I chose the lobster louie for my appetizer and it was a great choice and was loaded with avocado and it was very filling and very tasty! The lobster thermidor was very tasty and fresh. The upgrade for the surf & turf was a good call because the steak was very good and tender. The dessert was also very tasty. The outdoor seating was a nice dining setting as it was very warm and cozy as they had numerous heaters outside. What made this dining experience truly wonderful was our server Rhonda. She took great care us as she was very polite and attentive, best service I have received in a long time. Overall great food, great atmosphere, and even better service. We decided to go to Coast happy hour for their happy hour oysters. It was fairly busy but good it didnt feel crowded. We found out they also have their house wine bottles discount during happy hour as well With food, we tried the crab dip, prawns cocktail and mussels in additional to their oysters. We liked the oysters, not big but they are the flavor which i like. My favorite was the mussels, very decent sizes and the sauce was great complement to the mussels! The prawns were very good and textures were great too! However i did find the crab dip a bit heavy and mushy in texture. Came here for Dine Out with my Mom and boyfriend. My Mom got the clam chowder, steak with half lobster tail, and sticky toffee pudding. Both my boyfriend and I got the shrimp salad, sablefish, and sticky toffee pudding. There was only one dessert available and additional upgrades for an extra charge. My Mom really enjoyed the chowder and both my boyfriend and I liked the fresh shrimp salad - it was a good sized portion with big pieces of shrimp. The sablefish was cooked perfectly and came with a side of rice. It had this really terrific sauce that really made the dish sing! Both my boyfriend and I really enjoyed it and my Mom said the Steak with lobster was good. Sticky toffee pudding was decent. Wish there was another choice but it was what it was. We barely saw our server, he didn't seem interested in us as barely engaged in any conversation while chatting up various tables around us. I came in for dinner on a Monday night and I decided to try the Lobster Night menu. For the price point, it is such a fantastic deal. I started with the crispy lobster and prawn roll. The roll was crisp and tasty, and the plum vinegar was a nice accompaniment. I chose the lobster Thermidor. Both the lobster and hollandaise were flavourful. The warm banana and coconut cake was a nice end to the meal- not too sweet and had a nice texture. The stars of the night were the staff. We had a reservation made for wifeys birthday. Greeted warmly by the hostess and promptly seated. Asked if we wished for patio or outside. Wifey wanted to dine in the interior. The decor was very modern and sleek. Comfortable and lively! We were given our menus and our server introduced herself and inquired about what beverages we wished for other than water(you have your choice of what type of water you want too). After perusing awhile we were good to order and wifey wanted to try two appies. The tuna tartare, and scallop crudo. For her main was sablefish and mine was the king salmon. Our drinks arrived and were made nicely. No skimping on the proper alcohol percent here. We were also asked if we wanted both appies at once or separately. We opted for at the same time. They were both lovely, the scallops were plated beautifully and were very fresh! The acidic taste of the sauce paired well with the delicateness of the scallops. The tuna tartare was tasty and served with taro chips. The taro chips were very crisp and served as a good vessel for the tuna physically. Taste wise, not my favorite. It wasn't bad but I felt something else would have been better paired with the tuna. Wife's sablefish was delicate, moist and delicious. She thought was a bit salty but I found it OK. It was served with soba noodles which imo were over done as they were very soft as compared to the firm texture I'm used to them being served like. My salmon was cooked pretty good! Crisp top and tasty(slightly less cook time and the fish would have been perfect) but overall decent! It was served with some gnocchi and sliced zucchini/ pickles. For dessert wifey got a seasonal dish, an orange pannacotta. Which was fresh on the palette and delicious. I ordered the warm banana and coconut butter cake with creme anglaise. My coworker and I went to Coast for happy hour after work. We didn't make a reservation but our group was pretty big (~15 people). They seated us in a room at the back. I appreciate that they gave us a space with more privacy, but the room's decor/lighting is quite different from other parts of the restaurant. The room feels like it's for a Chinese style family dinner instead of a HH with coworkers lol. They have quite a good selection of Happy Hour items, but it seems that there are no happy hour zero-proof drinks. I tried their $1.75@ oyster and mini lobster and prawn roll. The oysters were small but flavorful and fresh. Great for the price. The prawn and lobster salad on the roll was refreshing. The coleslaw on the side was alright. Same excellent service and management as Black and Blue, next door. We came at lunch time on Sunday, when it is also happy hour. What a great deal! Wines by the glass for $5, and great small plates. The sushi assortment was perfectly prepared, with a nice mixture of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. The salmon flatbread was also notable, made with mascarpone instead of the usual feta or ricotta. I visit Coast on a quarterly basis for work lunches. It's always solid and I've never had any issues. Items range from not bad to excellent. Fish and Chips. Fresh fish with crispy and light batter. Seafood Linguine. Part of the $39 lunch menu (appee and entree) and this is probably my favorite item on that lunch special menu. Good amount of seafood and noodles are perfectly al dente. Salmon. This is part of the $39 lunch special menu and is an entree. My second favorite. Fish not overcooked with the skin that could be a bit more charred. Gnocchi were pillowy. Overall I felt it was just slightly under seasoned, but no real complaints. Burrata and tomatoes. You can add extra $8 to the $39 lunch menu for this entree. Fresh and delicious. Some friends and I popped into Coast a couple weeks ago while visiting Vancouver from Seattle for the weekend. We were just wandering around downtown, not even looking for anything in particular, when my friend mentioned this restaurant with a really cool bar inside. We popped our heads inside and the friendly staff was enough to entice us to stay for a little while. We just had a few bites off the happy hour menu...oysters, truffle fries, bread and some drinks. Me and the girls came here for happy hour on Friday at 2:30pm. We arrived about 10 minutes early but we were seated right away. We had a few questions, such as what beer is on tap, the name brands of the Prosecco and the rose on special. After those 3 questions, our waiter made a comment, 'wow, so many questions' We were thinking....isn't that what we're supposed to do? Ask the waiter questions? We thought the oysters would come first, but we were told that it would take some time because there is only one shucker, which was fine. We happily snacked on the fries, mussels and carpaccio. The mussels were massive! Another good choice. The oysters came out and they were so beautiful and fresh. They were worth the wait! We got a second drink and was still waiting on the calamari. After about 40 mins, we finally asked another waiter about them as our waiter disappeared. They came out hot and fresh. Overall, everything was tasty, but I wouldn't say outstanding. I think the waiter made our time here a little less inviting and put a damper on our meal. Tried Coast for lunch and went with the Thursday special, the linguine vongole. Sat outside in their sectioned-off patio space by the road, which was nice. Service was friendly and attentive. The dish itself was just okay. the linguine lacked a bit of flavor and the clams seemed slightly undercooked. Was beautifully plated! Nothing bad, just not memorable. Solid 3 out of 5. I just really enjoy being here because you can dine like a king without breaking the bank. Exceptional value and I love how the chefs try new things. In Vancouver for a cruise, we needed dinner and aspired to fish. We picked Coast Restaurant, one of 2 fish houses recommended by our Hyatt hotel, after looking at the other and finding no spark there. At Coast, we had a greeting at the door from both the hostess and Mohit, the manager, that conveyed a comfort and welcome that just felt right. The table offered was a perfect spot to feel the comfortable tempo and interesting interior design features in the restaurant. The server was comfortably connecting and tipped us off to the possibility of a very memorable night, which turned out to be all we hoped for and more. Steve, the sommelier, was a wealth of knowledge and great as a teacher while being entirely collaborative and not condescending as is sometimes the case. Started with a shared Caesar salad, which was both delicious and split in the kitchen, a very nice touch. We both relished the nicely prepared king salmon. All in all, a great experience, so good that a second visit a week later on finishing the cruise followed, which was as comfortable and tasty as the first time. Coast is definitely a top tier spot. It's fine(r) dining, but also casual at the same time. My friend and I swung by for the happy hour oysters and learned they have buck-a-shuck oysters for a limited time on Friday & Saturdays only. We went to happy hour on a Sunday so we just missed it. Food was fantastic. Ambiance is also great. We chose to sit in the protected outside seating area. They had heat lamps on as well, so it wasn't cold at all. A couple negroni's