A pound of snow crab and egg and corn
    Joey Y.

I ordered a pound of snow crab and an egg and corn. I got the captain sauce which was bomb but the crab meat seemed like it's old and overcooked. The corn was dry and not juicy. The egg was just a regular hard boiled egg. For the lobster roll, it was good. If you don't like celery, you should ask for less! The service was great. The server kept check up on me to see how the food was.

The Captains Boil has always been more of a curiosity to me than a 'must try.' Actually wanted to go to a Korean restaurant close by but it wasn't open yet so went here instead. Should have waited the extra half hour for the Korean restaurant to open. The Captains Boil was just ok. Perhaps it would have be better to come in with a large group or family. Might get more bang for your buck that way!? Regardless, it's quite pricey if you want the 'good stuff' seafood - see menu pix! I wasn't prepared to spend so much knowing there's excellent Happy Hours all over Metro Vancouver were one can get excellent seafood - at the right price. Over 100 bucks for seafood - it better be friggin orgasmic! Right!? We had the Lobster Sliders with Cajun Fries (the Cajun Fries at Popeyes are way better) & the Garlic Shrimp - specials offered before 5pm. There was just nothing exciting about this experience - food tasted ok but had zero razzmatazz. Sad! Would I return? Only with a large group as a means of gauging if the Captain's Boil is any good at all. If you are planning on coming here, I recommend you have a look at the menu ahead of time & give yourself an idea of what to expect price wise.

Heads up that this is a restaurant where you use your hands to eat. Costumers are provided with plastic bib and gloves, I have witnessed a costumer who left as theirs no spoons provided, that was two years ago, just ask nicely and they surely will provide utensils. Been here many times, and was always satisfied with their services, I love the foods the spicy level and Richmond branch is so far the best to me compared to other area. You can either go with their combo's or by pounds, if its your first time, I recommend the combo as it has all four types of seafood. The menu is very detailed choose the meat, the sauce the spicy level. They have delicious sauce type and my favourite would be the Cajun and garlic. If you have high spicy level, go for the fire or volcano level. Some complain its messy, but I think its up to the one eating how organize you are, theirs a bucket provided to put shells, or just on the table. So far the price has always been consistent, and cleanliness was well observed, I highly recommend this area to seafood lovers and spicy eaters, their are other non seafood as well such as chicken, vegetables and fries.

It was right desicion to chose here for dine in after 2 months self isolation. I don't remember how many times I said hmmmmmm closing eyes. Those dishes have to be eaten right here on the table. We had mid level of Captain boil spice with dungeness crab, clams, shrimp, potato, okra, lotus roots and rice. Everything tasted delicious and we combined two bags to enjoy left sauce with rice at last. Maybe not good behavior but so good. All seafood extract comes together. I highly recommend the deep fried lotus roots which has interesting texture and lots of sauce in the holes. It was eye opening deliciousness.

I tried this place 2 years ago, but decided to try it again after coming across it on DoorDash! Gotta say, it was delicious!! I had the garlic shrimp! As someone who is an extreme seafood lover, this satisfied my cravings!! I've tried their Cajun fries and it was delicious as well!!! After going there a few years ago, ordering in during the weekends for me is always the better option! The parking could be something they could work on, considering it's so packed! It's competitive to get a spot on sunny weekends! Overall, will order in again! It was fast and quite tasty!

Been here twice and our experienced was very good. The place is not that busy so we were seated right away. The place is very spacious and staff are very friendly. This branch is very consistent with their quality of sauce as it's very tasty and flavorful. Was happy with our visit.

Captain's Boil is a franchise. I am not a big fan of Captain's Boil seafood because the flavors doesn't seem to be there. Most of their seafood are frozen and are already cooked but than recooked with the sauces or seasoning. Seems a bit lacking and most of the time its not like super fresh but they still charge premium for it. This Captain's Boil has the Lobster Roll Combo offered for $14.95. It comes with Lobster Bisque and a Lobster Roll. The bisque was so so. It didn't taste like Lobster Bisque at all. It was super salty. The Lobster Roll was good but it was only good because the lobsters were served on a garlic bread. Of course its good. Anything garlicy in my mind is tasty. Definitely not the traditional Lobster Roll that I am used to. I also got the fried shrimps on top. It was ok. It came with fries and I have to say the fries were good. They were seasoned in Cajun spices. Overall it was ok. Parking is plentiful outside. I probably won't come back. Its not like something I would be craving for.

