellent. No HK style restaurant in the San Francisco Bay Area even comes close. read more

I have been coming here since they were in Parker Place. Cheap breakfast for $2.50 and that includes a coffee. Their fried meals rice combos are good. The curry is cheap. Their chow mein is ok. The salty fish ( anchovie rice) is pricey at over $10. The owners have a strong Honger attitude but still friendly. Kinda like a NY hawker has an edge even when being polite. But all in all, cheaper than BBQ Master ( next door) and way friendlier than Fukurokiu Epxress ( the Owner there is a Witch). read more
