This place so was busy at 8 PM! They have been rated as one of Canada's 100 Best Restaurants in 2025 and I can totally understand why. I shared the Sour Cabbage Fish Pot with two other friends and the portion was so big, we still had leftovers. The fish was fresh and the overall quality was really good. The soup here is drinkable and not too salty (unlike some other places I've been to). I'd definitely come back here to try the Mala Fish Pot!
5 stars for the black pepper Dungeness crab alone - so delicious; perfectly cooked, and the peppercorn coating was well-balanced/not overwhelming. The natural sweetness of the crab really shined. We will come back solely for this dish. Other seafood items that we ordered were fairly good, too (although it's hard to mess up steamed whole fish/shrimp). Service was excellent: drinks refilled regularly, shells cleared, plates replaced. Our server made some astute recommendations, too, regarding the menu items (geoduck 2 ways was spot-on). I wish they'd had spot prawns and whole scallops available, but they have what they have in season on any given Sunday.
We revisited Fishman for dinner. I still remember how their seafood dishes were outstanding from previous visit. This time, we ordered crab again. What we ordered: Limited Gigantic snow crab 3lb with salted egg yolk sauce - highly recommended by staff Seafood fried rice Baked large beach oyster with four unique flavors. Highlight was definitely snow crab! Salted egg yolk sauce was great as usual, crab meat was so tender and sweet! I am glad to follow staff's advice. Presentation was good, too. Rice cake was chewy, soft and paired with sauce so well and so addictive. Seafood fried rice was also great! Clam was so juicy and delicious! prawn was nicely firm and very good. Ingredients were outstanding. And Baked beach oyster was also great item. Oyster paired with each unique different flavor(Forgot to ask what kinds of each flavor..), Oyster itself was very large and creamy. Highly recommend this item, too. Overall, our revisit to Fishman was another great experience. Restaurant was packed, No doubt this restaurant is very popular for long time.
the fish man feels like something has changed compared to how it used to be. it doesn't quite hit as hard as it once did, when the flavours were bolder, punchier, and more memorable overall. this visit felt more restrained. the prawn dish, which used to be loaded with dried chilies and minced garlic, now comes with green and red peppers and a softer, more toned down flavour. it's still decent, just not as distinctive or intense as before. the seafood fried rice also felt more standard this time, with less wok hei and that smoky depth that used to set it apart. it was properly made, just less seafood and less memorable. the pea tips were the highlight, well executed with garlic and good wok hei, and closest to the quality we remember from earlier visits. we also had chicken yakitori, a small portion, five skewers with slightly fatty meat and simple seasoning, which was pleasant but not particularly memorable. the watermelon juice was fresh, light, and refreshing. service was polite and efficient, though the dining room felt a bit more transactional, with newer staff and less of the familiar flow the restaurant used to have. overall, still a decent seafood spot in richmond, but something has definitely changed. it doesn't feel quite as bold or distinctive as it once did, even though the food is still solid and the experience runs smoothly.

