Was visiting Vancouver and craving malatang, so we checked out Big Way Hot Pot since it had great reviews! We went on a Friday night and waited about 20 minutes & it was packed. There were tons of ingredients to pick from and no minimum weight required, which I appreciated. They also had a wide range of soup bases; I got the spicy dry mix and it was super tasty. One thing that felt a bit off was the seating system. Even after we made our bowls and paid, all the tables were still full, so we had to wait another 15-20 minutes before sitting down. It would've made more sense if they assigned a table when calling us in, just to avoid the awkward wait with ready food. That said, the staff were really kind and helpful, and the food hit the spot. Plus, they offer free ice cream at the end. Would definitely go back when I'm in town again!

Big Way always hits! And their vegan options are abundant. My main qualm is the layout of the sauce station and how inefficient it is for people to move through. But food is always amazing! And kind staff.

Always good when you feel like eating hot pot, but don't want to spend 1-2 hours cooking for yourself. It's a staple now in my rotation of restaurants to dine-in, provided that we go at non-peak times and/or go super late at night after the dinner rush. Protip: put your name down 30-45 mins before you want to eat to avoid waiting 2-3 hours for a table!! It's always super busy inside but service is honestly pretty good. Tables are quite close to each other but nothing too bad. Food quality is always consistent - haven't had run-ins with stale/food that's gone bad. My personal picks are the pumpkin/potato noodles (that they don't have at other hotpot places), duck breast, and 1-2 of their giant octopus balls. Beef, veg, and everything else is quite standard. One thing to complain about though - I think they need to figure out their waiting system. They allow you to get your food, but then you're left standing around waiting for a table for a good 10-15 minutes sometimes because they're not ready for you.

Really fun hot pot experience! Busy busy spot so go early before the rush. Build your own pot and pricing is based on weight (before soup) so be strategic with your choices! Highly recommend the creamy lobster balls. Don't forget your sauce mix. While the place can be chaotic it really feels so lively and exciting -- recommend for everyone to explore and go more than once.

I have had hot pot plenty of times but the concept that this restaurant has is so cool. You walk in, and everything is on your left that you can pick and choose what you like. Then you head up to the cashier, weigh your pot, choose your sauce, add drinks, then find a place to sit at. My brother and I went during lunch time which was super busy but we were able to find a spot right after we paid. I believe during lunch, you can get a drink along with your hotpot and a soft serve which the servers will get for you. I definitely will be back to visit Big Way Hot Pot, loved everything about it.

DIY hotpot that never misses. I tried the new Buldak kimchi flavour and while it wasn't spicy enough for me, I added a lot extra from their complimentary sauce bar. Best of all is the free black sesame ice cream at the end

Super fun concept! Awesome choices from variety in meats, mushrooms, veggies, noodles and dumplings. Do be cautious though, the price by weight will creep up on you! Complimentary cold tea or your choice is a nice touch for lunch. Sauce bar had a standard and good variety but not the most exciting I've seen. Although tables are somewhat tight together, there are some nice booths and larger tables for groups. Hostess and cashier were super helpful and friendly!

Sooo delicious! On a Tuesday afternoon, there was no wait and plenty of tables available. Big Way is one of my fav places and this location just happens to be my favorite of them all! The service was great and the staff members even brought around some smoothie samples for us to try. Makes for the perfect, affordable lunch depending on how much you're eating. Already looking forward to coming back!

First time in Richmond and we had to try hotpot! Luckily, we were able to join the waitlist ahead of time because around dinner time, it was over an hour long. It was a cafeteria style where you can grab the meat and veggies yourself and then you weigh the bowl at checkout. The ambiance was crowded! But the staff were very helpful and attentive to getting us seated and bring us our bowls. The beef belly and the enoki mushrooms were my fave. When you are finished, they give you complimentary green tea ice cream! So freakin good and it really hits after eating a savory meal.

Big Way Hot Pot is an amazing choice for groups looking to enjoy a fun dining experience together. The spacious layout easily accommodates lots of people, making it perfect for gatherings. Since we came in during dinner time it was bustling and quite loud yet the staff was really nice and accommodating to our needs. I've always wanted to try big way hot pot and it did not disappoint! What sets this place apart is the pricing by weight, which allows you to choose just the right amount of ingredients without overspending. The broth options are rich and flavorful and I really like the one I went with which was tomato! Since I went with a big group I also got to try their broth as well and tom yum really stood out. With tons of options to customize your meal, from meats, seafoods to a variety of vegetables, and even a big sauce bar for you to curate your dipping to your liking, there's something for everyone. Overall, Big Way Hot Pot offers a fun, interactive dining experience and I would love to come back again :) highly recommended! Note: remember to ask for the matcha soft serve at the end of your meal, it's free!

