We came for a quick bite before the Bard on the Beach show. Happy hour prawns - skip it. Not worth for the price. Great bite from the shrimp and I love the charr. But it's too pricey for what it is. I did like the avocado dip though Tuna tartare - THE BEST DISH OF THE NIGHT. It comes with a crispy rice on the bottom. The tuna is perfectly savoury. Very addicting and delicious. Needed a bit more confit shallot King salmon crudo - loved the pairing of the citrus fruits and the mint and the salmon. But I feel like the thickness of the salmon needs to be a bit thicker. There weren't any standout flavours here French fries -$15 for French fries seems steep but these French fries were thick and had a good crunch. Well seasoned. Would definitely get it again Profiterole - this was delicious. The ice cream was creamy. The caramel was perfectly salty and sweet. Perfect ending to the meal Service - service was attentive and they came to check on us often. Atmosphere - wasn't too loud and the vibes were relaxed
Wow! My cousins brought me here on my visit and this place didn't disappoint! Great service! We sat on the patio and they have heaters and blankets which is really nice. We ordered quite a variety of food and everything was soo fresh!! We loved everything but the scallops. They were a tad over cooked and tasted burnt. They were very nice and took it back for us. The seasonal items we got was our favorite, the salmon dish.
visited this pescatarian restaurant for happy hour this second time. Their happy hour menu doesnt have a large selection and most of the items i have tried so far is good. We ordered a dozen of the happy hour oysters which were great and they are my type of preference we also tried the grilled oysters. i would prefer the sauce and oyster to have a slightly stronger grilled flavor. We also tried the mussels in white wine sauce which was not from the happy hour menu. the mussels were great selection and the sauce was a great complement to the mussels. however, there was a slice of sourdough at the bottom of the mussels. I would assume it was there to soak up the sauce? it did indeed taste good but the texture became way too soggy.
Came for my mother in law's birthday recently and we enjoyed our dishes so much. Service was super friendly and attentive. When we struggled with what to order, suggestions were provided. They were great about refilling our water. I got a non alcoholic beverage that quenched my thirst and was mega tasty and my husband got a classic cocktail. We loved the ceviche, scallops, fries and branzino. Definitely home runs! We also ordered the mussels, prawn pasta and charred eggplant. These last three were also great and filling. They were also more of the "mains" so we were running out of room and probably with the heat, we found them a tad more heavy so if you're hungry go for these items because they are great! We just loved our appetizers or light share plates more. I believe you'll want to make a reservation for an evening if that's when you're planning on going.
Wow!! Really enjoyed the Dineout Vancouver menu this year! If you go as a party of 4 you can literally try 10 courses for $60 pp which is amazing! The portions were pretty decent. Everything was delicious and the appies and desserts were such a surprise! Service was really good and the ambiance also warm and friendly. We got the heated patio which was a comfortable space!
Have been wanting to try this place for awhile, went on a Saturday night and got seats at the counter, enjoy watching the kitchen at work and seeing all the dishes, food envy. Staff friendly and got our wine order and oysters in the Happy Hours with minutes to spare. Started with a complimentary fish consume, nice broth and no fishy after taste, a good start. Oysters on the HH were from the Sunshine Coast, medium size and a mild brine. Other dishes were the Snapper ceviche, also included Shrimp & Sweet Potato, great flavour but a little heavy with the onions, charred Kale with honey & ricotta which is a definite order again dish, and the Branzino with a Chimichurri. Finished with a dessert, a Passionfruit Posset, firm and creamy and not too sweet, this is on the Dine Out menu. Great service and food here.
We came without a reservation on a Thursday night, which was audacious since it's a rather popular destination. We were put on a 30min waitlist, and given a good recommendation to wait at accross the street. Once seated, we had the Tuna tataki and crudo tasting. All were good but rather pricey for the size. $49 for the crudo. Service was nice.
Delicious dinner spot! We sat at the bar and it was quite nice. We got a few dishes to share. The kanpachi crudo, fries, salad, tuna tostada and spaghetti vongole. All very tasty and service was great. The spaghetti was my favorite. I would also recommend the salad - good dressing with olives, avocado, tomatoes and egg.
