Taiwanese stir fry rice noodles
Anna A.

This is the second time i had been to this restaurant but first time for dinnet menu items. We ordered a variety of items including soup noodles, stir-fry noodles, rice bento set and the signature taiwanese chicken nuggets. Overall, we really enjoyed the taste of the items. They were all well seasoned. However, for some odd reasons, almost all of the items were lukewarm. The only exception was the Seaame oil chicken soup because it was served with a candle light heater. Even the deep fried chicken nuggets werent very hot as you would expect for deep fried items. it feels like the cook was rushing and didnt stir-fry or fry the items long enough as they should have been I am unsure if the sides for the bento should have been serves warm or room temperature. But they were colder than room temperature but warmer than fridge temperature. odd. Because it was good when i visited the first time for lunch bento set and the taste of the dishes is good, i will try it again in the future to see if the temperature is a one-of issue?

This place has great Taiwanese classic dishes! If you are looking for an affordable meal, you should get the bento combos! They come with rice, a meat dish and 2 sides which is a good amount of food for the price. The restaurant is pretty big and many seats and has a clean and simple ambiance.

with a name like a.bento, i totally thought we were going for japanese, but i was wrong, it's taiwanese. a friend recommended this place for lunch, so we met up just before opening and snagged the last two parking spots in the back.l, and gave our licence plate at the front, and after lunch, they let us leave through the back door. they don't take resos at this place. we were a group of four famished folks, catching up on a tuesday at 11:30 am. the place is across from michael's on 656 west broadway. the interior is clean, modern, and bright, curved chairs, pendant lights, very chill and minimalist. i'm not familiar with taiwanese food, so i was happy to leave the ordering to my friend and focused on the bubble tea. my lychee tea was super thirsty quenching and refreshing. we shared a bunch of dishes family style: fried chicken, noodles, clams, shrimp with mayo drizzle, giant meatballs, and slow cooked beef brisket. everything came out piping hot and fresh. the clams were clean (no sand), meatballs were soft despite being huge, and the fried chicken was crispy and not greasy. the noodles were bland, and some sauces started tasting similar. service was friendly and attentive, they kept our water filled without us even asking. good food, fabulous friends, and conversation that could've gone on for hours.

Appetizer was bland. Clams were good.

I've been here 3 times because well, I'm Taiwanese and Vancouver really doesn't have a lot of good Taiwanese food options. However, food here is far from how food tastes like in Taiwan (I know because I go to Taiwan every year). The chicken nuggets and the fried basket were bland. The beef noodle broth lacks depth and flavour, and the worst tasting thing I had from the menu is this "sizzling plate" with fish. It was totally westernized and there was nothing Taiwanese about it flavour-wise. The oyster/shrimp omelette was decent though. Service is good, and ambiance is modern and clean. I don't think I will be back unfortunately as food is very mediocre.

I ordered the Deluxe Pork Ragu on Rice. It was quite yummy. The server came a few times to refill our water. The side dishes were potatoes and egg with tomatoes. My friend ordered the Szechuan Spicy Chicken Roulade Bento and she said it was good.

The fried platter is super tasty, such a sinful pleasure. Fried rice noodle is very pleasant. Oyster pancake however is a bit disappointing, I would prefer it with less sauce. Great service as always!

Contemporary Taiwanese restaurant located close to Broadway city hall station. It's a cozy place and doesn't get too crowded so it's relatively quiet. Good spot for a date! I got their chicken nuggets for appetizers, I asked the server if we could get some sauce with it because they were dry but she insisted that we try it without the sauce first. They were good - crispy and salty but definitely would be better with some kind of dipping sauce. For main course i got the spicy beef fried rice which was good, I would say 4/5. We also got the deluxe tri sauce chicken with rice, this was definitely more flavourful! Wasn't the biggest fan of the sticky rice cake that came with the chicken but the rest was good. I will say the portions were big for the value!

