I must say finding parking here was the hardest part ! Plan in advance! Wow the mussels and clams was one of the freshest I've ever had. And the broth was absolutely delicious. It was not overcooked at out. Just perfect. The best fries in town was alright, my palate for fries is pretty high. It's a good batch of chips but I don't think it's worth the accolade. The service was great and friendly, they were able to accommodate for us even though we didn't have a reservation. We went before the dinner rush. They have the best fries for fish and chips (unfortunately no fish and chips on the menu) and their ceviche...holy delicious. You can tell that everyone is having a blast, even the kitchen staff. I was grateful to have witnessed people who are having fun, high energy, and focused in their work. It was beautiful. Fantastic meal! The menu is on the pricier end but is a good place to indulge and splurge a bit. The atmosphere is chill and laidback - similar to the style of the service. This place is definitely going into my favs list! Oysters We started out with a half dozen Kushi oysters, you can't really go wrong with Kushi paired with a good mignonette. Dungeness Crab and Uni Butter Pasta (one of the specials of the night) This was our favourite dish of the night. So much flavour packed into this perfect plate of pasta. Brussel Sprouts ($15) The brussel sprouts soaked up all the yummy flavours and I loved the little bites of dates, capers and pumpkin seeds. It was topped with a good amount of fresh shaved parmesan cheese. Mussels ($17) Juicy mussels with a good broth. Every mussel was fresh and plump. It came with a size of garlic bread to soak up all the flavour. Fries ($10) This is a MUST if you're getting the mussels. Best combo? Oddfish is one of my favourite restaurants in the city. Great place to go if you are looking for delicious, high quality seafood, but in a more casual setting. Great for dates and even better for groups, as the dishes are meant to be shared and the more you get to try, the better. Amazing food, tasty cocktails, great service and atmosphere is how I would describe this restaurant. The servers themselves are warm , attentive and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. They carry a fun, relaxed vibe throughout the restaurant, whilst remaining completely professional and providing excellent service. It makes for a very enjoyable evening. Since their Covid reopening, I've noticed that some of my favourite items; like the seafood hot mess and the octopus karage, have been taken off the menu (tear), but fingers crossed they will return again. I also have noticed a bit of a price increase on some items upon reopening, but that seems pretty standard these days and the quality you get, makes it totally worth it! The menu is always changing based on what's fresh , but they do have some constants. Some of my must try's include: The burrata, some of the best burrata in the city. It's the same company as Tavola/nook so if you've tried it there you know how good it is. I always like to get a pasta dish. The pasta is hand made and always delicious. The seafood Vongole is one of my faves, but I also like to mix it up and am never disappointed. Even just thethe simple starters on the menu, are tasty and perfect compliments to the meal, olives, bread, beet salad etc and while I'm not usually a fries person, I cannot resist the hand-cut fries here because they are just so damn good. For a vegetable dish the roasted cauliflower, served in a delicious chermoula yoghurt sauce is my favourite. The seafood of course, is always outstanding. There is always something new and exciting to try. You can't go wrong with the halibut, but ask the server for their recommendation. The last time I was there, Upon the server's advice, I tried a salmon dish with chanterelle mushrooms. It was undoubtedly the best, most perfectly cooked salmon I've ever had in my entire life. Incredible!! The scallops are always seared to perfection. The mussels are plump and juicy. In all my times coming here, there's only one dish I remember not loving, the butterflied branzino, but that was just personal preference. Because with every bite, you can always tell you are getting the freshest, highest quality ingredients. My only criticism is that a few things on the menu, seem slightly pricey for what they are. But that won't stop me from coming back again and again. Oh and don't forget to save or make room for dessert. Visiting from Toronto and read about Oddfish online. It was terrific. Started with great bread and olives. Forget the butter, just dip the bread in the oil the olives come in. Amazing grilled vegetable salad. I couldn't stop eating the fries. I had the halibut wrapped in potato and my wife had the spot prawns. Price/quality (3/4): The food tasted great--I had the seared scallops--but they were somewhat overpriced. My girlfriend ordered the spaghetti vongole, which had pretty much the same problem. The wine pairings were nice though, and so were the cocktails. Service (1/1): This restaurant is one of the few that let you order a drink while waiting in line. The server was also very friendly, and while service isn't necessarily the fastest, it definitely isn't slow even on busy nights. Reservations are recommended though. After we seated, the waitress asked us to switch table because they are saving the seat to "regular customers". I told the waitress one of us is having birthday today, yes, May 24th, same today I'm leaving this comment. And she said "it's ok, you can switch table". We were being nice and moved to the other table since she really insisted. ... After I finished the last piece of my fish, the waiter jumped in and ask if we need desert or not. We told him we still need time to think. After 2 mins, the waiter walk passed our table and dropped the bill facing down and said take your time. One minute later he came back with the card machine and asked if we are ready to pay. We still have more than half of our drinks in the glass and reading the black board menu. We only seated for 50 mins when he bring his credit card reader including the the time for table changing at the beginning. Another white couple sitting next to us was still eating and they were here before we seated. They were not given any bill or asked to pay. (We did order around $100 food and 2 drinks.) The food is always great as expected, but the service... I was really shocked. I've been dining in this restaurant for a few years but it's my first time being treated like that. I will take a long break before I visit Oddfish again, not going until I missed their food too much. read more