This is my second time visiting Oddfish. I had a great experience first time dining here so I thought I would come back again for our anniversary. The ambience is quite casual with outdoor seatings available - there's some interesting and quirky drawings and displays in the restaurant that's quite eye catching. We ordered spot prawn crudo, spaghetti with uni butter, branzino, and carrots. The server told us to make sure to order everything at once and they will get the dishes out in order. Couple minutes later, the server gave us the plate of carrots. We were confused on why the carrots were served as the first dish - not only was it served before the branzino, it was even served before the crudo. We looked at the server and before we even said anything, she came over and said "oh the crudo is coming right up". It felt a bit weird that she knew that the carrots shouldn't have came first but gave it to us anyways. No other explanation was provided from her. The up side is that the carrots tasted amazing, the labneh was so refreshing and the whole dish worked well together. For the other dishes, the spot prawn crudo had a good texture but was beyond salty. Spaghetti was good with a kick but there was no uni taste. Branzino was our favourite dish, it was made to perfection. I should point out that it didn't appear that other tables had issues with getting their appys first then entrees. Perhaps it was because we were celebrating a special day that left a bad impression on the service. 3/5 stars for this experience.
I heard many compliments about Oddfish, so i decided to dine there during a fall trip to Vancouver. The quality of their food and service was exceptional. It was the best meal i had in Canada, not just Vancouver. The menu and beverage recommendations from the bartenders and servers were appropriate. The oysters that evening tasted like they'd been harvested late that afternoon. The head chef looked like he was the youngest of the brigade and I understood he was trained in Michelin-started restaurants. The ingredients were absolutely fresh and prepared with minimal fuss. Everything I ate was so delicious I could not stop ordering other menu items. Congratulations on offering such a wonderful dining experience!
Had a pretty good tapas type dinner shared with a couple others. There is a good variety of seafood dishes and interesting sides that keep you anticipating what the next dish will taste like. The scallops with pea puree and swordfish bacon with corn was nicely cooked and the crunchy bacon added an interesting twist, with a garnish of a few mint leaves that may have added more to the dish if added as a chiffonade. The bransino was a perfectly cooked fillet with a nice crunchy skin served with a sweet onion soubise and a chimichurri which was garlicky but lacking a bit in the coriander parsley flavor. The grilled spring salmon was also cooked perfectly and served on a grilled corn salad. The grilled baby gem lettuce was a nice flavorful blackened wedge with a nice miso ranch nori sesame dressing. The linguine vongole was a nice chewy pasta with fresh clams in a classic white wine garlic sauce with some chile for a touch of heat. Dishes overall were okay but lacked a bit in defining seasoning or spices to bring the dish together. Some lacked a touch of an acid like lemon or lime. Service was great and attentive.
Had my mom's bday dinner at Oddfish and we had a fantastic time! We ordered a bunch of different dishes and the standout for me was for sure the Napa Cabbage - the char and sauce on it was amazing. Here are the dishes we got in order of fave to least fave! Napa Cabbage Ceviche Chili Burrata Tuna Tataki (not pictured) Sticky toffee pudding Mussels Linguine vongole Hand cut fries Branzino Everything was good but the venue was really loud and I have good hearing and am in my 30s so I think it was a little tough for my parents. I was a little disappointed with the Branzino - real small for $42, not worth it at all and the flavours weren't amazing. We were also seated at the big booth beside the door and so we kept getting hit with cold air every time that door opened. Not the best seat that's for sure. The staff were all lovely and super attentive.
We picked this restaurant for our joint birthday celebration (5 of us) and it did not disappoint. It was a busy restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. We opted for the "chef's choice" menu which gave us five courses picked by the chef. We enjoyed a refreshing Rosemary Negroni while waiting for our food to come. The first course was a cobb salad that was topped with fresh herbs and soft boiled egg. Next, we had seafood tower that gave us all the fresh seafood of the day, including oysters, clams, salmon, mussels, and crab legs. We then had the Fife sourdough bread with burrata and red wine butter. The bread was a little bit over toasted but we enjoyed as it went well with the burrata. We also loved the daily deviche that came with avocado, leche de Ttgre, and sweet Potato chips.