This is my favorite Taiwanese restaurant and it's very delicious. We were lucky to find street parking near by and came off hours on Friday. Ambiance was laid back and welcoming. We got sat right away and server was friendly and attentive. We ordered lunch combos, beef brisket and chicken nugget and it came with complimentary desserts, grass jelly. The portion was generous and we had no problem clean the plates. Lunch menu was different from dinner. You might want to check their website before you come. It's such a treat when we were in town. Great experience and we were looking forward to next visit.

I checked out their DineOut Fest menu a while back. I like the clean/chic interior, it's a comfortable dine-in experience. They're a modern Taiwanese-style restaurant. Nitro Oolong Tea: highly recommend this! It is just subtly sweet, and the bubbles/foam on top make it extra smooth and also creamy texture. Very strong and fragrant tea flavour. Pork Pepper Bun: Very flaky pastry, and had a good meat to bun ratio. Tad bit on the salty side, but it is definitely very flavourful. Taiwanese Chicken Nuggets: can't go wrong with this! I like how they kept it very traditional and included lots of deep-fried basil too. Squid with Five Flavours Sauce: the sauce is common for Taiwanese cuisine, but it isn't for everyone - it has a sort of sweet and vinegar taste with a very strong flavour of mixed spices. Served cold. Night Market Style Chicken: I'm familiar with this dish as being more Hong Kong/Cantonese style, but they've done their own spin where it is on the sweet side (more Taiwanese-style palate). Good portion of chicken, and comes with an egg too. Sesame Oil Chicken Soup: very rich soup, with lots of meat/ingredients inside

I've been wanting to try this restaurant since I saw it on Instagram. However, amidst the raving reviews of foodies in Instagram, there are a few dishes that are not quite at par. It lacks the WOW factor and the home run dish that I look for when eating out. *Seafood Pancake/Oyster: Have been craving for this dish since I left Asia. This dish is ok. I like the small size oysters they used. *Clear Broth Beef Noodle Soup: interesting noodle soup, different from the usual beef noodle soup where it's spicy and served with pickled vegetable, quite plain for me. It tastes very much like home cooked beef soup if that's considered good. *Night Market Style Chicken Steak: very strong pepper flavor which is not too delicious for chicken steak. It might work with short ribs but definitely not chicken steak. *Eggplant & Tofu Stew: not bad *Sweet & Sour Lychee Fish: presentation of whole fish standing on its side is definitely great. It is fried crispy to a point where some bony parts can be enjoyed. However, fish is coated with sauce that is super sweet, I guess they must have used the lychee syrup to make this sauce. The fish itself could have used some salt when frying to create that complex flavor. Overall, there was nothing that stood out except for the presentation of the fish. That said, food are ok almost like home cooked food. I definitely liked the ambiance - modern and clean, tables are set nicely with melamines that can be mistaken as stone wares.

It smelled so good when we sat down but we sat there for almost 20 mins before we waved someone down to take our orders. The food was good but some are a little too salty especially the tofu that's been soaking in the sauce. I would say my favorite was the taro chips with the eggplant sauce. Flavors for that was perfect. Also there was a flicking light that was so annoying.

Elmer P.

Very disappointed with this restaurant, the eggplant and tofu stew was very blend for a stew you would expect flavor and for the eggplant not to be so hard ( undercook ) well definitely no flavor, I know we show up at 8pm and this restaurant close at 9 but still our fish felt and look rush, If you are craving for this pancake their much better elsewhere. I would definitely not try this restaurant again

Exceptionally authentic food with great service. The oyster pancake is a must try. Food when dine-in and takeout are equally amazing.

Big Bowl Rice - Beef noodle soup

We…read morecame on a weekday afternoon right before the busy lunch hour - it was packed 30 min after we arrived! The gentleman (owner?) greeted us and provided us with some suggestions on their best sellers. During our dining experience, he was a little loud with shouting instructions to the kitchen and we did feel a bit rushed to finish our meal and not occupy the table with diners lining up. I ordered the beef noodle soup, and the noodles were prepared well (good texture and not soggy) and the soup had a slight but not overwhelm sour taste from the preserved vegetables. The beef wasn't as tender as it could be, but it wasn't chewy or tough to eat. Prices are reasonable at around $20 after tax and tips. While it wasn't the best or most authentic beef noodle soup I've had, it does hit the spot if I'm craving Taiwanese food downtown or want a hot bowl of noodle soup on a cold day.

