    Brisket hot pot
    Regina V.

This is one of the best value for the price for hot pot in Burnaby. The portion is just right for one person and it comes with bbt and dessert! The pots are individual sized and the meat selection is good. I love the veggies and the variety they offer. Good place to go for lunch or dinner! Not over priced like so many hot pot places now..

I'd been told to try Pearl Hot Pot from an old co-worker years ago. They specialize in individual hot pot. It's next door to Singapore Hawker. We dropped in on a Friday evening (8:00pm) and waited about 10 minutes for a booth. There's also plenty of seating at the u-shaped bar area. Service was solid although we had to ask for our soup base to refilled. 24 hot pot combos to choose from, which include the regular soup base, vegetable bowl, raw egg, choice of rice/udon/vermicelli, drink (three options) and dessert. - Spicy sauce - Special brewed black tea - get if you don't like sweet. - Fruit tea - refreshing, touch of sweetness. - Lamb pot (#8) ($19.95 combo) - lamb slices were good, although very thin. - Shrimp & meat pot (#17) ($23.95 combo) - went with pork. The 5 shrimp were fresh. - Fish & meat pot (#16) ($24.95 combo) - J added the spicy soup base ($4.00), opting for the chicken. Fish was okay (didn't absorb much of the soup flavour). Chicken was good. - Taro and pineapple ice cream - nice way to end our meals. Pineapple was decent, not much flavour in the taro. Good portions and value at PHP.

Was in the area so thought of dropping by and trying this much hyped place in IG. Its also Right beside a new singaporean restaurant so easy to find. Parking is plenty around the neighborhood. For around $20.. you can your choice of protein, individual hotpot, and a bowl of veggies and a shirmp and unique fish/meatballs, a drink, And ice cream dessert. The value cant be beat. You are sure to leave full and satisfied. However, if you are a heavy meat eater, the meat in the combo may not be enough as they only give a handful of thin sliced beef. You may need to add another $13 for an additional side dish of beef. Also comes with either rice or noodles and unlimited sauce refills. Overall, its a good meal and they dont change prices whether lunch or dinner. Service is quick and everything comes nicely presented and arranged. I would repeat if in the area. Cheers! Happy eating!

Pearl Hot Pot serves individual hot pots which is great for people who want to dine out with others, while sticking to individual dietary restrictions. There's meat, seafood and vegetables on their menu; all of these come in many different combinations. The combo meals include a drink & dessert, and offer exceptionally great value. We had a variety of meat, seafood, and vegetarian combos on our table. The food was delicious. Our young daughter who's a picky eater decided to try the Vegetarian pot like me. Getting her to eat her veggies is often a struggle at home; she ate up nearly everything in her meal at Pearl Hot Pot, and only needed help with a few mushrooms that were left in her pot. I thoroughly enjoyed my Vegetarian pot. My husband was amazed to see me not only eat up everything in my pot, but drink up every last drop of soup as well. The service could have been better, but if I were rating them on the food alone, I'd be giving them 4 stars. For flavor and value, look no further than Pearl Hot Pot Restaurant! Service: Could have been better Parking: Free parking on the street Location: Sperling Ave. @ Kingsway, in South Burnaby

Loved the experience. The combos are so comprehensive including a choice of cold drink, a carb like rice, noodles or vermicelli, a meat choice, and a basket of vegetables, fish balls, shrimp, and tofu. They include this amazing fish ball filled with mochi and cheese that is so good. We tried the blade eye and lamb combo and both meats were of great quality and delicious. We upgraded our soups to the preserved duck egg and cilantro soup as well as the satay soups for a couple more dollars which was worth it. Last, there is included ice cream with the combo at the end and you can choose between pineapple and taro soft serve. Both were splendid and delicious. For what you get, it's quite affordable hotpot. Plus, you get to have your own personal pot to cook in :)

