I came in for dinner on a Monday night and I decided to try the Lobster Night menu. For the price point, it is such a fantastic deal. I started with the crispy lobster and prawn roll. The roll was crisp and tasty, and the plum vinegar was a nice accompaniment. I chose the lobster Thermidor. Both the lobster and hollandaise were flavourful. The warm banana and coconut cake was a nice end to the meal- not too sweet and had a nice texture. The stars of the night were the staff. They worked together to create a wonderful dining experience for me!

We had a reservation made for wifeys birthday. Greeted warmly by the hostess and promptly seated. Asked if we wished for patio or outside. Wifey wanted to dine in the interior. The decor was very modern and sleek. Comfortable and lively! We were given our menus and our server introduced herself and inquired about what beverages we wished for other than water(you have your choice of what type of water you want too). After perusing awhile we were good to order and wifey wanted to try two appies. The tuna tartare, and scallop crudo. For her main was sablefish and mine was the king salmon. Our drinks arrived and were made nicely. No skimping on the proper alcohol percent here. We were also asked if we wanted both appies at once or separately. We opted for at the same time. They were both lovely, the scallops were plated beautifully and were very fresh! The acidic taste of the sauce paired well with the delicateness of the scallops. The tuna tartare was tasty and served with taro chips. The taro chips were very crisp and served as a good vessel for the tuna physically. Taste wise, not my favorite. It wasn't bad but I felt something else would have been better paired with the tuna. Wife's sablefish was delicate, moist and delicious. She thought was a bit salty but I found it OK. It was served with soba noodles which imo were over done as they were very soft as compared to the firm texture I'm used to them being served like. My salmon was cooked pretty good! Crisp top and tasty(slightly less cook time and the fish would have been perfect) but overall decent! It was served with some gnocchi and sliced zucchini/ pickles. For dessert wifey got a seasonal dish, an orange pannacotta. Which was fresh on the palette and delicious. I ordered the warm banana and coconut butter cake with creme anglaise. This was also delicious! Warm cream, beautiful texture and fruits on top. Overall a wonderful dining experience and lovely server which did an excellent job!

My coworker and I went to Coast for happy hour after work. We didn't make a reservation but our group was pretty big (~15 people). They seated us in a room at the back. I appreciate that they gave us a space with more privacy, but the room's decor/lighting is quite different from other parts of the restaurant. The room feels like it's for a Chinese style family dinner instead of a HH with coworkers lol. They have quite a good selection of Happy Hour items, but it seems that there are no happy hour zero-proof drinks. I tried their $1.75@ oyster and mini lobster and prawn roll. The oysters were small but flavorful and fresh. Great for the price. The prawn and lobster salad on the roll was refreshing. The coleslaw on the side was alright. They made a good afterwork snack.

Same excellent service and management as Black and Blue, next door. We came at lunch time on Sunday, when it is also happy hour. What a great deal! Wines by the glass for $5, and great small plates. The sushi assortment was perfectly prepared, with a nice mixture of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. The salmon flatbread was also notable, made with mascarpone instead of the usual feta or ricotta. Perfectly crisped crust. We'll definitely be back. Happy hour on weekdays starts early, at 2pm, and there is also a lobster dinner Sunday evenings.

I visit Coast on a quarterly basis for work lunches. It's always solid and I've never had any issues. Items range from not bad to excellent. Fish and Chips. Fresh fish with crispy and light batter. Seafood Linguine. Part of the $39 lunch menu (appee and entree) and this is probably my favorite item on that lunch special menu. Good amount of seafood and noodles are perfectly al dente. Salmon. This is part of the $39 lunch special menu and is an entree. My second favorite. Fish not overcooked with the skin that could be a bit more charred. Gnocchi were pillowy. Overall I felt it was just slightly under seasoned, but no real complaints. Burrata and tomatoes. You can add extra $8 to the $39 lunch menu for this entree. Fresh and delicious. Staff here are always wonderful and never any issues.