Solid fresh seafood in a chill laid back atmosphere. Good neighbourhood, comfortable seating, lovely and attentive staff too. Happy hour until 6pm which is great. Lots of daily features on the menu. What we ordered: Crudo Tasting $55 we had kanpachi, salmon and scallops (daily selection). I like the simplicity of capers/shallots/chives on top as it showcases the super fresh seafood. Tad too much olive oil. Grilled Broccolini $19 Charred soo well! Drowned in tahini though. Not a fan of my veggies saucey. Charred Spanish Octopus $39 one of the best octopus I've had. Tender & lovely char. The large white beans were really good?! a little tangy. Spaghetti Vongole $36 clams tossed in a white wine & garlic sauce. Came here to celebrate Father's Day since hubby is Pescaterean. The place is casual and bright, try to sit outside if it's nice! Parking is challenging but not impossible. Were greeted and sat down by a somewhat enthusiastic hostess and then greeted by another sort of enthusiastic waitress. Not sure maybe it was an off day or just lacking personality and warmth. However, the food is as amazing as the time we came! We had the mussels to share as well as the ahi tuna tartare. Followed by the sole piccata, spaghetti vongole and the strozzapeti. Everything was cooked well and ingredients are always fresh. The vongole was a little bland and I prefer the noodles a little firmer but still good. I think it was a bit pricey for what you get but that's inflation for you. Oh the chocolate cake was very rich and dense! read more

Oddfish is perhaps the best fish restaurant I've been to in Vancouver. The fish is obviously cooked perfectly, with flavorful sauces and exquisite presentation. The scallops were cooked to the perfect temperature, somehow a rarity in Vancouver. The ceviche was equally exceptional. What surprised me was the burrata, as it wasn't what I'd come for, but the liberal toppings and fresh burrata made it the most memorable dish of the night. Great service and ambiance as well -- I'll be coming back soon! read more
**Update 8/17/22** Just had dinner here with my daughter and wow, it was great! They made a wonderful sangria for me, just how I like it. My kid and I had a few oysters each (SO fresh, with finely grated horseradish and lemon and oils on the side), and we shared Thai lemongrass mussels and a spaghetti with clams. Each dish was fantastic, and they even brought us extra toasted bread for the broth (and we didn't even ask!). Super attentive staff, lovely patio, right on the corner of Cypress and 1st, excellent food. A tad pricey but really, does one trust a cheap seafood dinner with raw oysters? I think not. read more

We went to Oddfish for a fancy celebratory meal. They offer small plates, mostly focusing on seafood and are run by the same folks that own Nook and Tavola. We dropped in on a packed Tuesday evening with 7:30pm reservations. This place is popular, especially in the summertime. Service was friendly and our waters (the tiniest cups) were constantly filled. Two menus; both short and sweet. Appetizers, pasta, seafood and vegetables. - Kanpachi crudo, serrano, lime zest ($20.00) - simple but well executed. Fresh, acidic and a touch of heat. - Prawn aguachile ceviche, cilantro, avocado ($22.00) - not much prawn but the Mexican aguachile marinade was tasty. - Seared scallops, apricot mostarda ($32.00) - scallops were excellently seared and succulent. The cauliflower puree underneath was good but we wanted way more than a smear on the plate. - Potato wrapped halibut, green onion, tomato ($35.00) - halibut was tender. The thin slices of potato were okay but again, we wanted more. The tomato fondue was refreshing. Don't expect to be full after your meal. Tasty but small portions at Oddfish. 3.5 stars. read more

A seafood-focused neighborhood gem - the entrees were superb (loved the grill whole fish that we shared), the appetizers were maybe a little less so (pluses were the octopus carpaccio and the burrata, minuses were the crudos - which were on the small side, and were drowning in their respective sauces/oils). The craggy, crunchy hand-cut fries with malt vinegar mayo are awesome and unmissable. We skipped dessert - too full. Service was attentive and friendly. read more

