Big Way has become one of my go-tos when I don't know what to eat. I love the concept of building your own hotpot-- from beef to pork slices, variety of balls, veggies, noodles-- you'll most likely find what you want. My favourite is their lava egg fish balls!! You don't find many of these flavours at other places. They also have a variety of soup flavours. You can choose different spice levels as well. My favourite is the miso!! You can also get it dry. If you go before 5PM on any given day, you even get a free drink for their happy hour! Lines are usually long around rush hour, so it's a first come first serve basis. However, you'll usually get seated pretty fast even if you have to wait. There's a waitlist you can sign up for online as well! Free ice cream at the end of courses-- rotating flavours. They've had some good ones like Ube, Matcha, Milk Tea and Black Sesame! My one star off is that sometimes their service is iffy depending on who's working and sometimes it feels dirty inside. Their veggies aren't always the freshest either. Other wise, it's usually a pretty good experience!

It's a good idea for both customers and the restaurant. Firstly, customers pick the food items themself then weigh it and pay at the cashier. So no more regrets for order too much. Secondly, the restaurant can avoid the food waste from their inventory control. My seafood is so fresh mixed with my broth perfectly. This time l do not order the "Tom Yum" broth when I have my seafood in my hotpot. Their ice cream is also a good idea for relaxation after the hot pot dinner. They have two locations that is so close to each other. Make sure you don't go to the wrong one and waiting your friends.

THE PLACE for individual hotpot! My husband likes hotpot, but he doesn't like the sharing pot so when we found out about individual hotpot, especially this place where you can pick your own ingredients and soup base, we are hooked! It's sooooo different from the traditional hotpot culture and cater more toward western culture of individualism but at the same time, makes a lot more sense! If it's your first time, you might pick too many things and wont be able to finish. And it's okay as they do provide containers for leftovers. The price is very reasonable and they always give you free icecream at the end, which is nice to have. The place is always busy but you can put your name in the waitlist straight from Yelp and don't have to be there to enter the wait list. I like most of their non spicy soup base, and for me the mushroom one is a bit blend while the collagen ones is richer. I often find their soup is quite flavourful and seasoned well already so the sauce you made is only for dipping your meat. Follow their suggestions is often the easiest and fastest as the line for sauce could be long and you don't want to hold up the line.

-All you could....eat- I didn't see the value about going to a place like this. But I see it now Pay by weight...so prepare yourself. Better yet, bring your own weight scale for better price control. Comes with icecream and a candy on the way out and a winter melon tea. Much value!

I love big way, the food is always super cheap (I normally pay about $30 for my meal and a bubble tea) and delicious! They have tons of great options for vegetarians, and looks like it would be great for vegans too. It does very VERY busy here, I have stopped going during the popular meal times because it's not worth waiting. However, if you go at a more awkward time (like 2:30), the place is not busy at all and super quick! I highly recommend Big Way, just maybe try and go at an off time!

My friend recommended me this place for dinner. Big Way hot pot is the go to place for many instagram foodies that I follow so I HAD to check this place out. When my friends and I arrived around 5pm on a weekday, the waiting list was very long. Queue time was about 25-30 minutes. You put your phone number in the tablet at the front area and an automated phone call would call you when your table is ready. I love this waitlist system because you don't have to stick around for the staff person to call your name in person. We were given large bowls and tongs and we could pick out a huge amount of raw ingredients for our hot pot. One section had all sorts of meats and seafood, while another section had noodles, veggies, and more. Everything was fresh and there were lots of each ingredient. I got a assortment of basically everything that looked good to me. When I was done picking out my food, the staff at the counter weighed my bowl, I paid, and I got a sign with a number on it. The staff cooked my food in the meantime. I got a table and waited for about 10 minutes for the staff to cook it. A server would hand over our food at the table we were sat at. It was a very orderly and organized process despite it being so crowded. Big Way also has a huge selection of sauces and garnishes. I got oyster sauce, soy sauce, and other random garnishes and asian sauces. It turned out to taste amazing. Very salty and just a little sweet. Each dip into my hot pot ingredients tasted pretty great. The sauce table station is really small. Only one person can grab sauces at a time, and only a few people can queue at the tiny area. The food in general at Big Way is amazing. I liked the premium sliced beef the most. You get a selection of broth at Big way. I chose their new laksa sauce. Apparently, its only available in a couple locations. The laksa broth was delicious. I ate every drop of it. While my friends ate, the staff checked on us if everything was fine, and replenished our waters which i really like. We felt taken care of. The staff were all smiles as well. We were then each given free green tea ice cream for dessert and cantaloupe flavored hard candy which was a very nice touch. The dining area is very clean but the tables are very close to each other and it can get pretty crowded in there. They have colorful hand painted murals on the walls. Big Way Hot Pot has got it all. Great food, friendly staff, good service....all at a reasonable price. Great waiting list system as well. . Big 5 stars out of 5 based on this visit. I will visit Big Way Hot Pot again very soon and you should try it too!

