    grilling beef rib fingers
    Tony J.

Korean restaurant on Kingsway, a little bit east of Metrotown. Dark wall interior. Has main area to the right of the entrance with most of the seating, and to the left are seating for Korean BBQ that's divided up by walls. We went for KBBQ and got basically a small room. We ordered the beef rib finger and marinated pork shoulder to grill, and also got the kimchi fried rice. Both of the meat were pretty good. They cut the slices of pork shoulder in a criss-cross pattern so it cooks through easier. The pork shoulder has nice seasoning. The rib finger were tender, and goes well with the dipping sauce. As for the fried rice, the portion is quite big, and has some bits of pork and comes with a salad. Good variety of banchan as well. Total was around $90, which is on the more affordable side for Korean BBQ. Definitely full after the meal.

We had Budae-Jjigae, a hot pot dish with spam, various types of sausages, kimchi, instant ramen noodles, rice cakes, cheese, and vegetables. While it was a great comfort food, I found the soup wasn't spicy enough for my taste. The portion was quite large, and for just two people, it was too much to finish. We also tried the seafood pancake, but it was a bit too thick for my liking, and the pancake batter itself wasn't well-seasoned. Without the dipping sauce, it tasted a bit bland.

Our first time at this place. My friend was craving korean bbq and we heard from someone that this place serves delicious food. It did not disappoint. The service was amazing. The staff were friendly. Ambiance was very chill. We will come back and try the other side of the restaurant.

I can't say how much I missed Korean food, Gaon cuisines are great, service is limited here only 2 people on the floor helping customers. The interior is modern finished and with day light from few windows.

    Pork backbone soup with banchans

Wish I had discovered this restaurant sooner! I used to visit Denny's across the street often but when I came this Saturday Denny's was packed. So I decided to try Gaon and was pleasantly surprised. Inside is spacious and neat. Service is fast. And above all the food is delicious and authentic Korean. I ordered Kimchi tofu soup for the first visit and then had pork backbone soup for the next two visits. Both were warm flavorful and soothing for the raining days of BC. And the price for the soup plus rice plus all those banchan side dishes, guess how much? Less than Denny's breakfast +coffee.

First visit to Ga On Korean Cuisine - pleasantly surprised! I've driven past countless times, but never stopped due to the plain exterior. After seeing great reviews online, I decided to give it a shot, and I'm glad I did. The interior is clean and cozy, with separate sections for BBQ and regular dining. We opted for the regular side and shared two dishes: Gamja-Tang (pork bone soup) and Haemul Pajeon (seafood pancake). The banchan stood out--7 different sides, which is rare at most places. A great start to the meal! The Gamja-Tang was exceptional, with fall-off-the-bone tender pork and perfectly cooked potatoes in a hearty, authentic broth. It outshone some well-known spots on North Road The seafood pancake was packed with oysters, squid, clams, and scallions. The top was crispy, though the underside was a bit soft--likely due to the metal plate not sizzling enough. Still, it was delicious. Service was excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive, checking on us several times and even offering refills on banchan, which is uncommon. Overall, a fantastic experience. Great food, excellent service, and a relaxed atmosphere. I'll definitely be back!

GAON Korean Cuisine is getting more popular in South Burnaby. They offer mouthwatering and affordable Korean dishes that will transport your taste buds straight to Seoul. This place took over Potter's so the restaurant is relatively big. There is one said for more bbq style and other is restaurant. It is clean inside and lots of room to move around. One thing is the washroom area in that it is open to the restaurant so some people can view in, when the door is opened. Maybe add something to block the view. They provide 7 side dishes, which is more than other places. Some other places don't even provide side dishes. We got their combo that comes with jjajangmyeon, jjampong and either cream shrimp or kanpung shrimp. We got the deep fried creamy shrimp. The cream shrimp was bigger than we thought and you get a decent amount of shrimp. This combo would be good for 3 people. It was just the two of us so we had leftovers. The service could be a little quicker and better as we were left alone for a bit. We ran out of tea and had to wave a server to refill. It wasn't busy in there, maybe 4 other family.

One of my new favourite Korean restaurants! My friend recommend this and it is excellent. Got a chance to speak with the owner and the chef that day too and it was both educational and hilarious. I always order the gamja tong at a new restaurant and they they were very thorough on on all their prep it shows in their broth, so clean and flavourful. All the pork neck bone is meaty and falls of the bone tender. Banchan was top tier too. My favourite was the cubed radish. Can't wait to come back.

