One was the fatty beef with pork bone brother and the other one was the Chicken thigh with pork bone broth. The bone broth was average. Regarding the meat, fatty beef looks average. however, the chicken thigh still had ice when the meat was brought out resulting with a lot of water on the plate soaking the meat. upon entering, the first thing we noticed was the strong smell of gas. it lingered in the air, sharp and a little unsettling. the restaurant also felt unusually cold, with little ventilation, which made the first few minutes uncomfortable. once the boiling cauldrons started, though, the room slowly warmed up and the chill faded, though a few in our group mentioned mild headaches early on. the space itself was bright and lively, filled with neon light and movement. reflections bounced off the tables and walls, giving the room an almost electric energy. servers moved constantly, weaving between tables, and the place filled up quickly with conversation and steam. menus were large, simple to read, and easy to follow. dinner included a drink, milk tea, yakult tea, or green tea and a dessert choice, either a fudgesicle or a revello style ice cream bar. the sauce station wasn't as extensive, but did have fresh minced garlic, sesame oil, soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, cilantro, green onions, sesame paste, rows of fresh ingredients and condiments let diners mix their own combinations. the sauces were flavourful, versatile, and worked beautifully for dipping or for stirring into the soup. each broth came with a generous set of ingredients: chicken ball, fish tofu, fish ball, corn, enoki mushroom, fried bean curd skin, lotus root slice, tomato, napa cabbage, quail egg, and a prawn. the bowls provided were small, so we learned to transfer ingredients from the large serving bowl into the pot, and later use that larger bowl for the soup itself. parking was free but limited, tucked under cover next to cm chicken in the newmark building. overall, despite the initial gas smell and cold temperature, i enjoyed the meal and the interactive experience. once the pots started bubbling and the table filled with colour and steam, it became warm, lively, and satisfying, the kind of place where flavour makes up for the flaws. read more

There wasn't much service after ordering - but when placing the order the server is very friendly and can help guide you through the ordering process - as it's combo set style hot pot - Broth is pretty tasty - and meat is pretty fresh - portion is not bad for the price - however I am a bigger eater , so I am left a little hungry still afterwards - so you might consider adding some additional protein to your meal - The hot pot scene is getting pretty competitive in the Metrotown area - this one is pretty average - but definitely is a safe bet - if you don't want to go by weight or AYCE style. read more

I'm definitely adding Pot Empire to my list of go-to late-night dining spots. I recommend heading there around 8 pm to take advantage of the discounts on meats. Their portions are really generous, so I opted for the free pork bone chicken soup pot with pork neck (it was absolutely delicious). This just might be my new favourite hot pot restaurant. I loved the combination of foods that came in my Vegetarian set, and was very impressed with the flavor of the broth once I had finished cooking and eating everything on my tray. I've experienced very salty broth at other hot pot restaurants, especially if they refill my pot with more broth instead of plain hot water. Here, they refilled with broth but the soup was still good to drink at the end of evening, and not overly salty. Plus, the meal came with a drink as well as an ice cream cone, and I do love my ice cream! We've been to other hot pot restaurants that are AYCE but I think I prefer having a set meal. It gives me a wide variety of foods, and at the same time it forces me to stop eating whereas with the AYCE hot pots, I have a tendency to overeat and then I just end up feeling ridiculously full to the point where I can't think of anything but my fullness! I love soupy meals! This individual-style hot pot is perfect for eating out with people who want different ingredients in their pot. The first time I got the 8oz AAA Prime Rib with the original pork bone chicken soup. There was definitely too much meat for me so I ended up giving most of it away. The second time I got the 5oz fatty beef and that was the perfect amount. I also ordered the vegetarian mushroom soup instead and absolutely loved the flavour. Got a the Hot Special Pork Bone Chicken Soup Pot + Blade eye slice combo (5oz) + hande-made noodle + milk tea + ice cream all for just $19! They have great portions here, vibrant interior with all of the neon signs, and it was very spacious! I thought the blade eye slices was fresh and the chicken soup was nice and hearty! I was really excited for the