I had previously been to another location of this restaurant and this location in burnaby is way better than the other one. Service was very attentive and polite. The hot food stations were replenished within a reasonably period of time and skewers came vey quickly as well. We opted for the highest tier with lobsters and other hot food items. most of the skewers were done well without overcooking and drying the meat. Hotpot was very clean and replenished quickly at well. Only downside was the hotpot and some hot food selections werent as hot as we preferred. This is definitely the preferred location if i visit this chain restaurant again

This place gets very busy during dinner - give yourself enough time to wait for a table, or plan ahead and get yourself on the waitlist ahead of time. We definitely had way more food then in the pictures, however I forgot the part time photographer job, as they give you a 2 hour limit, and I was starving . Skewers were pretty fresh and flavorful, and the skewers actually taste different from each other! - (some places, it is so heavily seasoned, that everything taste the same) - They also had a hot pot section which we ignored, as we wanted more meat - Pricing is on the upper end of things, so maybe do this as a treat yourself experience. Service was slightly hit or miss, as it was challenging to wave people down , despite there being so many people working!

For my father in law's birthday we came here for dinner. We got the highest tier one and it included lobster tail and beef tongue. My fav is still the numbing pepper cold clam appetizer dish they have in the self serve station, I can eat 10 plates of those myself! I also really enjoyed the broccoli skewer, and I'm not even a veggie lover. I recommend trying! Meatwise I think the lowest tier is more than enough, the mid tier doesn't have anything I particularly like. Also you will be so full, so don't eat too much filler food, make it worth it Service is always top notch! Our server is sooooo friendly and nice. But the speed of grilling is hella slow.

Although there were both skewers and hotpot's, we only ate skewers and they were SO tasty. My favorite was the beef options, but my party told me shrimp was also amazing. Was not salty or over cooked whatsoever. I'd definitely recommend, and I'll be sure to come again in the future. Workers were nice and attentive, minimal service but they were very kind.

Looks like Meat Up has now expanded to the Metropolis area. Parking is available in the lot next to the building, as well as on the side streets. The interior is a bit bare, modern and trendy. Nice dark trim. Does the job. Staff are friendly and chatty. No complaints. As of the time of writing, AYCE is the only option. There are 4 tiers - 1 for hot pot only, then 3 tiers of skewers. Skewers are ordered through the staff, while the hot pot is DIY. Deliver to the cooking station, and staff bring the cooked pots to your table. The pots are shallow, which is nice, as it means there isn't excessive soup. Hot pot ingredients are fresh. There are a few differences between this location and the Richmond one. 1) Pricing here is noticeably more expensive. The rate is the same all day, while in Richmond, there is different pricing for lunch and dinner. In other words, expect to pay dinner pricing for lunch here. 2) This place has a larger hot food selection. For example, this place has clams and fried rice, while Richmond doesn't. 3) This location has the epic open grilling station. I just stood there and stared at the guy inside cranking out pile after pile of skewers. I could watch all day. 4) This location has an ice cream cone (limit 1 per customer) and coconut dessert, while Richmond has just a tiny scoop of ice cream in a cup. The recipes are pretty consistent between this location and Richmond. My buddy and I destroyed ourselves (and multiple animals) with great enthusiasm and joy. The only food that was not good here was the oranges. Not sure if they simply had a bad batch, but they were actually tasteless. This was the one item I couldn't eat. Definitely worth a visit if one doesn't feel like eating vegetables. Recommended.

It was our first time to dine here. The whole eating experience was excellent. The service was great. The server Irene was great. She was friendly and helpful. Overall, the food was tasty. We went for the $36 all you can eat. We tried a lot of variety of food. It included hot pot and different skewers as well as fried rice, noodles, other appetizers and icecream. I would highly recommend people to come here with family and friends. You must be able to eat something that you like. I would come back and try other food next time.

As someone from Washington State who frequently drives up to Canada, malatang and BBQ skewers are two foods that I try to get every time I visit. We usually hit up spots like Big Way and Happy Tree, so I was SO excited to learn that this place serves both AND it's AYCE. Our Canadian friends were the ones in charge of ordering so I'm not really sure of everything that we ate. All the skewers are super solid and well seasoned. My usual favorite protein is lamb but it wasn't really discernible from other meats here to be honest. I was surprised to find that the chicken skewers were my favorite because they're usually my least. I felt like there wasn't much consistency across the meats though. Some were tender while some were too tough. There was both a cold and hot bar but we really only got food from the cold bar. The clams were very nice to snack on but the cucumbers were quite bland- we used to sauce bar to make our own cucumber salad mix haha! The malatang/hot pot was also pretty good. All the ingredients were good quality and the malatang broth was hearty and savory. Our Canadian friends said that they usually get the tom yum so I would get this next time to try. All in all, this spot was good but it wasn't great. I definitely prefer places that offer just BBQ or malatang, but it was a cool experience nonetheless!