The Fish Man was probably our favorite meal during our winter road trip. We made reservations thinking that we might try the king crab. We changed our mind on the king crab since we were only a party of 3. We ended up ordering a geoduck clam two ways, as sashimi and poached, a Dungeness crab with salted egg yolk, and a seafood fried rice. The food was fantastic. The clam whether poached or sashimi was briny and had a great crunch to it. It was very good with a little bit of lemon. The crab came with fried rice cakes. The salted egg yolk gave it a nice flavor. They cooked it perfectly. The fried rice was one of the best fried rice that we've ever had. The rice came with full size shrimp. We weren't expecting dessert, but, I think because our family of 3 ordered so much, they gave us a complimentary dessert. We enjoyed everything about our meal at the Fish Man. We definitely will have to visit this place again.
If you like seafood definitely go and try them! Very fresh seafood and lots of choices. Pricing is fair and flavour is good. Parking is a bit of a pain though. It is on a very busy street with many restaurants. Service is good. The seating is good and not too tight.
My family went here for dinner based on its recognition in the Chinese Restaurant Awards (2022), Vancouver Magazine Best Restaurants Awards (2024) and countless Instagram reviews. We made a reservation on OpenTable (which is a rare platform to use among Chinese restaurants in Greater Vancouver). We were seated a few minutes after arrival. The space feels energetic. It's a more modern restaurant, so there is much color and younger vibrancy than a traditional Chinese restaurant. What else is different? No round tables - only smaller square tables - which means it's better designed for small groups rather than large groups. We ended up trying a number of items: - Beef Belly Skewers: Very good. Everyone loved them. I wished we had ordered more. - Chicken Skewers: Ok. I think asked for something but they ran out and gave us gizzards and hearts, which are never good because they become mealy and not enjoyable to eat. - Dungeness Crab with Salty Egg Yolk: Good. Prepared as well as lots of restaurants. They provide disposable gloves to eat with, but nothing to crack the shells. - Stir Fried Vegetables: Good. No complaints. - Fresh Fish with Tofu Hot Pot: Very good. - Fresh Fish Steamed: Very good. - Lobster with Sticky Rice: Very good. Service is really very good. Genuinely more friendly and talkative than I'm accustomed too, but I appreciated. Overall, a good meal. It was different in that the decor and service is what really stood out, and that's the difference maker compared to most other Chinese restaurants with the same quality of food. That being said, you pay for it too. I definitely enjoyed it, but it better suited for a small groups rather than large ones.
Fish Man Restaurant is such a great find! The food was fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. Everything we ordered was delicious. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes -- late night special, $99 special crab or lobster w/3 dishes, definitely great value for the money. On top of that, the service was warm and friendly. Overall, a fantastic dining experience -- we'll definitely be back!
The Fish Man is a great spot for fresh seafood. We the seasonal meal. The mala razor clams were the highlight as it was great flavor and texture! The lobster was slightly disappointing as it lacked flavor or depth. The lobster itself felt fresh, but seems a bit small/little meat for 3lb. Would love to go back and try other things on their menu. Staff was friendly and able to answer all of our questions. There were plenty of tables available at 1:30pm. You can see the live seafood tanks in the back. There is a free small parking lot behind of the restaurant that can easily fill up. The spots are a bit tight.
Fish Man has always had a decent reputation in Richmond, and coming back after 2 years, i was very disappointed by how far the quality has fallen. I was recommended by a friend to try their sour cabbage fish, but unfortunately the dish was some how more sweet than sour, with a strong taste of MSG that didnt even contribute to the umami that MSG is known for. We ordered the ling cod, but it did not taste too fresh. The clams we ordered, although big, was also underseasoned, and a bit undercooked too giving it a slightly fishy taste that a sign of poor quality int the raw ingredient. Overall, a bland disppointment. The prawns however, were pretty good. The skins were crispy, flavourful and easy to eat! We also tried some of their bbq skewers, and that too was quite mid. Nothing to special about it. While the service is average and the environment lively, the quality food is not up to par anymore, and given the general quality of chinese food in richmond, i would not waste a meal here.
This is a fantastic place for Chinese seafood, particularly the ingredients and cooking. Everything was incredibly fresh and juicy. Seafood should be fresh and less salty with more natural flavours. If you don't like their cooking style then that's your problem and you shouldn't bother with Chinese seafood or Chinese food. The only thing holding it back from a perfect five stars is the service and price. I understand the price considering the location and BC but the service is lacking.
The first thought I had when the sour lingcod dish came out was that it is so much bigger than anything served in restaurants in NYC! The flavor was still very on point although I would have liked it spicier. The other main fish we ordered, which was a rockfish on their signature grill with a mix of toppings, was a bit less exciting as it tasted a bit over cooked and not spicy enough. It could have been an off hour because the restaurant was technically on lunch break when we came in. The skewers were also mostly delicious, but a few pieces were a bit over cooked as well and ate dry. The chicken wing ended up being the best, with the intestine being a second. All the appetizers were great, with my personal favorite being the cold tofu and thousand year egg dish.