We were craving some tasty grilled meats and decided to check out a newer Korean restaurant! We ordered the Combo B for 4 people ($150) and there was sooo much food. The servers were responsive once we called or rung the bell to get their attention. When you choose to have Kbbq, they give you a spacious room with the grills. If you choose regular Korean food, then you'll be in the other half of the restaurant with the tables. The combo included assorted beef & pork (marinated and non-marinated), corn cheese, steamed egg, deep fried mandu or dumplings, japchae or glass noodles, soybean soup, 4 bowls of rice, lettuce wraps and banchans or side dishes! The portions were giant and everything was pretty tasty! We also ordered a seafood pancake ($25) on the side since we actually had 6 people but we didn't really need it. There was more than enough food! We had a decent amount of leftovers. We did also try the Patbingsu or Red bean shaved ice ($14). But that was just ... not a recommendation I would give. It had large chunks of shaved ice that was super crunchy and some red bean, ice cream, and pineapples on top. I'd skip this. Other than the dessert, overall an amazing meal that is a great deal!

This was my second visit, and it was just as delightful as the first. Every dish on our table was flavorful and satisfying. The staff were attentive and served with such bright smiles that added to the experience. I was especially happy to have my favorite side dishes refilled without any hassle. The warm and cozy ambiance made the meal even more enjoyable. I'm looking forward to coming back again soon!

    Galbi tang (beef rib soup)

Center of a new Korean spot or off the middle a bit? I was going to do up a reservation to invite all my good friends for some tasty Korean food but backed out last minute after reading some not so stellar reviews. However after reading a recent review on how good their gamja tang is, I just have to give them a try myself. Yes I am a sucker for a good Gamja tang in a Korean restaurant. This restaurant took over Potter's Korean restaurant which has been around for quite a long time. It is conveniently located on Kingsway with a decent amount of parking at the back parking lot. Inside is simple with a clean renovation; One side with divided sections for bbq'ing and one side for diners who preferred dining without bbq'ing. I opted out of the bbq'ing section after scanning their bbq menu, somewhat a bit limited compared to most Korean BBQ places. After being seated and a cup of tea served, here were the food I ordered; 1. 7 complimented side dishes. Pretty good and fresh. But, let's not overly exaggerate like a couple of noobs said, it came with sooooo many side dishes that couldn't take a pic of them all with one shot. What are you? A midget with a midget camera? (Roll eyes) 2. Tako wasabi. The tako could improve on a better seasoned wasabi sauce plus a more appealing look too. 3. Corn cheese. The top layer of cheese was nice but once lifted that up, you can see the corn swimming in an ocean of mayo. Rule# 1 please drained the excessive water or moisture from the corn! Or maybe I am wrong, this is the Korean Chinese version of cream corn soup? 4. Steamed dumplings (made in house). I like dumplings whether it's Chinese, mangolian, Korean, etc... but these little deflated guys were quite flat, dry and wrinkly. They need to sign up for the senior home. 5. Deep fried creamy shrimps. They were okay, taste wise wasn't bad and the batter was a bit stretchy to prevent the sauce from making the shrimps soggy. The shrimps were also filleted in halves to maybe make it easier to eat or looked like a bigger portion (hehehe, it's a little trick by the Chinese Western restaurants back in the days). 6. Galbi tang (beef rib soup). The meat on the beef rib was a bit dry and tough. And the soup was quite light. 7. Gamja tang. I can see all the ingredients I like in the Gamja tang, the meat was very tender and fresh. The soup was really tasty and came steaming hot as it should be. I really love how fresh the meat was. I would say meat is better than Jang Mo Jib but the broth itself, Jang Mo Jib is better. Overall, this was the saving grace of the entire meal. Overall, the place is pretty clean and well ventilated with a comfortable casual atmosphere. The only thing that bugs me and I am sure others too; the inside of the men's washroom is literally in your face when someone opens it if you are sitting at those tables have a view of the washroom area. Perhaps add a door or something to the entrance of the washrooms? I am not interested in seeing what lil jim is doing inside the men's washroom while eating. The food can be improved according to what I have tried so far. I know sometime it takes time to adjust but keep in mind there are quite a bit of choices when it comes to Korean cuisine As for the service, I think it needs to step up its game a bit such as engaging with the customers more; asking how are the food, everything okay, NEED MORE TEA, saying thank you and please come again. Maybe during this cold winter, hot water and tea are scarce? Only got a cup of tea from the start till the end. And I did tipped 18% which I think it was okay. In conclusion, I would say 2 stars is fair given my experience here. When its a bit off centered?

The ambiance was quite lively and busy. Pretty well ventilated .. tables are spacious. I still need to try the dimsum here one day!!!
