I stumbled into Onggi looking for something comforting on a rainy evening, and left already planning my next visit. This place does Korean comfort food exactly the way it should be -- simple, honest, and deeply satisfying. We ordered the kimchi pancake and the soondubu jjigae, and both were spot-on. The pancake had that perfect balance: crispy on the edges, chewy in the center, packed with flavor but not greasy. The soondubu came out aggressively bubbling (in the best way possible), loaded with silky tofu, beef, and a broth that actually had depth -- spicy, savory, and warming all the way through. And then there's the banchan -- generous, well-made, and clearly fresh. At the end, they even brought out a complimentary probiotic drink, which was such a thoughtful touch. Little things like that show that they aren't just serving food -- they're taking care of you. Already thinking about what to order next time.

service was great! the waitress proactively refilled our side dishes before we even ran out! mackerel was pretty dry though..seemed like it was overcooked mackerel+soup+rice =$26.75

Delicious hidden gem spot in a small strip mall. The food had big portions and was very tasty. I'm pleasantly how surprised by how good the food was at this small restaurant. The spicy squid packed lots of heat and flavour. Army stew had lots of ingredients and was very filling. The kimchi pancake was a little soggy but the flavour was very tasty. I would come back!

Located right next to H-Mart in Coquitlam, inside the little mall/plaza. For the washroom, you have to grab a key and walk to the opposite side of the mall and use their shared washroom. **Korean Army Hot Pot ($39.75) - Super impressed with the amount of spam/sausage/tofu inside!a Solid two slices of processed cheese. In terms of toppings and price, probably the best I've had to date, so I'd recommend this one. Good for 2.5 or 3 people in my opinion. Premium Pork Galbi ($33.75) - regular galbi, decent portion and flavour. Cold Noodle ($15) - pretty basic, comes with an egg.

I came here with a friend H for lunch. I was surprised that Onggi is a makeshift restaurant in a mall. I got the mackerel lunch set. It came with two pieces of mackerel, soup and rice. The fish was someone overcook. It had a nice char to it but it was dry. I really liked their sides. The seaweed side was my favorite out of the three (kimchi and bean sprout). The lunch came to about$22 exclude tax and tips. There are free parking at the mall. The place is very small and has very limited seating.

Located inside a tiny mall in Korean Centre. Quite busy during the lunch hour, and saw most people order the squid and pork belly. Portion is for 2-3 people, so price wise it is excellent. Not the best tasting korean food in my opinion. Rice balls were bland and a little too stiff. The stir fry was heavy on the marinade.

This place is honestly a gem. I love how comforting each dish always is. Their menu is so nice and I love the variety. * Spicy cold noodles ($17.50) ~ bomb this was so good and refreshing. It had the perfect amount of kick and the sauce was soo good. Noodles were nice and chewy too! 9.5/10. * Korean army hotpot ($45.75) ~ this was so comforting pairs so well with the spicy cold noodles. It wasn't too spicy but had loads of that rich kimchi flavour. The ramen noodles paired so well with the ingredients. Spam, and sliced pork belly truly hits different when in an army hotpot base. I love how it was loaded with different toppings: tofu, sausages, cheese, veggies, kimchi, rice cake, noodles, pork, beansprouts and spam. So good and I'd get it again! Perfect for 2 people to share! 9/10. * Overall I'd come back it's comfort food and it's simple who doesn't love that!

Onggi has quickly become one of our rotating Korean restaurants. The restaurant is clean, service good and food delicious! Whenever a K-restaurant is filled with Korean people, this is always a good sign to me that the food is legit. Since we discovered its existence, we've gone there perhaps 3 times within a month. We've tried a variety of dishes and while some I had better ones elsewhere, it's safe for me to conclude that the food they serve is overall very delicious. My favorite dish is definitely the stir-fried spicy squid and pork belly dish. You can customize your spicy level. The spicy squid and pork belly portion was extremely flavorful and on point. The squid not too hard/chewy and pork belly didn't make me feel nauseous. The rice balls made the dish look very appetizing and they did not disappoint. The portion was decent for the price and we were able to pack some back for dinner. This dish was definitely what got me hooked personally. The galbi-tang was good but I've had a better version nearby. At approximately the same price, its competitor's version had one extra beef bone the richer broth. We ordered the chicken soup and chicken noodle soup (this one seemed to be a very popular amongst the Korean people that came in). They were a refreshing and comforting dish. They both had the same broth as well. The traditional royalty box I didn't really like, albeit it being a popular item. It came with 6 side dishes, and many of the dishes were side dishes that I would sometimes get with my meals at Korean restaurants. To me, it was like paying for banchan's that I'd normally get free of charge. The BBQ meat was good though. I can't wait to go back again for the spicy pork belly dish! Due to Covid not going away, my potential plan to go to Korean kept on getting postponed. However, I'm eternally grateful that North Road has so many authentic Korean restaurants to fill the void. =)

Highly recommend. It's a really nice small store within the Korean mall. This was referred by a friend and I was surprised that their soup and food are better than a lot of restaurants. Beef short rib soup (5/5) - approved both my wife and I. The soup was amazing. The Herb and the ingredient that they used it brings out a lot of umami and the flavor of the soup was just next level. Delicious ~ Seafood pancake (5/5) - it's definitely one of the best seafood pancake I have tasted in the lower mainland. The seafood and flour ratio was so perfect that it made me felt it worth every penny. A lot of restaurants put too much flour to cut down cost, and at the end, make customer feel like they are eating fried bread. Kimchi jigae (3/5) - rating made by my wife. She finds that she can find better ones with cheaper price elsewhere. Overall it is a nice place for a quick bite. The service was good. I would come back again!

