Looks like this location has finally jumped on the AYCE bandwagon, joining the other locations. With that said, the AYCE here is different. Parking is available in the Lansdowne lot. The interior has more of a traditional look, with booths surrounded by wooden posts. Staff are friendly and quick. As of the time of writing, there is an AYCE special (7 days, all day) that consists only of beef and lamb slices. The tradeoff is that the price is lower than the other locations. Sauces and soup bases are extra. Orders are done via tablet. One thing that is neat is that they have soup pots here that can carry 3 different broths instead of just 1 or 2. Special mention. The Richmond location of Happy Lamb chain of hotpot restaurants. Used to be called Little Sheep. It's located next the the east entrance of Lansdowne Mall. Mid size restaurant, nice decor. They have a variety of tables, some with a stove for each person, and other tables with one or more larger stoves for people to share. We had a reservation on a weekend, and waited a few minutes for our table. Restaurant was mostly full, but there wasn't a line of people waiting. There are sauce bars at both the front and the back of the restaurant. The back sauce bar also had two dessert tray and a fruit tray with two types of fruit. In terms of appetizers/snacks at the sauce bar, they had edamame and black cloud fungi, so pretty limited selection there. Unlike some other Happy Lamb locations, this one doesn't have an all-you-can-eat option, so it's a la cart. Didn't look into the menu in depth but most of the items you'd expect are there. Particularly they have a good number of lamb and beef cuts. We tried the "lamb brain meat" which is thick sliced lamb served on a board that supposedly comes from near the brain. Tasted pretty good. We got the non-spicy broth which was good, although you would need to add some water to drink it since the broth is salty. No complaints on the lamb, beef, seafood and shrimp paste we ordered. We also ordered their fried dough. For $9, it's pretty expensive for a fried dough, but that thing is gigantic, has a super crispy skin, and will fill up your stomach if the hotpot didn't quite do the job. Our bill was $135 for 3 people. Overall tasted good, comparable to something like Haidilao. Probably a little cheaper than HDL, in exchange for less service, although Happy Lamb also has a robot for carrying trays. We were definitely full, especially thanks to the fried dough. They give a 10% discount for cash payment, so make sure you have some cash on hand. We didn't wait for too long but were told that the next available table was for the individual hotpot section and not the shared section (what is the point of making reservations if this is by next available table). Tip: when you make reservations specify what kind of table you want or they will force you to go to the single hotpot tables (higher price as you need to order individual hot pots but shorter wait time) On to the food. We ordered the hot soup, tomato soup and clear broth. All were not bad. The hot soup isn't very hot so if you want it hotter don't order medium spice. The tomato soup had strong and sour tomato flavours. The lamb skewers were pretty delicious and we can see why they are a popular item. Very tender and well seasoned. Would recommend ordering medium spicy (not too spicy). Don't get the australian lamb and beef plate. For the meats, I would recommend getting the yipin fat cow. It gives you the most bang for your buck. The flavour is better than the beef short rib. We also got the shrimp paste and the ball platter. Both worth getting as they taste like freshly made balls. We ordered a ton of meat and veggies to share. Everything was very fresh and presentation was good. Your orders are served by a cute little robot that comes right up to your table. The restaurant is spacious & clean and have plexiglass dividers. A Robot delivers food to your table. There are two bars to make your own dipping sauces. The bigger bar by the kitchen also have appetizers like pickled fungus and edamames and desserts. Wished more people were more aware of using the gloves at the sauce bar. A better signage should be in place. All orders were made on a computer pad at the table. It was easy to navigate. We ordered a split broth of spice and non spicy soup, lamb, beef (no chicken but had pork), shrimp paste, puff tofu, assorted mushrooms, greens, donuts (so yummy as it was freshly cooked and crispy) and noodles for 3 people. Holy smoke! Happy Lamb has reignited my burning passion for hot pot to create a new dining experience for me and my family. On Father's Day, my dad was craving AYCE hot pot, so we trekked here after shopping, only to discover that this location was the one location offering à la carte only. Having had AYCE at Happy Lamb's predecessor, Little Sheep (albeit the W Broadway location), many times, we were admittedly quite disappointed because we did not know if our meal this time would be as worth it. Happy Lamb extinguished this disappointment altogether. Our server, Philip, was an absolute gem and took the time to sanitize our menu tablet, explain the ordering process, and recommend ~hot~ items (e.g. Yipin Fat Cow, Lamb Sunshine) and kitchen specialties (e.g. Housemade Donut). Plate after plate, we were floored not only by the exquisite taste, but also by the impeccable presentation. My favourites included the three aforementioned dishes, as well as Mutton Dumplings and Fish Roe Balls. They all tasted delicious in the House of Two Broths (Hot Soup and Clear Soup). Due to COVID precautions, Philip gave us plastic water bottles and brought out individual sauces/toppings (peanut sauce, soy sauce, chili oil, garlic, cilantro, green onion) for us to mix from. He checked in with us twice to see if we were satisfied with our food and needed more water. The rest of the staff at Happy Lamb were also very friendly and quick to bring us our food. I will say that clearing our dishes seemed slower, but I do think that could be COVID-related in reducing the amount of server-diner interactions. At the end of our meal, we were gifted a $20 coupon to use for our next visit. Food and service aside, the newly renovated interior of Happy Lamb is spectacular as well. The original soup base tasted slightly different and better than the ones from supermarkets and is worth trying and the spicy one felt the same as the ones from supermarkets. In terms of food, I tried the Sheep and Beef Combo (羊牛至尊), Natural Prime-aged Lamb (快乐羔羊), Shrimp Paste (虾滑), Black Beef Tripe (千层肚), Assorted Vegetables, and Fried Dough (油条). The Sheep and Beef Combo had a good assortment of beef and lamb - I believe there were 3-4 types of each so it's a decent item if you want to try a bit of everything. This place does not joke around (and neither does your wife) especially with a commitment to tasty soup declared on their wall and slogan. Be it a tomato soup or spicy white pepper soup, their soup really reign supreme over the other hotpot players in town. As a hotpot place they really take fresh ingredients to heart and plating of food makes you salivate and open your appetite! It is a great setting to be with family and friends. My family and I had such a great experience at Happy Lamb Hotpot. The customer service was fast, polite and very professional. Food items on the menu were very reasonable priced. Our dishes were also very nicely presented. When a food-runner delivered a wrong plate to our table, our server and the manager handled it very well and ended up treating us the plate! My wife and I don't usually post about my experiences at restaurants. However, this is the LAST time I ever visit this place. The wait staff was EXTREMELY RUDE. Especially when we were trying to pay the bill. We wanted to pay in cash and the waiter was getting impatient with us. When we tried to pay with 100$ for our bill and asked for change, the lady gave a snarky response back at us," Then give us the correct amount of money if you want change". Then she stood there with a demeaning tone asking us to confirm our bill and tip. At that point I should have left without a tip. This was not my first bad experience at this place: from the children coughing into the communal sauces and the other servers refusing to give us hot water after 20 minutes of waiting. This is not somewhere I recommend. Save your money and go to Haidiliao- the quality of the food and service is much better anyways. read more
