First time at Big Way after witnessing all the hype and line ups. Came here around 8:40pm on a Sunday night with two other friends and there was no wait to get in or to get a table. My friends gave me some great tips on the "heavy" items to avoid getting so I mainly loaded up on frozen meats, spinach, and vermicelli. I splurged and got some tripe, a beef ball, a fish tofu ball, and piece of fish too. I got the collagen bone broth and my total came out to around $15. It's nice that there is a small sauce bar included, along with kim chi. I made my own sauce but my friend's also recommended adding more raw garlic, cilantro and green onions when my food arrived. Broth was really nice and the $15 bowl filled me up. Good quality food for a very reasonable price. Service was also good with water pitcher refills and asking if we were ready for ice cream. While the ice cream is no DolarShop, it was still decent that it was included. I see why Big Way is so popular. I would avoid when it's busy and one has to stand and wait to get a table but otherwise, solid choice to dine solo or in a small group. Big Way is love. Big Way is life. I joined the hype way too late and I wish I joined earlier. I first tried this place late last year and since then, I've frequented this place more than 2 times a month. This place is CONSTANTLY busy and that says a lot about how great it is. Disclaimer, you're not going to get gourmet, fresh, high quality foods so if that is what you're looking for check out Dolar Shop instead. This restaurant is excellent for small or big groups with a variety of food preferences. I love that I can bring my vegan best friend here (she is okay with food that has contacted non-vegan food!!), my extremely health conscious don't-like-eating-out mom, my carnivorous bf, or just my spice loving friends. Whatever your preferences are, there is something for you! The DIY ingredient picking style allows diners to pick what they want, how much they want, and work within their budget (although it's VERY easy to go over LOL). Since there is so much variety and my pot pretty much differs every visit, I will provide my experience on how I maximize my pot (and keep it under $25 each time) and the soup bases I've enjoyed so far. If this interests you.... I lay low on the frozen balls and pretty much frozen anything as those weigh A LOT. The first time I went, I picked too many frozen items and my pot was almost $40 ;u;. I do love the lobster salty egg filled ones though so I usually grab a few of those if I'm craving. I pick more meats and the sliced fish is delicious! For vegetables, I love mushrooms and I usually eyeball down and pick the less stalkier of the veggies. For example, I avoid corn lol (even though I love corn). I also don't pick any cilantro there is plenty of cilantro and green onion at the complimentary sauce bar. Vermicelli is my prime noodle choice but sometimes if I'm craving something else, I just pick it (spoil yourself sometimes right). OR if you are like my bf who "does not pay for vegetables", his pot is always straight protein (just meat and seafood) and it's always $25 or below and is quite filling for him. Soup base is actually quite important in setting the tone of your hotpot experience. I am a creature of habit so once I try something I like I tend to stick to it. - Bone Collagen Broth: If you want something light, healthy-feeling, but still flavourful - I actually love this broth and it is not too salty!! I get this one the most lately as I'm trying to keep a lighter palate. - Tomato Broth: This one is more savoury and stronger than the bone broth but still light enough that it doesn't make me feel too gross after. Not the most popular choice but I like tomato so I choose this one occasionally.) - Tomato Dry Spice Mix: This one is real good!! Lots of flavour and if you choose so, spice! I never thought dry mix hotpot could be so amazing but I can't get this all the time because the next day I don't feel fantastic (but sometimes it's high key worth it). If you don't like tomato try the Szechuan dry mix, lots of my friends like that one! Last but not least, I always love the free ice cream after to satisfy my savoury + sweet palate. When they serve your hot pot it's nicely presented on a cool wooden chop board. I've been to Big Way Hot Pot a handful of times now, and while I keep coming back for the food and price, there's definitely a part of me that wonders if it's worth the hassle. The wait times are no joke--my last visit I had to wait 2.5 hours for a table for two! Such a great place for a small or big group for a quick hot pot meal! When you go in you grab a pot and tongs and self serve the in ingredients you like in your hotpot. The order is by weight where they weight it in the end at the cashier before they cook it for you. There is quite a large variety of ingredients to choose from but some of the more popular ingredients have a tendency to be empty - they could be refilled more frequently. As the line up was really long we didn't wait for the refill and chose other things instead. The broth and drink selection are really great as well which you choose at the cashier. Aside from broth you can also choose dry option too for those who prefer something less soupy.
