    Grilled oysters
    Anna A.

visited this pescatarian restaurant for happy hour this second time. Their happy hour menu doesnt have a large selection and most of the items i have tried so far is good. We ordered a dozen of the happy hour oysters which were great and they are my type of preference we also tried the grilled oysters. i would prefer the sauce and oyster to have a slightly stronger grilled flavor. We also tried the mussels in white wine sauce which was not from the happy hour menu. the mussels were great selection and the sauce was a great complement to the mussels. however, there was a slice of sourdough at the bottom of the mussels. I would assume it was there to soak up the sauce? it did indeed taste good but the texture became way too soggy.

Wow!! Really enjoyed the Dineout Vancouver menu this year! If you go as a party of 4 you can literally try 10 courses for $60 pp which is amazing! The portions were pretty decent. Everything was delicious and the appies and desserts were such a surprise! Service was really good and the ambiance also warm and friendly. We got the heated patio which was a comfortable space!

Have been wanting to try this place for awhile, went on a Saturday night and got seats at the counter, enjoy watching the kitchen at work and seeing all the dishes, food envy. Staff friendly and got our wine order and oysters in the Happy Hours with minutes to spare. Started with a complimentary fish consume, nice broth and no fishy after taste, a good start. Oysters on the HH were from the Sunshine Coast, medium size and a mild brine. Other dishes were the Snapper ceviche, also included Shrimp & Sweet Potato, great flavour but a little heavy with the onions, charred Kale with honey & ricotta which is a definite order again dish, and the Branzino with a Chimichurri. Finished with a dessert, a Passionfruit Posset, firm and creamy and not too sweet, this is on the Dine Out menu. Great service and food here.

Came for my mother in law's birthday recently and we enjoyed our dishes so much. Service was super friendly and attentive. When we struggled with what to order, suggestions were provided. They were great about refilling our water. I got a non alcoholic beverage that quenched my thirst and was mega tasty and my husband got a classic cocktail. We loved the ceviche, scallops, fries and branzino. Definitely home runs! We also ordered the mussels, prawn pasta and charred eggplant. These last three were also great and filling. They were also more of the "mains" so we were running out of room and probably with the heat, we found them a tad more heavy so if you're hungry go for these items because they are great! We just loved our appetizers or light share plates more. I believe you'll want to make a reservation for an evening if that's when you're planning on going.

    Crudo tasting

We came without a reservation on a Thursday night, which was audacious since it's a rather popular destination. We were put on a 30min waitlist, and given a good recommendation to wait at accross the street. Once seated, we had the Tuna tataki and crudo tasting. All were good but rather pricey for the size. $49 for the crudo. Service was nice.

Delicious dinner spot! We sat at the bar and it was quite nice. We got a few dishes to share. The kanpachi crudo, fries, salad, tuna tostada and spaghetti vongole. All very tasty and service was great. The spaghetti was my favorite. I would also recommend the salad - good dressing with olives, avocado, tomatoes and egg.

Spaghetti with uni butter and shrimp

This is my second time visiting Oddfish. I had a great experience first time dining here so I thought I would come back again for our anniversary. The ambience is quite casual with outdoor seatings available - there's some interesting and quirky drawings and displays in the restaurant that's quite eye catching. We ordered spot prawn crudo, spaghetti with uni butter, branzino, and carrots. The server told us to make sure to order everything at once and they will get the dishes out in order. Couple minutes later, the server gave us the plate of carrots. We were confused on why the carrots were served as the first dish - not only was it served before the branzino, it was even served before the crudo. We looked at the server and before we even said anything, she came over and said "oh the crudo is coming right up". It felt a bit weird that she knew that the carrots shouldn't have came first but gave it to us anyways. No other explanation was provided from her. The up side is that the carrots tasted amazing, the labneh was so refreshing and the whole dish worked well together. For the other dishes, the spot prawn crudo had a good texture but was beyond salty. Spaghetti was good with a kick but there was no uni taste. Branzino was our favourite dish, it was made to perfection. I should point out that it didn't appear that other tables had issues with getting their appys first then entrees. Perhaps it was because we were celebrating a special day that left a bad impression on the service. 3/5 stars for this experience.

I heard many compliments about Oddfish, so i decided to dine there during a fall trip to Vancouver. The quality of their food and service was exceptional. It was the best meal i had in Canada, not just Vancouver. The menu and beverage recommendations from the bartenders and servers were appropriate. The oysters that evening tasted like they'd been harvested late that afternoon. The head chef looked like he was the youngest of the brigade and I understood he was trained in Michelin-started restaurants. The ingredients were absolutely fresh and prepared with minimal fuss. Everything I ate was so delicious I could not stop ordering other menu items. Congratulations on offering such a wonderful dining experience!