Meat up second location opened in Burnaby. We had to join waitlist , so, I checked waitlist since late afternoon frequently, luckily we got a table without a long wait. Staff mentioned they only offer Diamond or Gold sets only. Not Classic. Classic are already included in Gold, so, I felt a bit strange about their offer, anyway, we ordered Gold. Unlike Richmond location, we must order through staff. We ordered Lamb, beef, chicken wing, beef tendon, pork belly, pork intestine, chicken gizzard, prawn, beef brisket tendon for skeweres, then, eggplant and custom made hot pot with pork bone broth. Hot pot and eggplant were great as usual. Side menu such as chicken skin, onion ring, fried rice, eggyolk mochi, other vegetable dishes were also good. From skewers, lamb and beef brisket tendon were great item. And beef and various type of pork items were also good. We really enjoyed visiting Burnaby location. However, service was a bit slow and some of items were forgotten. I understood restaurant has just opened, so, I wish they will improve the points. We will visit again.

Waiting time: 1/5 Cleanliness: 3/5 ‍Service: 3/5 Taste: 4/5 Pricing: 3.5/5 Overall: We put our name down for a group of 4 people on Yelp (around 5:30PM), and waited for almost 2.5 hours for our table. It was a Friday night, so that could be an added factor into the long wait times. Cleanliness and service was average. They may have been short staffed because our empty plates were piling up at one point. But the guy (maybe the manager?) was very attentive because we had asked him about our order, and we received it after but just gobbled it down. He thought we still didn't get the food, and checked in on us. The quality of the meats (very juicy and not dry) that we got was worth the wait. Oh and it's AYCE with a 2 hour limit, and DYI hot pots are included! Will definitely be back!

It was my sister's birthday awhile ago so she wanted to have a birthday meal at the Meat Up. We brought our parents here to dine as 4 people so that my sister can dine for free. I think this is the only AYCE place for birthday person to eat free while 4 people dine here. Their lunch special is $35.99 per person this includes Malatang and unlimited skewers and sides. I loved the idea of Malatang included as a lunch special while Big Way charges food by weight. The price is much cheaper than Big Way as well. You can pick meats, veggies, seafood, fish balls and noodles. I don't recommend mini squid in hotpot since it doesn't taste tender in the soup. Loved all the toppings in my food. Wide glass noodles were so yummy! Side food section was awesome! Spicy clams, marinated meats, cucumbers, salad, fried chicken, chicken skin, taro donuts and oranges were good! Icecream tasted watery it didn't have much dairy in it. Skewers were excellent! We rarely eat lamb at home because of the peculiar smell of lamb. Chicken wings, pork, chicken and beef skewers were all tasty! Skewers are always precooked freshly before reaching your table. I could eat their oranges endlessly. The Meat Up is a total foodie's dream! Can't wait to go back there one day! Even my parents loved the food here.

we can't eat as much as we used to, but we enjoyed our experience at the richmond location so much that we had to check out the burnaby spot too. same concept overall, though the staff did mention that the two locations operate separately. at meat up, everyone at the table must agree on the same menu, and of course, food wastage is frowned upon and charged. we went with the classic at $35.99 (gold is $48.99, diamond is $58.99). the classic doesn't include lamb skewers or lobster tails, but you still get cold snacks, deep fried bites, and about eighty hotpot ingredients. plenty of variety, lots of healthy options, and everything looked fresh, clean, and well stocked. one of the nicest parts is that they cook both the hotpot and skewers for you. once you've placed your skewer order and picked your hotpot ingredients, choose your soup base, get your condiments and sauces, and check out the buffet. no need to worry about how much your bowl weighs and how much it's going to cost, like at big way. the burnaby location is newer and more modern than richmond, but i still like the bright neon lights at richmond. when we arrived around 5:30 pm on a thursday, it was already busy with people waiting outside. we used the yelp waitlist, and even though the tablet showed an estimated 52 to 67 minutes, our table was ready by the time we got there. the skewers came out sporadically, and it felt like some orders were either mixed up or forgotten. the zucchini was seasoned well. the prawn and new orleans chicken were good, but the beef tasted a little fatty. the cold dishes included spicy clams, edamame, and a cucumber salad that was oddly mixed in with the vegetable salad. the yuzu lotus root salad was the standout for me, refreshing, thinly sliced, with a nice crunch, and the sweet citrus dressing tasted a bit like a korean marmalade honey tea. no seasonal fruit that night. the hot snacks were less impressive. the fries, onion rings, and chicken skin weren't fresh, and they didn't have the fried chicken. the rice ball, though, wasn't bad; it reminded me of a deep fried mochi with coconut milk and sago inside. this location also has chocolate, vanilla, or twist soft serve, in a cup (no cone, as shown on the menu). overall, even though the burnaby location is rated higher, we still preferred richmond for its food quality and consistency. the burnaby space is nicer, but the richmond experience felt stronger.