The Fish Man lived up to the hype. Reservations are helpful because the restaurant was packed, and we still waited about 5-10 minutes after arriving. We found street parking, though there appeared to be a few spaces behind the restaurant if you're lucky enough to snag one. The ambiance is bright and lively, but people are definitely here for the food. Service was friendly and efficient, with servers, runners, and other staff constantly refilling water and clearing tables. We started with the scallops and vermicelli. They came with plenty of garlic, but the scallops were somewhat overcooked and tougher than I prefer--about three stars for that dish. The mala hotpot with lingcod was the star of the meal, with a wonderful balance of tongue-numbing spice, deep flavor, fish, and vegetables. The clams were equally delicious, served in a sweet and spicy sauce that was so good I kept stopping the staff from clearing the plate so I could spoon more of it over my white rice. The yu choy with garlic sauce had an excellent crunch and plenty of flavor, making it a great vegetable dish to balance the meal. The Coedo Yuzu beer paired beautifully with the spicy food and had a pleasantly sweet, citrusy taste. An excellent meal overall and absolutely worth the visit. Enjoy! read more
We only came here by accident - was trying to go eat ramen and saw all the hustle and bustle around the place, saw that it was in Canada Top 100! Glad we gave it a try. This is the place to come to have northern Chinese style seafood, especially fish. You choose from hotpot, soup, or steamed fish and get tons of fresh choices. You can choose for the hotpot the soup, weight of fish, veggies, spiciness level, and other adjustments. It is HUGE! We chose the nonspicy soup, with package of tofu skin, lotus root, seaweed knots. The fish is pretty good. Good flavour - though I have to admit I'm not one to try the spicy, but don't worry the soy no spicy flavour is still pretty flavourful. I got some rice to go with it and I definitely recommend something to go otherwise it's pretty soupy. The other dishes were reflective of a very high quality place. - cucumber salad was excellent. I loved the peanuts in there to contrast. - I LOVED the Morel mushroom and tofu. It was amazing. The morel... wow. So succulent. Brown sauce has great balance too. - I really liked the fried rice. It's spam I think and really hits the spot. Not salty, seems just light enough. The service was excellent too. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended. read more

The one star is for the food. The service deserves zero stars. I have never experienced this kind of treatment in Canada before. Throughout our visit, the waitress directed almost all of her attention to my husband. She explained everything to him in detail while barely acknowledging me. I was left to read the menu and figure out what to order on my own. I also noticed the same behavior at other tables. She spoke primarily to the men while largely ignoring the women. Even after I placed the entire order for our table, she continued checking only with my husband about everything we needed. When it came to drinks, after the two men had placed their orders, she didn't even ask me if I wanted anything before walking away, as if I were invisible. At the end of the meal, after I paid the bill, she turned to my husband, smiled only at him, and completely ignored me. It was extremely impolite and made me feel disrespected. The food was good, but the service was the worst part of the experience. Based on how I was treated, it felt discriminatory. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and ensures that every customer is treated with equal respect. read more

