Baked chicken rice with cold milk tea
    Samuel F.

Ordered from Mambo cafe multiple times in the past and the quality of the food and milk tea (hot/cold) have been pretty consistent, as it's my go to whenever I visit Aberdeen centre. This time, I ordered the baked chicken cutlet on rice, with a cold milk tea. The default sauce for baked dishes unless specified is the tomato sauce, and mambos is definitely on the sweeter side compared to other HK cafes. The chicken was very tender but lack a crunchiness to it. The baked rice tasted pretty standard (rice with egg in it), nothing that will amaze you but a taste that you'll be used to if you've had baked rice before. The milk tea is decently strong and creamy, and on the sweeter side. I recommend ordering less sweet if you want a stronger tea flavour.

Got a bitter melon with beef rice along with a spaghetti dish with beef. It was okay. Cash only. It is around $14 CAD for a dish. If you wanted a cup with water, they charge 50cents a cup. Really!?

XO seafood fried rice is soooo good... lots of tender scallops, shrimp, squid and fish with roasty toasty XO sauce flavor mmm... pork over rice had way too much sweet tomato sauce to rice ratio.. it was just ok

Mambo has been around for ages. They serve up HK Cafe Style food in the Aberdeen Food Court and there's always a line-up. Been slightly obsessed with their Baked Porkchop on Spahetti/Rice lately. Remember, baked items take longer for them to make so with lineup to order + waiting for food, it could take almost 30min so plan ahead. For +$1 more, you can add on a drink to most dishes. We normally get their iced lemon tea but its just ok, there's definitely other places in the food court that does this better. Tip: If you don't have cash (they are cash only) or you want to preorder so you don't have to wait there, they are on Fantuan. But it is about $1 more to order via the app than in person.

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE HK-style cafe food, fast food-style, at reasonable prices, quickly served. That's something worth celebrating! === 2. FOOD On this day, we enjoyed the Scallop, Shrimp & Egg Swirl on Rice ($10.50): they ran out of scallop and so substituted beef. They didn't cheap out on the proteins and it was delish! Drinks are extra: hot is $0.75 and cold is $1.25. === 3. SERVICE Service was quick and fast in English and Cantonese. === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's the Aberdeen food court, meaning counter service cafeteria-style and plenty of tables atrium-style. Wheelchairs and baby strollers welcome, as are your wheels in the adjacent parkade.

#35 Pork Cutlet on rice with tomatoe sauce

I ordered their PORK CUTLET ON RICE WITH TOMATOE sauce and their COLD LEMON TEA Food is good. The lemon tea isn't super sweet like some places. It has the just right amount of sweetness. The pork cutlet is crispy and not dry. The tomatoe sauce is ok. I'm not a huge fan of it. It doesn't have enough "tomatoe" taste to it it's a little bit sweet but not too sweet. Overall I was happy with my meal. The portion is just enough :)

Delicious HK Style cafe! Had been here many times before and always ordered the Pork Chop and Chicken Steak on Rice 香煎鴛鴦扒飯. It's served with gravy and corn with diced carrots. It has been consistent throughout these years so far.

    Portuguese Chicken and Iced tea

Mambo Cafe is not to be missed when you're in Aberdeen, why? Their food is fresh, delish and cheap that I can satisfy HK cafe craving (eg.baked pork chop or Portuguese chicken on rice). Pork chop comes out baked with rice inside, whereas Portuguese chicken comes with rice and sauce in separate containers. Their Baked Porkchop is a must try on the menu. I really liked Portuguese Chicken Rice it can feed for 2 meals as I have a small appetite. A guy can eat it all and never feel hungry afterwards. Iced Tea is pretty good as well. If you're worried about portion control make sure you take half home for lunch. I had Portuguese Chicken Rice on my recent visit and it was troublesome finishing all the food on my own (plus the staff gave me too much rice when I asked for less rice). Bortsht soup is 50 cents once you order your food there. I'd love to try their soup next time.

One of my go to spots at the Aberdeen food court. Cash only! I ordered the baked seafood rice with iced milk tea. The dish took a while to be ready so feel free to walk around until your number is called!