later and we were feeling great. Our waitress was fantastic, and we would definitely recommend. Shrimp cocktail was superb. The shrimps were super fresh and the cocktail sauce was what you'd expect. Beef carpaccio was really my favorite. It was perfectly balanced with the capers and the bread crackers. Came here to try dine out last week after several years and had a fantastic dinner. Been here before so i knew it would not disappoint. Tried their dim sum Wagyu carpaccio, Hokkaido sea scallops. Others at my table had the shrimp salad and salmon Wellington. Also tried the nigiri plate and that was amazing the fish was so fresh and top quality. Located near the hotel we were staying we wanted something that was near us and just as the previous reviews stated I wouldn't recommend coming. ***What we ordered **Brioche Bun (6/10) ~ The buns were baked pretty well, although there wasn't anything special about it. Although if you do order the calm chowder you should definitely get this on the side to eat it with **Calm Chowder (9/10) ~ This was the best thing that we ordered. The soup was seasoned perfectly, the calm was cooked nicely, and it had a nice creaminess. Highly recommend eating this with the bread. **Calamari (2/10) ~ This came out soggy and bland. Honestly it was a pretty big disappointment. Not sure how that happened... **Sablefish (3/10) ~ This was a disappointment. The fish was a little tough, the broth was nothing special, and the vegetables tasted okay. Honestly, for $45 CAD. This is not worth it AT ALL. Everything was just mediocre or overall sweet. Went here for dinner. I've seen posts on IG raving about the seafood, so I decided to try it. I got the $65 set meal with good selection of appetizers , entree and dessert. The mussels were in a wine sauce - prepared well and cleaned well. The oysters were fresh with good accompaniments. The lobster and shrimp carbonara was creamy, the shrimp and lobster were perfectly cooked. It also had a good ratio of protein to pasta. We came on a Friday night for happy hour. We made reservations but honestly they probably weren't necessary. We got the oysters ($1.5), beef carpaccio ($16), Moscow mule ($6), salmon flatbread ($15), truffle fries ($10) and espresso martini ($15) The oysters are definitely the most worth it on their happy hour menu. There's only a handful of places that do 1.50 or 1$ oysters and this is one of them. The salmon flatbread has been on their menu since I first started going to Coast back in 2012. It's almost a must order as the portion is big and they are generous on the smoked salmon. You can't go wrong with this dish. The beef carpaccio didn't come with enough slices of bread. They slice they beef really big so it's kind of hard to eat when placed on the crispy bread. I think they should cut it smaller so that when you bite into it the whole piece doesn't end up in your mouth all at once. Makes it hard to eat. Also a bit too much sauce. Wouldn't order again Truffle fries didn't have much truffle flavour but it was really crispy and well fried. Would order again Espresso martini was the dessert and maybe one of the highlights of the night. It was well made and pretty strong. Espresso flavour came through nicely. Would order again Overall their happy hour is a good deal and I love the setting here. Our server was really nice and friendly. Attended to our needs 100% of the time even before we knew we needed it. Maybe checked up on us a bit too much but that's to be expected. Finally got to try coast while they're on their special lobster menu. Everything is delicious and on point. The special touch to the soup with corn and crotons and the salad is like a Cesar with lettuce and arugula. I personally enjoyed the stuffed lobster very much over the pasta. The lobster is very cheesy which we love. The dessert was also a pleasant surprise as I didn't think much of it but loved every bite of it because of how moist and tasty it was! Delicate without being overly sweet. Lastly our server gets a 10/10 as she seemed super busy all night but still provided stellar service, checking in regularly to make sure we got everything we needed! 10/10 would love to come back again. My friend and I were happy with the wide selection of drinks and appies for happy hour: oysters: $1.50 oysters and they were very fresh. 