Great seafood spot in Kits! If you're looking for fresh fish and seafood, this is a must try. They have a regular menu but the specials change depending on the catch(es) of the day. When we went on a Friday night, we ordered the prawn ceviche (can't remember the name but it's the one with green sauce -- a tiny bit spicy but really good!), tostadas, Thai curry mussels, spaghetti vongole, and butterflied branzino. Had a lovely dinner here last week. We came pretty late, close to 9pm and there was plenty of seating available for the 2 of us. Loved the ambience! They have daily/weekly(?) specials (food and drinks) so pay attention to what's written on the boards. There's a huge one up front and several smaller ones on the pillars of the restaurant. Here's what we ordered: Oysters ($3.5 each) The Kusshi oysters were their oysters for the day and they were incredibly fresh. Perfect with the horseradish and vinaigrette. Seared Scallops ($22) Incredible. Cooked to perfection. Possibly the best seared scallops I've had. Only wish the portions were bigger! I wanted more than 4 pieces. Prawns Pil Pil ($18) This was a daily special. Cooked with garlic and chillies. Really tasty as well and cooked perfectly. Only 6 pieces. Clams ($15) Lots of clams! Cooked in white wine, garlic, chillies. Served with 2 slender slices of bread. The sauce was a little too salty but still yummy. Clams were fresh as well. This probably filled us up the most. Everything was quite expensive for the small portions but after eating here, I could see why. All of the seafood we had was so fresh and cooked to perfection. My partner and I celebrated Valentine's here and we had an amazing time. The food is close to fine dining quality but the atmosphere is so chill and you never feel uptight. The staff are very welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu with any questions you may have. Their menu is designed to share so keep that in mind when ordering. Assorted Oysters (not pictured): you can't go wrong with oysters, and their mignonette complemented the oyster very well. Seafood Hot Mess: the flavour is done right. Scallops were seared to perfection and seasoning on point with a fragrant salsa verde covering the dish on top. Tostadas: these were actually our dessert as we had room for a little more and were eyeing the tostadas on the menus. Quite pricey at $25 for this appy but I loved the flavour of the crab & shrimp mix. Not sure I'd reorder though based on cost. Saw this new restaurant thanks to Yelp, so thought I'd check it out one day as I love seafood. The place is really nice and feels open and airy. Their specials are written on the board. We got the scallops, prawns, and oysters. The Kusshi oysters came with a lemon wedge, horseradish, and vinaigrette. It's super fresh and sweet. Wish I got another one but it was $3.50 a pop. Then came the scallops. There were only 4 pieces but they were pretty good in size and they tasted delicious. They were cooked perfectly. The prawns came next with garlic and chilis. These were cooked wonderfully as well. The chili was not too spicy and goes well with the 6 pieces of prawns. As the serving was small (think tapas style), we decided to add clams to our order. This was served on a bowl with lots of garlic, chilis and white wine sauce. The bowl was filled to the brim with clams with 2 pieces of bread on top. The sauce was divine, albeit a bit too salty for us. So we requested more lemons and that made it great. I wish they would have given us more bread to sop up the sauce. All in all, I'd say this was a wonderful dinner and I'll surely be back. I'd be interested to try out their seafood hot mess next time. Service was good and it's a bonus that it's walking distance to the Vanier Park area where we went to see the fireworks after our meal. read more

