We headed to downtown Vancouver to look for some good eats and ended up in this holy grail. Although we have a big way in California, we decided to try it for the first time in Canada. It did not disappoint! It definitely is on my hot pot list. Everything is served malatang style which is by weight and they have A LOT of veggies, meat, tofu, noodles options... you name it! The staff was knowledgeable and nice. The food came out quick! We also were served free ice cream afterwards which was a nice palette cleanser. If you are unsure what to start with, you can never go wrong with miso as your base! Hot pot is definitely my go to favorite food and this one was one for the books!

Came here once after a Whitecaps game at night I am so impressed with their speed and service given how busy this location gets. During our visit near Halloween, they had drink specials where if you spend $30 you get a free drink and I thought this was a nice touch. It was a nice fruity Calpis with clear pearls. There are "bar seats" near where people choose their toppings, but if you go past the cash registers, there are additional tables past that area. They also have a washroom stall. They have the free ice cream here after your meal and that night it was a milk tea soft serve cone!

Came here on a weekday night and was surprisingly able to get a seat right away. Sometimes it could take up to half an hour to get a table! There was no waitlist and there were barely any seats left but I was lucky enough to find one last table to be empty just a moment ago. The wait staff was cleaning it for a minute so the wait was very short. I made it my mission to get my hotpot price down to $10 by making my bowl weigh less at the counter than usual and was successful with 50 cents over! I avoided the heavy noodles and got only a few dumplings and stuck to thin slices of meat and a few veggies. Still got full by the end of my meal. I chose the miso broth with mild spiciness and I thought it was delicious. Mild is perfect for those that don't want to sweat so much from eating all that spicy flavor but still want some of it in the food. The dumpling with the salted egg inside was so good. I also liked the fish fillet. I got some scallops as well and thought it was tasty. Free ice cream is always given after the meal. The ice cream that day was milk tea flavored and I thought it was tasty. The staff were glad when I told them everything was great when they asked me about the food. The staff were nice and I felt taken care of. My water pitcher was refilled very often. The staff were quick to take my finished bowl and give me my ice cream. They were so quick with it. Overall this is one of the best visits I've had at any of the big way locations and will be coming back. 5 stars based on this visit for sure.

This place is super popular at the moment. Long waiting lines during peak meal period. Gimmicky hotpot concept. Assembly line pick your own ingredients (vegs, protein, seafood, noodles, etc. When completed, cashier will weigh your bowl and charge accordingly. Pick your broth, wait in another line and staff will direct you when a table becomes available. When your bowl is completely cooked, they will bring your bowl to you. I picked some beef, vegs, tofu, mushrooms, fish balls, plain noodles. As far as the food of goes. Nothing extraordinary, more like making ramen/udon at home with alot more ingredients. Tomato broth was mediocre, probably from a can. Reasonable price, decent value for your money for the food and a unique hotpot dining experience.

If it were a drinking game, playing "Spot the Hot Pot Restaurant" in downtown Vancouver would get you wasted in a hurry. Even so, my wife and I were intrigued from the very first location we encountered, which just happened to be this one. The enticing array of sliced meats, veggies, and various edible aquatic critters idling in salty pools waiting to be devoured spans a wall running halfway to the back of the restaurant, was all the advertisement we needed. After checking in, a host(ess) explains the procedure: grab a bowl, fill it up with ingredients (warning: this is a pay-by-weight establishment!), and select a broth (or dry rub) to finish it off, pay at the counter, surrender your creation to the soup sorcerers behind the curtain, grab a table, and wait for your piping hot concoction to arrive, a few short minutes later. For added customization, there's a topping bar containing such delights as green onion, cilantro, salt, sugar, vinegar, diced garlic, and all manner of sauces you're also likely to find at a Mongolian Grill, ready to be scooped into little brass serving bowls which you can take back to your table, and apply at your leisure. In the end, our eyes proved larger than our stomachs. If you can finish the whole thing, you either underserved yourself, or you have a truly impressive appetite! Both my wife and I ended our meal with enough leftovers to go to last for another meal and a half, each! Fortunately, it does not suffer much from the re-heating experience. Lastly, a soft serve cone of (taro?) ice cream awaits you, should you somehow still have room for it, or are simply in desperate need of cleansing (and cooling?) your palate. It wasn't my favorite flavor of ice cream, but my wife and kids loved it, so I am clearly in the minority here. More than anything, even the delicious flavors (and everything was truly, wonderfully fresh and delicious!), my wife and I both remarked on how efficiently the whole place was run by the servers and bussers. As soon as a table was abandoned by its diners, than a veritable host of employees swooped in, bussed it, cleaned it, and turned it around for the next group. Similarly, each time one of our bottles of lemon-water was emptied, it was promptly replaced within a matter of seconds, sometimes without me seeing who it was that did it. Even our ridiculously bulky double-stroller was accommodated without issue or complaint by the staff, or any nearby customers. All in all, a shining example of an efficient, well-oiled customer service machine, without a single flaw to fixate upon. Hot pot may be pricey (well, it is when you overload your bowl, as we did), but it was one of the most fun, memorable, and tasty dining experiences we had in Vancouver, and one we are not likely to ever forget. I foresee a return visit when we make our way back to Canada for our anniversary trip, next year!

