--Sept 2025-- I wanted to come here again to make sure the last time wasn't just a one off. This time I asked about the hot bar. Most of the things that have labels but are empty are for dinner time. They really should take the labels off. This time they had sweet and vinegary riblets which were surpringsly good. Their "dimsum" is just mantou breads...both of them. The hot and sour soup was neither spicy nor sour. The prawn chips were partially stale. The meat this time tasted better. I would still never eat the lettuce above the raw meat. I'm still on the fence about this place.

Hot Spot Buffet has hot pot or Korean bbq ($39.99 during dinner) and both for $2.99 extra. There is a 90 minute time limit. They also have a section of premade foods that seems to change as the labels didn't match the hot plates. There is also a fried section with wings, spring rolls and fries. Also dim sum buns if you don't have enough carbs. The hot pot and grill section is quite extensive with your regular offerings. When paying, was advised there is a surcharge for credit card (1.75%). Didn't see any signed indicating that. Over a good experience, might was a bit hard to handle getting both options. Perhaps just grill next time.

They normally don't allow grilling for one and will try to make you sit at the bar with a butane stove. I argued that it wasn't busy when I went and they didn't explain the reason well enough. Eventually I managed to get a grilling table. The ingredient quality is good and if you tinker with the dial you can turn up the heat to get a nice Maillard reaction texture.

This AYCE place took over where Sumo grill used to be. The interior and seatings are quite comfortable. There is option for regular and premium options AYCE. I was confused by the menu at first. If you decide to go for the premium option, then you use the QR code to order the premium item. If not, you just go out to grab the food from the fridges. We did the regular option but added $3 to get both the grilled and hotpot option. This option also provides you access to their hot food station. It is a lot of food and options. It was little chaotic for us to be handling both the grill and hotpot and our toddler. When we come back next time, we will only do either grill or hotpot as we don't really eat that much. I filled myself up from the hot food station.

The restaurant is pretty big and they have some big tables but all the tables had only one pot hot pot which makes it hard for people to eat. I wish they had multiple pots for bigger tables so that it was inconvenient. Other than that, their service was pretty good and they also had a really good AYCE deal for $39/pp! We got their two flavour soup base - spicy beef and tomato soup base. Their meats and veggies were all fresh! They had a massive self-serve bar with sauces, tofu, fried chicken (which was delicious), noodles, bean curd, and other items. It was a good selection! You also get dessert in the AYCE menu with two options - vanilla ice cream and coffee pudding. I got their coffee pudding which was not bad, but it tasted AMAZING when mixed with the vanilla ice cream so I would definitely recommend that.

This was hands down the worst dining experience I've ever had. Not only is the food overpriced, but…read morethe service is aggressively hostile. The highlight of the night was a staff member slamming meat onto our table and condescendingly saying, "Wanna bet you ordered this?" I calmly told her with a smile that we didn't, as we are all allergic to chicken. Instead of an apology, she stomped away and slammed the receipt in my face. After reviewing it and realizing she was wrong, she simply blamed her coworker and didn't offer a single word of apology for her behavior. Beyond the attitude, the food quality is a bait-and-switch. The first batch of meat was okay, but every round after that was inedible, greasy fat. They take forever to serve you because they are too busy fighting with customers. Save your money and your sanity--stay away from this place.

This…read morelocation is smaller, but because it's located in downtown Vancouver, the side of the restaurant is pretty big in comparison. The place isn't too busy at late night, but with steady business. Everything is pretty Big Way standard, with the same selection of food and sauce bar. The quality of meat however isn't the best. The beef roll is way too fat with barely any lean meat on it. The sauce bar is also a little dirty compare to the Richmond location. But it was cleaned shortly after. The soup bases are the same, with the same level of spiciness. All the ingredients are cooked properly, which is pretty nice. The food came pretty fast, and the service is standard. It was a little hard to find the waitress when we needed a folk for our child, but since the place isn't big, we just grabbed it ourselves. I feel if I were to live downtown, I would want to come here all the time, based on the convenience of the location. I will visit again when I'm around the neighborhood.

Once you are done filling your pot with all the things you want, you get to choose the broth you want. They also have a dry mix option which is basically the spicies without the broth. I got their signature ma lang tang broth which comes with szechuan chilli oil. I loved it! If you are not too hungry though, I would recommend going for their spicy szechuan dry mix! My friend got it and we all loved it! It had lots of spiced and was cooked to perfection. We also got their taro milk tea which was pretty good! At the end they treat you to complimentary vanilla ice cream, I'm usually not a fan of vanilla ice cream but it is so satisfying to have it after a good hot meal. I'm sure I'll be back here after summer is over.

Maybe it's an American thing to linger and enjoy a dining experience. To stay longer than needed to…read moresoak up the ambiance and give a good moment some extra time for memories. But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.