Hotpot for chilly winter days Individual hotpot is the way to go these days! I got the Beef Hot pot combo for $22.95, it comes with a plate of fatty beef, a drink, bowl or rice or bean thread, soft serve dessert, and a bowl of assorted items for cooking: 1 prawn, 2 small pieces of tofu, Napa cabbage, 1 imitation crab stick, 1 slice of fish cake, 1 fried dumpling, 1 shrimp ball, handful of spinach, 1 PC taro, 2 thin slices of tomato, baby corn, shittake mushroom, enoki mushrooms), fresh raw egg There were a lot of veggies so this individual pot was quite filling. The pot is initially filled with clear broth, it is quite plain, but u can upgrade $2-4 for another soup base The dishes were brought out quite quickly and staff were there to help with the hot pot stove settings. If you are not a fan of the veggies and protein the combo comes with, you always add other things a la carte (ie meat, meatballs, other mushroom types, tofu, dumplings, veggies etc) Lots of side street parking

My final dessert - Green Tea Ice cream

This is my 2nd time going to Pearl Hot Pot. It is best to call ahead to reserve a table. We got there just a few min before reservation and timely, we were served at a table where u can see the server thoroughly clean the table with cleaning agent. The biggest table they have is 6 ppl & there are only 2. Our family of 5 ordered our own and was served promptly and quickly. There is so much food that my 3 teenagers were overwhelmed and not able to finish all. I always love that their potential is very healthy. 1:2 ratio of meat : veggies. The price is slightly more expensive than my 1st visit but overall, with my boys ordering the premium dish (kids...) we paid about $138 for all 5 of us. Pretty good going for a dine-out.

Surprisingly good (individual) hot pot (shabu shabu) in the Edmonds area. Don't let the dumpy outside fool you. Parking here seriously sucks. Try the side streets. The interior is mostly a giant bar counter (great for eating alone), as well as a handful of tables (good for groups of 4). The place is quite steamy. Staff were professional and quick. The hot pot combos start at around $19. The base combo includes chicken soup base, an entree (meat or vegetarian) of your choice, a bowl of hot pot stuff, dish of premade (as in they make it; it's not from a package) sauce, bowl of rice/noodles, cold tea drink, kid-sized egg, and green tea ice cream. I was quite impressed. I ordered the lamb hot pot (ie non vegetarian) and the hot pot stuff included taro, tofu, fish cake, sausage, enoki, cabbage, spinach, mushrooms, and even a prawn. The spicy dipping sauce (based on what I could see) consisted of satay sauce, garlic, green onions, and soy sauce, with a few red chili slices. Actually quite good. Special mention. Additional upgrades (different soup base, extra meat etc.) can be ordered for a few bucks more. Be careful though, as the costs can shoot up quickly. Portion size was decent and I did leave reasonably satisfied, though personally I would've preferred AYCE. Pricing here is a few bucks more than Boiling Point, but less than Gokudo. The hot plates are a bit tricky to use. My friends and I couldn't figure out how to simply maintain the temperature. Why does the temperature(?) dial have a green and red zone? The display had 2 lights (red for "heat" and green for "maintain warmth") but our pots were either just sitting there or boiling so furiously my glasses steamed up. Finally gave up and ate my entire meal by furiously boiling a morsel at a time. Really took away form the otherwise pleasant experience, but I guess I could've asked the staff for more clarification. When she switched on my burner she simply turned the dial fully clockwise (ie furious boiling mode). And what does that weird button do? It doesn't seem to be on/off. Okay, enough about the hot plate controls. The cold tea was quite tasty and really hit the spot. Overall the experience was quite pleasant and enjoyable other than the hotplate controls. Guess I'll read up online on how to use the damn thing.

I love the food here and I'm a huge bang for buck person, so having a drink AND ice cream included for the same price as a place like boiling point is a huge win. HOWEVER, I came at 5:40p and they told us it's a 1 hr wait because there are "reservations" at 6:30-7p even though there were empty spots. So we walked around and came back. We got seated at 7pm. Super understaffed and super busy in the evenings. Make sure to call ahead and make a reservation.

Great food for a decent price. The personalized hotpot is fun to eat and great to customize to your own liking. There is usually a wait to get in, but I've never had to wait more than 30 minutes to get a seat.

Basic hot pot to go order
    Melanie E.