This food court restaurant has curry lamb brisket! Big yum! The order came with a good amount of rice in a separate container. The bowl of lamb curry was just spicy enough to hurt a lot of people but perfect for me, it could have stood to have a little more salt but hell , salts supposed to be bad for you so what the heck. I'm starting to find a lot of food courts in the malls and in the supermarkets. Good deal on great food here in vancouver.

Curry beef on rice with milk tea

Great place for cheap HK style cafe food. I tried the baked pork chop on rice and the curry beef on rice with an iced milk tea. The baked pork chop seems quite popular here. It's freshly made, very hot and the portion is big. The pork chops do come with bones though. The curry beef was also pretty good but I thought the flavour was more on the mild side but still delish and I can't really complain since it's in the food court. Would recommend for comfort food!

    Simply the best!

This place has the BEST HK style baked pork chops with rice. Well to be fair, that's the only thing I order from them. The wait is never too long (about 10-15 mins) but it's so worth it! I always order to-go. The sauce, meat and rice were well portioned. And their milk tea was good too!

I tried almost every food stall at aberdeen and this was one I tried a long time ago so today I was craving fried food and thought I would give it a go again. I remember I used to get the fish and chips here and I really liked it. However, this time I got the pork cutlet with rice. I was kind of disappointed because nothing was good in this meal. The sauce was really bland and the pork cutlet was really tough to chew. Overall not really worth the money in my opinion. The good thing is that the wait was short even though it was a busy evening.

Cha Don has only been opened in Henderson Mall for 2 weeks and the line is insane. (Even went back a month later and it's still ridiculous.) Most of the dishes are under $16 but some of the items are not available till after 11:30. That's includes the baked rice dish and spaghetti and the minced pork patty rice series. This will quicken up the long time for those breakfast goers but sucks if you're craving either of those. So the first time I had gone, there were lots of mistakes in orders and the long lines. There was also a sign in front of the cashier stating that they will only take CASH or E-TRANSFER...So be prepared! By the look at more recent reviews, it seems like they're still working out the kinks and the line is still 30-45 minutes. Maybe by this spring they'll figure it out? Long lines at both the Yaohan and Henderson Mall locations speak to how popular it is, and the pricing sits in the affordable range for generous, full-meal plates rather than snack-sized portions. The overall value proposition is strong: you get real-deal HK café flavours without feeling like corners were cut. Dishes come out fast and hot, and the kitchen does not skimp on proteins--whether it's pork chops, chicken, or beef, plates feel properly loaded rather than padded with carbs. Despite the crowds, service is efficient and geared toward turnover, which suits the food court setting and keeps waits manageable once you've actually ordered. It's the kind of place where you grab your tray, sit, and eat rather than linger, but it delivers exactly what you come for. Given the combination of flavour, portion size, and price, Cha Don is an easy recommend for Hong Kong café fans looking for a quick, satisfying meal. The only real downside is the lineup; at peak times the queue can be enough to make you think twice. Still, if the line isn't too long, it's absolutely worth returning for another round.

Not sure if it has been the same chef/cook on Saturdays during breakfast and lunch time but the food hasn't been as tasty when compared to weekdays. Today we went for a family lunch gathering on a Saturday and the restaurant was jam packed. Not sure if this was also a factor but every single dish we ordered was so greasy. We also noticed that the portion wasn't as big as what we usually received on weekdays. The complementary soup that came was lukewarm so that was already one point off. The dishes when served were not presented nicely. For example, there was food hanging off the plate and pot (they eventually fell to floor) or spilled sauce on the table. Even my favorite dish stir fried beef rice noodles was just mediocre today. We ordered 6 dishes and every single dish was salty and greasy. It really felt like they were made in haste. It was overall a disappointment and I don't think I'd want to visit the restaurant on a Saturday again.

I really enjoyed their Hong Kong milk tea; it tasted authentic and properly brewed, just like what you'd find in a local cha chaan teng. The baked pork chop rice came bone-in -- a bit unexpected, decent but not spectacular. The fried chicken with rice was also just okay, nothing that stands out.