I think most people do that so it also gets filled up during the lunch hour rush. The food is ok, nothing special. The price increase makes it even less appealing. I don't know why there is chili in my Taiwanese beef noodle soup. I don't like spicy soup. Lucky I am ok with spice but I wish it is stated in the menu? So if you cannot take spicy food, check with them before ordering. The beef noodle soup is tasty as I do like the addition of pickled vegetables in it, giving a bit of tartness. The beef is tender though the quantity is very little. More noodles than meat ratio. The combo is totally not worth it now that the price has gone up to about $13. If you want rice and noodle for lunch, I think Peaceful Restaurant across the street is a better bet. At least the portion is bigger.

Classic Brown Sugar Ice Bear $16+: definitely very fun and cute, and it's a shareable size. I liked how there was a layer of grass jelly and chewy konjac jelly on the bottom for added texture. The snout is made of ice cream and topped with a pair of Oreo ears. I'd recommend eating it quickly or perhaps getting a separate bowl to mix it. The ice is traditional Taiwanese-styled, so it is coarse and therefore doesn't absorb the syrup as well as bingsoo for example (which is fine/powdery ice). Soft Serve w/ Freeze Dried Fruit 6+: you can also get the soft serve in a cone which is about $1 cheaper, but you can't add toppings to it. I really liked the real freeze-dried fruits, especially the blueberries. There are other fruits available too (eg. Strawberries, raspberry, pistachio etc) which are all addition $2. The blackberries were a bit to big and had lots of seeds, so the texture was a bit too crunchy mixed with the soft ice cream. Dried blueberries were amazing though and jam packed with flavour. Since it's real fruit, some of them may be quite sour (which I actually enjoyed) as it pairs well with the sweetness of the soft serve. Soft Serve w/ Brown Sugar Pearls $6+: brown sugar syrup wasn't too sweet, so I enjoyed this as well. My favourite would still be adding freeze dried blueberries though, as it's more unique and fruity (personal preference) Espresso Meets Grass Jelly & Gelato $8+: pretty strong coffee drink, unlike a lot of bubble tea/dessert places, so I'd only recommend it to regular coffee drinkers (me). The drink is served hot with a scoop of gelato which melts very quickly. LOTS of soft grass jelly - you'll definitely get a mouthful of it every sip. Good amount of sweetness for me.

It wasn't on the main menu and there was just a picture of it on a separate flyer. It took a while for them to prepare it. There was only one person making the orders and they had quite a few pickup orders. When it finally arrived it looked really good. Milk tea ice cream drizzled with brown sugar sauce I think. The ice cream flavor was really nice and not overly sweet or over powering. Beneath the ice cream there was red beans, pearls, and mochi. And finally right at the bottom was the shaved ice which was soaked in the same sauce as the topping and it tasted good. Since the ice was at the bottom most of it had melted by the time we reached it. A good dessert to share especially if you like milk tea!

Each time, service was super slow, some staff are not well trained on how to greet customers or talk to customers, and I got green onions every time I asked for no green onions (I never gave it back though). I know it's not a big deal if you forget once or twice, but it's been like this every single time. I can easily pick it out, but if you have the option for customers not to put it in, then I do feel it's a slight problem if you constantly forget. The portions have been getting smaller and small every time. Overall, not as impressed as I used to be. I dont think it's the employees problems though, the boss is just under hiring for rush hour time! (Even during non rush hour their service is kind of slow..). They have people running around but half the tables are empty and not clean. They don't have enough employees hence everyone has to wait for a long time. When I asked, the manger rudely stated it's because we're 5. She was aggressive and argumentative which was not appreciated. This doesn't make sense as this was the largest table in the whole restaurant as well. Now when we asked about other smaller tables that we could move next to this table, their excuse was that other guest "may show up".  Now what about the current guest? They could easily have moved a two person table next to the 4 person table. Yet they were saving for guest who were clearly not coming. how silly is this by not moving a few tables to keep your customers happy. Will not be going to this location from now on.