2 fish & chip cones: the creaminess of the Japanese tartar sauce paired well with the crispy tempura cod. torched sablefish oshi: I was expecting a smoky and creamy taste, but the sablefish was so thin, all I could taste was rice with teriyaki sauce. We were seated in a comfortable booth and I liked that it wasn't too noisy even though there were other customers seated around us. They had a happy hour and we ordered oysters and shrimp cocktail to start. There there 4 large shrimp and served with a tasty seafood sauce. I didn't try the oysters but my friends enjoyed them. I ordered a crab cake and it was the best one I ever had. It wasn't full of filler but lots of crab and not a fried cake where you aren't sure if it's even crab. My friends and I had a lovely dinner here tonight. I subscribe to various local newsletters online, most foodie-oriented, about restaurant openings and closings, specials and events. I had read that Coast was having a 20th anniversary special menu, only until Oct.20, where a bunch of their most well-known dishes were available for $20. Cool! I was pleased this wouldn't break the bank. We were also there during their Happy Hour (until 5:30 pm daily), which offers many tasty-sounding appetizers at kick-ass prices. (Fresh oysters on the half shell, for $1.50 each? WOW!). Our reservations were for 4pm and I was there 30 minutes early. Still, they were able to seat me, as I waited for my dinner party. I opted to sit in their pretty outside patio. It had the feel of a solarium in a garden, with hanging plants and suspended lighting. And the heaters were oh so nice! Our server was fabulous. (Wish I caught his name). Super nice, very attentive, made the night. I was a bit dismayed that to hear that the special $20 menu was only offered after 5pm. I had researched the menu online and read about this special prior to coming, and nowhere did I see it mentioned that this was only available after 5pm. The only limitation I read was that this menu was only available until Oct.20. So I was not thrilled. Luckily, one person in our party was held up at work and didn't arrive until 4:40 or so, so we were able to easily wait until 5pm and order these "special menu" meals. I ordered the bento box meal, which was an assortment of small plates. (I like sampler plates). I really loved about half the plates; the others weren't really my cup of tea (like the seaweed dish, the "salad" dish, the octopus dish. My friends liked these, though, so it was just me!). The sashimi I had was excellent, and there was a delicious tempura dish with a delectable sauce, too. One friend had the miso sablefish. It was a small portion, and he said it was good, but not stellar. (He lived in Japan for many years and is used to sablefish that melts in the mouth. Not sure he could find that here in Vancouver). Still, he liked it and ate it all. My other friend had the sirloin Oscar. I tried a bit. OMG this dish was delicious! The steak was wonderfully seasoned. It was the best dish of the night. I also ordered, for the table, some brioche bread with whipped butter. Man, it was good! Walking through the restaurant to get to the washrooms in the rear, I was really impressed with the interior decor and lay-out. There's a central "island" consisting of a 2 or 3-storey high column on which there are liquor bottles and the bar glasses as well as sushi and seafood on ice, and a round, circular counter at the base around which diners sit on barstools. It's a very dramatic and cool center- and focal point in the restaurant interior. Perhaps my only grievance - and I acknowledge it's a petty one - is the music played, and the volume of said music. It's so loud, and so techno. It made it hard at times for us to hear each other. Despite this, we all had a lovely dinner here and will return, for sure. read more

Mouthwatering seafood and then some. Coast, you are FABULOUS! This was my first meal while visiting Vancouver and it set the bar extremely high for every other restaurant that I went to afterward. If you love seafood, you will love, love, looooove Coast! I wanted to try them out for their famous happy hour but I'm SO glad that I opted for dinner instead. Dinner was absolutely exquisite! Let's talk about this ambience right quick; friggin' FAB-O! You walk in and feel like you've been transported back in time. The cute little vintage style booths and gorgeous wrap around bar are stunning! Service is just exceptional. Everyone is on their p's and q's and I respect that so much. The menu will make your mouth water. One of the rare times when I wanted to order every damn thang on the menu. It all sounded so amazing. And that wine and cocktail list?! Just wonderful! I had the most refreshing cocktail to start me off. It was the Strawberry Fields Spritzer and it was marvelous. I ordered the chef's selection of half dozen oysters, prawn cocktail, and miso sablefish. When I tell you that everything was phenomenal!!! Babyyy... bay-beeee! Ugh. So, so, sooo damn good. I can't recall the exact type of oysters that I had, but the bartender shucked and prepared them fresh right in front of me! Wowza, what a sight to see. It made ya girl feel uber special. The prawn cocktail was the fanciest that I've ever had! It came served over dry ice and just lit up the room. Everyone was staring at it once it made its' way to my space. Not only was it the fanciest prawn cocktail that I've ever had, it was also the largest! I didn't even know that shrimp could grow to be that damn big! Amazing! It was so fresh and the homemade cocktail sauce was tasty. The appetizers were