Scallops with swordfish bacon and corn with a pea puree
    Gord K.

Had a pretty good tapas type dinner shared with a couple others. There is a good variety of seafood dishes and interesting sides that keep you anticipating what the next dish will taste like. The scallops with pea puree and swordfish bacon with corn was nicely cooked and the crunchy bacon added an interesting twist, with a garnish of a few mint leaves that may have added more to the dish if added as a chiffonade. The bransino was a perfectly cooked fillet with a nice crunchy skin served with a sweet onion soubise and a chimichurri which was garlicky but lacking a bit in the coriander parsley flavor. The grilled spring salmon was also cooked perfectly and served on a grilled corn salad. The grilled baby gem lettuce was a nice flavorful blackened wedge with a nice miso ranch nori sesame dressing. The linguine vongole was a nice chewy pasta with fresh clams in a classic white wine garlic sauce with some chile for a touch of heat. Dishes overall were okay but lacked a bit in defining seasoning or spices to bring the dish together. Some lacked a touch of an acid like lemon or lime. Service was great and attentive.

Oddfish is perhaps the best fish restaurant I've been to in Vancouver. The fish is obviously cooked perfectly, with flavorful sauces and exquisite presentation. The scallops were cooked to the perfect temperature, somehow a rarity in Vancouver. The ceviche was equally exceptional. What surprised me was the burrata, as it wasn't what I'd come for, but the liberal toppings and fresh burrata made it the most memorable dish of the night. Great service and ambiance as well -- I'll be coming back soon!

    Ceviche

Had my mom's bday dinner at Oddfish and we had a fantastic time! We ordered a bunch of different dishes and the standout for me was for sure the Napa Cabbage - the char and sauce on it was amazing. Here are the dishes we got in order of fave to least fave! Napa Cabbage Ceviche Chili Burrata Tuna Tataki (not pictured) Sticky toffee pudding Mussels Linguine vongole Hand cut fries Branzino Everything was good but the venue was really loud and I have good hearing and am in my 30s so I think it was a little tough for my parents. I was a little disappointed with the Branzino - real small for $42, not worth it at all and the flavours weren't amazing. We were also seated at the big booth beside the door and so we kept getting hit with cold air every time that door opened. Not the best seat that's for sure. The staff were all lovely and super attentive.

    Rosemary Negroni
    Cy W.

We picked this restaurant for our joint birthday celebration (5 of us) and it did not disappoint. It was a busy restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. We opted for the "chef's choice" menu which gave us five courses picked by the chef. We enjoyed a refreshing Rosemary Negroni while waiting for our food to come. The first course was a cobb salad that was topped with fresh herbs and soft boiled egg. Next, we had seafood tower that gave us all the fresh seafood of the day, including oysters, clams, salmon, mussels, and crab legs. We then had the Fife sourdough bread with burrata and red wine butter. The bread was a little bit over toasted but we enjoyed as it went well with the burrata. We also loved the daily deviche that came with avocado, leche de Ttgre, and sweet Potato chips.

    Oysters and mussels. SO GOOD!

**Update 8/17/22** Just had dinner here with my daughter and wow, it was great! They made a wonderful sangria for me, just how I like it. My kid and I had a few oysters each (SO fresh, with finely grated horseradish and lemon and oils on the side), and we shared Thai lemongrass mussels and a spaghetti with clams. Each dish was fantastic, and they even brought us extra toasted bread for the broth (and we didn't even ask!). Super attentive staff, lovely patio, right on the corner of Cypress and 1st, excellent food. A tad pricey but really, does one trust a cheap seafood dinner with raw oysters? I think not.