First dinner out since restaurants re-opened, and we decided on Oddfish since we had been planning on trying it for months! I'm glad we tried it as our first one back, because it exceeded our expectations even with the weirdness post-covid. A quick temperature check, and the servers with face shields but other than that business as usual. Drinks were quick, refilled often, and tasty. We tried: the prawn ceviche, the stir fried chili squid, the HOT French fries, a halibut special and the prawn pesto pasta. The ceviche was the star, but everything was hot and delicious, and the prawns in the pasta were tender and perfect. We just wish we could have ordered more! Overall excellent food and service. We had the octopus, which was really good, and marvelous butterflied rainbow trout. Great wines by the glass and a truly tasty sangria. We ended with a divine chocolate pot de creme. Specialities are the heart of the menu here, so study the boards and ask questions. It's worth it. Oddfish lost one star because we arrived as the restaurant opened and were seated at a table where, within 20 minutes, we were blinded by the setting sun for the better part of half an hour. Staff should more sensitive to this, particularly when there's no restriction on where to seat someone. But this is a fine place to dine in Vancouver! read more

Hidden gem. Last Friday we found ourselves at that dreaded time of 8:45 pm in Kitsilano with no reservations for dinner made and most everywhere closing imminently. Hurray though, we wandered into Oddfish at 9 :15 pm and were greeted immediately by a friendly server who seemed genuinely interested in our business and we were seated at our request at the bar. It's a very nicely designed room with large booths and tables for groups and plenty of room on the heated patio also (Partyio) We decided to start with the oysters and they didn't disappoint. Fresh and on point the 3 varieties we had. Next we moved on to clams which came with two sizeable hunks of toasted bread. The portion was huge and at $17 a good value. The garlicky broth delicious. Paired the dinner with a bottle of champagne since it was my pre birthday dinner and my guy is a sweetheart. Pretty good wine list here folks and some nice cocktails too. I had the aperol spritz, super refreshing. We had an order of fries too which got devoured mostly by me. Service was very friendly and knowledgable. We will be back soon. read more

Beautiful room and wonderful wait and bar staff! The dishes we ordered were quite good, some better than others. Price point I would tend to agree with others in that the portion size is lacking all things considering. We ordered the burrata, clams, octopus and Brussels sprouts which was plenty enough food. The burrata portion was quite small at $22. Normally I need more bread with a typical order but in this case I had way too much bread. The clams were a decent size, though I prefer mine a bit more garlicky. The octopus was delicious and cooked perfectly. The octopus portion was reasonable but at $28 it could have come with a bit more garnish or side. Brussel sprouts were not overdone or charred like they do them at a lot of other places. However for the same portion the price is double ($15 I believe versus about $8-9 at other spots. I had a chance to taste the hamachi and the squid which friends ordered. Both were done well. Another pair of friends ordered the crab pasta and halibut. Like others say here the pasta is under seasoned. The halibut was good but the portion of the actual fish was quite small. Although the seafood was done well I wouldn't run back in a hurry! read more

What we liked: Before I talk about the debacle that is their Whole Fish, I'd like to first give credit where credit is due. The waiters at Oddfish are a humorous bunch and their knowledge about the varieties of fish definitely impressed us. We started our meal with the octopus and a side of asparagus, both of which were delectable. The former may have been garnished with an excessive amount of parsley, but that is just a personal preference. The octopus itself was quite tender and the sauce added to the dish without overpowering it. The asparagus paired well with the shredded parmesan and we have nothing but praises for these two dishes. What we didn't like: When we decided to go to Oddfish, we were not prepared for Odd(tasting)Fish. The Whole Fish (Sea Perch) came balanced and unique in presentation, with contrasting sauces coating each side. However, taking a single bite of the Sea Perch quickly reminded us to not judge a book by its covers - a dish not by its presentation. The only flavour we could taste was an overwhelming bitterness that lasted until our next, desperately needed, sip of water. The fish was clearly not properly cleaned or severely burnt (I pray for the latter). Long story short, we brought it up to our waiter who returned the dish to the kitchen and shortly after came back to tell us the dish was charred and that the chef believes it to be how its supposed to taste. I've had my fair share of culinary experiences around the world and I hold great respect for chefs and their creations; who am I to critique the work of a professional with countless hours under his/her belt? For this reason, I've rarely, if ever, sent dishes back to the kitchen. Yet, I do believe that a charred dish and a burnt one are separated by a not-so-fine line - one which the chefs at Oddfish have not only crossed, but also constructed a $45 dish on. Update: After checking other Yelp reviews and seeing comments about the overwhelmingly bitter after-taste of their charred fish, I believe it has less to do with the gentleness of my palette and more to do with the dish itself. read more