I have been to the Captain's Boil at least a dozen times. Always a good time, good service, and of course good sea food. Personally, I mostly only care about shrimp so I cannot speak much to the other menu items. the AYCE deal is good only if you know you can eat more than 2lbs. Otherwise, buying at regular price may end up being cheaper. Happy to see that they brought back the good sauce mix with garlic and everything else after it went downhill for a while around a year ago.

Great experience and great food. We ordered the pirate's feast which came with our choice of crab, 1lb each of shrimp, mussels, and clams, seafood fried rice, cajun fries, and a whole bunch of sides. There was more than enough food to feed 4 people and we were all very satisfied. The crab was perfectly cooked and had a good amount of meat, the mussels were massive and very flavourful, the clams were a bit small but were still good, and some of the shrimp were overcooked and mushy but that did not ruin the meal for us. We all enjoyed eating with our hands, which adds to the positive experience of this place. It's definitely a treat to come here as the flavours can be very heavy and the prices aren't cheap, but overall everyone had a great time!

A lb of garlic mussel and Cajun clam.
    Lucy D.

We came in hungry and craving seafood. We walked out pretty satisfied. We ordered a lb of mussel, clam and shrimp each. Mussel was cooked in garlic sauce and that was the best. Clam and shrimp were cooked in Cajun. The spice was mild and good. We also added 2 portions of lotus root which was a lot. Overall, pretty good food although slightly pricy if you want to get a full meal with just the seafoods.

    Leena S.

Getting to eat with your hands? Awesome I'm in! This restaurant is great for larger groups as well. The seafood options are great! I got the king crab, muscles, broccoli, corn clams and of course the fries. The food was great! No complaints there. I will def be going back! The flavours are unreal Service has room for improvement, needed to waive down a server everytime we needed something.

Snow crab, mussels, clams, shrimp, corn, potatoe
    Stephen C.

2nd time to this location since grand opening (was disappointed on grand opening) but decided to try again and give this location another shot Much improvement from before. Service was readily available and quick. Busier location than Vancouver locations. Have parking available but always packed. Had the following - 6 raw oysters - average but decent size Shrimp - not mushy like previous experience Mussels - not chewy, flavourful, large in size Snow crab - average, not that big for price Clams - very good Corn - bit mushy and over cooked Shrimp fried rice - average, nothing too special Unlike the Vancouver location, no pitcher for pop but individual cans sold per Thought there we be some consistency but assume being franchise, not all same

However, I know why this restaurant continues to be booked and busy. I have been various times before but this was the first time in the last few years. I would describe this restaurant as western fine dining for a Chinese palate. You'll find some classic dishes but less heavy on the salt and grease, perfect for myself and the party I was dining with. I ordered the 5 course meal which was a fantastic deal for $65. The bread service at the start is so warm and yummy - don't skip out on it! The pesto sauce tiger prawns weren't overly pesto forward and had a strong presence of garlic - perfect for me! I loved the chowder as I especially like corn. The portion was also perfect considering I had many courses coming afterwards. Next, came the crab cake, which was generously filled with crab and paired with delicious house made butter. For each dish, I found the garnishes pleasing as well (especially the strawberry which was so sweet and ripe!). I think the best deal of the night was the steak. It was not too salty and cooked perfectly to a medium-rare. I managed to have leftovers as well since the portions were overwhelmingly good. Finally, the star of the night was definitely the chocolate soufflé for me. I loved the rich bitterness of the chocolate paired with ice cream on the side. I don't think this place is the best representation for fine dining. After all, they do not serve any alcohol. However, I think it is a great deal and accommodating to my taste buds. If I do not wish to drive out for fancy food, I know I can rely on the food at Shoestring café. As it is a family run business, there is only one person managing the front and I think they do a pretty good job at juggling all the duties of a host, server, and table busser! I would love to return soon.

