This is the first time i've ever been to happy lamb. I rarely eat at all you can eat hot pot places in general. -came on a weekday early afternoon with my friends. -happy lamb had a $19.99 happy hour all you can eat lunch special so we decided to try it out. -We selected the mushroom broth for our hot pot broth. Not a big fan of it. Tastes pretty plain in my opinion. Not bland by any means but it was just ok in terms of taste. -The meat was fine. It wasn't fatty. It tasted like any sliced hot pot meat you can get anywhere. There were lamb, beef, pork, and luncheon meat slices available for this menu. There was a small selection of seafood available as well. I didn't really like the cod paste siu mai. The texture was rubbery and the flavor wasn't that great. The fish tofu, fish roll, and fish balls were fine. They tasted like any other fish balls you can get anywhere. There was also a small selection of vegetables available. The Napa cabbage leaves and winter melon slices were fresh and big. No complaints on the vegetables. The sauce station was vast and everything you could possibly want was there. There were no lines and the station was clean. Some places like Big Way Hot Pot provide simple sauce recipes for beginners, but there were no suggestions here. It would be nice if they added some suggestions because i'm a newbie when it comes to sauce combinations. A very small selection of hot small plate appetizers were available too. They served as appetizers for the hot pot or something more solid in case you want a break from just eating hot pot foods. I wish there was a bigger selection though. For the appetizer buffet area, there were lamb bones with meat in some type of brown and red sauce, the classic vegetable spring rolls with sweet chili sauce, and deep fried mantou, which is basically a kind of crispy fried dough bread with condensed milk. They had a few cold vegetable appetizers like chinese Kelp salad which was slightly spicy, and wood ear mushrooms which were slightly sour. I didn't like either of them. Also, i noticed from past yelp reviews that customers were offered free ice cream. We were not offered any. I guess they discontinued that bonus. As for the service, I don't really have any problems with the service here. The staff were pretty good at refilling the water jug with sliced lemon even though it wasn't really empty. We didn't have to wait long at all for our hot pot ingredients. It all arrived within 10-15 minutes. One little hiccup was that we ordered udon but the staff gave us thin ramen noodles by mistake. Our server changed it to the correct udon noodles after we pointed it out. As for the place itself, it was pretty empty with a couple of solo eaters and a couple tables with families. The dining area was clean and roomy. We were seated at a booth by the window but the blinds were closed since the sunlight was too bright. Washrooms were tucked away far in the corner so it was a bit of a walk but they were clean, not too small, and empty. Overall i would give the food 3 out of 5 because nothing stood out to me. The food was just average all around. The service was fine, but the price was great at $20. In fact, I think $20 per person is by far the cheapest, best value all you can eat hot pot deal in the Vancouver area. So i'll give Happy Lamb Burnaby 4 out of 5 yelp stars overall because its a good value. This is the best bang-for-your-buck AYCE hot pot deal as long as you're okay with their average food quality. read more

Yikes! We came early evening (~4pm) and it wasn't very crowded. The food isn't terrible, the broth is actually pretty good. We got half spicy, half original. Spicy was traditional Chinese spicy (so pretty spicy) but both are flavorful. The lamb and beef meats were good. The inside was nice and clean. They had a small buffet style section where you could grab toppings and certain side items. I guess they only put certain items out at a time and don't refill it when they run out. We ordered the Chinese Donut, as we got the last 2 in the buffet style area, but the guy came back and said they are all out. So it seems like they don't make more after a certain point. Parking seems a bit bad. We are not familiar with the area and planned to go to the nearby mall afterwards, so we ended up paying for parking at the mall across the street. From the looks of it, they only really have street parking available. We paid in advanced for the happy hour price before happy hour ended. That all being said, the service was subpar. It was okay at first, but then we ordered more meat and fast forward 20 minutes, it still had not come out. It the took a minute to find a flag down a worker, but we asked once again. It felt like only had 1 (maybe 2) actual server on the floor. We waited like 5 more minutes before ultimately just leaving. Came for AYCE hot pot at 8:15pm but learned that late night AYCE starts at 8:30pm onwards that is 20% so waited an extra 15 minutes for the deal. Pro tip: There is free underground parking at the restaurant. After 6pm, you can park at CIBC parking stalls underground. The Deluxe AYCE is only $3 more per person so with the 20% late night deal my boyfriend and I decided to try