Finally got a chance to try this chain after hearing so many people gush about it. This review is for the location that is technically on Wilson, around the corner from Kingsway. There are actually 2(!?) Big Way locations on the same block (the other location faces Kingsway). Caused quite a bit of confusion. FYI the Chinese name for this place actually means "big flavour". Something got lost in translation, but the English name works and definitely applies here. Parking is available on the side streets. For the uninitiated, below is the procedure for eating here. I have to mention this because it is different from other places around here. Would've saved a lot of hassle if someone had posted this. The closest thing I can think of is Mongolie Grill. 1) Go online (smartphones work too) and make a "reservation" on their website. This is not a "time" reservation, but a "queue" reservation. Depending on the time of day, there could be 0 groups, or 20 groups in the queue. It swings wildly. Cancel and re-add your group as necessary to try and "time" your arrival. Also because of this, personally I recommend eating here outside of peak hours. As of the time of writing, there is also a happy hour special (free cold jasmine green tea before 1700). 2) Go to the host upon arrival and check in. Then stand around and wait outside with the hordes. 3) When your group is called, the host will give each person a personalized pot and tongs. Now it's onto the epic meat and vegetable stations. Remember that the food is sold here by weight ($40/kg as of the time of writing), so be a good Asian and load up on the "expensive" items. Why pay the premium price for "cheaper" items such as vegetables or noodles? 4) After filling up, there is a 2nd lineup for paying. This is also the time to decide if one wants a drink. Weigh your pot and pay. Supposedly the scales are tared to the weight of the empty pots, so nothing to worry about there if you trust them. Tell the cashier your soup base and spiciness level, and take the numbered stick/pole thing to your table. The cashier will take your pot and stick it into the cooking assembly line. At this point, the host will assign the table as well. 5) Put the numbered stick on your table, then hit the sauce station lineup. Load up. Personally I recommend loading up 2 sauce dishes, as these things are quite small. Also you don't want to line up multiple times. 6) The host will bring the cooked pots to your table. Enjoy your food. 7) Be sure to grab the complimentary green tea ice cream (limit 1 per person) at the end. This place is not for the claustrophic. The place is freaking packed. The entire time, my friends were getting jostled by the hordes. This is definitely the authentic Asian experience. The food here is freaking good. Quality is most definitely there. The "Big" in Big Way does not disappoint. The meatballs are massive. Ingredients are fresh. Everything was delicious. I had the spiciest soup (Big Way hot) and it actually isn't too spicy by Asian standards. Nice kick without melting one's face off. I guess the other thing worth mentioning is that because of the price, this place favours smaller eaters. For people who can eat a lot (1 kg or more), it may be more economical to eat at some of the other AYCE places in the direct vicinity, such as Chocho, Marble House, Happy Lamb, or Liuyishou. Other than that, would I eat here again? Absolutely. Recommended.

It doesn't matter which big way you go to the food is always going to be top notch!! I am an absolute fan of the signature ma la tang broth and I even dream about it sometimes. Oooo! Fragrant, bold and spicy ! All the ingredients are always fresh and you can buy as per ur budget that day so it's pocket friendly!

    Signature mala broth

Visited during happy hour and you get free drink + ice cream! For drink, you can choose one of lemonade or green tea and for ice cream, it'd be chocolate. Pay by weight, ours costed around $40 for two (see pic for amt). The place was pretty clean w lots of options, we chose the signature mala broth and wasn't too greasy!

There are so many Big Way hot pot locations throughout the Metro Vancouver area now and this is the location I think is the most cramped out of all of them. Came by on a snowy day to have some cozy food and that was exactly what I got. Tried out the mala soup by I didn't find it as flavourful as the green pepper one so I'll go back to that one next time. They did mix up our orders even though we had numbers at our table but we figured it out

We probably showed up around 5:30pm on a Monday and we got to go straight into loading our individual pots with what we wanted. When you enter, you get a pot and a set of tongs. You load up your pot with the meats, seafood, veggies, noodles, etc that you want. You then pick a broth, your pot gets weighed for payment (without the broth), and they cook it while you get seated. You can go make your sauce(s) while you wait for your pot to finish cooking and come to you. At the end they ask if you want ice cream, and if you do they bring you matcha ice cream in a black cone. The matcha was way too strong for me so I didn't care for it, but I did like the melon candy that was at the sauce bar. When we left at about 5:30pm, there was a good crowd waiting for their turn...it's a popular place so try to go early!

Learned how late Big Way hot pot is open till and we made our way out at midnight one night. It was actually still quite busy, but I felt we managed to get a spot sooner than any of our other visits earlier in the day. You still get free ice cream at the end of your meal during late night.