The halibut for $30 was the size of your palm and so it was rather expensive for something that was meant to be divided. Service is very good, our seabass in chimmichurri was burnt (we couldn't even taste the chimmichurri) so we sent it back and they very graciously made another one for us. The second one was good. Our server regularly checked in on us which was appreciated. For 7 of us we had 3 veggie sides, 4 fish and seafood dishes and non-alcoholic drinks. Our bill came to $307 before tip. Seafood restaurants are dime a dozen in Vancouver, the great thing is that if you are craving seafood, the options are endless and there are so many places with various price points to choose from. Oddfish is one of the newer additions to the local casual fine dining scene. A restaurant focused on fresh seafood but with a more casual vibe is always welcomed, however, it is definitely a mid/high end price point dining option, as you can probably tell by the location of the restaurant. We came here for a nice low key dinner to celebrate my partner's birthday. The menu is small, with a changing fresh sheet (chalk board) depending on what is fresh and available that day. We decided to try the popular Seafood Hot Mess, which is a medley of various seafood items served together on one big plate to share. Priced at $65, it is actually one of the best valued items on the menu and I would highly recommend trying it if you don't want to break the bank here. The dish consists of a layer of squid, several prawns, scallops,mussels and clams, with a fish filet and half a lobster served in a olive oil based sauce with various spices and a fresh squeeze of lemon. All the seafood itself is really fresh and nicely seasoned as well. We could barely finish the whole plate between the 2 of us. However I will say that the ratio of seafood items is a little off for sure. There is so much squid that by the time you are half way through you really don't want anymore, not surprising because it is probably one of the cheapest items on the list so it is almost filler-esque for the fish. Could definitely use more than 2 prawns for sure, and taking out the fish filet might be a good option - it just doesn't really fit in with the rest of the shellfish options in the dish. The highlights were the scallops (so fresh and flavorful!!!!!!) and the half lobster(always fun to crack open a lobster on a date!!). We are glad we ordered the Seafood Hot Mess as first timers because we had a good option of trying several seafood items so we can be more selective with our ordering for our next visit. For the sides - we ordered some charred greens and baguette to start. Goes well with the meal - not much to write home about but just good supplement to the meal. Very simple and straightforward. Drinks were decent and a pretty nice wine menu too. They definitely make them cocktails strong that's for sure! Overall I had a pleasant experience at Oddfish, the service was great, food was decent but I see it at restaurant that serves seafood, not a restaurant that specializes in seafood and has innovative and memorable ways of presenting and interpreting the ingredients. There is a big difference between those two and I think that's why I think I will absolutely come back again anticipating a decent meal, but not expecting to be blown away by the culinary experience. read more

Biggest problem is how to try everything from their menu. Everything sounded delicious & we were not disappointed... Hamachi was thinly sliced & delicately prepared (if you can't get to NY for your Nobu, "new style sashimi" fix then this is a close second)...I could have used slightly more jalepeno but I tend to like things spicy. The citrus & avocado salad was perfectly dressed. Ruby trout was beautifully seasoned & the skin was so nicely crisp that I couldn't stop myself from going back for more skin (which I never do!) The addition of dates w the brussel sprouts were a welcome addition. Plump shrimp pil pil were deliciously buttery & garlicy without blowing out my palate. I enjoyed the meal so much that I was brazen enough to order a (full caf) coffee, which was totally legit...might regret that choice later but it went so well with the oh so creamy salted caramel dessert!!!! All the dishes seemed perfectly 'simple' in a very well thought out way. Loved the moss green velvet chairs, will definitely have to snag a cozy green velvet booth seat next time! read more