I called to make reservation a day in advance, so I made sure my family and I got a table for dinner without waiting. I saw people who did not make reservations had to wait at the door. We got a table at 6pm and ordered our food. The food did not arrive until 6:45pm! The wait time for the food was quite long! I believe the kitchen is small and/or they don't have enough chefs or staff to work in the kitchen. A couple of servers ran around and took care of all orders and customers. They were quite busy. A server gave us water and poured it in to a small stainless steel cup for each of us, but the portion was very small and we finished drinking quickly. We didn't have a kettle or jar of water or tea that we could serve ourselves. We had to wait for a server to pour water for us. They should improve their efficiency by giving each table a jar of water or tea, so customers could help themselves to get some water. Agreed?? The food was good. We ordered a spicy squid combo, mackerel combo and bimibap with beef. The portion of each dish was quite big. We had to pack some leftovers home. The presentation of each dish looked great. The only thing I would say was the side dishes. There were a very small dish of bean sprouts, a small dish of kimchi and a small dish of soy sauce potatoes. We had a table of four people. All these side dishes were the same size of the ones that a table of two people got. If we had four people, should we get a bit more? I total understand that we could ask for refill but the restaurant should have thought of the portion of how much of the side dishes they should give to a table of two, four, six or more people. I would love to come back and try their lunch special indeed. They have a really fancy photo online to show this special lunch that comes with many different things. I look forward to trying it.

New Korean restaurant opened in the food court located inside the mall that besides Hannam supermarket. This stall was perviously a Korean food stall and now replaced with a newly renovated restaurant. We have ordered a few dishes: * Grilled premium Galbi ($38): I was quite looking forward to this dish but it turned out quite disappointed. This is the most expensive BBQ items on the menu but came out a small portion. Not only that, the meat itself didn't taste as good as it sounded. Meat was quite chewy and bland. There were bean sprouts underneath but no much flavor. All the seasoning were really depends on the providing sauce. * Gamjatang ($15.75): pork back bone soup was pretty standard. There were about 4 big chunks of meat bones in the pot with stewd cabbage. It's good soup with the rice. * Onggi spicy eice cake ($17.75): there were variety of items in this topokki such as chicken nuggets, hot dog, rice cakes and ramen. The rice cakes were actually quite hard to chewy and we didn't like it too much. The sauce was on the sweeter side. Overall, it's a 3.5 star for me. Not too recommended for the BBQ meat dishes according to our experience. Other items were all moderate .

This place just open for two months. However, they are quite busy even on weekdays. I heard they have lunch special box, however I decided not to try them due to personal reason. Anyway here are the reviews for the food that I ordered. 1. STIR-FRIED SQUID AND PORK BELLY This food comes with five rice balls and also soup on the side. The rice balls itself was seasoned with sesame and other things (I don't know what they are). Overall this one is good and worth the money! They cooked the pork belly as how I usually cook mine at home which is little bit crispy. Squid was cooked perfectly. Portions for this is quite big for me. 2. DOLSOT BIBIMBAP Another big portions , lots of filling and beef. However too much sesame oil for this one, but other than that everything is perfect! 3. SEAFOOD SOON DU-BU JJIGAE This is the least favourite from what I ordered. When I taste them at the first time, I was thinking maybe I should order the beef one. It just too much squid inside, maybe I already "full" from the spicy squid. It just need more seasoning in my opinion, I just added the kimchi side dish on mine and it taste better. In addition to that, I feel the pot itself is not hot enough. and I prefer if they serve the egg on the side, instead of crack and put it in inside the soup. You never know if someone has allergy and forget to mention that (just in case). Overall side dishes are good, love their kimchi a lot. I think they are little bit short staff, I only saw 2ppl working. One little thing is they don't really walk around to check if you need more water/tea

My other two friends got their glass noodles and Korean pancakes. The glass noodles were delicious!! Very flavourful. The pancakes I thought were a little too oily. I would definitely come back! They also have hot soy milk for drinks. Their deep fried chinese donut has got to be the best I've ever had in my life. With the price of a pair of fried donut being over $6 these days, I get my fix here. Other things are standard, good but not outstanding. I really like having soy milk to drink instead of water. $18.88 is getting a little steep for a limited choice buffet with not too many meat choices.