Oddfish was the best meal I've had in a long time. Lots of fresh seafood, and all the dishes were done very well. I was browsing my bookmarks and thought this would be a great place to bring my out-of-town guest for a nice patio dinner. It's a plus that they have reservations available on OpenTable, where you can specify either patio or indoor seating. Note that the restaurant is pescatarian only - no meat is on the menu, only fish, seafood, pasta, vegetables, etc. But the menu is so extensive, you won't miss the meat! I wish I took pictures of their menu as they have one that stays relatively the same and one that changes daily. They recommend sharing everything family style. The service was great. Our waitress explained the dishes, provided recommendations, and once we chose our dishes, she organized it so they would arrive in the correct order. Our water glasses were also always full. We ordered: - Crab and ikura in consomme ($20): a very refreshing bite of fresh crab and ikura in a light broth. Great to start off the meal. The waitress said it was decent value, which at first does not seem like it but it is a good portion of crab. - Crudo tasting ($45): my favourite of the night. It is 3 different types of fish, 6 slices each, so perfect for sharing. That night, we got kanpachi, tuna, and ivory salmon. The fish slices were dressed in a delicious olive oil, with lots of aromatics on top including crispy capers. Super tasty, good portion, I highly recommend it. - Heirloom tomatoes and burrata ($27): chose this over the other burrata dish they have available. Burrata is always good. Saw lots of other tables order this as well. It was delicious as expected, and came with lots of grilled bread and a variety of heirloom tomatoes. - Clam vongole ($30): their pasta is housemade (same owner as Nook) so this had a good bite to it. Maybe a tiny bit too much on the al dente side, but still tasty. The clam sauce was amazing and there were also plenty of clams in each bite. - Potato wrapped halibut ($35): this was a decent sized piece of halibut. It was cooked well and tasty. However, since the other dishes were so delicious I would say this dish did not stand out compared to the others. I'll definitely be back, and I'd order the crudo tasting again as well as the burrata and pasta. read more

I had pretty high expectations coming into this meal at Oddfish. Some were met, and some were not. The important thing to know is that they do their specialty very well - the fish! The pistachio-crusted trout was the highlight of the night. The cook on the trout was a beautiful medium rare, and the charred eggplant purée underneath it stole the show. Smoky, creamy, smooth, the purée had it all. The halibut was nice too, but a little sleepy in flavor. I didn't really like that they called the tomato sauce base "fondue," because there was nothing fondue-y about it. The Oddfish spaghetti was also delicious, creamy with a bit of spice and smattered with small chunks of lobster and Dungeness crab. I'd heard a lot of things about the friendly service, but unfortunately I didn't get to experience that when I was there. Our server was kind enough, but seemed bored. The speed of service at the beginning of the meal was quite prompt, but in the latter half of the meal, the service was incredibly slow. We had to wait almost 30 minutes for dessert, and another 20 minutes for the bill after we were promised it. Lastly, I was really sad that our meal ended on a disappointing note. The olive oil cake was very dry, to the point where I wondered if it was stale. The flavor didn't stand out either, and we actually had to send it back to the kitchen. They kindly took it off our bill, but it was still an unfortunate way to end an otherwise delicious meal. read more

One of THE best karaage. Best octopus. Ever. Finally roamed down to Oddfish after my bf raves about the octopus and he's not a food raver. This place is amazing! Great service. Fantastic food and fun relaxed atmosphere. . . Oddfish is located in a great area lined up with other wonderful looking restaurants. But, street parking was a little difficult to find at the same time. Food tasted great and service was top notch! We had late reservations, so I was a little bummed that some of the menu items were already sold out. Nonetheless, we ordered: 1. Pink Moon (PEI) oysters: small, fresh and wonderfully salty which is the way I like my oysters. Prince Edward Island always have the best tasting oysters. 2. Halibut Ceviche with Avocado, Lime & Toasted Corn: Halibut was really fresh and it was a wonderful concoction of flavors and the lime did not overpower the sweetness of the fish. 3. Spicy Squid: They cook their squid right! The spiciness packed just the right punch and the garlic and onions provided the additional flavor and kick to the dish. 4. Dungeness Crab & Baby Shrimp Spaghetti with Cherry Tomatoes: the waitress raved about their pasta dishes and I fully agree with her assessment. This was the highlight dish of the night for me. Pasta was perfectly al dente and the mixture of crab and shrimp was just plain mouthwatering. I only wish they could put more crab meat in it. 5. Seafood Hot Mess: This is one of their signature dishes with a wonderful mixture of 1/2 lobster, mussels, clams, squid, scallops, prawns & a Ruby Trout filet. All the shellfish was sweet, tender and not overly cooked. The Ruby Trout was awesome tasting! We ended the night sharing a Olive Oil cake. The cake was moist and not too dry which is usually the case in most other restaurants serving an olive oil cake. Walked out of the restaurant thoroughly full and satisfied! read more