Outdoor seating only with a bunch of benches and a few tables. I already knew I was going to do take away, so I didn't need to jostle for a seat. Almost everyone else had to do the jostleing. Two piece cod and a salmon tacone. The cod was overcooked. The tacone was good. Fries were crispy and unevenly fried. Meaning some pieces were burnt a little. Still acceptable tho. You can't get a better location than this bar/grill, on a seawall corner, looking over boats in the marina, the stately Burrard Bridge, with Granville Island right across the inlet, and all the cute AquaBus ferries crisscrossing the waterway. Also, there's seating outside, literally abutting the seawall, so it's a great place to people- and dog-watch, as there is tons of foot (and paw) traffic in this area, especially when the weather is nice, as it was today. I've also always wanted to visit here, not just because of the scenic and convenient location, but also because, whenever I've passed here while it was open, the most intoxicating aromas of burgers has emanated from the restaurant, and there always seemed to be tons of happy, laughing diners sitting outside and in, with tasty looking meals and drinks on thier tables. Today was the day that I finally visited this place. And it did NOT disappoint. My kid and I snagged the best table, outside, along the rail abutting the seawall, right on the corner. ****Service Animal Discrimination Experience****…read more I'm writing to document a disappointing and unacceptable experience with Blue Water Cafe in Vancouver. Earlier today, we called ahead to request dining accommodations with my certified service dog, trained in the United States by an Assistance Dogs International (ADI)-accredited program -- a certification that is fully recognized under British Columbia's Guide Dog and Service Dog Act. Instead of courteously discussing the request or asking the legally permitted questions, the staff member immediately rejected our reservation, accused us of not having proper documentation, and refused to review or even allow us to present our credentials. This was done over the phone, without any attempt to understand the situation or follow BC's service animal regulations. Under BC law, restaurants must accommodate certified service dogs and may only ask: * whether the dog is required because of a disability, and * what task the dog is trained to perform. Blue Water Cafe did neither. Instead, we were dismissed, spoken to rudely, and denied access based on incorrect assumptions about service dog requirements in British Columbia. For a restaurant of this reputation, this level of misinformation and lack of courtesy is unacceptable. Service dog users deserve dignity, lawful treatment, and basic respect -- not snap judgments, false accusations, or barriers to dining. I hope management addresses this immediately through staff training on BC's Guide Dog and Service Dog Act and implements proper procedures so that other guests with disabilities are not subjected to the same treatment. MARY was very rude she had zero empathy and her tone was very obnoxious as well she had zero patience and her tone was not at all pleasing, she shouldn't be in customer service if she has no skill as to how to calm a situation, she has zero empathy towards us and didn't know how to talk in a manner that people would understand your situation, she just didn't seem to care. Why would someone want to work in a customer facing job if they have no patience to deal with customers. She was beyond rude , no words for Mary indeed! She passed me on to the manager , he was a guy, Kaden or sounds like that name, he was also not very helpful or didn't even try to make the situation a better one knowing it was my birthday, they both definitely have the most horrible customer service we've experienced so far , that day we were also driving back from the Four Seasons hotel in Whistler and they were such beyond lovely when it comes to going above and beyond! They definitely have the gold standard as to how people should be treated! This place is totally a downgrade from what we've experienced at the Four Seasons Hotel. Please don't assume on anyone's service dog. Please don't discriminate your tone towards anyone having a service dog and explaining it to the person properly showing empathy, it would have been a totally different experience and outcome when it comes to my review, because mental health is real.

And while there are no shortage of seafood restaurants serving fresh crab on the Steveston waterfront, we wanted to give The Crab King a fair shake. I'm so glad that we did! My wife ordered a King Crab for herself which, after tearing it literally limb-from-limb, eventually declared it to be tied for her favorite boiled crab dish anywhere! High praise coming from such a consummate crustacean connoisseur! For myself and our son, an order of fish and chips, and the grilled chicken sandwich rounded out our order, both of which were crispy, tasty and delicious. Regarding the fish and chips, they appeared to be tempura-battered, and I'm still not 100% sure what type of fish it was. It may have been cod, but it seemed more like catfish, but either way, it was tender, juicy, flaky and delicious. No complaints here! More than anything, though, the employees here went out of their way to make our experience enjoyable. Our toddler son, who is normally extremely well-behaved in restaurants, was having a bit of a fuss here and there. Without prompting, the servers brought us a little radio to play music for him, as well as a couple of toys to play with, one of them being a wind-up truck that they gave to him to take home! He loved it there, and still plays with it at home! They even played peek-a-boo with him from behind the counter, soliciting laughs and giggles, for the better part of 15 minutes! That sort of customer service is nearly impossible to find, and should be praised and cherished wherever it is found! Whatever the past may have held for this restaurant, the Crab King is an entirely new animal now, serving up fresh seafood by uncommonly wonderful employees, in a fantastic floating location. They even offer to cook spot prawns and other seafood purchased from the boats docked at the nearby waterfront marketplace, for a modest fee. With all these things going for it, there's no doubt who wears the crown of Crab King in Steveston Harbor!
