I went here back in April to get some yummy lunch and Joy's Taiwanese Kitchen came to my mind after surfing Yelp. I was excited to try some Taiwanese dishes here. There was no indoor seating back then so I had Beef Noodle ($9.50) and Chicken Nuggets ($6.50) to go. Beef Noodle was good, but chicken nugget were dry and lukewarm. I wanted the nuggets to be crispy as well and it was overcooked. I personally felt waiting time was bit long since the staff was so behind. The food was alright. I thought the food would be pretty good, but it was alright. I'd prefer to eat in Aberdeen or other Taiwanese restaurant though. This place is cash only. read more

A destination along the tour of the Taiwanese "gua bao" in Vancouver. Gus bao is essentially a slice of tasty pork belly in a steam bun. Currently a hot thing told to me by a bunch of wannabe restauranteurs. By far this gua bao at this place is a bar higher so far than anything I recently have encountered. A tad too sugary otherwise there is nothing I can really complain about. Joy Taiwanese is an oldish establishment and still commands a fairly lengthy line during lunch is telling. Friendly staff and pretty fast. Food is tasty and cheap. Parking out right outside the plaza mall, Joy's Taiwanese Kitchen is in the food court, right by the door. Tables in front of the place as it's a food court, but if the weather is nice, you can take it out to the park nearby to eat too. Quite a few options to choose from. Their scallion pancake is simple but great, made fresh daily so slightly longer wait and usually only available in the afternoon. Would go back when I'm around the area! read more

Food and service were great! We ordered three spice chicken and pork dumpling. The bao bun was huge! Everything had great flavor. Only reason I wouldn't give 5 stars is the ambiance. Joy's Taiwanese Food is a food court restaurant at Parker Place in Richmond. It is the first place you see on your right as you walk through the food court entrance. The offerings are all very reasonably priced. There was no one in line. Though that did not dissuade me as the day I visited was very rainy and the food court was about to close shortly. I did see the review below about the beef noodle soup, but I decide to order it anyway as I needed something to warm me up from the cold evening night air. The price is cheap at just $5.75 but you get what you pay for here. The meal was served in a plastic bowl on a food tray. The soup lacked flavor and the noodles were just okay. The beef was decent, though I prefer when it is cut into larger chunks whereas the ones here are more like slivers. I do think the restaurant is worth a try if you like Taiwanese food. Prices are cheap and you should feel reasonably full. Though I would suggest skipping on the soup and going for one of the rice dishes here instead. Again, it is in the Parker Place food court so remember to stake out a table if it is busy. If you don't want to do that, get takeout or go during an off hour. read more

I literally grew up with Joy's Taiwanese. Originally located on Granville near No. 3 in a restaurant space, the food court version serves the same nostalgic, good quality and very affordable Taiwanese food that Richmond residents have grown to love. I always order their fried chicken thigh with rice. This is a must eat here, and the taste and quality has not changed since the original owner retired and passed on the family business to the son. A satisfying meal at less than $8. The chicken is first marinated then covered in batter (sweet potato starch mix I believe) and perfectly fried. Skin is always crispy, meat always juice and tender. Flavor is always point. Comes with stir fry Taiwanese cabbage, minced stew pork on white rice and pickled radish. Other menu items of note include the stewed pork intestine and marinated pig ears. They also do party platters that you can order in advance. My only complain is the short food court hours (closes at 7 pm) and food court setting. Highly recommended for classic Taiwanese food if you don't mind taking out food or eating at a food court. read more

The store owner made me feel like an idiot when I was given the wrong amount of change. I gave her $27.50 expecting $11.50 of change, and she only gave me $6 back. She was distracted on the phone while giving me change and wouldn't admit to her own fault. I was very surprised when she gave me back only $6. She asked me why I would give her $27.50 when the bill was only $16.50. I said I wanted $11 back to save on the number of bills in my wallet. It was a very generous portion of light non-greasy fried chicken served on top of rice with some Taiwanese side dishes and a small scoop of frozen veggies (meh). The owners use to have a restaurant on Granville and No3 (called Lins) but closed down about 10 years ago due to condo development in that area. I thought this gem was gone for good until my friend told me they opened at Parker place. The food is still really good. The best dishes are the spicy wonton, beef roll and deep fried chicken on rice. Get a drink for $1 if you order an entree. We have the same dishes every time we go. We all know and love Joy's Taiwanese food. They're the original from when they had a shop on near the city hall. They're famous for their noodle soups but did you know they make a fantastic Taiwanese pork bun? Now they're doing take out party trays of their famous dishes for you to order in advance and take home. What a great idea! Another gem in the PP (haha) food court! It's not gourmet, but for a quick Taiwanese fix, it'll suffice! I've tried their beef rolls and minced meat on rice, both were authentic and pretty tasty! Every meal comes with a free hot drink or $1 for iced. read more

Last review done in 2011 led me to wonder how good this place is. Let's just say I am not very impressed with anything other than the price. Ordered the beef noodle, vermicelli with shredded pork, and fried chicken. The beef noodle was lackluster. Soup had a strong beef aroma but lacked any taste. Noodles were tender as well as the few pieces of vegetable. The bowl only had 4 small pieces of beef. I had Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup at Joy's for the second time in about 6 months. I'm from Calgary and we are deprived of this soup. There's no place in Calgary to get a good soup like this despite the reviews some people write extolling the virtues of some restaurants. Anyway, this soup at Joy's is really good and a reasonable price. It's at a food court with many independent vendors. I also had popcorn chicken which I enjoyed.