Went here during lunch hours during the weekday. It's super packed, and waiting list was pretty long. We put ourselves on waiting list around 11.45am and got in around 1 pm, it was pretty long wait. Ingredients consistently out, and takes a while to get refilled. I got all the balls with filling inside, some meat and a few veggies. Lunch time is happy hour, so drink of the day was included. The total was $14.91 after tax. I got some points to use so I got $10 off. Very affordable lunch in dt area. Food was great as usual, pork bone broth was tasty. Drink I picked was passionfruit, but it was too sour. Free ice cream of the day was milk tea. Honestly it's kinda mid. Big way is the place to satisfy the "hotpot craving" but not break the wallet. Not my favourite location tho.

Came here on a Saturday evening for dinner and were told we had 16 groups in front of us when we added our name to the waitlist. I thought it was going to be a long wait but we received a text about 10 minutes later stating our table was ready, so the wait wasn't bad at all! The service is very efficient and the turnaround time for the tables is extremely fast. One of the great things about this place is that you're charged based on the weight of your ingredients, so you can eat as little or as much as you want. The variety is really impressive, with something for everyone! For broth, we got the Collagen Bone Broth, Tomato Broth, and Tom Yum Broth. They were all delicious! At the end of our meal, we received complimentary soft serve ice cream. The flavor of the day was Black Milk Tea and it was soooo gooood! Overall, it was great value and the interior is so cute! This was the most aesthetic hotpot spot I've been to.

Tom Yum broth is delicious!

We loved this place so much we came back twice in our trip. For rainy, cold weather this was absolutely perfect. The wait was almost always constant, so make sure to get in on the virtual waitlist before heading in. Service was great, and they seem to have a system down to navigate busier times. You basically put whatever you want in your hotpot into a bowl, choose a broth flavor, head to your seat and they bring your hotpot to you. Both the house and the Tom yum flavors were great, but others seem to also love the tomato based flavor. I think it's great value (for American dollar) and we loved it!

I think this is probably my second fav hot pot place so far! It's different because you pay by weight but honestly, it came up to about the same price you would pay for a regular hot pot place with the same amount of quantity. It of course depends on what ingredients you decide to put, but I had a lot of light meats and no noodles. We went to their Robson location which is pretty small so we were lucky to get a table! Our server was SO sweet, she took the time to explain everything to us and had the brightest smile. I got their signature ma la tang broth (pork based) which was not too spicy, it was the perfect amount. I really liked it! They also had a schezuan dry mix which was basically just the ingredients without the broth, I didn't get it but I would definitely go back to try it! We also got soft serve ice cream at the end (included with your hot pots) which was the best way to end the meal. Can't wait to go back!