I enjoy the value of a good weighted hot pot place but this Big Way location is always packed and has long wait times. There are two locations in Metrotown, the one facing Kingsway is more popular. There were 17 parties ahead of me at 10pm on a Saturday. Took 30 minutes to get called in. Lots of variety of sliced meats, veggies, tofu, noodles, seafood to pick from but very messy set up as there were other ingredients dropped into other containers. Not great for anyone with any food allergies as everything ends up touching. It took us 15 minutes to get our ingredients while standing in line to pay. We were very squished at a 2 top, I could barely squeeze in, the neighbouring table was very close as the space is small. Staff were trying their best, running around turning tables as fast as they could and bringing everyone ice cream. I did enjoy the collagen bone broth and liked the sauce bar where you can customize your broth.

The taste is really just the broth (I always get the Chinese herbal soup) and it was good and flavourful in the beginning, but of course after cooking some proteins and veggies in it, it does change the flavour. If you order the combo, you order your choice of meat, soup base, carb (rice or noodles), and drink all for $20-25! This is excellent value for how much food you're getting and I always leave full! Also stomach ache free which typically happens to be the case when I go to other hot pot establishments :D

Several people who walked in had to wait at least 30 minutes. The service is quick and efficient, and they are fast and attentive with our requests or clearing our plates. The interior is a bit on the older side and outdated looking, and it can definitely feel muggy inside with all the continuously bubbling hot pots. I ordered the Beef Blade Eye Hot Pot Combo ($19.95) and I think it's a great deal. It comes with a plate of meat, a bunch of vegetables and side items like fish balls, tofu, shrimp, etc., choice of rice, udon or vermicelli, a drink, and a soft serve! I chose to get the udon, a yakult green tea, and the taro soft serve. The ingredients are decently fresh and everything is so efficient. I feel like you can't go wrong for all these things and at this price!

We went there for the all you can eat hotpot, which was $43.99 per person for dinner. They were pretty busy on a Friday night, although we were able to get a table because some reservation didn't show up. Medium sized interior with mostly booth seating, and the entrance is narrower and expands to the back. It's a personal hotpot so each person gets their own stove and order their own soup base. Ordering is done via a tablet. They also have cooked dishes like skewers, fried mantou and other things on the menu in addition to the hotpot ingredients. Some of the items cost extra and are labeled with the cost. In the center, they have the sauce bar, desserts bar of mostly Chinese jellos and also an ingredients bar with things like spam and quail eggs. I got the satay broth and it was decent. Ingredients are served reasonably quickly. The quality of the meat is decent. The milk-marinated beef is actually soft, and the usual sliced ribeye, lamb shoulder and pork belly are fine. The cooked dishes are decent as well, as we tried their pork trotters, fried mussels, and lamb skewers. The selection for hotpot ingredient is as you'd expect for an AYCE place, but the cooked food selection is a bonus. Definitely stuffed myself and was a satisfying meal on a cold winter day. Not the cheapest meal, but not a solid value.

I'm so glad i randomly chose to have dinner on christmas day here, i literally made resos the night before and it was such a breeze! The new icecream flavour is watermelon it was so delicious too also complimentary with all you can eat and don't forget to get the token for free cotton candy!! The ambiance was quite lively and busy. Pretty well ventilated .. tables are spacious. I still need to try the dimsum here one day!!!

Hidden gem of an AYCE hot pot place on Kingsway, near Gilley…read more Parking is available next to the building, as well as on Kingsway. They really did an awesome job on the interior. Feels like communist era China, with the propaganda style artwork and decor. It really feels like one is eating at some streetside outdoor restaurant in a Chinese village. Special mention. Even the dumpy wooden tables feel authentic. With that said, this is actually one of the cons of the place. There is simply nowhere enough room to put the uncooked food, even with a side table. And the place sure is authentically cramped. Knock 1 star off. The tables aren't actually piped into a gas system. Instead, the dips in the table hold the portable type hot pot burners that use gas canisters. They do run out occasionally, so be sure to check the flame every once in a while. Staff are friendly and professional. No complaints. My friends and I did the dinner AYCE. Drinks are not included. However, they did include a (1) teapot of cold peach(?) pop, which really hit the spot. No refills for this one though. Besides the typical beef and lamb slices (good quality for both), most of the rest of the food is self serve in their refrigerated sections. Special mention. My friends and I loaded up piles of animal bits. There are skewers, seafood, marinated meats, and other goodies. I felt like a kid in a candy store. Some may not like the whole self serve thing, but personally I found this to be way more efficient than other places where one has to order then wait for the staff to bring the food. As of the time of writing, there is also a late nite AYCE special starting at 2100. Only reason I am not giving this place 5 stars is because of the seriously cramped seating, as well as the tables that are too small (as mentioned above). With this in mind though, I would gladly eat here again. Recommended.