Seafood lovers come here! First off this is higher end seafood place so it is not inexpensive. I knew that so I will try not to let it play into my review too much. Oddfish is located on West 1st ave on the corner of Cypress street near Burrard. Parking here sucks, fyi. Luckily I can walk here. This venue is the old Baccano and Smoking dog bistro. Tough spot to survive with the rent and poor parking so we will see if it lasts or not. Renovated nicely inside with some comfy booths and a bunch of tables. I don't know if I would like to be seated and the tables. It seemed crowded to me. This is a very noisy restaurant, which I hate, so I subtracted a Star for that reason. Its hard to have a conversation but doable, don't talk about anything's by personal. You have to really lean in and talk loudly lol. Service was top notch and fast. No complaints there. The wine list needs work in my opinion. I know it's a seafood joint but us red wine lovers are still gonna drink red even with white fish FYI. I had a hard time finding a great wine. $15/glass for a Syrah than was so so. A few more rich, full bodied and bold wines would be appreciated! On to the menu and food. Menu is small, but.... there are additional specials on the board. The change up their vegetable sides as well. They had the option of a platter for $65, but you don't really know what you are getting. We started with Himatchi (sashimi). I love sashimi but I wasn't too sure how this would play out with jalapeño and lime. The himatchi itself was very fresh and high grade. The jalapeño adds a surprising bite to the fish but is a little overpowering. There was also salt sprinkled on the himatchi and I don't think I was a fan of that. It was also lying in an oil which I felt was unnecessary. I never tasted any lime. Overall I wouldn't order this dish again. Next, we had mussels which were wonderful!! Tons and tons for $18. Priced very fair. Huge and plump and juicy!!! Nice white wine broth. Unfortunately, the baguette or toast or whatever that was was awful. It was burnt on one side and super chewy. I love dipping a nice bread into the tasty broth and this was just not happening. I tried. A few times. And than gave up lol. I'm thinking some nice warm bread would be so much better and simpler. The vegetable dish was roasted Brussels sprouted with bacon and Parmesan cheese. Wonderful. No complaints. I think it was $18. Also ordered the seared scallops for $22. Fresh and juicy and cooked nicely. I am not sure what the sauce was but it was alright. Not mind blowing but good. Definitely have to say for $22 this dish is too small. Only 4 scallops (not large size, medium size I would say). If you are going to charge that much make it 6, otherwise throw in some vegetables or something! Walked in and we were immediately warmly welcomed, given our choice of available seats. Staff were very friendly and genuinely appear to be happy to be working here. Menu is interesting and unique, augmented by the specials on the chalkboard. Lots of agonizing and we chose the Moroccan prawns...Damm gurl, turn your back so I can lick the plate! and... Fries! big big portion built up like a jenga game, yummers !! Then... Ceviche super delicious, maybe a bit to much lime otherwise fresh and tasty. Nice modern casual room, lots of (maybe too much) lighting. Music, think it was there not sure, louder? More up beat? To the moron sitting to our right (this is likely pointless, doubtful you know how to read), DO NOT WAVE AND SAY YOO HOO to the hard working staff. They were gracious and polite to you, you deserve a slap to the head! All said and done, delicious casual dinner, nice neighborhood joint definitely worth the return visit. read more

Being a pretty big fan of seafood I was really excited to try this new restaurant! Service was really friendly and welcoming from the start to end. The server introduced the items she recommends and we did end up ordering a few of them. We ordered the side stripe ceviche, octopus, mussels, and sea bass. The ceviche was really flavourful and refreshing. And the mussels were cooked perfectly plump and tasty! But I don't think i will order the octopus or the sea bass again. The sea bass was not one of their regular menu items and we thought we would give it a try. It was really nice to see the fish cooked and served as a whole but it was way too charred that it didn't offer too much flavour other then the bitter charred taste. Regardless, the fish was cooked nicely but definitely would recommend changing up the flavour. The same goes with the octopus. It was tender but was just too charred for my personal preference. I think the level of charrness they had on the two dishes really devalues the freshness of the seafood. Overall, it is a nice restaurant with a modern and fresh decor. finally hit up this local joint on a night where I hit 6 joints on an ebike resto hope with my friend. totally dig it. as i local i'll be going here regularly. i do agree with comments about this being a higher priced point place for an everyday meal, but it's fairly priced for what it is. good cocktails (although the kombucha one was a bit misleading- didn't have much kombucha kick) good seafood (had the seafood hot mess - lobster was mealy (didn't have the live snap to it) but the squid was cooked incredibly well - although there was a lot of squid, while the price point leans towards lobster pricing) had a couple of oysters that were perfectly fine good service with a younger professional crowd if you live in this area and aren't strapped for cash this is a definite gem in the neighbourhood (alongside grapes & soda which i also ebiked to that night). do it! read more

Really excellent food and service in a great hood. Wish I could afford to go more regularly, as prices on the high side but probably going towards quality ingredients, high rent and paying staff fairly. read more

I have only been once, but will be going back plenty more in the future! First off, I was blown away at the customer service from the whole team. We had drinks and some appies, which were great, and really well priced, which was surprising, as I walk by all the time and thought it was going to be more expensive, as it has that look and feel. They have a really cozy and intimate space, perfect for a catch-up with friends or date night. I just couldn't say more about how lovely the staff were, and it didn't feel like each had a typical role (host, waiter, bartender), but more they all stepped in to ensure patrons were all having a great experience at all moments! read more