it out. What we found is much higher beef quality and lamb that rivals what higher tier hot pot spots like DolarShop provide. My boyfriend loves the snack bar and we discovered there are two separate snack bars in the restaurant that has different food - one has desserts, spring rolls, chicken wings, and deep fried buns. The other has cold appetizers, noodles, curry fish balls, and lamb shanks. The original house soup base is really tasty and the service here is quick and pretty friendly. The only downside is that the restaurant is not well vented so be prepared to smell like hot pot from head to toe. Regular deluxe AYCE is $34.99 per adult for dinner and end of the meal includes complimentary ice cream. They also have some unlimited drink refills that are pretty reasonable prices for around $3.99/person. It's been years since I've been here so it was nice to be back! Got the half and half soup pot to try both broths. I wouldn't say the spicy broth was too spicy but there was some heat. I liked that there was a good variety of veggies and meat to choose from for the ayce menu and that there was an option to upgrade if you wanted more premium options! Super busy place. My cousin brought me here while visiting. They seem to be very popular and busy but service is really slow. I don't think they can keep up w/the demand. You order off the sheet of paper and some items had quantity listed but others didn't so I wasn't sure how to order. So we randomly ordered item. We got the 1/2 pot which was nice since we had a variety. The side dishes that were suppose to be available for self service was empty majority of the time. Only the rice & noodles were there all the time. They didn't seem to refill it very often. They were just ok anyways. Came by for lunch when it opened on a weekday over the Christmas holidays in a group of two with a fellow Elite. So we did not have to wait for seating...which is great as this place can get quite busy. The sauce making station was pretty standard and I enjoyed making my own dipping sauces. We had the AYCE lunch special for $21.99 (+ broth). We opted for the chicken broth which was nice...not over salted or spicy. Sampled all the proteins and much of the vegetables and leafy greens. I am far from an expert on the cuts of the protein at hot pots but I did like the beef (done two ways) and the lamb. The service was pretty good and they were quite attentive. Kinda slow service but they only have a few peeps working. Wasn't told you have to pay for soup!! They sprang it on us after we ate. It like $6 per soup was told it's $33 per person for buffet but never told us there is a charge for soup. Also, the self serve table only has a couple of items to self pick. So my friend brought me to a super random hotpot place right by metrotown and i have to say it wasnt that bad. Though i wish i had taken more pics but this will do. This place does have diff tier pricing also discounted during happy hour or if you come on a weekday. The soup is included in the price, they have an unlimited open sauce bar that has a ton of options, a hot food appetizer bar that comes with whichever tier you choose. The thing that i love about this place is the shrimp/beef balls are made fresh, they aren't the artificial ones that are sold in bulk or coming out of a huge bag or anything. The cuts of meat had a wide variety, i was pigging out on lamb and pork belly. They are sliced thinly, there's some marinated options too. Guess what!!! If you love deep fried mochi filled with brown sugar or deep fried chinese style chicken wings along with deep fried buns and condensed milk well you are in luck because it's all part of the AYCE !! We got seated after 10 mins without a reservation, they do take resos though!! Plenty of free parking in the parking downstairs. Service is consistent, staff speak good english. I do have to say the elevator on the way up to the restaurant is a bit sketch and funny smelling. You can always take the stairs though! The place is super packed and popular so if you're not someone who likes crowds, this place might not be for you. We went to Happy Lamb in Burnaby, early in the day before it was even open so that we could be sure to get a table for ourselves. This place does AYCE hot pot. We were stuffed beyond belief! Many of the newer hot pot restaurants offer individual hot pots but this one is a more traditional style where there is one shared pot for everyone to do their cooking in. Thankfully, this pot had a divider so I was able to have a Vegetarian broth on one side while my husband could have his meat broth on the other side. Our daughter would just switch every now and then between eating from one side or the other. Service was extremely slow this day. There's a time limit on the table but we weren't even served any food for the longest time which was a bit annoying. It's one thing to be slow with bringing out food when the kitchen is cooking food for customers. This was hot pot though. We were the ones who would be doing the cooking; they were taking ages just to bring out any food for us to cook. Hoping this was just an isolated incident. So I finally had a chance to try this place after the IP overlords from China (literally) forced these guys to change their name. I don't say this too often, but I think the Happy Lamb experience is actually superior to the old Chubby Lamb. Parking is still available in the lot underneath the building. The meat is nice and fresh, and now they serve it pizza style on round plates. They don't mess around with the portions. My friends and I destroyed ourselves with great prejudice. Beer is a bit overpriced (think western style pubs) but can't complain. Goes well with hot pot. This is one of the better deals in town for AYCE hot pot. FYI the Broadway and Kingsway locations are AYCE but the Richmond (Lansdowne) one isn't. Something to keep in mind. read more