We stopped by for a weekday lunch right at opening. I highly recommend to show up early if you can as the restaurant gets busy fast. We also were able to enjoy a $5 discount for their diamond level menu ($54 after discount). It was part of their weekday special pricing. I like how we do not have to do the cooking. The food arrived cooked to our table. The skewers stay warm with the mini meat tray warmer. For hot pot, we picked out ingredients, chose a soup base and they also prepared it. Lastly, we helped ourselves to the cold food section and some of the prepared hot food like the chicken skin. Shelly and Irene were both fantastic servers. They made our dining experience really enjoyable. They were efficient at their job of explaining how to order, taking our orders and clearing dirty plates. Overall, it was a good experience to try once in a while. I would come back when I am craving for some BBQ skewers and hot pot combo. My only complaint is the parking as they have a small parking lot that fills up quickly.

Restaurant was pretty big on the inside with lots of seating. Tried the magic pot for $25 a person but the options for ingredients were pretty limited would probably go to a pay by weight hotpot spot next time instead.

Staff are friendly but understaffed. Once the place filled up they were swamped. Signature steamed seafood pot - definitely on the pricey side, but they don't skimp out. Special mention for the presentation. Plenty of goodies including an entire lobster, half a large octopus (tenticle/arm half), snails, oysters, scallops, prawns, and fish balls among others. Basically everything without fish. Served in a large tray (the ones seen at banquet buffets), and everything cooked in broth. This was enough to probably feed 4-5 adults (assuming average appetites). So pretty. Deep fried squid with fries - honestly this dish was meh. Basically exactly what it sounds like. Squid is tempura style. Nothing special. I'd skip this one. Bossam (pork belly wraps) - served with tofu and spicy kimchi and some vegetable (kelp?) as well. They don't really give enough wraps compared to the pork slices. Decent portion size. My friends and I gobbled this up. This place also serves makgeolli (Korean rice wine) for a very reasonable price. Goes well with the food. Overall my friends and I left happy. Wouldn't mind coming back at some point to try some other dishes. Recommended.

This whole experience started off wrong they reservation ended up 30 min late, which these things happened so we weren't put off yet. We finally got seated and the waitress was so apologetic and handed out the menus. Now half the menus were for the brunch service instead of the dinner service. Again it's not a big deal , she took our drink orders and we didn't get those for thirty minutes. Now we're getting put off so it's now an hour past when our original reservation time. We get ignored after the initial seating and only have water and are waiting for drinks. She finally takes our meal order and totally messes that up. Half the table got there mains before the appetizers (after another 30 min). Made another drink order two people didn't receive their drinks after 45 min. Half the food was cold asf . Orders were missing and we essentially had to beg someone to clear the tables we had. By this point it's been 2.5 hrs 1 round of drinks missing food orders and food coming out cold I was done and ready to go. Most of the time if there's a big group of the waitstaff you'd ask what the special occasion was about? Unfortunately that didn't happen ( it was our friends birthday) so at this point the birthday girl was not in a good place and was feeling bad because she wanted to eat here. We at this point requested to talk to management cause the whole situation was out of control and it's clear to me that there was a complete breakdown in the back of the house and the front of the house was not prepared or untrained or understaffed or all of the above. Many of us have worked in the food industry for years so we gave them more than enough grace to get their act together. They failed spectacularly, they did comp parts of the meals and services but that was too little too late. Now when we were leaving we actually bumped into other customers and they had a similar experience as well. All in all I must say that this was by far the worst dining experience I've had in years. I will not be going back anytime soon. I'm not sure what broke down during service and if someone doesn't get disciplinary actions over these issues I'd be very surprised. If you go you've been warned is all I can say