This rating is based on take out. A couple of family members chose to order 3 basic combos for a family of 4 dinner. It was just right. See the photo for the basic box that included a great selection of food items. The price also includes the basic soup stock, dipping sauce, and iced green tea. I found the dipping sauce flavourful. The price is based per person and it's reasonably priced. This saves time chopping and saves money buying all the separate ingredients. The food was fresh. It a no brainer making it a fun and tasty meal. You can also order Pearl's side dishes or build your own based on your budget and dietary requirements. All you need is a table top burner with a pot to cook your own feast. It suits all types of diets from vegetarians to meat eaters.

Peking Duck course was fantastic. Food was more than enough for 4 people. Duck lettuce wrap was fantastic we couldn't finish all of it. Hot and Sour Soup was rather sour than spicy. It was not the best, but tasted alright though. My parents would've liked the soup to be a bit spicy. Sliced pork with garlic was good. Deluxe Fried Rice was fresh and tasty. The food is typical mid end banquet style, but the flavours are good, and the value is there. Lettuce wrap - standard restaurant fare. Decent quality. Fried green bean - nice and spicy, thanks to the house chili sauce. They can tune the spiciness on this one. Default is on the spicier side. Tasty. Shanghai fried noodles - standard restaurant fare. Hot & sour soup - better than the competition. Not sure what's special about it, but it stood out. Chongqing deluxe fried rice - one of their signature dishes. Great mix of flavour. Crispy rice with shrimp soup - honestly this would be the one dish that wasn't that great. Rice blocks were crispy, but the shrimp soup was nothing special. I'd skip this dish. Other than the crispy rice, everything is pretty standard compared to similar places out there. Expectations were met. Very good value. I'd gladly eat here again. Recommended.

They're a Northern Chinese spot that specializes in Guangxi cuisine and located right next to Onezo Tapioca. Even though it closes at 9:00pm, there were still people after us that came in for late night eats. We didn't have any issues with service; they came by to fill our tea several times. Just wish they gave bigger cups. Food comes out in a hurry. The menu is short and sweet: noodles, rice meals, appetizers, wontons and drinks. Trip #1 First visit was on a late Wednesday evening (around 8:30pm). - Mama's unique special milk tea ($4.80) - we added grass jelly ($0.50) which was unfortunately from a can. The milk tea was different than the norm as there was sweet fermented rice bits mixed in. Decent but don't think we'd get it again. - Sour and spicy crystal noodle ($6.98) - glass noodles with minced pork, bean sprouts, cilantro and peanuts. We got our dish medium spicy which was mild. Broth was excellently balanced; loved the sour notes. Glass noodles had a satisfying bite and cilantro added freshness to the bowl. - House special escargot rice noodles in spicy noodles ($13.98) - escargot, pig ear, beef, tofu, marinated egg, shrimp and pork intestine. There was also pickled green beans, bamboo shoots, tofu skins, wood ear mushrooms and peanuts. Really different with a good variety of textures and flavour. Loved all the types of meat, especially the tender beef, pork intestine and pig ear. Escargot was tasty but we wanted more. The tofu skin and wood ear mushrooms underneath were excellent. - Fresh meat wonton ($5.98) - this comes in a light broth with 15 homemade wontons, pickled seaweed and baby dried shrimp. Broth is basic but the wontons are great. Trip #2 Second trip was on a Friday evening (around 8:00pm). - Braised beef, pig ear and tofu ($10.98) - the beef is the same as what you get in their noodle bowls. Pig ear wasn't crunchy but the sauce (some sort of Chinese mushroom) was good. Tofu was fairly standard. For the price, it's a small dish; I didn't think it was worth it. - Shredded chicken, vegetable and cold noodle with house sauce ($9.53) - they asked us how spicy we wanted it; we went with spicy. Again, it's not so don't worry. The noodles were thin and the sauce was almost like a dan dan mein. We liked how it wasn't overwhelmingly peanuty. - Beef and escargot rice noodle in spicy soup ($9.98) - the beef is super tender. Again, the escargots are hard to find but everything else in this bowl is delicious. Tofu skin, wood ear mushrooms, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, peanuts and pickled green beans. Satisfying and spiciness finally came through. An interesting twist to the usual Northern Chinese spots typically found in town. Cash or debit only.