lit, but nothing and I mean NOTHING could compare to that miso sablefish! Laaaawd GEEZUS! I must have melted after the first bite because I could feel myself sinking farther down into my seat. Eyes rolling to the back of my head. Oh yeah, this... this was IT. The sablefish was so light, buttery, and crispy. This was my first time ever having sablefish and it was love at first bite ladies and gent! How could it just melt away in my mouth like that?! What kind of sorcery?!! I mean, really. It was amazing. Aaaaahh-MAZING! Still dreaming about it to this day. The closest thing that I could compare it to would be miso black cod. But let's be real here; THIS tasted 100 times better. The smell, the flavors, the presentation; everything about this dish was perfect. Loved it to pieces. What a meal, what a meal, what a MEAL! Pleasant happy hour from 230-530pm. Enjoyed the buck a shuck oysters - usually $1.50 during happy hour but it's $1.00 during August. You can order no more than a dozen at the table each time. Enjoyed a glass of white wine ($5) and shared some other appetizers with coworkers. I liked their fries, calamari and beef carpaccio. read more

Coast Restaurant is celebrating it's 20th anniversary with a special menu for which every item is only $20 each, but it's only available until Oct.20th! That's only about 2 days from now! Bento Taster Miso Sablefish Tableside Buttered Clam & Squid Ink Vongole Warm Banana & Coconut Butter Cake Bento Taster was so beautifully presented and we thought the ahi tuna sashimi was the most incredible of all the bites that came in this Bento. Sablefish is always a favourite of ours and this one was no exception to the rule as it was delightfully soft and tender, with a wonderfully flavorful broth that accompanied it. Butter Clam & Squid Ink Vongole was by far the star of the show. Our server torched a pecorino cheese wheel in front of us and then tossed the pasta into the torched wheel to coat it with the pecorino cheese. It was quite a sight to behold and I've never had any other dish like this. The pasta was wonderfully buttery; the cheese which coated the pasta was a good amount, and not overpowering.  Portions were on the smaller side, but for a place like Coast Restaurant $20 was a fair price to pay for each dish. Ordering several dishes to share is definitely recommended. While chewing on my Vongole pasta, I bit into something hard several times. I wasn't sure if it was a piece of clam shell or perhaps some bit of sand that hadn't been washed out thoroughly from the clams, but I definitely bit into something hard. Our server was very apologetic and at the end of the evening offered to bring us a complimentary Butter Cake dessert as he felt bad about the mishap with my pasta. We were on a schedule and didn't have time to sit in the restaurant any longer so he had it packed for us to go. I don't know if this cake was the same size as it would have been if we'd had it in the restaurant or if they gave us an extra large portion as compensation for our vongole pasta but it was an extremely generous amount that we were given. When we got home we warmed up the Butter Cake in the microwave and shared it with our daughter. The Butter Cake came with a strawberry and a small container of Creme Anglaise to pour on top. Oh wow! My favourite part of the meal! The cake really was so soft and buttery, and I loved the harmonious blend of banana and coconut flavors. Great staff, greet you when you arrive, servers all pleasant. I enjoy this restaurant, go there for many special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, bringing out of town guests. Food is mainly seafood, very fresh and tasty. read more

After having sat down, we asked each other....."why is this place so empty and at Happy Hour?!".....now I know why. Here it is.... The Caesar is one of my favourite drinks, and I was craving it today for Happy Hour. Let me ask you something.....when you go for Happy Hour do you expect to get a proper drink at a discounted price, because you're giving them your business at an off time? Or, do you expect to get a half/ass drink because you're paying less? Which one? The Caesar I was served was a disgrace to all Caesars in Canada and all Bloody Mary's in the USA. It was watery, in a tiny glass with 90% ice and maybe....maybe a drop of cheap vodka with a tiny olive and an anorexic on the brink of death string bean screaming desperation.....and I'm being generous. (see pic.) The Truffle fries were ok and the Oysters at $1.50 were good. Even though the place was nearly empty, our server Kyle seemed like he was recovering from a hangover....slow, distracted, nonchalant with minimal effort. The busboy cleared our Fries before we were done without even asking. For a place like Coast you expect more. It's that simple. The service was forgettable at best. How do I put this kindly?....the Happy Hour at Coast made me rethink of ever doing another Happy Hour anywhere. read more