I went here with a friend back in Jan 5th for lunch. We couldn't go to Dolar Shop after having trouble finding a table. The restaurant was quite slow around 2PM because most people prefer dining at Dolar Shop I assume. We had a great variety of toppings of veggies, meat and some seafood. Server forgot to bring us some pork blood, but remembered to bring them after asking her. Food was pretty good. Hot pot is pretty good for cold winter days anyway. We weren't aware of 25% discount after receiving the bill. I was afraid we get charged around $40, but felt pleased after receiving the discount. Our server Jusco was very helpful. Update: I decided to lower the review to 1 star after talking with my friends. They told me that the waiter straight up told them in Chinese that "there's another booking for 8 people after you so you don't need to order, I can select and bring the meats to you", despite us just sat down for less than 10 minutes and was still figuring out what to order. Unfortunately due to this incident many of my friends feel disrespected and unwelcome. There were also flies flying around my table which can be considered a potential food hygiene problem, and my friend also found a piece of plastic stuck on the vegetable they served us. I won't call out the name of the waiter out of respect for privacy and confidentiality, but we definitely won't come back to the store, despite having been a regular for a while. Keep going like this and they may be reported to VCH. The food is ok, but the service has gotten argueably worse. We just barely sat down in our table and there was this middle aged waiter who was very insisting that he will bring us some meat dishes first despite us are still picking our choices (essentially he insisted that he would pick the items for us, despite this is a AYCE where guests are the ones who get to choose). The situation made us feel like the restaurant is trying to kick us out despite us just barely got to our seats. My friends and I got a variety of food items including beef, tofu, udon and regular noodles, shrimp and pork dumplings, squid, and chicken. And all of the portions were really filling and tasty! We could choose 2 soups and we got a tomato one and one that was spicy. (I love spice so I liked that one the most!) The mini hot pots are available for vegetarians and meat eaters. In addition to the mini hot pots, the house broth and prune juice are included in the price. The broth was tasty & they topped up the broth. There are also appetizers, skewers, soy bean milk, & buns/pies to order separately. The foods' freshness was average. Service: 2/5 - we waited an hour for our food to come & when we inquired, no explanation was given. The place wasn't hopping busy. We were ready to walk out. My daughter LOVES hot pot. Ever since she was able to cook things for herself, she's be it's biggest fan. She's not alone. I love it too. Happy Lamb offers an AYCE menu that covers pretty much all you can think of when it comes to things to dip into a fantastic broth. In fact, they even have a menu for different broths; all which are fantastic in the own way. Any good hot pot place should have a good sauce station and Happy Lamb has got you covered. Time limit is 2 hrs and at the end, they have special desert which is not on the menu. Yesterday was popsicle. One thing I noticed from yesterday, we should only order the good stuff, such as meat, leave others behind. This is a massive Little Sheep location and the first I've seen with a nice outdoor seating area! And surprisingly, the first I've seen with actual little sheep images around the location. I've been to two Little Sheeps before and this wasn't the case. Anyway, I had a great dinner here on a Saturday night (and happy we made a 7pm reservation for 7 people since it was totally packed with a wait outside). It came to $35/person after tax and tip for each of us. The service was pretty friendly and efficient, and most importantly the food was gooood. We had all your standard hot pot goods: meats, seafood, tofu, and veggies. There's a standard bar where you create your own dipping sauces. On top of the bar were rice chips and cold sesame sesame noodles for the taking, which was also a new sight for me. I had a taste, but thought better not to fill up before the main event. This Little Sheep provided the perfect setting for my cousins and I to catch up with laughs and childhood stories. I highly recommend this location! We got real thirsty by the end of it all.