Me and the girls came here for happy hour on Friday at 2:30pm. We arrived about 10 minutes early but we were seated right away. We had a few questions, such as what beer is on tap, the name brands of the Prosecco and the rose on special. After those 3 questions, our waiter made a comment, 'wow, so many questions' We were thinking....isn't that what we're supposed to do? Ask the waiter questions? He also made the comment that he was going on break and so someone else would be able to help us if we had further questions. So that was a little strange and we all felt a bit put down. It changed our excited girly happy hour, to not as happy. We all ordered drinks and a selection of appies. We ordered a dozen oysters, calamari, mussels, carpaccio and truffle fries. We thought the oysters would come first, but we were told that it would take some time because there is only one shucker, which was fine. We happily snacked on the fries, mussels and carpaccio. The mussels were massive! Another good choice. The oysters came out and they were so beautiful and fresh. They were worth the wait! We got a second drink and was still waiting on the calamari. After about 40 mins, we finally asked another waiter about them as our waiter disappeared. They came out hot and fresh. Overall, everything was tasty, but I wouldn't say outstanding. I think the waiter made our time here a little less inviting and put a damper on our meal. I'd like to come back one more time to see if it was just an off day, since the oysters were worth it!

Came by coast for a happy hour and highly recommend making a reso beforehand because it was sooo busy! Tried out a few of the menu items but unfortunately nothing was too impressive Mussels - some were not as fresh as others. Thai sauce was good but wish all mussels were fresher Wagyu carpaccio - it was ok, felt like there could have been more than 5 slices for the value but was pretty tasty Calamari - fresh squid and liked the sauce that it came with Crab dip - our fav of the night, very cheesy and tasty Raspberry cake - so pretty and tasted as good as it looked

Tried Coast for lunch and went with the Thursday special, the linguine vongole. Sat outside in their sectioned-off patio space by the road, which was nice. Service was friendly and attentive. The dish itself was just okay. the linguine lacked a bit of flavor and the clams seemed slightly undercooked. Was beautifully plated! Nothing bad, just not memorable. Solid 3 out of 5. Might go back to try something else, but not in a rush.

I love coming to Coast time and time again. Their happy hour menu and pricing is amazing. The staff, decor and location are fantastic. I just really enjoy being here because you can dine like a king without breaking the bank. Exceptional value and I love how the chefs try new things. Some things may not always work but you need to respect restaurants that are willing to take chances instead of staying with tired old menus. Servers are always super friendly and they have a great selection of wine. Lots of street parking and you can enjoy the most iconic Vancouver city views after your meal. Thank you Coast and Glowbal for always delivering an amazing dining experience. We will see you again soon!

Coast , Vancouver - what a lovely interior! Just as we stepped inside the restaurant, there was so much going on around us but the managers including the general manager was on the floor managing each and every table. Excellent service and kudos to ushers and servers for giving their best. Now let's talk about food. I just loved everything I ate there. Gnocchi was one of the best I have ever had. Tell me what not is on the menu.!! Everything from egg cone role as a starter to many such delicacies can be enjoyed here. Full course menu , entrees and deserts variety is huge. Drinks menu is full of fancy liquor options, red and white wine , cocktails and other selection. I must admit that I forgot the name of the red wine I had there was the best.

Coast is definitely a top tier spot. It's fine(r) dining, but also casual at the same time. My friend and I swung by for the happy hour oysters and learned they have buck-a-shuck oysters for a limited time on Friday & Saturdays only. We went to happy hour on a Sunday so we just missed it. Food was fantastic. Ambiance is also great. We chose to sit in the protected outside seating area. They had heat lamps on as well, so it wasn't cold at all. A couple negroni's later and we were feeling great. Our waitress was fantastic, and we would definitely recommend. Shrimp cocktail was superb. The shrimps were super fresh and the cocktail sauce was what you'd expect. Beef carpaccio was really my favorite. It was perfectly balanced with the capers and the bread crackers. Oysters were also very fresh. I would happily go again just for the oysters honestly. They were really fresh and sweet, and the mignonette Coast has is pretty tasty too!

    Crab dip was excellent

We came for happy hour and sat in the dining room. Great relaxing ambiance, good service without being too intrusive, and the food was great. Halibut popcorn was lightly battered and tender halibut inside. The crab dip was fresh, creamy, flavourful and not too salty! Wish we had more toasted bread for dipping. The blue fin roll was good but nothing special.

favourite happy hour spot with the best oysters (forgot to photograph those). Love to come here because I'm big on places with good service and theirs is top tier, even when it's busy! The restaurant is nice and the vibes are immaculate. Halibut bites are always a must for me as they are so delicious and not overly breaded. Light crispy and delicious!