02.12.26 @4:20pm Walk in for table of 2 and got seated. We ordered the Dungeon crab w. Typhoon style, Abalone w. Steamed, with Vermicelli and seafood Sauce and half dozen oysters. Everything was cooked preferably and favorable. read more
Ambiance--really nice decor with parking in the back and street parking. Service--service was a mixed bag and I was left a little confused. We didn't have reservations but the restaurant was empty. The host came across with his comment as if they were going to make an exception for us. It was 4:15pm. The tea cup was dirty (orange grease food stain that was put in the clean pile) so had to replace that after I requested. We ordered rice and it wasn't until after the food was brought out and we requested that the rice came out. In addition, the food platters didnt have serving spoons. Had to ask for ther and got one small spoon. Food--the lobster was ok. Main seasoning was salt. I didn't taste the ginger flavor or scallion flavor despite having it in the lobster. The pea sprouts were ok. The shrimp was really good. The shrimp would be the one motivation for my partner to come back and then we would try the other dishes. read more
Richmond is the place for some fantastic, wonderfully fresh seafood. The Fish Man is the restaurant to eat at if you're looking for fresh, whole fish cooked in a variety of different styles and sauces to select from. We ordered the special fish of the day, which was a flathead mullet. The server told us the smallest one will be about 2lbs. We opted for black bean sauce and added in a golden combo (cabbage, lotus root, seaweed, and bean curd) cooked along with the fish. We also ordered some ribeye beef skewers and the jumbo prawns. The fish comes out in a pan that is on charcoal briquettes that burned for about 30 min, the perfect amount of time for us to finish the dish piping hot the whole time. The server brought out the live, flapping fish to make sure the size and look of it was acceptable to us before they cooked it. There was so much food! We pretty much ate the entire fish and the skewers. We had some prawns leftover. Everything was amazing and fresh. Seafood is definitely the thing to order here. We'll skip on the beef skewers next time. The restaurant is pretty big and was full the entire time we were there. They open late so a great place for a late meal if in the area. The bill for two people came out to under $120 USD which is a good deal for the amount of food and the quality. This is a definite return again the next time we're in Richmond. read more

This was an amazing Alaskan King Crab lunch experience. The presentation, the freshness and the service was all on point. Make sure you save up and bring your friends and family. It's pricey, but well worth the money. This experience will cost you a pretty penny. So don't come here if you're a penny pincher or on a budget. This is a splurge for sure. However it is well worth it. Come for lunch to get the Royal treatment read more
This was honestly one of the best meals we had in Vancouver! Everything we ordered was superb and incredibly delicious. We got the rock cod with sour cabbage sauce and the lobster with sticky rice. The fish tasted fresh and it was huge! Our meal was very satisfying meal and I wish we ordered more dishes. It's a great place for bigger parties because everything is shareable. read more

If you're craving for seafood, I'd say Fish Man has a wide selection. They also have a variety of cooking styles and sauces. Truly an enjoyable meal with Grouper Fish, sea cucumber, wings too. Interior is contemporary and modern with long tables. It's good for groups too. Most servers can speaks English so we didn't have difficulty ordering. The pictured menu is not too comprehensive of their entire menu but server guides you through how to order. read more

This place is definitely a place to take a bunch of friends who love seafood and meat on sticks! Definitely order their Asahi Big Boy 2L beer, lamb skewers and the Sour Cabbage Lingcod. The soup/broth from the sour cabbage lingcod was to die for! It was so tasty that I ended up dreaming about it! read more
Above average prices but amazing dishes. Service isn't too bad considering how busy this place is. Important to make reservations or the wait is long. All the dishes hit the spot. The seafood fried rice has large chunks of seafood in it too. Great bustling place for family and friends if you can get a table. read more

I wanted to take my mom to a place that had delicious and fresh seafood, so after some searching on Yelp, I decided to give The Fish Man a try. I made a reservation for a Thursday evening, and found the place was pretty packed. After being seated, we were given menus, which offered a wide array of seafood options, as well as skewers. My party ordered beef brisket skewers, lamb skewers, Thai curry dungeoness crab, scallops and vermicelli, geoduck in scallion and ginger sauce, and a pork belly and chanterelle mushroom stir fry. Our favorite items were the lamb skewers, dungeoness crab, scallops, and pork belly and chanterelle mushroom stir fry. The lamp was well seasoned (cumin peppercorn seasoning) and very tender. The crab was nearly 3lbs, and very fresh. The Thai curry sauce paired well with the crab and is very tasty with the rice it is served over. The scallops were very garlicky, which I personally like. Surprisingly, I disliked the beef brisket skewers, which had a very gamey flavor. I also did not like the geoduck dish, as it was very bland. I would definitely recommend this place if you like seafood. I didn't try the fish and sour cabbage dishes, but it seems like the most popular thing people here order. read more