Imagine this, you're having a rough day, you just want some SOUP. But you're tired, you dont want to have to order you just want to pick what you want in your hot pot without having to talk to anyone. Go by yourself or with friends, come to Big Way to order by weight. Dont like Tung Ho? NO PROBLEM, you get to pick what's in your hot pot and broth. The line moves fairly fast so don't worry if you see one. Only downside is that you wont be able to choose how long to cook your meat like at a traditional hot pot place. Food - Their broths are very flavorful. And ingredients are fresh. Service - You can waitlist but it'll still be a little hectic especially during busy hours. When you get to the door you'll be greeted by a rep who'll give you your bowl and tongs. It's mostly self order and then you bring it to the cashier. Cashier is efficient and helpful. After you get your number you'll have to either find a seat or ask for help in getting a seat. The representative team should have a seat for you if you reserved in advance. It might take a few minutes for a seat to open up. Food is cooked for you Ambiance - For my introverts out there, semi overwhelming atmosphere, there's a lot of options and a lot of people. Tables are close together and it's fairly loud. Be warned and mentally prepared if you're not used to this type of environment. All in all, it's bustling and chaotic but you'll figure it out if you have some patience and then you'll be rewarded with some great food!

Corn, mushrooms, beef, lamb, shrimp, scallops, veggie noodles, spinach, and bean curd skin. Soup base #1.

I love that we can choose the items we want for our hot pot. I chose Soup #1, their signature, and it was delicious. I chose mild spicy and it was a bit spicy for mild level and me. We were told the wait would be 30-40 minutes, so we decided to walk around and get some boba, which was about an 8-minute walk. Within 20 minutes, we received a call and a text saying our table was ready, and we had only 5 minutes to arrive. We ran back as fast as we could and ended up arriving 2 minutes late. Luckily, the staff kindly seated us as the next group. Be careful if you plan to walk around while waiting -- make sure it's within a 5-minute distance.

Love this spot for a solid lunch. Be sure to join the waitlist ahead of time. Staff are super efficient though to ensure a quick turnaround time. I always get the medium spicy mala soup with my favorite ingredients. My meal came with a free drink (a weekday special) and ice cream at the end :)

Mabel L.

After hearing about Malatang on social media, I knew I had to try it--it's essentially a one-person hot pot! The Big Way offers a large selection, and if you visit during lunch, you get a free drink as part of their happy hour. The complimentary ice cream is also a nice bonus. The only downside is that everything is cooked all at once. This means some items, like noodles, can end up overcooked. If you go, I'd recommend skipping the ramen and opting for glass noodles instead, as they hold up better and don't get mushy. Overall, it was a nice experience with great service. I really hope they succeed and eventually branch out to Calgary!

The restaurant is pretty big and they have some big tables but all the tables had only one pot hot pot which makes it hard for people to eat. I wish they had multiple pots for bigger tables so that it was inconvenient. Other than that, their service was pretty good and they also had a really good AYCE deal for $39/pp! We got their two flavour soup base - spicy beef and tomato soup base. Their meats and veggies were all fresh! They had a massive self-serve bar with sauces, tofu, fried chicken (which was delicious), noodles, bean curd, and other items. It was a good selection! You also get dessert in the AYCE menu with two options - vanilla ice cream and coffee pudding. I got their coffee pudding which was not bad, but it tasted AMAZING when mixed with the vanilla ice cream so I would definitely recommend that.

I calmly told her with a smile that we didn't, as we are all allergic to chicken. Instead of an apology, she stomped away and slammed the receipt in my face. After reviewing it and realizing she was wrong, she simply blamed her coworker and didn't offer a single word of apology for her behavior. Beyond the attitude, the food quality is a bait-and-switch. The first batch of meat was okay, but every round after that was inedible, greasy fat. They take forever to serve you because they are too busy fighting with customers. The place isn't too busy at late night, but with steady business. Everything is pretty Big Way standard, with the same selection of food and sauce bar. The quality of meat however isn't the best. The beef roll is way too fat with barely any lean meat on it. The sauce bar is also a little dirty compare to the Richmond location. But it was cleaned shortly after. The soup bases are the same, with the same level of spiciness. All the ingredients are cooked properly, which is pretty nice. The food came pretty fast, and the service is standard. It was a little hard to find the waitress when we needed a folk for our child, but since the place isn't big, we just grabbed it ourselves. Maybe it's an American thing to linger and enjoy a dining experience. To stay longer than needed to…read moresoak up the ambiance and give a good moment some extra time for memories. But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.