Came here the other day and while nothing tasted bad perse, I was quite underwhelmed with the experience. At the price point they charge, I was expecting more in quality and quantity. After almost $100 and no alcohol, my date and I left still hungry. That should sum up the quantity for you. Some of the dishes we tried included: Striped Marlin Crudo - excellent lime taste, albeit on perhaps too tart for some. Morrocan Prawns - waiter said this was going to have some "spice" but sadly there was none. Side Stripe Cocktail - as advertised, a deconstructed shrimp cocktail. I enjoyed this one quite a bit. Again, it's the lime. Mussels - reasonable portion of mussels and only 2 in the batch that had the shells still closed due to being undercooked which is quite the improvement over most places. Sauce was a coconut cream base but left a bit to be desired in the taste category. What was up with that slice of garlic toast? It was beyond charred. Disappointing as I do love a good piece of garlic toast. Side order fries - okay for $10 fries, I don't quite follow where they justify charging that. While food is decent, better places to try in the lower mainland for your seafood fix. Not likely to return in the near future but who knows. read more
I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! Food was great, service was great and ambiance was a little more on the relaxed side. I went with 2 other people and we shared a bunch of dishes (highly recommend). Everything was great but, the one thing that really stood out to me was the ceviche.. that dish was just flavour flavour flavour in your face. I would 100% go back and get that again!! Another thing we tried were the scallops and it was cooked to perfection. My friends were raving about the fries but, not sure if I would get again.. it tasted the same as any other fries to me and for $10 for the dish I would try something else next time! Dish of the night was the octopus karaage! It was a change from your usual chicken karaage. Nonetheless, I really really wish I liked this restaurant. Everything seemed very bland.. I was looking forward to their dungeness crab & lobster spaghetti but that was tasteless as well. The seafood hot mass came with little mussels and clams and barely any meat in the lobster which wasn't worth the price. Service and drinks were top notch but food wise was alright. read more

3.75 stars A few restaurants down from AnnaLena, right on the corner, but the signage is discrete. Came here to celebrate my friend's birthday. Indeed the prices of each dishes are quite pricey for what there are. It's a definite splurge. Frutti di mare: I pointed to the menu and ordered the "linguini" (referring to the only linguini dish on the menu, which was funghi linguini) and we were surprised at the amount of seafood that was present: shrimp, clams, scallops. Didn't even know the funghi linguini had seafood, perhaps we misread the description. Then we got the bill and it was all clear--the server had punched in the frutti di mare linguini, which we saw later was on the blackboard, which was $7 more at $35. Didn't want to make a fuss about it but it was disappointing. The pasta was good thought with a tasty sauce, not too rich, it was oil-based. At least what I would expect for a $35 pasta dish. Octopus karaage: really good and a nice portion to share. Thin crispy batter and the octopus itself was tender. Enjoyed it with the mayo. Also comes with soy sauce. Would recommend, but it is $20... Fries: had to order because I like fries, but at $10, not sure if it was worth it. Thick cut crispy fries with soft interior. A solid fry. Clams: not a skimpy portion and we were both very pleased. Tasted a bit Thai in flavour with the spices. Delicious, really enjoyed the accompanying bread as well to soak up the sauce. Service was attentive. The vibe is very casual, staff wearing t-shirt and jeans/slacks. You can come in expecting good food, but expect to pay a pretty penny. read more