We were STUFFED, for the price you're paying the portions are very fair and quality you can't beat! I've had seafood in the Bay Area, Boston, and even across countries in Asia, but I was SO impressed by Blue Water Cafe. It is a MUST if you're in Vancouver. Everything was honestly a 5/5, the only dish I would pass on is the Yellowtail, I just wasn't a fan of how much it was wavering between raw and cooked fish, along with the char. It's just not for me, but my parents enjoyed it. Nevertheless, some of the highlights was the sablefish, oh my gosh melt in your mouth. Sablefish is Vancouver locally caught, so very fresh and it has a sweet undertone with the soy and sake marinade. This was my favorite along with the Seafood Tasting for Two, which features scallop ceviche, Dungeness crab salad, albacore tuna tartare, and smoked sockeye salmon terrine. You get a diversity of fishes and flavors, which is most certainly worth the price point. It's the gems of the appetizers put into 1 order. Halibut was also noted to be locally caught, the slices were thin and a perfect app. Hamachi Kama is yellowtail collar, which has a rich, succulent meat. It tasted buttery and was also melt in the mouth. The Dutch Mule was a ginger ale with sorbet. Absolutely delicious mocktail, I held back on ordering a second. The service was also amazing!!! Our waitress welcomed us warmly to Vancouver and even gave us a complimentary dessert to welcome us to the area, even giving us tips where to go near the area and what sights to see in Vancouver.

From the gold railings to coat check to a piano on the stairs to an old school oyster bar showcasing their wares proudly on display, Joe Fortes has a lot going on for it. But perhaps more so than anything else is an amazing happy hour for anyone who loves oysters. Service Before diving into the food let's talk about service. The servers here are dressed in the old full whites with black ties and give you full service. They have an expert knowledge of the menu and are willing to give you any and all opinions if asked. They check on you frequently and make sure you're having a good time with enough banter to make it friendly and welcomed. Happy Hour - Alcohol With that out of the way, we can talk about the happy hour. Yes, they have a great deal when it comes to their house red and white wines where you can get 6 oz for $6 CAD or 9 oz for $9 CAD. Their beers range from $5 CAD to $8 CAD and their cocktails are all under $10 CAD. Happy Hour - Food They have some incredible truffle fries, cut thick and sprinkled with parmesan as delicate as snow for $9 CAD. Their crab & corn fritters are slightly chewy but packed with flavor and come at $12 CAD. The coconut prawns sound just as delicious as they taste and come at $13 CAD. I would avoid the Steelhead ceviche though as it was more mashed avocado than ceviche. However, HOWEVER, the star of the show are their oysters. Coming at $1.75 an oyster, you get to be as gluttonous as you'd like whilst keeping your pockets happy. Vancouver is known for their amazing seafood and with this happy hour from 3 PM - 5 PM it gives you 2 hours to fill your belly with as many oysters as you can. Even if you ordered 50 oysters you would be under $90 CAD. I should know, I did that. Last Thoughts Even without the incredible happy hour Joe Fortes would be a restaurant you have to visit during your trip to Vancouver. With a great selection of food on their menu, wait staff that feel old world and professional, and a setting fit for the city, the happy hour is just the bonus that makes visiting Joe Fortes even more enticing. Come with an appetite, leave with a smile.

After researching snail, I understand there are three different types of snail you can eat. This one is much different than the one if find in French restaurants, but I am glad I was adventurous and tried it. The Periwinkles I liked more than the snail however these were even harder to get out of the shell and you have to really stab and twirl to even have a chance of getting them out of the shell. We probably left over half in the shell. Pro-Tip : Get the jade conch! They gave me two complimentary as they knew I really wanted to try it and not have to order three entrees and a main entree to try everything I came here for. Thank you very much Shellfish Shack, as I loved the Jade Conch and would definitely get this again in the future. The conch were very large and came out of the shell fairly easily. They had two distinct flavors as you reached the bottom of the jade conch, they were more succulent and flavorful, the top portion of the jade conch was a bit spongier and chewier, but I liked these by far much greater than the snail and periwinkles. The girlfriend got the scallops, and they tasted sweet and delicious. Now if you're not sold yet on the place they have a fun game you get to play with the purchase of any beer. You crack off the cap on a pinko looking board and if the cap lands into one of the slots you can get free oysters or other free goodies. I ended up getting two tsing-tao beers but got the try again maybe next time slot both times : ) Great different experience, highly recommend! As always people SYOY!!!
