    Three spice chicken and rice
    Vanessa S.

Food and service were great! We ordered three spice chicken and pork dumpling. The bao bun was huge! Everything had great flavor. Only reason I wouldn't give 5 stars is the ambiance. It's in a mall, cafeteria style which is fine but the mall itself didn't seem super kept up with cleaning wise. Good stop for quick snack though!

    Beef Noodles ($5.75)

Joy's Taiwanese Food is a food court restaurant at Parker Place in Richmond. It is the first place you see on your right as you walk through the food court entrance. The offerings are all very reasonably priced. There was no one in line. Though that did not dissuade me as the day I visited was very rainy and the food court was about to close shortly. I did see the review below about the beef noodle soup, but I decide to order it anyway as I needed something to warm me up from the cold evening night air. The price is cheap at just $5.75 but you get what you pay for here. The meal was served in a plastic bowl on a food tray. The soup lacked flavor and the noodles were just okay. The beef was decent, though I prefer when it is cut into larger chunks whereas the ones here are more like slivers. I do think the restaurant is worth a try if you like Taiwanese food. Prices are cheap and you should feel reasonably full. Though I would suggest skipping on the soup and going for one of the rice dishes here instead. Again, it is in the Parker Place food court so remember to stake out a table if it is busy. If you don't want to do that, get takeout or go during an off hour.

I literally grew up with Joy's Taiwanese. Originally located on Granville near No. 3 in a restaurant space, the food court version serves the same nostalgic, good quality and very affordable Taiwanese food that Richmond residents have grown to love. I always order their fried chicken thigh with rice. This is a must eat here, and the taste and quality has not changed since the original owner retired and passed on the family business to the son. A satisfying meal at less than $8. The chicken is first marinated then covered in batter (sweet potato starch mix I believe) and perfectly fried. Skin is always crispy, meat always juice and tender. Flavor is always point. Comes with stir fry Taiwanese cabbage, minced stew pork on white rice and pickled radish. Other menu items of note include the stewed pork intestine and marinated pig ears. They also do party platters that you can order in advance. My only complain is the short food court hours (closes at 7 pm) and food court setting. Highly recommended for classic Taiwanese food if you don't mind taking out food or eating at a food court.

Hidden Gem inside Parker Place Mall. My go-to here is the crispy friend chicken leg and I'll add a marinated egg for $1. Everything tastes homey here and the owner Joy has been here for ae

    * Food court Taiwanese * This corner spot under a brightly lit sign (http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/Ki41sNwDpwG2AQZawCHJ8w?select=-fDThvYD0WhHu9eMzHMfKg) had a grumpy grandma behind the counter whom I am assuming is named "Joy" because she certainly wasn't "joy"ful. She isn't big on talking or smiling, but dishes out some decent Taiwanese grub for a food court. I had the Taiwanese fried chicken on rice. It was a very generous portion of light non-greasy fried chicken served on top of rice with some Taiwanese side dishes and a small scoop of frozen veggies (meh). The cabbage with fungus was the best of the sides. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/Ki41sNwDpwG2AQZawCHJ8w?select=IT2G3EwEOBP7aJfAfKjVvA Overall a nice quick and tasty lunch spot even with the grumpy grandma!

Fast service, always excellent food, decent pricing @ $7-$8 a rice bowl or box with a drink. This food court restaurant at Parker Place always has a line up so you know it's good ;) *assume it's cash only Go for: quick service, excellent food, decent pricing Don't go for: parking is so horrible that maybe you should consider looking up a receipe online, go grocery shopping, sort out the rest of your life, and cook at home before coming and finding parking around Parker Place

The owners use to have a restaurant on Granville and No3 (called Lins) but closed down about 10 years ago due to condo development in that area. I thought this gem was gone for good until my friend told me they opened at Parker place. The food is still really good. The best dishes are the spicy wonton, beef roll and deep fried chicken on rice. Get a drink for $1 if you order an entree. We have the same dishes every time we go. Not a big fan of their noodle soups.

We all know and love Joy's Taiwanese food. They're the original from when they had a shop on near the city hall. They're famous for their noodle soups but did you know they make a fantastic Taiwanese pork bun? Now they're doing take out party trays of their famous dishes for you to order in advance and take home. What a great idea! Of course this isn't new, but it's nice to know you can now take a big tray of Joy home with you.

It's not quite as good as what you'd get in China, but definitely not bad -- and there was actual soup inside, which I appreciated. They also had a strong assortment of dim sum and classic dishes. Service was fast and really accommodating. Would definitely recommend.

Crab Claw - No idea why we decided to have this as lunch, was pretty impulsive - did take some time to arrive , very meaty , so nothing to complain about. Fried Tofu - was the dish highlight, nice crisp with a warm soft interior, spiced to perfection! Wine drunken Chicken - was soft and juicy, however aside from the cooking wine taste, there wasn't anything more to add. I would skip a re-visit , as Richmond is pretty competitive, however it's not bad and worth a shot.