Friendly service and I love how passionate they are about quality and using fresh ingredients (eg…read morefresh mushrooms for sauces and fresh made pasta). Steamed mussels and soufflé were so addictive and heavenly. The mussels were savoury and buttery and the soufflé was airy with the perfect amount of sweetness. They were very good! Hits and misses for the mains. While the pasta and sauce were great, we wish the seafood were panfried or something to give it a bit more texture. The duck was well done but not tough (we generally like medium rare) though we were confused by why the skin was served down as crispy skin is always a plus for duck breasts. I'm not a fan of mashed potatoes but theirs was not overly heavy and buttery, which I really appreciated and enjoyed. This reminds me of Asian western food but they were tasty and the ambience was cozy - a local neighbourhood spot.

If not, you're in for a treat!…read more After discovering this concept during a recent vacation, we were excited to find The Captain's Boil on Robson Street in downtown Vancouver, offering the same fun dining experience. This restaurant serves steamed seafood in plastic bags with various spices and broths, creating a unique and flavorful meal. We visited during their AYCE promotion -- shrimp, mussels, and fries for $46.99 per adult. Here's how it works: Choose Your Flavour: Cajun, garlic, lemon pepper, or their signature Captain's Boil (a combo of all flavours). Choose Your Heat Level: From non-spicy to FIRE . Each bag contains about 1 lb of seafood. We tried different flavours and spice levels, and while all were delicious, our favourites were the Captain's Boil and the Garlic flavour. As spice lovers, we found the medium heat just right, but next time, we're ready to take on the FIRE level! The seafood was fresh, expertly cooked, and bursting with flavour. This spot is perfect for groups, especially during their promotion -- big savings and lots of fun. They have multiple locations across Metro Vancouver, so check them out! Whether it's a family gathering or a fun outing with friends, The Captain's Boil is a must-try for seafood lovers. We'll definitely be back! Food: 4/5 Should Try! Service: 4/5 Kids: 3/5 A-Ok for kids, but it can be very messy! Price: $30-$50 per person. (AYCE promotion) Presentation: 1/5 Parking: Paid street parking Tips: * Can get messy, even with the bibs and gloves provided--embrace it! * Start with 1 lb of each seafood and order more halfway through to keep it hot and fresh. * Experiment with different seasonings and spice levels for variety. * Consider adding discounted side dishes. We arrived in time for our reservation but there was no one at the front. We waited for a few minutes for someone to notice we were there, and were immediately seated. Maybe a bit light on the meat, as it was buried by the arugula and pickled shallots, so seemed unbalanced, but overall tasted great - Seafood Linguini: Mixed. Linguini was good. Scallops were really good and tender. Mussels were tiny. Red snapper was tough and dry. As a dish, it was OK, but could be better. Seafood is seasonal, so I'd think they would be better off rotating what seafood is used. - LuLu Island: OK. Same issue as the linguine. Prawns were fine. Mussels tiny. Red snapper wasn't enjoyable. And while there are no shortage of seafood restaurants serving fresh crab on the Steveston waterfront, we wanted to give The Crab King a fair shake. I'm so glad that we did! My wife ordered a King Crab for herself which, after tearing it literally limb-from-limb, eventually declared it to be tied for her favorite boiled crab dish anywhere! High praise coming from such a consummate crustacean connoisseur! For myself and our son, an order of fish and chips, and the grilled chicken sandwich rounded out our order, both of which were crispy, tasty and delicious. Regarding the fish and chips, they appeared to be tempura-battered, and I'm still not 100% sure what type of fish it was. It may have been cod, but it seemed more like catfish, but either way, it was tender, juicy, flaky and delicious. No complaints here! More than anything, though, the employees here went out of their way to make our experience enjoyable. Our toddler son, who is normally extremely well-behaved in restaurants, was having a bit of a fuss here and there. Without prompting, the servers brought us a little radio to play music for him, as well as a couple of toys to play with, one of them being a wind-up truck that they gave to him to take home! He loved it there, and still plays with it at home! They even played peek-a-boo with him from behind the counter, soliciting laughs and giggles, for the better part of 15 minutes! That sort of customer service is nearly impossible to find, and should be praised and cherished wherever it is found! Whatever the past may have held for this restaurant, the Crab King is an entirely new animal now, serving up fresh seafood by uncommonly wonderful employees, in a fantastic floating location. They even offer to cook spot prawns and other seafood purchased from the boats docked at the nearby waterfront marketplace, for a modest fee. With all these things going for it, there's no doubt who wears the crown of Crab King in Steveston Harbor!
