Fat Boy is a nice HK cafe style restaurant with your typical western influenced plates and noodle soups. My favourite was their chicken steak however I will say the portions are a bit on the smaller side but justified by the lower prices!

My family and I were craving Hk style cafe food while in Vancouver. We were glad that we found Fat Boy Kitchen. There was a short wait on a Sunday morning, but not too bad (~15 minutes). I had the Beef Satay with Instant Noodle. I thought that the beef satay was really well seasoned and cooked. The soup base was also really well seasoned; tasty and drinkable. I had Hot Milk Tea with my meal. I liked how they let you adjust your sugar level. The tea itself was really silky and smooth. I would definitely come back

Tasty HK style place near Victoria and 54th. Parking is available on Victoria, as well as the side streets. Interior is pretty modern and chill. Lots of booth seating. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Everything on the menu looked good. I didn't know where to start. The waiter recommended the Singaporeak Laksa chicken rice noodle soup. This thing is tasty. Turns out they fry the chicken fillet nad stick it on top. Nice and crunchy. Pricing is very reasonable too. I would gladly come back to try more of their food. Recommended.

Super big portions and inexpensive place to dine at. We had a party of 6 and it's a smaller place for dining. They were able to accommodate us. We all ordered something different off the menu. They have a very very good menu HK style milk tea. Super friendly and food came out fast. Huge portions of the rice dishes. The curry pork cutlets were nicely cooked and the curry has a nice little kick afterwards. The pork sandwich was better than the chicken sandwich but it was still tasty. I really like their satay beef noodles soup and you can customize the type of noodles you want. Servers were very sweet, helps to speak Cantonese with them. They even helped charge one of our phones while we were dining there. I really enjoyed my meal here.

    Beef Minute Steak Bun

Been wanting to try this restaurant out for a while as it's near home and had good reviews. The food is is decent, pretty much what you can find at any HK cafe and I don't particularly feel like anything stood out. I ordered the chicken nuggets and substituted the rice for fries and also ordered a beef minute steak bun. The fries were soft and crispy (had a coating). The chicken was basic, I have a place for my favorite Taiwanese chicken nuggets and this place didn't beat it. Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with the nuggets here; it's just basic. I think what makes this place standout from the rest is the portion sizes; as it's bigger portion sizes here. Even the milk tea here was fairly basic. The steak sandwich, was decently juicy and had a balance flavor with the onions and mushrooms; but I do feel like it was a bit overdone with the inclusion of mayo. It put the "Fat Boy" in Fat Boy Restaurant, something I could have done without. The bun was nice and toasted. The service could use a bit of work. I was standing near the door for a while as others who have entered after me, and noone even really acknowledges you. It seems to be a trend in this area for restaurants unfortunately. I was also sat at the table closest to the door and it seems intrusive. I'm trying to enjoy my meal and next thing you know, people are standing right next to you. I get that it's a smaller restaurant with limited seating, but I'd like to enjoy my meal in peace; not have people waiting next to me. Free street parking can be found nearby, there's lots. They also accept credit cards, which is a plus. Overall, I'd give it another try. The portions do seem bigger then most HK cafes (made up by the higher price), and the taste is decent. Not a bad experience.

Came here for a late lunch/ early dinner. Overall the Chicken a la king was good but the rice tasted old and was too starchy, it broke down quickly in the sauce. The chicken was quite good however. Milk tea is average

We didn't want to wait in a massive line across the street so we decided to try Fat Boy Kitchen. They're a HK cafe spot a few doors down from TM Vietnamese Food and Elephant's Kitchen. We dropped in on a busy Friday (around noon). We added our name to the waitlist; took about 15 minutes for a table to open up. What I didn't like is that they give you cheap, plastic cutlery to use when dining in. Two menus; one for all day breakfast and the other for noodle soup, sandwiches, snacks and signature dishes. - Two luncheon meat slices with two eggs (A4) ($9.50) - D added a mini noodle soup ($3.00), opting for the HK style satay beef, along with a HK style milk tea ($1.00). I was told the broth was bland and they could have given more satay beef. The milk tea wasn't flavourful enough and the spam slices were thinner than other HK spots in town. This coming from my friend who is a HK cafe lover. - Beef minute steak with two eggs (A7) ($12.50) - M also added the same mini noodle soup ($3.00) but opted for the vermicelli noodles. M had similar comments but seemed to enjoy his steak. - Singaporean laksa chicken in noodle soup (N) ($14.50) - broth lacked depth and complexity. Calling it a Singaporean style laksa is misleading. A bro that we chatted to while waiting seemed to be a regular and said this was his favourite dish. No clue why. Don't quite understand the hype with FBK. Average portions, mediocre flavour.

    Satay beef with macaroni
    Stephanie M.

Came for breakfast on a Tuesday. We waited around 10 minutes for a spot at around 10:30 am. I got the C4 + B2 with macaroni noodles and a cold Hong Kong style milk tea. The egg sandwich with spam was really thick. The egg was really fluffy and filling. The bread was surprisingly fluffy. Wish this had some sauce on it to make it more interesting. The satay macaroni noodles was really big portion wise. I could not finish the noodles as there was so much. The beef was pretty chewy and didn't have enough beef flavour. Wouldn't get the macaroni satay beef noodles next time. The HK style milk tea was on the sweeter side. Wish it had more tea flavour. Tip if you go, ask for less sugar Overall: the price was not bad for the quality of the food you get. I can see why there are so many people on the weekdays and weekends. The service is also really fast and polite. Based on the food items I had, I would want to come back and try their other lunch items ie. Noodles etc.