I always love coming here because you can pick what you like and they have different varieties of broth you can pick from. Also extra bonus points they serve boba and other delicious drinks you can choose from. Don't shy away from the limited series drinks because those are usually the best sometimes! The sauce bar is also an awesome add to this restaurant. The service is always good. I never had a bad experience with the staff and they're usually very quick. I told them some of my concerns when I got placed at a table that I didn't like, and they very nicely changed my group to a different place. This place gets packed very easily so make sure you put a reservation online so you don't have to wait around. If you are super hungry, you're not going to get a table right away on the weekends... My group of 5 made the mistake of showing up and we had to wait 40 minutes, but honestly it wasn't a problem since we just waited in our car. The inside is quite small, but they do well with the space. Parking is easy. The only complaint I have is the bathrooms smell really bad... Like it's comparable to a gas station bathroom. I would suggest deep cleaning the bathroom, with bleach... My friend who's a nurse said it smells like when old pee hasn't been cleaned properly... It actually makes me gag when I step foot in there. Otherwise, the food is great!

Hard place to visit if you have a large party (6 or more). Not only is it hard to physically fit a larger party, but they need to turn the table over quickly, so there's not much time to converse or chat in this place. Their online reservation portal will help you see how busy the lineup is. You choose all your ingredients for your hot pot and you pay by weight. You choose your broth and spice level, and they cook your pot and bring it to your seat. Smarter customers choose lighter weighing items but still flavorful, items like beef balls weight the most and are dense. Each customer gets a free soft serve ice cream for dessert.

Huge location! I've been to many Big Ways many time now, but this is my favorite. Went during happy hour time, so received a free drink as well as the ice cream. The flavors are always interesting, and there are a lot of topping options. You could craft a really good bowl for a decent price if you know what you're doing -- it's part of the fun for me anyways.

I liked their AYCE menu and had been wanting to come back, only to find out when we sat down that…read moreAYCE was no longer available. Huge bummer. We arrived around 9 PM and stood at the entrance for 3-5 minutes while multiple staff walked past us without any acknowledgment. Most tables were empty, so it wasn't clear whether we were supposed to seat ourselves. I eventually had to stop someone, who then brushed us off and grabbed someone else instead. After sitting down, I asked about AYCE and was told it was discontinued in October 2025. The waiter mentioned happy hour and said we could get an extra discount with a student ID, but when we showed our U.S. student IDs, they wouldn't accept them. Lame, but whatever. The price is acceptable during happy hour. The seats are uncomfortable, and the kitchen was very loud that night. The floor vibrated on and off throughout our meal. The biggest issue: bugs. They clearly know it's a problem since there's a small fan over the sauce station to keep the bugs away, but it didn't help. We found a dead bug in the sauce we made before dipping our food. There were also bugs flying over our food the entire time (see photos). That alone is unacceptable. Food came out almost instantly after ordering on our phones. Impressively fast. Everything tasted good, but I wouldn't order the spicy broth again. I know that's the style, but even at one-star spice it was extremely oily and overpowering for me. Another ongoing annoyance was staff constantly messing with our stove. On both visits, we ordered multiple broths. The spicy broth boiled aggressively because of all the oil, while the non-spicy broth barely simmered. We didn't like the spicy broth at all and just wanted the non-spicy one hot enough to actually cook food. Every time I turned up the heat, staff immediately turned it back down because the spicy broth was boiling. As a result, the non-spicy broth never properly boiled the entire meal, and our food was likely undercooked. Extremely frustrating. Last time we came, we got complimentary ice cream at the end. This time, we didn't. I assumed they stopped offering it, but based on other recent reviews, they just didn't give us one. I'm not coming back until AYCE is back and the bug problem is actually fixed.

This was a very spacious hot pot restaurant, though I would recommend having a reservation. You scan a QR code and order from your phone (there is free wifi). The food was good, just another solid hot pot place. The broth was really spicy so beware! We ended the meal with complimentary black sesame ice cream which was a fun bonus!

It was our first time trying Chengdu hotpot 成都火鍋( (aka Sichuan hotpot 四川火鍋), and we did some homework beforehand. Chengdu hotpot stands out for its aromatic, complex flavours and less oily broth than the Chongqing style. Yuan's Hot Pot 袁记串串香 nailed it! We went with 1/2 soup base and 1/2 extra spicy. And the extra spicy is definitely spicy...no need to add any dipping sauces with that base. Ordered a variety of proteins and vegetables. I liked that most of the items were on skewers which made getting it out of the base much easier. I did find the beef overly salted. And I really enjoyed the corn on the cob. Service was great and definitely needed a shower and a change of clothes after dinner. They were having a buy one get one free anniversary promotion.