She wanted to go to Kirin. Plenty of parking in the mall. Hostess greeted and seated us promptly. Restaurant was busy but not crazy. This was at 10am on a Thursday. Waiters were attentive. Usual table service was in place. Took our order and food came out at acceptable pace. When we were done, they politely boxed up the leftovers and we paid our bill. So service was on point. The food we ordered came out hot. The staples that I order to test was hargow, suimai and pai gwut(spareribs). All 3 dishes in general were good.....the hargow could have used an extra minute or 2 in the steamer. The suimai was very good. I tasted every ingredient in this dish. Usually it is just a complete mix and you can't discern the different flavors. They tried something different with the cheongfun by adding pieces of Chinese donut to the roll. I personally think it didn't add much to the dish, taste or texture wise. I did like the pea shoots with shrimp. I think it is a good combo. All in all a good dimsum. I also noticed they did not charge us a tea service. The cost of the food is comparable with other restaurants at this level. On a typical Sunday evening, the restaurant is usually fully occupied, but my friend had thoughtfully made a reservation a week in advance, so our table for five was ready upon arrival. As always, the restaurant was clean and well maintained, with good airflow thanks to the wide-open front entrance facing the parkade. The front desk receptionist greeted us cordially, and we were escorted to a cozy table in a comfortable location -- not too close to the washrooms, which I appreciated. Our meal began with the Kirin Special Assorted Cold Appetizer, followed by Crab Meat, Dried Scallops, and Fish Maw Soup. The soup arrived piping hot and was delicious, with a generous portion that could easily have served eight people. We also enjoyed Pea Tips Braised with Bean Curd and Assorted Mushrooms in Consommé, Marinated Free-Range Crispy Skin Chicken, Fillet of Cod Sautéed with Seasonal Vegetables, and Live Crab in Consommé with Ginger and Green Onion, served with E-fu Noodles. Overall, the quality and taste of every entrée were excellent. Service was top-notch -- tea and hot water were refilled constantly, bones and used plates were replaced promptly, and the servers were friendly and engaging throughout the evening. My friend and his family have apparently been regulars at this location for over two decades, which likely contributed to the exceptional attentiveness we received. However, one aspect of the experience genuinely disturbed me. All servers, including the captains, continued to wear masks at all times. While this practice was understandable two years ago, now -- five years after the onset of the pandemic, with COVID-19 managed similarly to other seasonal respiratory illnesses -- the continued universal masking in a fine-dining environment feels unnecessary and detracts from the overall guest experience. Fine dining, in my view as an avid foodie, is built on human connection, hospitality, and personal interaction. Masks create a more impersonal, almost clinical atmosphere. In a well-ventilated space like this, the environmental risk does not seem to justify the visual and social trade-off. Rather than providing reassurance, the persistent masking may unintentionally signal that the environment is unsafe or that management is out of step with current provincial health guidelines, where masking is now a personal choice rather than a mandate. Final verdict: Food & Service: 5/5 Ambience: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 -- as the current aesthetic feels more like a relic of 2020 than a leader in 2026 hospitality.

We made a reservation on OpenTable (which is a rare platform to use among Chinese restaurants in Greater Vancouver). We were seated a few minutes after arrival. The space feels energetic. It's a more modern restaurant, so there is much color and younger vibrancy than a traditional Chinese restaurant. What else is different? No round tables - only smaller square tables - which means it's better designed for small groups rather than large groups. We ended up trying a number of items: - Beef Belly Skewers: Very good. Everyone loved them. I wished we had ordered more. - Chicken Skewers: Ok. I think asked for something but they ran out and gave us gizzards and hearts, which are never good because they become mealy and not enjoyable to eat. - Dungeness Crab with Salty Egg Yolk: Good. Prepared as well as lots of restaurants. They provide disposable gloves to eat with, but nothing to crack the shells. - Stir Fried Vegetables: Good. No complaints. - Fresh Fish with Tofu Hot Pot: Very good. - Fresh Fish Steamed: Very good. - Lobster with Sticky Rice: Very good. Service is really very good. Genuinely more friendly and talkative than I'm accustomed too, but I appreciated. Overall, a good meal. It was different in that the decor and service is what really stood out, and that's the difference maker compared to most other Chinese restaurants with the same quality of food. We tried the braised combo (pork ear, pork intestines, fish cake), Taiwanese egg wrap, braised pork sauce rice with deep fried pork chop, and yam taro mochi balls. The braised combo is pretty solid - I didn't really like the funkiness to the intestines (I generally enjoyed it in barbecue settings) but the fish cake was fantastic. I also liked the texture of the pork ears. The Taiwanese egg wrap was a bit tasteless, so I wouldn't recommend. Braised pork sauce rice is the lu ruo fan which is a large portion with seaweed, bean sprouts, and soup on the side. Pork chop was flavorful and juicy but not crispy batter, which is okay. Yam taro mochi balls were sweet and chewy. I don't like taro but I loved this dessert! Service is okay. They give a water jug for self pour but the water jug was of questionable cleanliness. The specials were not discounted so we called it out and we weren't told that we had to put the order with a server, not the QR code, so it was a strange interaction. They ended up honoring the discount. Also, they shut down ordering 1 min before 10:30pm - guess they didn't want more money as we wanted to order 1 more dish and they preemptively told the kitchen to close.