I've had their food for take out back in September. We tried going there once to dine in on Sunday without knowing closure on Sundays. Laksa and Porkchop on Rice were huge. My sister and I shared Laksa together and it was so filling we didn't eat Porkchop until the next day. L Food came out fresh and delicious. Iced Tea was also tasty. Porkchop came with plentiful of meat for take out. Laksa was pretty good. I had a great experience with Fat Boys Kitchen so this place is a must try.

Pork and preserved vegetable noodle soup
    Patricia F.

Happy cheap comfort eats. Service was friendly and the small place is comfortable to be in. Not too busy or noisy. Just perfect when you're in the mood for simple comfort food. The prices are very reasonable and portions are good. I had the pork and preserved vegetable vermicelli noodle soup and loved every bite and slurp. So comforting. My bf had the black pepper chicken with rice and it came with 2 large pieces! The combo comes with a drink if you want. Definitely adding this small joint to my regular routine since it's so close for us. My only complaint. And I hope this changes soon, if that you're given plastic cutlery to eat with when your dining in. I don't like plastic cutlery at all and don't expect restaurants to use them for dine in. Other than it being so wasteful, it just cheapened the whole experience

Fat Boy Kitchen is well lit and recently renovated since they took over from the hot pot. The prices are good and the portions are decent. We got a western breakfast and chose bacon. We added $3 for a preserved vegetable and pork soup noodle. In all the times I've eaten this dish, I've not see anyone added corn in the soup. I found it odd but the noodle itself was tasty. The highlight of our breakfast was the laksa. Tip: If you want an iced drink, add it on top of the Non breakfast menu as it's $1 vs $1.50 if you add it on top of a breakfast item. The laksa came with Pan fried chicken, some fish balls, tofu puffs and bean sprouts. The soup base was very fragrant and not overly spicy. I really liked it. While the dining area was clean, I had a peek at their kitchen when I walked to the washroom... and it was very dirty and messy. For example, I saw that the stove counter was pretty black, perhaps from black scum(?). I found that a little appalling considering the fact that we were one of the first customers of the day. Did they not clean the kitchen the night before? I'm always thrown off by dirty kitchens and hence I deducted a star from my review. Otherwise, the all of the food items we ordered were yummy and we will be back for more! I'm so thankful to live in a metropolitan area thats populated with all kinds of restaurants!

All day breakfast with luncheon meat.
    Lisa S.

Portions are pretty huge here. I ordered the all day breakfast with a small noodle . It was $14. The breakfast is ok - comes with 2 eggs, hashbrown, toast, luncheon meat and beans. The luncheon meat could have been pan fried better. The meat was a bit funky- definitely not spam. I ordered preserved veggies with pork and vermicelli. Definitely a lot of food for the price. Would like to try some of the lunch dishes. They looked huge!

Fat Boy Kitchen This Hong Kong style cafe is out of the busy district on Victoria Drive in East Vancouver. The price and the portion are decent. They have all day breakfast starting at $5.95 and 10% off on take out orders. The service is very authentic HK Style. The food came to the table quickly within 10 - 15 minutes. We have ordered - Curry Chicken Chop on Rice Combo $12.95 including a hot drink. Add $1 for a cold drink What?! Three Deep Fried Chicken Chops topped with the curry sauce and green pepper, corns and a big scoop of rice on the side. That's a very generous portion. Taste: 3.5/5 D4. HK Style Satay Beef on Thick Round Rice Noodles $7.95 Add $1 for a hot drink Add $1.5 for a cold drink The satay beefs were tender but it would be better if adding more satay sauces on the noodles. Parking is available but limited in the lot in front. Better to look along Kingsway, or in the side streets behind the restaurant. I found it hilarious that the lot specifically prohibits parking for Tina Cake next door. Guess that must've been a problem over the years. The inside is plain and quite dated (old school). Looks like something out of the 1980s. Awesome. Staff are friendly and helpful. No complaints. Everything hit the spot in terms of authentic Cantonese. I had the stir fried beef with black pepper sauce, Hainan style chicken, and sweet and sour pork. Everything tasted great. Portion sizes are decent, and prices are quite reasonable. As the dishes are shared, it is best to come in groups (at least 3-4) so more dishes can be ordered. Looks like I've found my go-to for late night Cantonese food. Recommended.

This place has been decent in the past and consistently put out large portions of food at reasonable prices. I don't believe anything is outstanding, but always an overall enjoyable meal. Service is relatively friendly too. On a recent night, the most memorable dish had to be the Bean Sprouts w/ Salted Fish, which was full of umami and went well with a bowl of white rice. The Steamed Oysters w/ Garlic Sauce, Beef Chow Fun, and Seafood Chow Mein were all solid. However, the Dry Scallop Fish Maw Soup was bland, and the Goose Casserole w/ Taro was a major disappointment. Reminder to self, I originally wanted to order Tofu Skin in Dry Scallop Sauce, but was convinced otherwise. The recommended dish had snow pea leaves that were a bit tough, though the supreme broth and tofu skin that came with it were yummy. Next time, I want to try my initial selection. Also, don't forget that cheap late night eats is something I should come back for.

We ordered one of the claypot rice as a combo which came with a chinese soup (with choices) and a homemade red bean tofu pudding We also ordered the bighead carp head and belly in ginger and onion. This was really well made with generous portion of the fish head and belly. There wasnt too much side ingredients such as tofu puff. The portions of the claypot rice were generous with the given price as well. There were 4 of us and we had some leftover to take home. Dishes come out fast and hot, and the kitchen does not skimp on proteins--whether it's pork chops, chicken, or beef, plates feel properly loaded rather than padded with carbs.