Outstanding fresh quality seafood with very flavorful sauces! We came on a Saturday night and it was super busy. We were lucky to have a reservation though but if you are planning on walking in, be prepared to wait a bit. This is an expensive meal, and you will be dropping $$$ as it is a seafood joint. For our table of 6, we ordered black bean Manila clams, pea sprouts, claypot with oyster, abalone, tofu, salted egg yolk snow crab, seafood fried rice, and the lingcod grilled fish pot. The service was very minimal. We tried to flag down a server many times but failed :/ Before our food was cooked, our waitress showed us the raw seafood they were going to prepare for us (customary for Chinese seafood dishes). The food was pretty good. We loved the claypot, clams, and crab. For the price, I would expect to be really blown away. It was good, but the total came out to more than $300. Im glad I tried this place but personally, I would only come here again if someone else was picking up the bill haha read more
We made reservations for 5 people on a weeknight. They weren't that busy so it probably wasn't necessary. Our friends raved about this place, but we were taken aback with how much stuff there was on the menu! We ended up ordering: The grill with lingcod (for less bones), in the savoury spicy flavour (it wasn't very spicy at all), with enoki mushrooms, bean curd, and tofu. We also ordered 5 skewers of beef ribeye and 10 skewers of the fatty beef (because you have to get 5+ of each skewer). The mussels were great, we loved the black bean sauce. Not pictured was cucumber salad which was also great. They must have mistyped our order as they'd forgotten a few things which we ended up cancelling rather than wait. The service was alright, the prices were far too expensive for the taste, but the experience was new and cool! I'd recommend everyone to try it! read more

This was our first time going to this restaurant, and I have to say that our experience was amazing. Let's start with the food everything we got was lip-Smacking, finger-licking delicious. I went into this restaurant not even liking mussels but by the time I finished eating mussels are my new favorite, the sauce that the mussels and the clams was cooked in was so delicious. The seafood fried rice had big old pieces of shrimp and crab. It was so good. Service was good. The staff were very respectful. The ambience was beautiful. I love everything about this restaurant. read more

A great place to go for fresh Hong Kong style spicy garlic fried crab. Very fresh, very crispy, not greasy at all. Also features a modern minimalist interior and attentive service staff. The small parking lot in the back can fill up though. read more
Best meal I had during a recent trip to Richmond..... and its is so good I would consider driving the 200 miles to eat again. However, there is a queue even if you make a reservation, and the wait is not much shorter. When we got there, the queue was 45minutes. A lady arriving just behind us also with a party of two was told that she had to wait 30 minutes even though she was 5 minutes early for her reservation! We came for the hot-pot fish, and so we ordered one. A medium ling cod with the sour cabbage flavour and Golden Combo sides that turned out to be huge. Great value, great taste, and great service once you get seated. Long wait though.... and I'm not going to take away a star for that. read more

Food: 3/5 - Not as good as I expected, if you like Lobster, I do not recommend it since it was a little bland. If you like Oysters, I recommend the "Beach Oysters" - this was one of the best dish they had. Aside from that, I liked the skewers (my recommendation: Beef Tongue!!). Service: 5/5 - the people here are incredibly nice and welcoming. They provided some recommendations on the dishes and also gave some grapes at the end. Ambiance: 3/5 - Pretty nice and clean restaurant; however, the location they are at is not as nice. Parking: There are parking in the back of the restaurant but the area was pretty dirty and it looks a bit shady so I was worried a bit when we parked there... especially going with the kids. Wait Time: No wait time at all because the restaurant was empty, I came here during the weekday around 3pm.. and there were only 2 other parties there. read more

It was quite busy during lunch on the weekend, but it is definitely worth a visit. The interior is nicely decorated and cute and we were seated fairly quickly despite how busy it was. The servers were attentive and did a good job! We ordered the grilled fish in a medium size. We chose the sour cabbage option and it was so good. The fish was soft and easy to scoop up and mix with the rice. I recommend coming here with a small party just to get the fish. The skewers were also very flavorful. I definitely prefer the meat skewers over the squid for the flavors, but the squid does have a fun chewy texture. Overall, I recommend this place and will be going back! read more