noodles since it said hand made noodle on the menu, but I thought the noodles were pretty average and just tasted like udon. I also found the plating situation a little awkward - they placed the individual pots in the middle, and served the meat/veggies/noodles on a big tray right in front of me. Not sure how to optimize it but I found it a little difficult to access the hotpot stove while having the big tray in front. We usually never return to places but this has become a goto place for us to return to! It's an in between big way hot pot and dolar shop. A much more affordable option than dolar shop but still comes with a free drink and ice cream! The Yakult green tea that it comes with is so good and we love how full we feel everytime we leave this place. I quite like this place and feel it's a great alternative to Gokudo and the like. The pricing is good. They even give you a small bowl of free edamame for a snack. There's a self serve sauce bar for no additional charge! However, my main complaint is that everything feels a little sticky and when we sat down, the chairs and seats feel like it could be cleaner. We went early on a weeknight so we didn't need to wait for a table. I heard the line up on weekends is pretty long. They serve individual size hotpot meal. Comparing the price and the food offer, I find Pot Empire offers the best deal compared to Gokudo and Pearl Hot Pot. For $18, you get their chicken and pork bone broth that's already filled with a bunch of food like fish ball, veggies, etc., a plate of meat, small appetizer, a plate of veggie plate, a bowl of rice or noodle, a drink and ice cream! I thought the 5 oz only comes with 6 pieces of meat so I ordered the 8 oz one but I was wrong! There was so much food. There is a sauce bar that you can mix your own sauce as well. The staff comes around often to refill our broth. The only down part is that we felt we were being rushed out. Our empty plates were taken away so fast and when you were almost done they asked if they can turn off the fire to your pot. I think we were in and out in an hour. Came in on a cold Saturday afternoon had to wait around 10 mins for a table for 4, not too bad! I love the variety of soup options. They even offer one basic soup for free which was great. I got the free pork bone soup with a 5oz fatty short plate, sadly the meat actually had some bones in it. Every combo included veggies, pork ball, tofu, shrimp, bean curd and fish tofu. This place was a disappointment. My sliced lamb was almost grey and has no texture. The fish slices were tiny. Their menu is almost a direct rip off of Gokudo Shabu Shabu but it tastes worse. I heard down the grapevine that one of the people who started this restaurant worked "undercover" at Gokudo for a few months as a dishwasher and then left and soon after, this place opened. The ordering is very similar to Gokudo Shabu Shabu where each set comes with your choice of soup, meat, noodles, veg bowl, and drink. The set in this pic is the Fatty Short Plate with the sukiyaki soup (+$7 which made the entire set $31). I opted for the free soup (Pork Bone Chicken Soup - third pic). Interesting take but the veg bowl that comes with the sukiyaki soup choice is almost double the size of the veg bowl in for the pork bone chicken soup. The pork bone soup was also quite bland, though it was a pleasant surprise having so many additives in the soup (such as lotus root, pork balls, fish balls etc). Overall, quite trendy with the neon lights, pop music, and presentation, but I will likely hold off on visiting again. This is for the reason that I arrived at 3PM on a weekend and was declined service (even though it was during opening hours and there were several open tables). We weren't given a reason, just that we couldn't be seated. So we asked when the next available seating was and was told it was at 5PM. When we tried to leave our name for the 5PM seating, we were told we couldn't. Coming back the second time around (on 1PM on a different day), we were seated (when it was even busier than the first time around). Service was very slow and inattentive. The menu, at first glance, seems complex, however, luckily having been to Gokudo shabu shabu, I understood the how ordering worked. An explanation would have been nice, or at least an offer of how to order (like they do at Gokudo). We were seated for about 25min before our soup came, and waited another 15min or so before our raw ingredients came (this was after we asked where our food was since we had already received our soup). My burner ran out of butane a couple minutes in and it took a while to try to wave down a server-I eventually got up to go to the back to ask for a new butane tank. Food wise-the pork bone soup was very bland and the veggies were not all that fresh. Even the garlic at the sauce bar did not look fresh. Overall, there are several other hotpot spots in this area.
